The program integrates theoretical teaching in the classroom with hands-on instruction in the laboratory or field. Students are given much individualized attention through small class sizes. Students completing the program receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture with emphasis in general agriculture. The general agriculture program possesses unique locational and competitive advantages over similar programs. The College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management is surrounded by several agribusinesses which offer invaluable teaching resources. In addition, students make extensive use of a 110-acre University farm for laboratory and field work. The weather in Hawaii makes it possible to be agriculturally active all year round. The general agriculture curriculum offers students flexibility in course selection. There are enough elective hours to allow students to plan a course of study that will meet their career goals. Hence, the curriculum is ideally suited for both freshman and transfer students. Graduates from the general agriculture program are employed by private companies and governmental agencies in a wide range of agriculturally related fields.     Extractions: Four web-based organic courses are now being offered at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Staff of the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada and the Centre for Continuing and Distance Education have developed the organic agriculture courses for interactive participation. Two courses (Transition to Organic Agriculture and Composting) are offered in the fall semester (Sept to Dec)and two courses (Organic Field Crop Management and Organic Livestock Production) are offered in the winter semester (January to April). The web based courses are available for students on a credit basis at the second year degree level. You can do the readings and assignments at the time of day most suitable for you. You are also welcome to take the courses on a not-for credit-basis. The information and access to the instructor are the same, however assignments and exams are not required. Farmers in particular are encouraged to register. We welcome your input and questions.
