Product Description

A simple and authoritative challenge to the conventional wisdom about AIDS, this newly revised book probes widely held assumptions about the risks, tests, and treatments associated with this controversial disease. The ideas of the general public—that everyone is at risk, that AIDS is widespread, that HIV is proven to cause AIDS, and that drug treatments or vaccines offer the only hope to resolve health problems associated with AIDS—are refuted, and new information is presented on AIDS in Africa and recent research on the effects of AZT, protease inhibitors, and combo cocktails. A recommended reading list and website directory supply tools for further study, and first-person accounts from naturally healthy HIV-positive men, women, and children give the facts a human face.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Mother of HIV/AIDS Denialism
If you really want to challenge the HIV/AIDS establishment, challenge the idea that it is cost prohibitive to provide care to people in the world that can't afford treatment. The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation has a very high rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. Here is their site: [...]

What offends me so much about the denialists is their seeming belief that the rules that apply to the millions dying of HIV infection will not apply to them. Even Maggiore, with her very health lifestyle, succumbed to disease in about 15 years.A long time for an untreated HIV-positive person to live, but 52 years old is still too young to die.And 3-years-old, like her poor baby girl, is heartbreakingly too young.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction for those who seek the truth
If you carefully study the subject, you will find that the HIV/AIDS is nothing but hypothesis. Nothing has ever been proven that AIDS is caused by HIV. I believe most of the negative reviews of the book is written by an AIDS "doctor" or pharmaceutical insider. The whole "AIDS industry" is desperately trying to squash the AIDS dissident movements because their existence is at stake. If you are given some HIV drugs, which are all very toxic, I strongly recommend that you read this book first. After all, YOU have to decide your own action.

1-0 out of 5 stars The author herself died of AIDS
It needs to be recorded that the author died in December 2008. Her death certificate, available on the AIDS Truth website, records that she died of bilateral pneumonia, disseminated herpes virus infection and oral candidiasis. In an HIV-infected person such as the late author, these are AIDS-defining conditions. Moreover, her daughter died of AIDS at age 3. Hence after writing a book claiming that HIV is harmless, the author was killed by this deadly virus. That message needs to be understood by anyone thinking of believing any of the nonsense the book promotes. In life, the author was responsible for influencing the South African government to stop distributing life saving anti-retroviral drugs to HIV-infected pregnant women, thereby condemning thousands of unborn children to death. In death, she is the poster child for the lethal folly of the AIDS denialist movement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Christine Maggiore saved my life
A few reviewers have left short, nasty reviews of this book. They would have you believe that both the author and her daughter Eliza Jane died of AIDS-related pneumonia.

Here's what they won't tell you:

1)Since her death in 2005, Eliza Jane's lung slides have been submitted as evidence in no fewer than three criminal court cases in Texas and California, as an example of healthy lung tissue. These slides are available for review at http://justiceforej.com/al-bayati.html.I challenge anyone to look at these slides and find any sign of pneumonia. How did E.J. die of AIDS-related pneumonia if she didn't have pneumonia?

2)In the last weeks of her life, Eliza Jane was examined by three different physicians, all of whom found her lungs to be clear. The last of these, Dr. Philip Incao, prescribed amoxicillin for an inner ear infection.Upon taking her first doses of amoxicillin, E.J. immediately became ill and within 48 hours of the first dose, she was dead.
(Source:LA Times, "A Mother's Denial, A Daughter's Death", September 24, 2005, Anna Gorman)

3)The coroner who ruled Eliza Jane's death to be an AIDS death, Dr. James "Shake and bake a shaken baby" Ribe has come under investigation for numerous counts of perjury, and several innocent parents wrongly convicted in their children's deaths have since been exonerated.Tragically, however, some remain behind bars, including Patricia Inez Vildosola, who is currently serving a life sentence for the death of her child, Destiny Jacobo, even though the child's father has been exonerated, the court having found that his daughter's death was not a homicide nor was it due to any sort of criminal negligence or neglect on the part of the parents.More info can be found at http://justiceforej.com/ribeflipflops.html

But the most important fact that Christine's critics will never tell you is:

CHRISTINE MAGGIORE WAS HIV-NEGATIVE.

