Book Description
Timeless Face is a revolutionary approach to facial toning, one that enhances your face's appearance while it contributes to your inner tranquility and well-being.Incorporating the time-honored techniques of Chinese face reading to identify what causes facial features to develop as we age, Ellae Elinwood demonstrates that it is simply not a fact of life that a forehead has to wrinkle, a mouth has to sag, and they eyes have to become baggy. Rather these are generally symptoms of emotional distress and lack of facial fitness, which can be treated and corrected through a simple program that combines acupressure and exercise. For example:Vertical lines between the eyebrows indicate confusion and concern. The Desquinter exercise not only smooths lines and slows down the appearance of new ones, it also generates mental clarity and optimism.Drooping mouth corners and pouchy cheeks are signs of stress and loss of confidence. The Light-hearted exercise will life those mouth corners as it lifts your mood, easing worries and increasing a feeling of self-worth.Deep furrows between the nose and cheeks can signal suppressed emotions and the strain of too much responsibility. The Erasing Cares exercise lessens those deep lines while it enhances your ability to communicate and negotiate on your behalf.By following the simple, commonsense Timeless Face program, illustrated with clear photographs and instructions for each exercise, your face will look and feel more fit and more relaxed in just thirty days, and your entire being will be rejuvenated and revitalized.Isn't it time for you to discover the face you were meant to mature with-your own Timeless Face? ... 1-0 out of 5 stars May tone your muscles, but also causes wrinkles!
I think this book is terrible. These exericises "might" tighten some muscles of your face, but the way they are done would no doubt cause wrinkling. The descriptions of the exercises are vague such as "position your tongue and jaw".Huh?The pictures are not very good at showing you exactly which muscles you are supposed to be working either. In addition, they look ridiculous and not as though they would work the intended area. The pictures look like an out of work actress who enjoys looking at herself make faces in the mirror.I was totally disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars These exercises really work!
Timeless Face is an exercise program that goes much deeper than just skin care. The exercises also help emotionally.I suffer from depression and found in the past nine months of regularly doing both the facial and acupressure techniques that I feel better afterwards.I feel less tension in my face.

Just as exercise shapes and contours the body, exercise for the face can shape and contour the face. What happens when specific exercises are used for the face? The muscles become stronger and the skin becomes resilient. The user looks refreshed because the droopy skin has been revitalized.

Resistance exercise has proven to tone and lift the muscles in your body.Facial muscles are no different. They, too, firm and lift with exercise. The nine-week program introduces two easy-to-perform exercises per week that target fifteen areas of the face and neck.

This highly effective program will improve your upper eyelids, your brows, your upper cheeks and double chin, jaw line, turkey neck, wattle, vertical forehead lines and much, much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars An easy book to use and understand!
As an esthetician I have found this book amazingly helpful for my clients. I often reccommend it to those clients worried about losing muscle tone, and unable (or unwilling!) to get a face lift.
Do the exercizes...they're fun (!) and you'll get results! Immediately your skin with look healthier (rosier glow, less sallow) and over time you'll notice a difference. Taking pictures of yourself before and after ( after at least a month) will help you truthfully track your progress. Since we look at our face every day...it can be easy to miss gradual changes.
Pictures don't lie :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Really works, and makes your face FEEL better too!
This book really works. She explains the exercise by saying which emotion to imitate...i.e. looked surprised, or she might say show skepticism, or prissy, or humorous smile...etc. My face not only looks better (it actually was slightly sore even though I had been doing a different face routine religiously with Judith Olivia's "face aerobics"--I still like that one too, but feel this is more muscles worked in shorter time )
This is a book, which is the only downside for me. If this came out on DVD I would buy it in a heartbeat. Then again having the book is more portable, we just got back from a camping vacation and I could still do the exercises every day even without a dvd and tv. She shows a great pic of her face doing each exercise and gives tips on how to do it, and also tells you what muscle you are using and gives an optional accupressure spot to gently massage (very easy to do and feels great)
It really works. What surprised me most was my face felt less frozen...Iam only 31 and didn't even know my face had become "frozen" but i feel like emotional reactions come easier now for me. Again, Ididn't even know that had become a problem either. It really opened up my palatte of facial expressions! Meaning I feel like an artist with more colors to chose from.
I love how my face looks also!
I usually do this in the mornings, I keep the book on an end table near my favorite chair, and do this while my 4 year old watches sesame street.
At first it took me about an hour to read threw and really do correctly, but now I fly threw it in only 30 minutes....and I still have time to clean the floors before sesame street is over.
...It would also be easy to do at night while watching a favortie show...just do it on the commercials.
Your mirror reflection will thank you! ( I also do the eye bag excercise additonally while brushing my teeth since I want to work on my eyes most)
This is a great book, and I hope I look as great as the beautiful author at her age!!!! it makes old age sound fun if I could look like that!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very accessible
I value the Maggio book for it's precision but find the exercises confusing and tedious and so don't do them often. This book is more easy going but still fully details which muscles are being worked, offers more than one photo of the exercise and, if you're into it, lists the emotions causing those muscles to need to be rehabilitated.

