The Calif of Bagdad and his trusty vizier are turned into storks by an evil sorcerer, but with the help of a beautiful princess they reverse the enchantment. "An excellent example of Middle Eastern folklore, this makes good use of its Islamic setting in both story and art. . . . 5-0 out of 5 stars One eye, two eyes, & three eyes
One of my very favorite fairy tales, One Eye, Two Eyes & Three Eyes has been adapted for younger children who might find the death of the goat in the original version, upsetting.Wonderful illustrations combined with the creative twist to the story makes very enjoyable reading. This tale can also be acted out by kids who love being dramatic.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Fairy Tale
I'm an adult, and actually just read this tale recently for the first time, and wondered how in the heck I had missed out of this one when I was a kid. I had never heard of it. Well, I just read it to my young daughter, and we both loved it. It has most of the elements of a well written fairy tale: magic, tragic drama and love.

The story is about three sisters named: One Eye, Two Eyes and Three Eyes. One Eye only has one eye, Two Eyes has two like everybody else and Three Eyes has three. Because Two Eyes looks just like everybody else, she is discriminated against by her sisters who look different, and even by her mom. Two Eyes is taught a magic spell which helps make things better for her until her curious family discovered what was going on and put a stop to her using the spell. Two Eyes is then told by a helpful old lady how to grow a magical tree. This tree's fruit can only be plucked by Two Eyes, so her sisters' and mother's mean diligence doesn't pay off. In the end, Two Eyes is rescued from the evil clutches of her family by a knight, and the two of them live happily ever after in a castle. One day, Two Eyes' sisters come asking for help and Two Eyes' does nothing out of spite from the past, and she takes care of her sisters - a nice ending, with a good message.

Darien Summers, author of The Mischievous Hare, a children's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great edition of my favorite fairy tale
Little One Eye, Two Eyes, and Three Eyes was always one of my favorite fairy tales when I was growing up, so seeing it in its own picture book was just heaven to me.

And this version lives up to the one I grew up with, too.

Little Two-Eyes is despised by her sisters for being "different" (in the version I grew up with, it was for being normal, which makes more sense, but being "different" makes for a funnier punch line in the end) by having two eyes instead of one or three like they do. (Weirdly, they're shown watching TV with odd-eyed people.)

So they treat her like the classic red-headed stepchild - leftovers and rags - until she cries and cries. You can work out the gist of the end now, I'm sure :)

Very funny, and neat illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sick of Cinderella?
Just when you've read your kid Cinderella for the million zillionth time, along comes Aaron Shepard to the rescue with this retelling of a less well known but very fun fairy tale. Poor little Two-Eyes is the weird kid in her family since she has an even number of eyes; her older sisters One-Eyes and Three-Eyes are, of course, perfectly lovely by cultural standards in the neighborhood. Two-Eyes must dress in rags, do all the dirty work, and eat only leftovers--until the goat she tends turns out to be magic and starts giving her food to eat. When Two-Eyes seems well fed for a change, her suspicious sisters decide to spy on her. All I can say is that if you're going to put your sisters to sleep with a magic charm, be sure to count their eyes VERY carefully first! Artist Gary Clement has a lot of fun with this tale, throwing in anachronisms such as a microwave and a box of tissues. Did I mention the fairy godmother, the magic apple tree, and the handsome knight/prince? Let your two-eyed child take a look at this story! ... Read more

Product Description
The greatest cultural accomplishments in history have never been the result of the brainstorms of marketing men, corporate focus groups, or any homogenized methods; they have always happened organically. More often than not, these manifestations have been the result of a few like-minded people coming together to create something new and original for no other purpose than a common love of doing it. In the 1990s, a loose-knit group of American artists and creators, many just out of their teens, began their careers in just such a way. Influenced by the popular underground youth subcultures of the day, such as skateboarding, graffiti, street fashion, and independent music, artists like Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales, Spike Jonze, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Phil Frost, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, and Ed Templeton began to create art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Many had no formal training and almost no conception of the inner workings of the art world. They learned their crafts through practice, trial and error, and good old-fashioned innovation. Not since the Beat Generation have we seen a group of creative individuals with such a unified aesthetic sense and varied cultural facets. The world of art has been greatly affected by their accomplishments as have the worlds of fashion, music, literature, film, and, ironically, athletics. Beautiful Losers is a retrospective celebration of this spirit, with hundreds of artworks by over two dozen artists, from precursors like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Larry Clark, to more recent adherents Ryan McGinniss, KAWS, and Geoff McFetridge. Work in all conceivable mediums is included, plus reproductions of reams of ephemera. The accompanying essays are contributed by a half-dozen writers who have championed these beautiful losers from the start. This paperback reprint includes more pages, more images, an exhibition checklist, installation shots from a variety of exhibitions, and an interview with Beautiful Losers advocate, Agnes B.Edited by Aaron Rose and Christian Strike.Interview with Agnes B.Paperback, 8.5 x 11 in./288 pgs / 220 color and 200 b&w. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars its good to be a loser
ok- this book is pretty brilliant... despite the fact that the artwork included is a catalogue of some of the most important, interesting and (previously- time will tell??) underground /fringe dwelling artists and contemporary contributors in the last 25 or so years and that in itself is reason enough to love this book, you would be CRAZY not to read the essays... they are insane- so brilliant and you are not even touching the surface of this book unless you read them..
if you have any interest in graf/ skating/ contempory artists / beautiful things / whats going downthen youll love beautiful losers and regret very badly that you didnt get to see the exhibition...like i am now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful loosers Beautiful Book
If you like street and pop art... I kindly raccomend this book to you!