Christine Maggiore first tested positive in 1992.A year later, she was retested about a dozen or so times, and got multiple negative results, multiple indeterminate results, and multiple positive results. This was one of the things that first led her to question the validity of HIV tests.

Now, the common wisdom among AIDS professionals is that in a patient who is truly infected with HIV, the test will only vacillate in the first 3-6 months after initial infection, but after 6 months, if the patient is truly infected, they will consistently test positive.Since Christine tested negative more than a year after her initial positive test (and was in an extremely low-risk group to begin with,) it is far more than likely that she was an example of what is known as a persistent false positive.

I am far from the first person to point this out.In fact, her critics were saying exactly that, just before they got the "good news" of her daughter's death.Check out this Amazon review of Christine's book:http://www.amazon.com/review/R1EH1AJRT9XT6F/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&ASIN=0967415306Also, check out this New York Press article:http://www.nypress.com/print-article-11727-print.html

So, Christine died of AIDS-related pneumonia, even though she didn't have HIV, and her daughter also died of AIDS-related pneumonia, except that she didn't have pneumonia of any sort, AIDS-related or otherwise.

It seems to me that if there were any actual scientific proof that Christine was wrong, these grave-dancing ghouls would pony up that proof, and allow Christine and her daughter to rest in peace.Let their behavior stand as proof that they have no other way to prove her wrong.

And who am I to say these things?I happen to be someone whose life was spared as a direct result of the work of people like Christine Maggiore. Before I read this book, I weighed 120 pounds in wet clothing and I was struggling for every breath.Today I weigh 200 pounds buck naked and I sing (albeit badly) in a hard rock band.

If Christine's critics would use her and E.J.'s deaths as anecdotal evidence that Christine was wrong, then I am the living proof that she was right.

1-0 out of 5 stars What if everything Christine thought she knew abouts AIDS was wrong???
The truth is out there...Now she's dead too.Maybe had she sought medically accepted treatment rather than writing this crock of woo she and her daughter would still be alive. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
One of the first books questioning the HIV/AIDS hypothesis, and still one of the best. This book suggests that AIDS is late stage syphilis. 20 years later, late stage syphilis is still highly plausible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking work!
One of the first books to challenge the conventional HIV/AIDS hypothesis. Some of the research is a bit dated but the underlying theme is still valid: the evidence for HIV causation of AIDs is slim if it exists atall.

More recent books challenging the HIV/AIDS theory such as RethinkingAIDS are more relevant than AIDS and Syphillis but it's still an excellentbook.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shockingly ignorant
The data and analysis are outdated and, more importantly, dangerous!

I question the value of having this 11 year old book still in print, when we have made leaps and bounds in the search of the cause and cure of HIV/AIDS since then. ... Read more

Product Description
On the issue of HIV/AIDS, the majority of South Africans can be divided into two broad categories: those who bury their heads in the sand and deny that the epidemic exists, and those who believe that it exists but they cannot do anything about it.In this book, Alan Whiteside and Clem Sunter offer a third view which is shared by a small number of people active in the HIV/AIDS field: there is an epidemic but there are plenty of things we can do to prevent it spreading further and to ameliorate the impact of increasing sickness and death among those already infected. The book covers the likely origin of HIV/AIDS; the current situation in the world and in Africa; why it has hit South Africa so harshly; and the possible demographic, economic, and social consequences for society over the next twenty years.Along the way, the authors dispose of many myths associated with the epidemic. Finally, rather than proposing a grand, monolithic plan, the authors recommend a grassroots approach made up of many small initiatives, pursued on as wide a front as possible, to overcome the epidemic and soften its impact. The message of the book is that we can beat HIV/AIDS, but we must all in our own way take appropriate action now. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars excellent intro to an unprecedented catastrophe
This is a very good and informative pamphlet on the HIV/Aids crisis that will kill up to 8 million S Africans in the next ten years. That is about 1/4 of the population.By that time, 30% of all children under 15 will be orphans!

This book looks at the shape of the epidemic, the causes of its spread in Southern Africa at an unprecedented rate, and possible solutions. The subject is so alarming and bleak that it is impossible to exagerate. While it goes a bit too easy on the government's and Pres. Mbeki's personal responsibility in an attempt to avoid controversy, it hits hard nonetheless.

