I want to begin by saying that I'm not a medical professional and everything I write here is from my own personal experience and understanding of what I've read and heard...basically I write from the perspective of a layperson and as one who lives with anxiety disorders. My name is Alice Neville. In 1966 I founded THE OPEN DOOR the first self-help organisation in the world for people suffering from agoraphobia, a problem that had affected my own life from childhood to my mid-twenties when I overcame it altogether. Very soon we had 4,000 members, and the late Dr. Claire Weekes, Author of Self Help For Your Nerves came over from Australia to help and advise us, treating numbers of our members, lecturing all over Britain, appearing on TV, radio and writing articles for our newsletters.
