Extractions: Elementary Art Lesson Plans Painting Made Easy Caveman Dinosaurs This project works well with 2nd Grade Symmetrical Quilt Designs This project works well with 3rd Grade Each student will need one 9" square white paper, a black crayon, and scissors for this project. Take the square paper and fold it corner to corner "the taco fold", and then fold it again. Open the paper up, and you should see a large X. Now fold the paper edge to edge "the hotdog fold", and then again like a book. This fold, when opened will make a +. There should now be 8 sections. In ONE section, with the black crayon, press HARD and draw a SIMPLE line pattern. Fold the paper one time. Using the scissor handles, rub over the section you just drew. Open the paper up and retrace the lines that now appear in two sections. Refold the paper again (in a new direction) and rerub with the scissors. Continue this until all sections are filled. You will see a completely symmetrical design. I use crayons to color this in, but tempra would work well also. The brighter the color, the more attractive these are! Surreal Lockers I use this project with the Upper Grades I will be adding several more lesson ideas in the near future, so check back!
