5-0 out of 5 stars From an Earlier Era
The writer captures life in the time and place her novel is set with total authenticity. Her characters are as genuine as next door neighbors of that era.I loved this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Paradox, Definitely
The Last of the Whitfields is simultaneously serious and humorous. Set in a "backwoods little town," Ashton, Georgia, it tells a little girl's story as she matures in the "backwards" South. It is difficult to tell the South's story through the eyes of child, but Sanguinetti delivers. The child speaker brings a more light tone to the racial issues of the 1960s. Issues like Civil Rights (Sit-ins), Integration, and racial misconceptions are touched upon (though ever so lightly). This is a wonderful book for a light read, especially if you love Southern literature, as I do. (I should know, too, y'all; I'm from the South). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Award Winner for Book Design
This book has received an Honorable Mention from the 2001 Southern Books Competition. "A dramatic front cover, a striking half title page and a bright, cheerful title quickly tell the reader that is a special book. Architecture needs to be seen to be appreciated, and this book does that very well. Photographs are most effectively presented, and the images are exceptional. Quite readable captions guide and inform. Chapter openings dazzle and invite the reader to turn the pages." Congratulations to the author and photographer, designer Robin McDonald, and the University of Alabama Press.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superbly presented regional archiectural survey and history.
Alabama Architecture: Looking At Building And Place by architectural historian and preservationist Alice Meriwether Bowsher is a gorgeous coffee table book filled with expansive, full-color photography by M. Lewis Kennedy Jr. of the most unique, stylized, and flavorful examples of Alabama's unique architectural heritage. A few essays are included, but the majority of Alabama Architecture focuses on the crystal-clear pictures with only brief captions to describe the most notable features of the buildings depicted. A most beautiful and eye-catching book of Alabama's best combinations of art and shelter, Alabama Architecture is a superbly presented and highly recommended addition to any professional or academic Architectural Studies reference collection. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Balder-Dash
Paul Finebaum's baldness has driven him to spew forth his hatred, at book length, for nearly every academic institution that has crossed his hairless mind.In fact, Bammers aren't so bad. They spend a lot of time hating Auburn and Tennessee, leaving the rest of us free to pursue other things.

2-0 out of 5 stars Paul Finebaum is a moron
I received this book as a gag gift and read it anyway. Paul Finebaum has had few origional ideas of his own and makes a living from bashing people and misrepresenting the truth. The jokes are recycled and stale. You can plug in any schools name in place of Alabama. I would recommend this book for bird cage liner or wrapping fish.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Hate Alabama
I would have to say that this book hits the nail on the head a true masterpiece of intelligence and humor. It is to bad that most Alabama fans do not know how to read.I think they would truly enjoy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think this book is hilarious
I think Paul Finebaum writes the most hilarious short books, but being a die hard Auburn Fan, I think this is the funniest, yet true book, I have ever read. I hate Alabama, 303 reasons you should too brings out laughterin anyone's eyes and sometimes will give you a chuckle or too. This is amust buy for anyone.I love it and I am very confident that you guys andgals will love it and laugh just as much as I did. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great read for any lover of reptiles and amphibians!
A wonderful guide for identifying and learning about reptiles and amphibians in Alabama. I love this book because it goes into great detail about specimens. It is so much more extensive and educational than a field guide. I have identified various herps correctly using this book. The only aspect I would change would be to include color photos of the animals described. The black and white photos are great but you can not see the beauty of the wonderful reptiles and amphibians. It just makes me want to go out and discover the live specimens for myself. A must have addition to anyone's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST book on Alabama herps, period.
Mount's book is the most authoritative to date on Alabama herpetology.Written for the professional and lay reader alike, this book is a "must-have" for herpetologists working not only in Alabama, butanywhere in the Southeast (I've already worn out a couple of copies).Thedetailed range maps are among its most useful features (multiple dots incounties indicating actual collection localities, not just a single dot percounty).Another helpful section is Mount's description of thephysiographic regions of the state, which he discusses as"herpetofaunal regions."Published in 1975, the book is becominga bit dated, but a forword by the author in the 1996 re-issue brings thereader up to speed on recent discoveries.Black-and-white photographsaccompany each species account. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Managing Wildlife: On Private Lands in Alabama and the Southeast
This book is, without question, the most comprehensive, well-written, and practical reference book that I have ever encountered on the topic and deserves a place next to the monumental "Game Management" by Aldo Leopold. Dr. Greg Yarrow is a certified wildlife biologist and prominent figure in the field of wildlife biology and management. In this beautifully illustrated book, the principles of wildlife management are laid out in a way that is both scientifically sound and understandable to anyone. In addition to discussing the management and biology of charismatic game species such as white-tail deer, wild turkey, and quail, it also explores such topics as managing for non-game, managing for furbearers, pond management, et cetera. Managing Wildlife is a "must have" for both the professional wildlife biologist as well as the average land owner who endeavors to manage his or her land effectively, responsibly, and ethically. ...