Peace and 420!

1-0 out of 5 stars THE BOOK NEVER CAME.
I ordered this book from Amazon as a graduation gift and it says that it will ship in 1-4 weeks. BEWARE! I placed my order in mid-May and received a third delay notice today saying that it will not ship until mid-August. BOLLOCKS!! I finally canceled my order, as my "happy graduation" note is no longer applicable and my guy will likely be in school for the fall semester by the time the book actually arrives.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Historicly important exhibition catalog with great essays.
Beautiful Losers exhibition is a document of an epoch centered on the twenty year history of street art and culture from the walls of urban landscapes across America to thewalls of the dopest west and east coast galleries. Really great essays. Read the one by McCormick, its especially good. Well printed and designed. Everything in this book is imperative to know about if you are an artist, especially young artists in their formative years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great pictures, great read
Its definately worth $25.17, or whatever price theyve stuck on it by now. Its includes pictures of, and interesting stories about a few of the Beautiful Losers aswell as full pages of artwork (in color). Its no picture book either, in addition to the stories, its got the histories of various subcultures that influenced the artists (skateboarding, graffiti, etc.) So it'll keep you busy for a minute. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I was delighted

This was a fun story to read, with nice Illistrations to my grand daughter! She is Korean and on my side Norwegian! I wanted to read her tale from both cultures to honor her heritage! The book came on time and in good condition!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality figures and a good story with a moral
This Norwegian folk tale is about a giant troll who keeps a lovely maid as a prisoner. Leif, a headstrong young boy, goes to work for the troll against his father's wishes. His first day on the job, he is told not to go in the house, and he is threatened with death if he does. Of course, once the troll has left, he enters the house and talks to the maid. She tells him the magical way to solve his task of the day, for otherwise it is impossible.
At first he does not believe her and soon discovers that she was right. For several days, after the troll gives him his daily job and then leaves, Leif goes and visits the maid, who tells him the magical way to do the task. But, being Leif, he has to try to do it his way and fail before doing it as the maid suggested. On the last day, Leif is to be chopped up into pieces for a stew, but he and the maid saddle horses and run away. The troll follows, but the maid uses some spells to stop him and they eventually escape and are married. When the minister asks the maid if she will love, honor and obey Leif, he emphatically states that he should obey her.
Folk tales generally have a purpose and for this one, it is, "pay attention to those who know things." Leif is unwilling to take the advice of people who know better and it creates problems for him. Finally, at the end, he has learned his lesson and vows to obey the maid. The illustrations are excellent, so the combination of quality figures and a good story with a happy ending combine to make this an excellent book for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book if your considering using CreateSpace
I was debating whether or not to use CreateSpace to publish a book and found this book.VERY helpful if you want to read all you can about how it all works, what the books look like, the quality and how to upload and get the most bang for your buck using CreateSpace. It was very helpful to me and I did end up using CreateSpace and am very happy with the results. This book shared information I otherwise would not have known that was very helpful and instrumental through the publishing process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book!
I teach and coach for a living and computers are not my always my best friend. Given that using CreateSpace requires being able to use the computer - no human to help you through the process - this book was very helpful. The author has used CreateSpace many times and guides you through the process with clear directions.

I bought the book just for the directions and was surprised to find a great deal of information about self-publishing and different sources for information about self-publishing, marketing books, etc, as well as other information that authors who are going to self-publish will find helpful. This part of the book saved me a lot of time researching answers to other questions I had about self-publishing.

4-0 out of 5 stars If I were going to publish through CreateSpace, this would be my guide
This book is a nice, easy to read, quick step by step guide to walk you through the CreateSpace process. Mr Sivils took a no-nonsense writing approach with a light attitude very similar to the writing approach in author Aaron Sheppard's books such as "Aiming at Amazon". Being a stickler for detail, I wished the interior design was a bit prettier, and more concise, but that's totally beside the point because most people buying this book will want it for the information.

I've recently read other books and tips on using CreateSpace and I would choose this book over any other I've read so far. If you are going to publish through CreateSpace, get a guide like this one to help you through the process.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Helpful Guide To Using CreateSpace!
This book is written in clear, concise language.I was able to follow the steps in using CreateSpace's procedures with ease. The book is more than just a step-by-step guide for using CreateSpace. It has information that any author interested in self-publishing will find helpful. The author has sections of the book that are resource guides that will steer the reader in the right direction to find information about self-publishing.It also includes an overview of the new, I think they are new, services offered by CreateSpace. The best feature of this book is that it is a time saver. ...
