5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, Effective
I've purchased several books on accupressure and this is the best, especially for beginners.

It's easy to understand, well organized. The pictures make it very clear where the potent point are. Most of all, the accupressure techniques work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pain Relief
This is an excellent book. The best and simplest pain relief - but you do have to do the exercises. He interjects some spiritual, metaphysical approaches that make it more personal for me.I have copied some pages of the book to give to people. Those who apply his pressure points are amazed that they work so well.I bought the book and gave it to my dauther because of her back pain. She applied his pressure points and exercises and was amazed to be relieved of her pain.It is illustrated, easy to read & highly effective.BUT YOU DO HAVE TO DO THE WORK YOURSELF.

5-0 out of 5 stars For energy work, this book is wonderful
I have enjoyed this book and it has helped me with some pain issues. I would order from this seller again. The book arrived on time and in great condition. I have no complaints.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is extremely helpful, encouragingand easy to use
I love this book. It is very 'hands on' with easy to understand directions and illustrations. (I have another book by a different author I have yet to use because it is so complicated). This one, Acupressure Potent Points, covers a wide range of health issues: shoulder tension, chronic fatigue, arthritis, depression, anxiety etc. It also covers the immune system and wellness in general. Before each health issue there is advise about probable causes, food and lifestyle to support recovery and experiences of people who used the acupressure and succeeded.I find it very inspiring and encouraging. I have used this book for years. Love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very detailed
This book has the pictures, many different procedures depending upon what ails you, lists the clinical terminology for the location of the pressure points, and more.NOT for the faint of heart - requires deep concentration if you're a novice - Might be perfect for someone thathad any kind of medical experience. ... Book Description
Increased stress and traumatic events in our lives have resulted in many millions of people who suffer from insomnia, nightmares, anxiety attacks, depression, and tension headaches.ACUPRESSURE FOR EMOTIONAL HEALING offers relief at your fingertips, quickly and safely, for a wide range of emotional problems. It explains how emotional distress becomes lodged in the body as muscular tension and blocked energy, and shows how acupressure can relieve not just the resulting physical symptoms, but also their emotional source--often without the need for extensive talk therapy or medication.

Acupressure stimulates the same points used in acupuncture, but instead of needles, firm finger pressure is used on the surface of the skin. The pressure releases neurochemicals called endorphins that relieve pain.As in acupuncture, specific pressure points are connected with internal organs and energy pathways in the body (called meridians) that regulate the flow of electrical energy to all systems.Unlike acupuncture, acupressure can be used safely by anyone, with only the hands as equipment.

ACUPRESSURE FOR EMOTIONAL HEALING offers a comprehensive A-Z guide to emotional ailments (from abandonment to worry and obsessive thinking), with fully-illustrated instruction on dozens of precise acupressure point locations and how to activate them, combined with yogic breathing, stretching, and movement routines.Case histories from the authors' practice further illuminate each condition and the path to emotional balance and healing. Most routines can be used independently for self-care and on-the-spot relief. There are also sections on how to use the techniques to helpothers, with appropriate safeguards. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PURCHASE
Product was in great condition and very informative. I am looking to buy more books by this author. Great buy and good price foramount of education it brings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
This book was a required purchase for a recent home practitioners course in equine Acupressure and Photonic Acupoint Therapy. I find that I am using and refering to charts from this book several times a week. It is a fantastic resource that is easy to read, easy to understands and is very helpful. After major bodywork on a horse recently I showed the book to our equine physiotherapist while we were working out the horse's treatment plan until his next visit to the horse and he thoroughly approved of my proposed treatment plan according to the charts in the book. Not just an endorsement of the quality of the information from myself and the lecturers, but also from our own equine physiotherapist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I bought this book for my girlfriend and she said that if she didn't have it she never would have passed some of her college equine acupressure classes last quarter. If she didn't have this book she said that there was no way that she would have ever gotten certified

4-0 out of 5 stars Great assistance to energy work
A good reference book for those in an equine therapy role.

