The images include barns, bridges, cabins, chicken coops, churches, corncribs, garages, granaries, houses, outhouses, post offices, root cellars, schools, sheds, silos, stores, wells, and windmills. The Harry S. Truman Reservoir Architectural Survey Records were donated to the State Historical of Missouri by an unknown donor on 24 March 1980 (SHS Accession No. 2299). An addition to the records was made on 1 May 1980 by Curtis Synhorst (SHS Accession No. 2311). The Harry S. Truman Cultural Resources Survey Project was undertaken to record the architecture in areas that were affected by the Harry S. Truman Reservoir. The area included Benton, Henry, Hickory , and St. Clair counties in southwest Missouri. Curtis Synhorst participated in the project which was headquartered in the Division of American Archaeology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The Architectural Survey Records are organized into four sections. The maps and site survey sheets are arranged alphabetically by county name. The architectural check sheets, building plans, and contact prints are arranged alphabetically by town name. The architectural data cards and photographs are also arranged alphabetically by town name. Another section of photographs, the bulk of the collection, is arranged alphabetically by county name and then by type of building thereunder.

Mr. Barns earned his Masters in Architecture from the University of Hawaii, with detailed studies in Architecture of Asia, the Pacific and the United States. He received the East West Centre Scholarship from the U.S. government and undertook international research and studies at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He earned his B.Arch. from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Mr. Barns is a Senior Fellow at the Institute. His work focuses on sacred landscapes and cultural risk. These studies include the investigation of cultural perceptions of the landscape and the idea of particular tribal groups having differing ways of perceiving and responding to the environment. Often, traditional perceptions have become ritualized in ceremony and prayer, and at a political level in resource management systems and tribal government environmental education, management and harvest programs. Of particular interest are the relationships of indigenous peoples with national or federal governments, utility companies, oil, coal, gas and uranium developers and the positions of indigenous peoples in such relationships. The Sacred Landscapes Program seeks to locate native peoples at a level of influence and control over their traditional resources and over landscapes that affect their social, cultural and economic well-being.

    Extractions: Cremona's Main House (circa 1819) The central section of Cremona's Main House was completed by 1819 and provides an excellent example of early Federal architecture. Of special interest is the unique staircase: "rising on the left of the spacious central hall, the first flight ascends half way to the second floor to a landing which spans the width of the hall like a bridge. Here on the right the stairs divide into twin flights to reach the front and rear landing of the second floor. The third floor is reached in a similar manner with a second bridge spanning the center of the hall above the first." According to James Wilfong, it is believed that the purpose of the large landings on this staircase is to create a work area for musicians at social functions. At either end of the spacious central brick construction are two story brick wings. The present kitchen wing, located on the left while facing the river, was constructed in 1930 by General and Mrs. Howard Davidson. The original kitchen wing to the right contains a large fireplace, original rafters, and two-foot wide exposed floor boards. Paneling in the library of the main building was salvaged from an eighteenth century Baltimore house, according to Don Swann in his Colonial and Historic Homes of Maryland.
