5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect!!!
This book gave my son his youth back. What kids doesn't like to lick the spatula after mom makes cookies. When I got this book I immediately started baking. I have make 4 things so far and they are all perfect. I just finished making the cho.chip cookies and you cannot tell them apart from regular cho.chip. I can't thank Kelly Rudnicki enough for having the time to experiment and come up with the right "chemistry" for simple baking. You are my Hero.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful food allergy baking book
Since I purchased "the Food Allergy Mama's Baking Book" it has become so much easier to prepare wonderful goodies for our family members with food allergies. All of Kelly Rudnicki's recipes are dairy, egg and nut free, and are so delicious that everyone in the entire family enjoys them. I have recommended it to all my family members and friends who have asked for safe recipes. Worth every penny!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my son's life
I purchased this book 6 months ago & wanted to wait until we made several items before writing a review. I've purchased other books that have ended up with one decent recipe & didn't want to make the same mistake. My son (almost 3) & I have made all but a few items & we LOVED every one! This has been life changing for my son with severe dairy, egg, & nut allergies. Not only have we been able to bake with everyday items but it has made my toddler less picky since he is able to help me "make Philip's food". We even started making items to bring to family gatherings which get wonderful reviews & give my son a huge sense of pride showing off what he made! Love love love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best!
This is absolutely the best tool I have found to combat my recent egg allergy. I have been at a loss as to how to bake anything yummy without eggs. I emailed Kelly because I am only allergic to eggs not all things dairy and wondered if I could use cows milk and butter in the recipes. Not only did I get a response but I got it the same day I sent the email. Was told that the recipes could definitely be modified with both but recommended margarine instead of butter. Have tried the lemon cake and zucchini bread up to this point and absolutely love them both. The cake is the moistest homemade cake I have ever made with or without eggs! 5 Stars in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and good
I love this book!I purchased this book and the Allergen-free Baker's handbook but I ended up keeping this one and returning the other one. This book gives you natural ingredients (baking soda, buttermilk, etc) to substitute the egg unlike the other one that tells you to purchase the Ener-G egg replacer.
Best of all, the recipes are really good. You can't even tell that they don't have any eggs in them. I made the chocolate chip cookie first and my mother-in-law asked me if I bought them. That's how good they were.
Also, some of the recipes calls for rice flour, but since my daughter can have the regular flour, I used it instead and it still turned out good. The other book (Allergen-free Baker's handbook) specifically says that you can't substitute ingredients...well, not in this book.

I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Allergy info
This book is a God-send....It is simply written and products are readily found. It makes problems with allergies seem an everyday
thing....No more mindless wandering the Supermarkets...This makes
allergy problems disappear.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is one of our go-to cook books
We have many many allergies in our family ... this is one of our go-to cook books. The author provides a lot of information about different flours and possible substitutes. We can't have tomatoes, corn, or coconut on top of all the usual suspects - so have to substitute for those, but with such a wide range of allergies - I don't expect one customized just for our family, unless of course I put one together! I feel this book gives me the know-how on allergen-free cooking. Many thanks to the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Simple Recipes that Impress
We have been using this cookbook over the past week and are really impressed with it.I've made the Falafel with Lemon Tahini Dressing, Lemon & Oregano Chicken and the Lemon Chicken Soup with Rice. All have turned out amazing and what's nice is that the recipes are pretty simple with not a lot of ingredients. I'm sure you will find this cookbook essential if you are interested in healthy eating and don't mind the lack of photos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good ideas
Great recipes but wish she would've omitted corn or given corn free or more soy free alternatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loving this book
I just got this book last week and have made 5 recipes. So far, all have been winners.Love that I don't have to make any subs - unless I choose to solely for taste preference. That being said, these recipes easily stand on their own. They are simple, fast and very tasty for kids and adults alike.Yay!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite allergy free cookbook
So far, this is the best allergy friendly cookbook I've bought. We have two allergic boys ages 5 and 2.This book provides different types of main dishes, breads, treats, etc. and it is all stuff that kids like!I can't wait to try more!

3-0 out of 5 stars Meh.
Truthfully, if you have more than one child with more than one food allergy or sensitivity, you really have to take what you can get in the way of cookbooks. This one is okay. There are some good ideas for dinners in it, and some interesting solutions to snack foods. My biggest complaint is the baked goods.Ugh.No matter how pretty and fluffy they looked in the picture, they have so far all turned out to be gummy, gritty bricks. If you know your way around gluten-free baking, it is possible to adapt the recipes and make them more appetizing.I would definitely not recommend this one to people who are trying gluten-free baking for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Easy, SAFE Recipes
I recently got the cookbook b/c my daughter has multiple food allergies as well as some feeding issues. The first recipe we made was incredible. The food is so easy to make and the recipes are simple.Yes there are some ingredients that are uncommon, but its easy to leave them out.I found it nice to be able to modify the recipes without scarficing taste. This book is becoming a staple in our house.