4-0 out of 5 stars good introduction
This is an interesting and well written book on equine acupressure, and also the only on the market! Very clear and simple explanation on TCM (traditional chinese medicine) and principles behind it all.
On the other hand, the drawings are too vague to actually locate the points on your horse. They tell you to "feel it" but it isn't enough! They give you "recipes" of points for different conditions which can be fun to try but may be disapointing if you expect results. In TCM, there in not a pill or recipe for each disease like in western thinking.
Overall, an excellent introduction to the subject, but makes you hungry for more! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand guide to acupressure.
This book is easier to understand than many others I have referred too.It shows good illustrations for self-treatment for different conditions. It is a good little guide for the non-professional.I have quite a few acupressure books. This one is the most user-friendly for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Acupressure Techniques: A Self Help Guide
This book is almost useless for helping someone understand how to use acupressure to alleviate physical symptoms. As a licensed massage therapist who already knows quite a bit about acupressure, I am always willing to learnmore about any kind of bodywork. I had hoped to be able to pass on some ideas to my clients for self help but this book was definitely not it. The book gives some accupoints for specific problems, some of these are "golden points" able to stand alone in use, but others are not. The book gives no order to use these in and furthermore does not specify if all or any of the points are to be used together in sequence, or not. Also,it does't tell where the points are EXACTLY. There are really too many flaws to go into here. Acupressure is very complex, this book tries to simplify it to the point that it looks like some goofy folklore advocating some bad mojo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice little book!
This is a very handy little book to have for your medical library. It is easy to follow, has a nice index to look up your particular problem and doesn't bog the reader down with a huge history and medical jargon of accupressure.
It has easy to use pictures too.
I have used it already to help my annoying neck and shoulder pain!Sure beats a $50.00 office visit (and most likely, a 3rd or 4th) to your doctor :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow
Guide is easy to follow and helpfull for everyday ailments. Lots of pictures!

4-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better
The strengths of this book are in the concise explanation of the techniques of acupressure and the clear illustration of the location of the acupoints. The layout is nicely done, too; each condition is on a double page spread with a brief explanation on the left-hand page and illustrations on the right-hand page. However, a little more thought on the indexing would have improved the book a lot.For example, PMS or things related cannot be found in the index, but are included under "dysmenorrhoea". Otherwise this is a great little book. ... Read more

Book Description
Combines acupressure and massage to treat pain using elastic tape

• Shows how the use of an elastic, adhesive tape works with the body’s own motions to combine the actions of acupressure and massage

• Presents both therapeutic and preventative techniques for acute and chronic pain

• Contains step-by-step instructions illustrated in full color detailing how to self-treat pain in all parts of the body

Sufferers of chronic pain well know the frustration of treatments involving endless rounds of drugs or expensive physical therapy--that may or may not offer relief. In Acupressure Taping, authors Hecker and Liebchen present a comprehensive guide to a new method of pain treatment--acutaping--which offers a much simpler and more effective alternative. In acutaping, elastic tape is placed over the afflicted area in accordance with related acupuncture points. During the course of normal movement throughout the day, the elastic tape provides a gentle but consistent massage to the inflamed area. Because the skin adheres to the tape, it is shifted against the subtissue during motion, causing lymph tissue to drain and connective tissue to be massaged.

The authors show that most bodily dysfunctions can be self-treated through this innovative method. Combining elements of Chinese medicine with osteopathy, acutaping produces a method of treatment for ailments ranging from back pain and tennis elbow to menstrual pain and migraines. Acutaping is an easy and effective treatment--without side effects--that offers welcome relief to sufferers of chronic pain. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Acupressure Taping
Most people have heard of the benefits of acupressure and acupuncture. These traditional Chinese medicine practices are becoming more and more commonly used as complimentary aspects of pain management and the healing of injuries. Based upon these techniques is acutaping.

Acutaping involves the use of bandages placed on particular areas of the body to treat pain and the healing of injuries. This is similar to another technique, Kinesio-taping, used extensively in sports medicine. The primary difference is that in kinesio-taping these tapes are attached to muscles, ligaments, or joints for treatment of pain relief whereas in acutaping the bandages are placed on the actual problem area, associated loci, or along particular median pathways to support the client in his or her unique needs.

Acupressure Taping is a particularly good introduction to acutaping. The authors summarize the basic concepts of Chinese Medicine for those who might not be knowledgeable about these aspect; make clear the similarities and differences between kinesio-taping and acutaping; and discuss the types of issues where acutaping could be useful. However, the most useful parts of this book are the well set up reference portions of the text. These sections include full color photographs showing where the bandages should be placed for various ailments. The accompanying information includes the number of tapes that should be used and where they should be placed as well as hints about how each set of muscles should be flexed to issue best fit and hints in attaching the tapes in specific areas.