I will use this book as essential background in my current writing project. While I may have wanted a bit more scientific and historical detail at times, this book strikes a superb balance between popularisation, accurate reporting, and a call to arms.It should serve as a model to the genre.

HIV/Aids will kill a huge proportion of the global human populaton over the next 25 years, and will be looked upon as the holocost of the 21st C.While treatment regimes exist, they are proving inadequate and too costly to halt the disease's spread at this time.Books like this one are urgently needed. ... Product Description

In some parts of South Africa, more than one in three people are HIV positive. Love in the Time of AIDS explores transformations in notions of gender and intimacy to try to understand the roots of this virulent epidemic. By living in an informal settlement and collecting love letters, cell phone text messages, oral histories, and archival materials, Mark Hunter details the everyday social inequalities that have resulted in untimely deaths. Hunter shows how first apartheid and then chronic unemployment have become entangled with ideas about femininity, masculinity, love, and sex and have created an economy of exchange that perpetuates the transmission of HIV/AIDS. This sobering ethnography challenges conventional understandings of HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

Product Description
The AIDS pandemic is likely to become the greatest catastrophe in human history. Unless a safe, effective vaccine is quickly developed, or the preventive strategies outlined in this book are widely applied, by 2015 one sixth of the world's population will be infected by HIV-1 and some 250 million people will have died from AIDS. Its associated losses by then will be more than those of the Black Death and World War II combined, the equivalent of eight World War Is.1

This pandemic is only one of several ongoing catastrophes involving viruses that encode the selenoenzyme glutathione peroxidase.2 Indeed, the world is experiencing simultaneous pandemics caused by Hepatitis B and C viruses, Coxsackie B virus and HIV-1 and HIV-2. As these viruses replicate, because their genetic codes include a gene that is virtually identical to that of the human enzyme glutathione peroxidase, they rob their hosts of selenium. Paradoxically, however, they diffuse most easily in populations that are very selenium deficient,3 possibly because their members have depressed immune systems. It is no coincidence that such viruses are causing havoc at the beginning of the 21st century. The last 50 years have seen enormous expansions in the use of fossil fuels and deforestation by fire. The resulting pollutants have greatly increased the acidity of global precipitation, reducing selenium's ability to enter the food chain. This situation is being made worse by the widespread use of commercial fertilizers since their sulphates, nitrogen, and phosphorus all depress the uptake of selenium by crops. Deficiencies in this essential trace element are being felt most acutely in areas, such as sub-Saharan Africa, where soil selenium levels are naturally very low. Acid rain is making a bad situation worse, so increasing vulnerability to those viruses that encode glutathione peroxidase. Many populations are also being exposed to a thinning ozone layer, heavy metals such as mercury and cadmium, pesticides, and drug, tobacco, and alcohol abuse, all of which depress the human immune system, increasing vulnerability to viruses, including HIV-1 and HIV-2.

In July 2000, physicians and scientists from around the world met in Durban, South Africa for the XIII International AIDS Conference. In a declaration, named after the city, 5,018 of them proclaimed that "HIV is the sole cause of AIDS."4 There are, however, at least seven anomalies that strongly suggest that this conventional wisdom is incorrect and that belief in it is blocking progress in the development of new treatments for AIDS and of novel ways of preventing its spread. To illustrate, despite widespread unprotected promiscuous sexual activity in Senegal, HIV- 1 is diffusing very slowly, if at all, amongst the Senegalese.5 It is very apparent that in Africa, differences in soil selenium levels are greatly influencing who becomes infected with HIV-1 and who does not. Indeed, the recently published Selenium World Atlas used the incidence of HIV-1 as a surrogate measure of soil selenium levels because actual levels are, as yet, poorly established in sub-Saharan Africa. A similar relationship has been documented in the United States6 where there has been an inverse relationship, especially in the Black population, between mortality from AIDS and local soil selenium levels.

It is well established that individuals who are HIV-positive gradually become more and more selenium deficient.7 This decline, which is known to undermine immune functions, is not unique to HIV-infection but is seen in almost all infectious pathogens.8 However, under normal circumstances, where death does not occur, selenium levels rebound soon after recovery. HIV-1, however, can effectively elude the defense mechanisms of the immune system, and can continue to replicate indefinitely, endlessly depressing serum selenium. As a result, the immune system is compromised, allowing infection by other pathogens that continue to deplete the host of selenium, allowing HIV-1 to replicate more easily, further undermining immunity. Therefore, this relationship between selenium and the immune system is one of positive feedback, in which a decline in either of these two variables causes further depression in the other. Termed the "selenium- CD4 T cell tailspin" by the author,9 it is the reason that serum selenium levels are a better predictor of AIDS mortality than CD4 T cell counts. Like other positive feedback systems, such as avalanches and forest fires, it is extremely difficult to control and gains momentum as it progresses.

