Obsession
Catherine Lawrence was visiting with her best friend from college Lisa Abbott when they were attacked and held hostage in her home. While trying to get away, Lisa was shot, and died at the scene, but Catherine escaped with only injuries. When Catherine awoke in the hospital, she was confused, afraid, and disoriented. She didn't understand what had happened, but did at least recognize a friendly face, Daniel Howard. He was her next-door neighbor, and the physician that had treated her. They weren't close but she didn't feel threatened by him either. She had been fighting the instinct to flee, but when it became overwhelming, she snuck out of the hospital. Almost home free, Dan found her in the parking lot, and offered her a ride.

When she was finally home, Catherine's unease increased. She felt very disconnected from everything. Her friend's death didn't seem to have the impact it should, and she didn't have any real reaction to the mention of her boyfriend's name. She felt herself go numb when she looked in the bathroom mirror and barely recognized herself. Instead of the expected curvy woman with long auburn tresses, she stared at a rail thin blonde. Catherine feared for her sanity, but held on to the hope that her memory problems resulted from a blow to head she had received the day before. Again after emerging from the bathroom, she was again fighting for her life when unknown assailants attacked her. After Dan helped her escape, she was sure of only one thing. She could trust no one, and would have to rely on herself to find out what was going on. In the days to come, Catherine is horrified to find out that nothing is what it seems, or what she knew to be true.

This was a pretty good book, but I was lost at times going from the past to the present and back all the time. The story was choppy and the cohesiveness lost. Catherine and Dan are both strong characters, but I was impressed with Catherine the most. This woman goes thru hell in a span of just a couple of days, and while she questions her sanity at times, she doesn't lose it. She knows that there are answers, and forges ahead to find them.