I found this book fascinating. In my Reiki sessions, I often make use of median points and pathways to aid in healing and pain management. Unfortunately, many ailments require longer term work than a 30 minute or hour long energy session. Acutaping could be a very useful element to aid the healing and pain management process.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise and Well-Organized
I'm a small animal massage therapist but have not taken a course in Traditional Chinese Medicine yet. This book is very helpful for giving a good background for what seem to be complicated concepts and multiple ideas. Acu-Cat is written in simple terms with a well-organized format. For someone who did not have any training in bodywork, this might be a bit too much but still a good intro to TCM. I'm reading Acu-Cat along with Four Paws, Five Directions and find the former an excellent resource for the more detailed topics.
Acu-Cat is a "must read" for every vet, vet tech, & massage therapist who did not have TCM in their basic curriculum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped others as well as myself.
I first purchased this book in the fall of 2002, and proceeded to travel across the country in 2003 to accompany my sister to receive NAET treatments for both of us. Using the techniques, we have been able to help other people to understand the healing benefits of both the NAET treatments for allergies and the Living Pain Free treatments to save from many trips to a doctor or the hospital. Many have requested their own copies of this book, which I was able to acquire for them.
One example is of my niece-in law who was suffering alot of pain from what a doctor said was either a torn ligament in her knee, or perhaps a blood clot. She came to me, I showed her how to use the book, and after the treatment, she walked across the room without pain. She continued to treat herself at home and is doing much better, with no sign of a blood clot. Another friend suffered from MS and Fibromyalgia and migraines, requested her own copy of the book, and is also helping her mentally challenged daughter with multiple problems. Another friend was not able to cry, used the guidlines in the book, and now is able to cry over a sad movie etc!
I highly reccomend the book for those who are really sincere in self-help.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well illustrated and lots of symptoms covered
I recently purchased both this book and "Say Good-Bye to Your Allergies" by the same author. This is the much better book - actual information on treating particular symptoms, rather than an extended apology for her NAET system of allergy treatment. The only thing that I really found more distracting than helpful was the use of medical terms when navigating to particular pressure points.I've read several books on accupressure, and this is the only one that requires a decent knowledge of 'Gray's Anatomy' to understand much of what she is saying. The illustrations go a ways to helping that, but I couldn't escape the feeling that the author was trying to make sure that readers knew she REALLY is a medically trained doctor.

Again, aside from that caveat, a good book with lots of maladies addressed.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Self-help book!
This is an excellent self-help book. Page "58" is very helpful to overcome immediate allergic reaction temporarily. On the very first visit, Dr. Mala taught me how to use these points. Every morning when I wake up I massage these points before I get out of bed. That gives me tremendous energy all day along.During my initial NAET treatments, I was advised to massage these points every two hours. That helped me pass my treatments without any unpleasant reactions. I love this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Accupressure Manual
This book has been a godsend. With some experience in accupressure my wife and I have been able to use this book to address all sorts of ills. She once brought down a 104 F fever to normal in 2 hours using the pressure points in this book.

The only downside is that QA on the book is sorely lacking.Points on diagrams are missing in the narratives, the index does not include many common ailments that that are actually covered and can be found by browsing through the pressure point descriptions. There are many other editing mistakes. If this is cleaned up in the second edition, as a working manual this will be second to none.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good...
This book is so easy to follow.Anyone can follow his directions as far as the acupressure techniques.I have no knowledge of physiology or the acupressure.Overall, it is a great book.I really recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Text
I use this book regularly, along with Ms. Teeguarden's others, Complete Guide to Acupressure, and The Joy of Feeling.

This book is an excellent starter; it has clear descriptions of excatly *where* the points are, unlink Michael Reed Gach's books (one of Ms. Teeguarden's former students). The book also starts you off with Strange Flow work, the most powerful acupressure tool.

Since acupressure and traditional chinese medicine isn't about fixing symptoms (Gach's approach), but rather treating the entire system, this is the best ground work I've found.

