Product Description
... Read more

Chacun ...http://booksllc.net/?l=fr ... Read more

Excerpt: Maria Gabriela Stefania Korwin-Piotrowska (18571921), known as Gabriela Zapolska, was a Polish novelist, playwright, naturalist writer, feuilletonist, theatre critic and stage actress. Zapolska wrote some 41 plays, 23 novels, 177 short stories, 252 journalistic works, one film script and over 1,500 letters. She gained popularity with her socio-satirical naturalist comedies, which Moralno pani Dulskiej (The Morality of Mrs. Dulska), a 'petty-bourgeois tragic-farce', is considered her most-known work and regarded as a landmark of early modernist Polish drama. Her other dramas were translated into other languages, played at the Polish and European stages, and adapted into radio and film. Zapolska also acted in over 200 plays on stage in Warsaw, Kraków, Pozna, Lwów, Saint Petersburg and Paris. Zapolska was born on March 30, 1857 in Podhajce in Volhynia, (now Volyn Oblast, Ukraine) to a gentry family during the Third Partition of Poland. Her father was a marshal of Volhynian szlachta. She studied at the Sacré Coeur Institute and in the Institute of Education and Science in Lwów. In 1876 she was forced by her family to marry a lieutenant in the tsar's guards, Konstanty nieko-Bocki, but soon left him an...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=874104 ... Read more

Product Description
Pseudo-naïve and funny, Jockum Nordström's works compress a bundle of simultaneous narratives in a single frozen frame. He says, "A single picture of mine may often be based on a multiple of originals. I am constantly looking at my immediate surroundings as well as books." Art, photographs, people, plants, architecture, patterns, textiles, sex, and history all play an important role in his compositions. His enigmatic scenes, rendered in drawings and mixed-media pieces in watercolor, gouache, and collage, seem at once old-fashioned and modern. Lucas Cranach and James Ensor are longstanding influences, as are folk art and Surrealism. His art seems to portray suppressed fantasies fighting their way into the consciousnesses of the flattened-out figures. Fantasy has the power to transform banal, alienating tasks into moments that shimmer with humor and poignancy.Essays by Annika Gunnarsson and Brian Sholis.Poems by Wislawa Szymborska, Johannes Bobrowski, and César Vallejo.Clothbound, 9.5 x 13.5 in./96 pgs / 100 color. ...
