5-0 out of 5 stars Really great book!
My mum has this book. I think it is great. She's taught me acupressure and I use it a lot. The diagrams and instructions are easy to follow so I can use it by myslef. I cured my blocked nose with it and I use the wrist point for travel sickness. I like all the bits for staying healthy too.

1-0 out of 5 stars acupressure step by step
The book disappointed me because there is no picture of meridians though the author refers to them constantly. Besides, I prefer to operate with chinese names of the points which I did not find in the book. And finally, the structure is really confusing to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book - it worked for me! Highly recommended,
This book gives really clear explanations and its helped me cure all sorts of common ailments both for myslf and my friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars This method is easy, it works! Put it back in print someone!
Sometime last year I found Dr. Bahr's book in a friend's used book store.I'm an acutherapist who has worked mainly for children with neurological damage; it worked for them. Since I'm focused on that application of acutherapy, it was wonderful to find a book with a plan to solve one of my problems.

Over the past year or so, I have lost 30 pounds after starting just with the acupressure, and not the diet. Now I'm using also the 300 calorie diet plan, but not every day, and beginning to lose more weight (I have lots to lose!).I know I need to eat more vegetables, and the 300 calorie diet plan has helped me to start in that direction, as well.

A friendemailed me asking for information about the plan, so I looked up the book in Amazon and found it is out of print. How unfortunate for those who need to lose weight in a sane and safe manner, that does not take an enornous effort of the will.

By stimulating the acupressure points indicated in Dr. Bahr's plan, one!not only facilitates the losing of excess pounds, one benefits one's whole well-being.

Somebody put it back in print, please!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Self-healing Book - A Must Have!
This is a very comprehensive book on acupressure. The diagrams and descriptions are easy to understand and follow, which makes it a very practical book for self-healing. This book is a life-saver for me as it has certainly helped me healed a lot of my chronic ailments over the years. It has also thought me a lot about the significance of acupressure points in the body, how it works, the healing benefits, etc. This book is easy to use as a reference on a daily basis any time you need it, and especially when you experience pain, you can treat yourself and relieve the pain on the spot. The Healing Benefits of Acupressure is definitely a worth while investment and a must have for those who use self-healing methods/alternative treatments like myself...it is like acupuncture without the needles and added cost. Too bad it is out of print and I sure hope more of such books will be available in the near future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Do-It-Yourself Natural health
The book is written so anyone can understand and use the information on a daily basis. It provides valuable information on prevention, healing yourself, and has helpful ideas. The pictures are clear and the directions are very easy to follow step by step. You can learn the important pressure points quickly.
I have used the tehniques to travel 22 hours on a plane and did not get air sick, swollen limbs, or suffer from jet lag just from using a few pressure points and following the helpful hints.
The herbal and aroma therapy is also very helpful for relaxation and improving health. I highly recommend this book to anyone! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good start, could be improved
This book contains very good information and is useful. It could be improved by adding an index, giving page numbers for specific techniques mentioned in the table of contents, and giving written descriptions of how to find the points. It is not possible to precisely pinpoint the acupuncture/pressure spot with just the dot on a dog diagram. There are some typos that should have been caught by the publisher. Over-all a useful book. I hope they come out with an updated edition that particularly contains an index.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
My copy arrived earlier than expected, and in excellent condition. Kudos to [...].
I have found the book to be easy to read, and the diagrams are very clear, and easy to understand.
I have alreadytried some accupressure on my little schnanuzer, and noticed some improvementin her pain level.I hope to improve on this, as I get more proficient with practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than I expected
I am thrilled with the book the service was great and the amount of information in this book is overwhelming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up for a much needed canine acupressure book!
Well researched, superbly written and easily understood by the beginner, this is the primer for all dog lovers who are striving to improve their animal's health.
Traditional Chinese medicine is a difficult conceptfor most Westerners, and the authors explain the basic principles in a manner that allows we "newbies" to start affecting change in their dog's health immediately after reading their book.
I highly recommend this book to those who are searching for a more holistic approach to their animal's health care.

