If you have questions or comments for Barbara Taddeo, visit the Education World message board Friday, September 22, was the halfway point in the Olympics. Everyone involved is amazed that the Games continue to progress smoothly. The Australian people are wonderful! I sometimes stop at the store on my way from the horse park where I'm working to my friend's home. I'm still wearing my uniform so people often stop me and say thank you for being a volunteer. In many ways, the Australians remind me of Midwesterners because of their friendliness. As I have said before, the Olympics bring out the best in people. I found this to be true in Atlanta, but even more so here. On Friday, David O'Connor won the individual gold medal in the three-day event in an exciting finish. (See

Extractions: Help Pass the Olympic Sports Revitalization Act The gymnastics community is a closely knit web of coaches, judges, gymnasts and parents that always pull together when really needed. That's what needs to happen now, but we're also going to need some help. What we need to do to really get this bill some attention is to get support from all the sports that will be covered in the bill. By passing the the OSR Act the following sports would receive immediate finanical and legal benefits: wrestling, tennis, gymnastics, rifle/shooting, fencing, outdoor track, swimming, skiing, ice hockey, water polo, judo, field hockey, team handball, synchronized swimming, equestrian, badminton and archery. We all need to do our part to involve anyone we know that is involved with these sports. The more help we get the faster the government will be forced to act. I have already emailed my representatives and all of the senators that are in a position to help with the bill, but I have started a petition as well. Sign the online petition here Collegegymfans.com

Extractions: So many books have been written about the meditation side of Zen and the everyday, chop wood/carry water side of Zen. But few books have approached Zen the way that most Japanese actually dothrough ritualized arts of discipline and beautyand perhaps that is why Eugen Herrigel's Zen in the Art of Archery is still popular so long after it first publication in 1953. Herrigel, a philosophy professor, spent six years studying archery and flower-arranging in Japan, practicing every day, and struggling with foreign notions such as "eyes that hear and ears that see." In a short, pithy narrative, he brings the heart of Zen to perfect clarityintuition, imitation, practice, practice, practice, then, boom, wondrous spontaneity fusing self and art, mind, body, and spirit. Herrigel writes with an attention to subtle profundity and relates it with a simple artistry that itself carries the signature of Zen. Brian Bruya - Amazon.com