4-0 out of 5 stars a class text
This is actually a class text designed to be used in conjunction with a certified Jin Shin Do practitioner and teacher. With that in mind, yes, it will seem ethereal, or worse, when not taken in conjunction with the class(es). As opposed to working primarily from the ZangFu, Jin Shin Do utilizes the 8 curious Mai; and is another way to help body-workers in dealings of body armoring.

This book is quite esoteric and very theory-based.I was looking more for a book that would assist me in learning to use accupressure rather than understand it's development and philosophy. For anyone interested in a book that is more aimed at treatment, try Acupressure Potent Points: A Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments by Michael Gach, an excellent resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good practical book
I found this simply written book very usefull. The book begins with conception and introduction of theoretical basis of chinese medicine and accupressure, it continues with tables of locations and way of working onthe main acu-points (including self-treatment). At the and of the bookauthor gives us a practical approach to the emotions from the acu-points. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Manual
I use this in my clinic as a massage therapist to assist people by incorporating use of acupressure points in my work. Its an excellent manual to look things up, and give me points to incorporate for most people as I work.

Its also an excellent self help book when I need to strengthen myself from time to time.

As with all body work books you have to be able and willing to touch a few people to find your way to the points. Working on yourself and a couple of family members from time to time will give you the self confidence to navigate the anatomy and find the points. The person who had trouble with this probably never did take the time to feel their way around the bones and muscles on anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for Beginners
The book is full of photos and diagrams - A lot of professional time has been put into this book.I bought the book in hope that it would help me with my pain issues and to lose weight.I opened the book - looked at the wonderful pictures, read the 'instructions', and felt instantly overwhelmed.I'm a mechanical kind of person and have no medical or holistic background. Most of the techniques require a second person because of position, the locations of the pressure points, and potential multiple simultaneous points. It might be a great book - The problem might be the operator.

5-0 out of 5 stars a real aid to maintaining health
If you believe in the tenets of Chinese medicine, and you want to take care of yourself (or children, spouse, friends, etc.), this book gives excellent guidelines for using acupressure.I've used it for myself and keep it by my bed, in case I wake up in the middle of the night with indigestion!

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Concepts of Acupressure
This book covers the basic concepts of acupressure and assumes no prior knowledge of this subject.
The concepts covered are: causes of disease, the channels and pressure points, major acupressure points, preparing to treat, herbs and oils, channel-opening techniques, treating common ailments, general vitality, nervous system, immune system, respiration, digestion, elimination, circulation, reproductive system, bones and joints, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Practical
This book benefits from a very practical layout and content, which is precisely what you want if you have a common ailment and are seeking the solution from a book. Clearly written with the minimum of techno-jargon and maximum relevant content per page. I wholeheartedly recommend it. ... Read more

Book Description
A Complete Guide to Acupressure fills the need for something in between simplistic acupressure books and complicated acupuncture texts. Now even more complete, this new edition has been updated to include:
o JSD as a tool for aiding recovery from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - a state of hyperarousal following a traumatic experience like an accident, attack, or disaster;
o Anxiety and insomnia as indications of disturbed Shen, or Spirit, with point combinations integrating traditional acupuncture theory with segmental theory;
o The Five Elemental Processes as a practical guide to a harmonious relationship with Nature, both around us and within us;
o JSD acupressure as an adjunct to first aid for athletic injuries in outdoor situations like hiking and wilderness travel.
o A clothes-on technique, Jin Shin Do is the author's unique synthesis of a Japanese acupressure technique, traditional Chinese acupuncture theory, Taoist philosophy, Qigong (breathing exercises), and Western psychological tools. A Complete Guide to Acupressure describes this synthesis in detail,
with chapters by Iona and senior Jin Shin Do teachers in the U.S., Canada and Europe. "Jin Shin Do" means "The Way of the Compassionate Spirit," and this book is a treasure house of ways to treat ourselves compassionately.
o Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, M.A., L.M.F.T. has taught Jin Shin Do Acupressure throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe for three decades. The author of the classic Acupressure Way of Health and The Joy of Feeling: Bodymind Acupressure, she is a Diplomate of Asian Bodywork Therapy (NCCAOM), and has been

3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe it is just a confusing topic
In summary, I certainly have a better understanding then I did before reading the book, but not nearly as much as I had hoped for. I was expecting to be able to treat myself, but I wanted to be able to have a much more informed discussion with my TCM treatment team and to explain better to my western doctor (who was very supportive of giving TCM a try). This book gave me some appreciation for what my TCM folks were doing, but not the knowledge to communicate I was hoping for.