I do wish there was a picture detailing the accupressure point on the pages of instructions accompanying every exercise but a sticky bookmark makes it easy enough to flip to the graphic when necessary. And, the thought she gives to help explain the movements are excellent. For instance, the Expression given for the Eye Crunch is, "I'm not peeking!" and it really helps one 'get' the movement far better than any other explainations I've read.

I've read that stretching the skin is to be avoided but no longer think this is cause for concern unless one is in the habit of wrecklessly distorting the face with one's hands for the mere fun of it. I notice on the instruction sheet for Frownies that one is required to stretch the skin in order to place them and many, many women have sworn by them for decades so it can't be a bad thing to *carefully* move to skin to rehabilitate it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Author wants to advise readers of this book
I am the author of this book. I feel this is a very good book, however the publishers made a serious error in editing when they did this book, and did not send galley proofs to me before publication. Warning: the meridian charts are not correct. The POINTS on each chart, eg. key points on the stomach meridian, ARE CORRECT, but the meridian lines showing the paths of the meridians are not correct. The reader should refer to the text, and, perhaps, buy a seperate set of charts. P. S. people who have used this book tell me it is very helpful. Helen Saul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Hello. I found this book in the bargain section about 10 years ago and I bought it just out of curiosity. I have suffered from stress anxiety most of my life so I figured that if it even helped a little bit it would be worth the price. I was amazed at the results! It really helped me destress. I used the techniques when I was pregnant a lot because I couldn't take any medicines or herbs to help me relax. It worked every time. I suggest trying it a little bit every day although I am not much good at the every day thing myself. It gets a firm 10 stars from me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Instant Emotional Healing: Acupressure for the Emotions by George J. Pratt, Ph.D. and Peter T. Lambrou, Ph.D.
My review is short and sweet. This book is fantastic. If you're open,
willing and ready for effective positive change, buy this book, learn the information and apply it.5 STARS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent material, beautifully written, easily understood
I highly recommend this book which explains the theories and practice of tapping your way to emotional freedom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing hints
I read this book on the advice of others and found it to be fascinating in its content.Do not be mislead by the title. The contents are helpful and link cognitive therapy with hands-on mrthods.

1-0 out of 5 stars Suggestion is very powerful
There is no evidence that Thought Field Therapy does what it claims.Suggestion and placebo are powerful agents of healing, indeed. But, according to the American Psychological Association, TFT is an approach which "lacks a scientific basis."There have been no studies which prove its effectiveness.

Granted, as a placebo, it works extremely well, in that it includes a highly ritualized series of exercises which makes extraordinary claims, which creates a high expectation and thus gives results. However, this cannot be seen as a trustworthy treatment for serious problems.

Use good judgment, do your own research, and don't trust anecdotal evidence.Pseudoscience does not have a place in standardized treatment, period. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful method
I discovered "New Beauty: The Acupressure Facelift" about five months ago and have practiced Lindsay's acupressure methods nearly every day since. I have noticed great results! I love this book and wish it would be re-printed. She provides a wonderful alternative to surgical facelifts--something plastic surgeons certainly wouldn't like! Still, I think all women should be able to learn about the benefits of facial massaging and exercises and decide for themselves if this method is right for them. It IS right for me.

Book Description
Acupressure therapy has evolved from dianxue, which is a traditional Chinese martial art technique of hitting an opponent at a selected acupoint on the body, so as to momentarily block the flow of blood and energy and cause unconsciousness. Based on the same theory, an acupressure therapist skillfully presses the same acupoint to promote the flow of blood and energy and heal an injury.

The therapy is administered by percussing, pressing and/or massaging selected acupoints and stimulation-lines of the body. It is effective for treating common illnesses and complicated diseases such as cerebral palsy and polio.

In clinical application, the therapy requires no drugs or instruments. It is safe, easy to learn, and can be practiced almost anywhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, useful, works in real life!
I have a busy, successful private practice as a licensed massage therapist, thanks a lot to the techniques shared in Mr. Ohashi's book. I graduated from Ohashi Institute a long time ago, used the techniques, then moved to Hawai'i and learned lomilomi massage and lately studied rolfing, orthopedic massage, craniosacral therapy, trigger point therapy, etc. It seemed like shiatsu techniques were not enough, because I had to work with injuries, pain, and other soft tissue problems. But ....

