From the supplier: Section 105 of the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 states that this act preempts all state law on air carrier services. In passing this act, Congress must have intended to retain tort liability for aircraft carriers, since to do otherwise would have been terribly unjust and other portions of the law require air carriers to carry liability insurance in case accidents occur. If Congress truly intended to preempt all state law remedies, legislators must have thought federal remedies existed. Possible remedies in federal common law and implied statutory remedies are discussed.

Product Description
Jake Fox, an aviation accident attorney, graduated from Law School during a break from his Air Force tour of duty. He served as a pilot in the Viet Nam war avoiding injury or death flying the high risk missions out of Thailand into North Viet Nam. Upon release from the Air Force, he begins his legal career handling uninspiring minor injury cases until a more substantial case provides him with the funds necessary to move his practice to Palm Beach. After three years handling small property cases in Palm Beach, he is retained by a wealthy Palm Beach gold merchant, Trey Fielding, with respect to a minor Federal Air Regulation violation. Jake fortunately wins the case and the two men strike up a friendship. When Trey Fielding loses his life while flying his single engine airplane, his very attractive wife Michelle, retains Jake as her attorney to represent Trey's family for the loss of a husband and father. The Fielding case against the aircraft and engine manufacturer becomes a highly publicized, high value target for the many parties eager to get a slice of the pie. Jake battles not only the able defense attorneys on the case but also the various interests that are trying to assume control of the case. While preparing the case for trial, Jake must also deal with growing allegations that Michelle, the wife of the Decedent, was a knowing participant in creating the conditions that led to her husband's death. The novel winds its way through the many challenges of the trial to the final outcome of the case and the realization on Jake's part that doing the right thing is not always an easy choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Palm Beach Gold Takes the Gold
I just finished reading Palm Beach Gold and found it to be a satisfying, interesting novel.I decided to read it because I'm very interested in aviation stories, and I'm also interested in legal issues and love court room drama. The author's treatment of both aviation and legal matters in the novel was excellent. The descriptions of Palm Beach and the technical coverage of the aircraft accident were convincingly accurate. Obviously the author knows his stuff when it comes to aviation, legal trials, and the social scene in Palm Beach.Anyone interest in a good novel or in any one of the these subject areas will be amply rewarded. And everyone can identify with Jake Fox!I give this novel an excellent rating for the quality of the writing, the plot which is truly suspenseful, and the fact that it's a very enjoyable read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I decided to read Palm Beach Gold as I am familiar with Palm Beach and thought I would check out the novel.I had read only a few pages of this novel and I was hooked. The detailed presentation of the aircraft accident was riveting. After that, I had to keep reading.Everything in the novel appeared to me to be very realistically portrayed.Characters were all well crafted and the plot kept me hooked right to the end. The yacht broker character was especially intriguing. The writer's dialogue is excellent.Flows very naturally. This is an excellent novel, I would give it a 5.I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars For Palm Beach Gold
Excellent novel! My sister had recommended R. Thomas Roe's first book, "The Gaelic Letters". Upon noticing that he had written a second novel, I bought both books and read "Palm Beach Gold" first. I was very impressed with "Palm Beach Gold".I found the story line to be very interesting and the plot to be very well written. Mr. Roe's handling of dialogue was outstanding and his characters were very credible. It didn't take long for me to connect with each of the characters as they seemed to step right out of the pages of the novel. We all know someone like Jake Fox and that is just one more reason I really connected with this novel. Five star novel by R. Thomas Roe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing novel with a moral dilemma-- will have you asking yourself, What would I do?
How sweet life would be if all ethical issues were cut and dried--just hit the "Easy Button" on decision making. Choose the guy in the white hat over the guy in the black hat. Choose the straight-and-narrow path to follow and not the crooked path. However, those of us over the age of 35 know things just aren't that Sesame Street simple. Life is messy.

Attorney Jake Fox has a set of rules--a set of principles that he follows as he conducts his law practice. Some may say that is rare in the world of personal injury and product liability lawyers. However, for Jake, it is a function of how he was first attracted to the law profession by listening to an esteemed small town lawyer who said to the youngster, "Always do what is right and always tell the truth."

After working in a large law firm, Jake realizes he has lost something of himself, so, he strikes out on his own in Palm Beach. He meets a young couple with their growing gold coin business and, when the husband suddenly dies in an airplane accident, Jake lands the biggest case of his life. Since Jake is now out on his own, he has to mortgage everything in order to finance the case and bet that it is a winner. The problem - what about those principles of his and would they survive intact as well? His client, the grieving widow, is a knockout, but there is more inside her ambitious mind than meets the eye.

R. Thomas Roe's new novel perfectly captures the moral dilemmas that confront most of us at key points in our lives. We work to survive and survive to work, but what is the meaning of it all if we can't hold true to our inner self and core set of values?

Aviation enthusiasts and legal buffs will also very much appreciate the technical accuracy and the level of detail that the author keeps as he relates his intriguing tale. The dialogue is delicious and witty--overall this is a perfect summer read. ... Read more