5-0 out of 5 stars very enlightening and helpful
I found this guide to acupressure for pet dogs to be clear and easy to use.It is the only book of its type that I could find, targeted for beginners.I especially liked the lists of specific conditions or problems, and how to treat them. One of my dogs was treated for a hot spot using this book. The relief he got was immediate and evident to everyone in the room.Another dog has benefited from acupressure treatment for joint disease. Both my dogs and I have enjoyed a closer, more satisfying relationship using regular acupressure techniques described in this book.People with an open mind, willing to try something different for their pets, will love it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Is this wise?
While I admire many other books in the series (particularly the volume on satanic love-making techniques) I was a little concerned by the wisdom of this volume. Should we really be encouraging 'complete idiots' to try their hand at sticking needles into the nervous systems of others in the name of medicine? Still, it's not quite as worrrying as the announcement of the forthcoming 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Performing Gender-Realignment Surgery'.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
I am looking to understand accupuncture and accupressure without having to suffer through reading text-book style presentations on the subject.Hence my choice of an "Idiot's Guide" book -- I thought it would give me, in layman's terms, a greater understanding of the concepts on which accupuncture and accupressure are based -- kind of a mini-course on the subject.Instead, it focused on what practitioners of these medical arts can do for the patient and what to expect when visiting a practitioner.

While the book does provide descriptions of points that can be stimulated on one's body to alleviate selected conditions as well as visuals in the form of pictures, these are quite limited and not easy to follow.

Also, as I read the book, I was annoyed by the poor editing of the text.Frequent grammatical problems undermine the book's credibility.

Hence my disappointment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction
If you know nothing about Acupuncture or Acupressure and are considering treatment this book is a great introduction.Although it talks about Acupressure more than Acupuncture the pressure points are the same for both methods. It talks about the most common issues people seek treatment for, explains what to expect on your first visit, and the basic science behind this ancient form of treatment. I highly recommend it for people who are considering this treatment and have no experience with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars not as excepted
this book talks more about acupressure and how to use it butdoes not go into that much depth for accupunture.

This book is very informative whether you are just considering acupuncture or have tried it and want to know more about it. ... Read more

An auto accident left Cathryn Bauer with such a badly damagedleg that her orthopedist believed her limp and chronic pain werepermanent. Determined to heal herself, she created a self-care programthat utilized acupressure, visualization, and Tai Chi. Acupressure notonly relieved her pain but also facilitated a complete healing.

This small, clearly written reference book discusses why acupressure iseffective. ("It began with the observation that when you are hurt, your hand instinctively moves to cover the injury.") It tells--succinctly--how to work with acupressurepoints, what precautions totake, and the Western and Asian views of the discipline. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good resource for seekers of alternative health systems
This book is the latest by the author who has authored several other books on the subject over the last six years. It combines in one handy volume, three alternative treatment options for 60 common ailments and conditions. Acupressure, Aromatherapy and Herbal Therapy are covered. The acupressure points are clearly explained by using line drawings of the human body and indicating the points. Precautions where applicable are also given.

The author explains that acupressure is meant for immediate relief and is to be followed by aromatherapy and herbal therapy.

Depression is one of the sixty ailments covered but in my opinion, depression is a major health disorder and is to be treated by a competent health professional, not necessarily by a mainstream psychiatrist. The author of course advises that all the treatments should be undertaken only under the supervision of a physician.

The author rightly stresses the importance of correct breathing.

This book will be very useful to those who can't take allopathic medicines because of the side effects or cost. A pocket reference book dealing with 50 of the 60 ailments is available from the same author and will be a very invaluable aid.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource
A fantastic resource...well-organized, easy-to-use and understand, Do-It-Yourself Natural Health is exactly what the title promises:a great, handy and practical guide to a host of common conditions.
This book is a must-read for anyone interested in natural health, feeling better, gaining vitality or taking a natural approach to an existing condition. This is a book you will consult again and again. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very practical
The accupuncture/accupressure system of self-healing is millenia-old, and I was looking for a book that would serve as a quick how-to rather than a lengthy thesis.I compared this book to the Michael Reed Gach book which seems very popular, and I have to say that this book works much better. It is brief, and yet leaves very little out.The format is well-suited for someone who just wants to get started, rather than be reading a textbook for the next few hours before getting started.