What can I say except that what Mr. Ohashi shares works! It works very well. After studying "deep tissue massage" from leading western experts, I learned to use Ohashi's techniques not only with meridians in mind, but also with muscles, trigger points, etc. in mind. It works!!!

Many techniques in his book are actually myofascial release, combined with rather low-key thai massage stretches and other kind of stretches. Many shiatsu points are in areas that are likely to have trigger points and/or get stuck. For example, the last point on the kidney meridian is where the first rib attaches to the sternum, so it is used for people with tight shoulders and neck due to stress. If you go to a chiropractor, they will punch you into that spot with the intent to release the first rib. A shiatsu person will press there to balance your kidney meridian. Ohashi shows you the stretch that will make pressing into that point very effective and easy.

I feel so extremely grateful to have had the privilege of studying with Mr. Ohashi. He teaches proper body mechanics and movement, and that helps so much when you have to do many treatments per day. I feel good after working.

Overall, I highly recommend this book, and I do hope you enjoy it. If you can, take a class with Ohashi, he teaches at Omega institute and many other places.

Book Description
For the past ten years, Andy Rosenfarb has successfully used acupuncture and Chinese medicine to treat a wide range of eye conditions. His treatments include moxibustion techniques, tuina (massage), microcurrent stimulation, Chinese herbs, and qigong exercises, along with “essential acupuncture” where essential oils are placed on acupuncture points. The culmination of his work—which includes a recent pioneering study involving metabolic testing–is this handbook for healing the kinds of conditions too often considered almost impossibly challenging or irreversible.

The first half of Healing Your Eyes with Chinese Medicine explains Traditional Chinese Medicine and its perspective on the eyes, which is based on the idea that the eyes and the brain work in tandem, not isolation. The second half focuses on proven methods derived from Rosenfarb’s practice, including nutritional, supplemental, and lifestyle adjustments. Individual chapters cover eye disorders such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and many more. This book is intended as a practical manual to help readers understand their eyes and vision more comprehensively, and to learn new, affordable ways for retaining the precious gift of sight. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had read this book in acupuncture school....
Another reviewer wrote that this book is not geared towards practitioners, I disagree as I was able to immediately use much of the information in my clinic.

I graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2002 and have been fortunate to operate an extremely busy Chinese Medicine practice since early 2003.I also participate in NIH funded research on Chinese Medicine through UMDNJ (University of Medicine and Dentistry, NJ).Over 90% of my patients are "medical throw-aways" who come to Chinese Medicine as a last resort after conventional medicine has failed.A significant percentage of these patients have been those with degenerative eye disorders.

After reading Andy's book on eye and vision disorders, I feel that this book should be a required text in modern acupuncture schools. When I was in school there were no books devoted to the exclusive practice of Chinese opthamology within a modern clinical setting. What little material I read on Chinese opthamology was isolated to theory and pattern discrimination...and of limited help in real world practice. If I had read this book four years ago when I started my practice, I would have had a greater success rate with my opthamology patients.

The information in this book reveals why Andy is considered by other acupuncturists to be a leading authority on traditional Chinese opthamology. This book is clearly a labor of love as he gives away many of the "secrets" that he has learned from specializing in eye disorders for the past 10 years.Any acupuncturist looking to specialize in eye disorders needs to read this book. There is a detailed explanation of Chinese meridian theory and how each elemental pair relates to treating certain eye disorders, and even after years of working as a professional acupuncturist I was able to find new information in this section.Yet what makes this book different from conventional text books is the conversational style of teaching that the author has, and the large amount of "real world" information presented that is only available from someone who has experienced plenty of success (as well as early failures) in his field.

For example, the book integrates Western and Eastern medical theories by breaking down the different part of the eye into their five element classifications (ie: sclera=metal, macula=water) and how specific western diagnoses of eye disorders such as age-related macular degeneration can be treated using traditional zhang-fu and meridian theory. His categorization of various opthamological diseases into five-element theory is then used to explain how the most common Chinese herbal formulas can be used to treat different disorders such as diabetic retinopathy and myopia.Additionally, there is information on the use of self-care exercises for the eyes, a unique explanation of essential oil therapy using Chinese theories, micro-current stimulation, and an explanation of how modern visual acuity tests can be integrated into a Chinese Medicine practice. Most of the above information I have not found in other texts.