HIV-1, however, encodes the entire selenoenzyme, glutathione peroxidase. As it replicates, therefore, it depletes its host not only of selenium but also of the other three components of this enzyme: namely, cysteine, glutamine, and tryptophan.10 AIDS, therefore, is a nutritional deficiency illness caused by a virus. Its victims suffer from extreme deficiencies of all four of these nutrients which are responsible for such symptoms as depressed CD4T lymphocyte count, vulnerability to cancers (including Kaposi's sarcoma), depression, psoriasis, diarrhea, muscle wasting, and dementia. Associated infections cause their own unique symptoms and increased risk of death.

HIV-1 alone, therefore, does not cause AIDS. It involves a multiplicity of co-factors, specifically anything that either depletes serum selenium levels or depresses the immune system enough to permit viral replication. Manipulating the "selenium-CD4T cell tailspin" by adding this trace element to fertilizers and food stuffs opens new avenues for both prevention and treatment. This strategy has been shown to work on other viruses that encode glutathione peroxidase, such as Hepatitis B and C and the Coxsackievirus. The logical treatment of AIDS patients involves supplementation with selenium, cysteine, glutamine, and tryptophan, at least to levels at which deficiency symptoms associated with a lack of these nutrients disappear. While this can be most easily achieved by supplements, certain foods contain elevated levels of those four nutrients. Strangely enough, one of the ideal meals for anyone who is HIV-seropositive would include a cheeseburger to which Brazilnut flour had been added to the bun.

Product Description
Despite common belief, there is no scientific evidence to this day that AIDS is a contagious disease. The current AIDS theory falls short in predicting the kind of AIDS disease an infected person may be manifesting, and there is no accurate system to determine how long it will take for the disease to develop. In addition, the current HIV/AIDS theory contains no reliable information that can help identify those who are at risk of developing AIDS.On the other hand, published research actually proves that HIV only extremely rarely spreads heterosexually and cannot be responsible for an epidemic that involves millions of AIDS victims around the world. Furthermore, it is an established fact that the retrovirus HIV, which is composed of human gene fragments, is incapable of destroying human cells. However, cell destruction is the main characteristic of every AIDS disease. Even the principal discoverer of HIV, Luc Montagnier, no longer believes that HIV is solely responsible for causing AIDS. In fact, he showed that HIV alone could not cause AIDS. There is increasing evidence that AIDS may be a toxicity syndrome or metabolic disorder that is caused by immunity risk factors, including heroin, sex drugs, antibiotics, commonly prescribed AIDS drugs, rectal intercourse, starvation, malnutrition and dehydration. Dozens of prominent scientists working at the forefront of the AIDS research are now openly questioning the virus hypothesis of AIDS. Find out why! Ending the AIDS Myth also shows you what really causes the shutdown of the immune system and what needs to be done to avoid it! ... Read more

Exellent book citing medical references and data that have no political agenda. In a subject matter of spin, misinformation, progaganda, and out right lies, this book stands alone. Much of it is dry due to the referential material, but points are well taken in light of what should have been public health matters. This book is a bane for those whose political viewpoint is now considered mainstream in light of the problem that no political entity will even consider what reason and the author conclude.

1-0 out of 5 stars Propaganda
The cover is a little different but this is the same book as the one cross listed under the same title. It was written back in the 1980s so the information is terribly outdated. The studies referred to are used outside of their medical context. The author, who is not a physician, also voices his own conclusions without any supporting medical evidence. More than half of the book is dedicated to discriminating against gay men and lesbians (also without any credible medical evidence) by relaying homophobic scenarios like the possibility of "catching AIDS from a toilet seat"-an impossibility according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The author concludes by the last chapters that the entire homosexual population must be confined to camps to protect the public. This book is propaganda for homosexual genocide. Skip this one; it's not worth your money.