I started acupuncture and picked this book up in an attempt to build up a better understanding. It did help me get a little better sense of the "theory", but much of the book seemed to talk around the subject.

For example, at the beginning of the book there is a lot of space spent discussing the difference between western science and the eastern view. Most of the verbiage was really focused on complaining about western science . I was a little concerned that many of the criticisms were very simplistic views of the western approach. Basically, the way western was explained was set up to make it look really bad. That was not helpful to me since I know what I like and dislike about western medicine.

Similarly, most of the discussion of TCM kept stressing how every case is different so there is not one answer. Thus, it really comes down to a skilled practitioner. Plus, it cannot be tested since it is so different person by person. But you should trust it as it has been around a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The mystery of the history revealed.
Matthew did an excellent job in this book turning the complicated subjects of yin/yang and five-phase theory into clearly understood topics as they are applied to Chinese medicine. His theory is the best I have seen to uncover the mystical roots of acupuncture....it's very plausable that it happened just the way he describes.

This is a wonderful book for anyone with an interest in the history of acupuncture and acupressure, the Daoist philosophy surrounding Chinese medicine in general, and for detailed information and explanations on basic self-healing acupressure practices

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Overview of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine
The author begins with a clear and unbiased explanation of the underlying differences between Western and Eastern Medicine.Within this context, he explains how and why acupuncture works using non-technical terms that any layman can understand.

The book includes clear examples of types of illness that are best treated within the Western biomedical model and those that are more effectively treated using Chinese Medicine (rather than opinion, his information rests on the NIH Consensus study of Acupuncture Effectiveness)

Part Three of the book gives many helpful Self Care instructions and explains the points that one can safely use acupressure on oneself and others to treat a variety of conditions.

An excellent resource for anybody interested in Acupuncture or the Oriental Healing Arts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine 101
This easy to understand, unbiased explanation of acupuncture, acupressure, and Chinese medical philosophy helps fill one of the missing links in our understanding of health and disease. It not only offers the reader a fascinating view of Chinese medicine, but provides self-help acupressure techniques from a practitioner who obviously knows his stuff. I enjoyed reading it and think every one interested in this field of medicine and self care can greatly benefit from reading it as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Power
This book is a really good book. It tells you more then just medicine, it also speaks about its orgen of the art of eastern medicine. It explanes the hard to explane, and gives you information to carry with you even after you close the book. Exelent book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The BodyMind Connection
Human understanding of the connection between emotion and physical health remains elusive in Western Medicine. This provocative Eastern view gives us hope that reintegration of our selves after traumatic moments and the transformation of "negative" feelings is literally at our finger tips.
This book is one of the deepest explorations into the energy of healing and remains a much worn friend in my healing library.
A must have book for healing touch practitioners from all traditions.A must read for all of us who hope to heal ourselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar
This book is an excellent compendium of information that relates bodymind experience to acupressure theory, five-element theory, and traditional chinese medicine.Fantastic companion to Iona Marsaa Teeguarden's Complete Guide to Acupressure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Access the BodyMind dynamics of emotions
This book expains how emotions -in the Western sense - reflect energetic balance/imbalance -in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Element Theory and meridians. Innovative graphics illustrate the complex dynamics. Numerous clinical examples are provided, couched in the beautiful and mystical poetry of Chinese Medicine and Philosophy, against a background of clinical western psychology. An absolutely essential volume for anyone, not weaned on these metaphors, but interested in holistic treatment, at any level. Beatifully written, deserves to be read and re-read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good framework, and a good value.
I am an acupuncturist who was looking to do some chair massage, which was not an area covered during my schooling. I have acquired a lot of massage books, but this one stands out. It gives a suggested routine that is simple and logically arranged. It was easy to use the suggested routine as a springboard for a more customized session. The only caveat is that you need to be familiar with basic massage techniques to understand what is going on. So in that respect it really isn't a book for a lay person, it is more for a beginning professional. ... Read more