As an acupuncturist I found this book to be a goldmine of clinical information for my practice. But if you are suffering from degenerative vision loss and are looking for alternative treatments, I feel that this book would be an excellent start to learn more about natural methods for healing the eyes.I have treated many patients with degenerative eye disorders and I know how terrifying the experience can be...but there is hope if you remain persistent in your search and keep an open mind.Knowledge and understanding will always overcome fear, and this book will give you a new level of understanding if you suffer from vision loss.Admittedly, there may be some parts of the book that might be difficult for the lay person to understand. The information has not been watered down and the author assumes that you have an intense interest in the subject. You will have to read the theory section in the first few chapters several times to be able to understand the more detailed information in the second half of the book, but this is to be expected as Chinese Medicine is a vast subject that takes many years to grasp.

Bottom line: Highly recommended for both clinicians and patients.Five Stars!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for patients and practitioners alike
This book is written in a way that both patients and practitioners alike will be able to get a lot out of it.The layout is clear, and it is very readable.

I was drawn into the book from the beginning.Even though I am very well acquainted with the basics of Chinese medicine and the organ functions, they are presented an a different context in this book.Everything is given within the context of the eyes and eye diseases. This allowed me to take the knowledge that I had on treatment principles in general, and apply it to eye patterns.

Perhaps the most outstanding aspect of the book is the holistic approach presented to working on eye diseases. There is information on lifestyle, eye exercises, qigong, herbs, acupressure, acupuncture, essential oils, magnets, and moxibustion. All of this information can be used by practitioners to improve their ability to treat eye problems.More importantly, it is written in a way that the patient can go home and do eye exercises, qigong, acupressure, or any of the other home treatment modalities presented in this book to further their eye health.

Overall an excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book for Practitioners
This book helped to fill the gap of this specialty. Andy gave descriptions of terms I have never heard of before that allowed me to appreciate it even more instead of hearing all the same 'ole boring descriptions/definitions that many others use or copy from other books.

The chapters were well organized and well suited for the beginner who wants to understand the organ functions pertaining to Chinese medicine and how a practitioner will treat eye disorders.

I now know what "snail-shell moxa" is by the pictures in the book.

Relating the western diagnosis to Chinese medical terms make this book useful and important to the practitioner as well as the authors own clinical experience he shares in this book.

I think anyone interested in vision health whether you are a practitioner or layperson will greatly benefit from this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hope for the blind
It's great what Andy is doing with TCM in the treatment of eye disorders, but the book is another story. It is not really geared to practitioners so he doesn't go into any detail regarding his system of "micro-acupuncture".On the other hand he gives formula names, herbs, and dosages which are great for a student of acupuncture. He also gives unique info on the use of essential oils. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fabulous resource and very readable
The word "comprehensive" may have been invented to describe this book - it definitely is an encyclopedia, not just in its alphabetic listing and cross-references, but also in its breadth of knowledge.Unless you area bodywork specialist, this book probably has much more than you would everwant to know about what seem to be some very esoteric practices. However,it is a fabulous resource to use to find out about alternative therapies(the section on acupuncture was the most comprehensive and easy to read Ihave come across in all my research) and Stillerman has a wonderfulbibliography and resource listing (many resources have been transcribedinto my Complementary Medicine Resources list).Reading it from cover tocover as I did was an interesting experience in that it showed theinterrelated qualities and history of many types of bodywork (someindividuals had the same teachers or came out of the same schools ofthought and developed in their own direction).Stillerman does not judgeany of the bodywork methods she reviews so it is up to the reader to decidewhether or not a particular method would be right for their condition (thisis where the bibliography and resource list is invaluable for furtherinvestigation). An excellent resource but unless you're a massage/bodyworkprofessional, you probably won't want to purchase this book - just borrowit from the library. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Useful Addition to the Qigong Literature
This is a typically workman-like product of the Chinese Foreign Languages Press, that has been putting out textbooks for many years. It is comprehensive and well-produced.

The reaons for the four stars rather than five is this: although the techniques can indeed be used by an individual as part of a self care program, this book requires a fair amount of knowledge about finding specific acupuncture points. Though they are illustrated, it can be hard to find some of them from the pictures. Secondly most contemporary Chinese acupuncturists acknowledge that although some acupuncture points are always in pretty much the same place, the positions of some of thepoints are not precise, and have to be found by palpation. If a person hasn't been shown how to do that, they may miss the spot, and then it is less likely that the treatment will be effective.

So the main audience for this book will be acupuncturists who want to give their patients some homework. And for that it is first rate. ... Read more

Book Description
Every day, thousands of people in our fitness conscious culture do just what the TV commercials and their doctors tell them:``Play hard,'' `` Just do it.''They challenge their cardiovascular systems, participate in aerobics, work out with weights and machines, compete at games they last played in their youth, ride bikes, and run races.
