Prior to her academic career, she worked as a clinician in acute medical and rehabilitation settings, managed both occupational therapy and multi-disciplinary programs, and provided consultation and continuing education related occupational therapy management and program development. She is the founding Chair of the Brenau Occupational Therapy Department. She currently continues to chair the department, teaches coursework in occupational therapy foundations, as well as supervision and management. She supervises student thesis research directed towards understanding how to improve client-centered care. Dr. Schell continues her own research examining the nature and development of clinical reasoning.

Extractions: The Art School The final major attempt at establishing an adult educational institution, before the advent of the Free Library classes, originated in 1851. It was in that year that the Great Exhibition took place. It was the Exhibition, which "came as a revelation, and produced a profound sensation in Wolverhampton" [J. Jones op cit p73], that inspired some of the leading citizens of the town to endow a small art school in the town's Castle Street. Under the secretaryship of Charles Mander [a leading Conservative and member of the famous varnish and paint manufacturing family], a full-time art master named Thomas Chittenden was appointed by the end of 1851. C. B.Mander The history of the Art School followed the same pattern established by the Mechanics' Institute, for initial interest was such that in August 1854 a purpose-built School of Art "in the Greek style" [ibid p75] had been opened in Waterloo Road, on the western side of Wolverhampton. This building was partly financed by public subscription, but some £1,600 of the total cost of £4,000 had to be raised through a mortgage [ibid p147]. At the opening ceremony of the Art School was George Wallis, a native and former resident of Wolverhampton. Wallis had gained prominence in contemporary art circles in his role as "Keeper of Art Treasures" at the South Kensington Museum in London, and had gained a wider national fame as Deputy Commissioner of the Great Exhibition. Much interest in the establishment of an Art School in Wolverhampton was in deference to Wallis and his reputation.

During the turmoil of WW I, a 9-year old Arthur fled with his family and neighbors from their ancestral village of Rahvah, on the shore of Lake Urmia, on the edge of Kurdistan in Azerbaijan Province of Iran. His book Armenag's Story chronicles his family's escape from Persia and resettlement in the United States. In the midst of the Great Depression, Arthur withdrew all his money from a local bank$700and came to Wellesley, partly to follow his high school sweetheart then enrolled in Wellesley College and partly to open his first store. The following day the bank failed, but his marriage to Phebe Ballou endured. A gifted storyteller, Arthur rented a tiny space in Wellesley and sold rugs by visiting potential customers in their homes and offices. He once told a college president that his office should be graced with a rug from his store because "no one can behave badly in a room with an Oriental rug." On another occasion, an antique rug from his collection was stolen. He told an AP correspondent that the rug was cursed. After the story broke, the rug was found the next day on the steps of a local church.