Some of the other reviews argue that it relies on rice flour alot and yes it does. However, it also uses alot of other flours, as well as giving substitution ideas in the recipe itself and the forward. In my opinion, people need to realize that if you are going to be cooking completely allergy friendly, you will be using a variety on non-mainstreamed ingredients.

Happy Cooking!!!

Product Description
Autism is an epidemic: It has spiked 1,500 percent in the last twenty years. ADHD, asthma and allergies have also skyrocketed over the same time period. One of these conditions now strikes one in every three children in America. But there is hope. Leading medical innovator Kenneth Bock, M.D., has helped change the lives of more than a thousand children, and in this important book, with a comprehensive program that targets all four of the 4-A disorders, he offers help to children everywhere. This is the book that finally puts hope within reach.

Doctors have generally overlooked the connections among the 4-A disorders, despite their concurrent rise and the presence of many medical clues. For years the medical establishment has considered autism medically untreatable and utterly incurable, and has limited ADHD treatment mainly to symptom suppression. Dr. Bock and his colleagues, however, have discovered a solution – one that goes to the root of the problem. They have found that deadly modern toxins, nutritional deficiencies, metabolic imbalances, genetic vulnerabilities and assaults on the immune and gastrointestinal systems trigger most of the symptoms of the 4-A disorders, resulting in frequent misdiagnosis and untold misery.

Dr. Bock’s remarkable Healing Program, drawing on medical research and based on years of clinical success, offers a safe, sensible solution that is individualized to each child to help remedy these root causes. The biomedical approach to autism, ADHD, and the other 4-A epidemics, as innovated by Dr. Bock and some of America’s finest integrative physicians, is one of the most promising and exciting medical movements of our time.

In this eminently readable account, written by Dr. Bock in collaboration with critically acclaimed author Cameron Stauth, you will meet children and parents whose dramatic stories will inspire you to change the life of your own child. This program may be the help that you have been praying for.

5-0 out of 5 stars 3 of my children recovered or improved SIGNIFICANTLY from following this book - You Must Get It.
I have 4 children. One with Aspergers, one with ADD and one with Allergies, the other one shows no signs of these things. I saw my friend's son go from not talking and sitting alone to running, talking and playing. She told me it was because of following the things she learned in this book and loaned it to me. After reading it I was amazed. How could I have been so blind? I started implementing what was in this book and within 2 weeks were were able to take my daughter with the high functioning Autism off of one of her meds for the first time in 4 years. Then my daughter with Allergies stopped needing meds and stopped needing to carry a box of tissues around. My son with ADD and some signs of Aspergers broke the diet with a cheeseburger one night and the next day the school called and asked what had happened to him. He was dazed, spinning, couldn't listen or follow the class and was totally out of it. Being a skeptic myself I was shocked that gluten could have this much of effect on him. after 3 or 4 days my son started to do well again. The vits. they suggest, the diet they suggest, we have only followed about 5% of it and I can say that my kids are 50% recovered. You must read this book. It is not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I am about to upload a show about it on youtube to share the knowledge I have gained. [...] If you have a child or person in your family with any of these problems and you have tried everything and nothing works, try this. I have been researching and trying things for YEARS and this is the first thing that actually helped my children in a life changing way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read for ANYONE who works with kids!
I don't have children diagnosed with these conditions but I found the information in this book so informative! Anyone with kids should read this book. It really highlights what American children are going through and provides insight to so many factors of their little bodies. I have been encouraging all my friends, family, and teachers I know to read this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Science, research, please?
Author lost me immediately with anecdotal evidence of the alleged connection between vaccines and autism.... no scientific evidence presented (probably because none exists).

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME Book!
This book is changing my son's life!Since reading this book, I have started him on a new diet and supplements and am currently looking for a DAN doctor. In the 6 weeks that we have made these changes, his behavior has improved tremendously.Yes, the diet is hard on us all, but for him, it is more than worth it.I have already recommended this book to so many others. It is in an easy format that I can even understand all the medical information along with clear suggestions and lots of advice and information.I'm so thrilled I found and bought this book!

Product Description
* A leading international authority on food allergy and intolerance provides invaluable advice for achieving dramatic and long-lasting improvements in your health.* Explains how sensitivity to foods is responsible for many chronic and misdiagnosed ailments such as migraines, sinus problems, and persistent fatigue.* Includes a step-by-step process for identifying food allergies and intolerances and reshaping your diet for better health.

Many people suffer from chronic, unexplained health problems--migraine headaches, poor digestion, recurring sinus symptoms, aching muscles and joints, persistent fatigue--whose causes remain elusive, even to doctors. When conventional tests fail to provide a clear-cut diagnosis, doctors often suggest that these symptoms are due to stress or anxiety, but now Jonathan Brostoff and Linda Gamlin demonstrate that quite often food allergies and food intolerance are the true culprits in these situations.

The authors provide clear explanations of the causes of, as well as the differences between, food allergies and food intolerance and offer numerous case studies on problems all too familiar to many readers. More important, they provide much-needed solutions and treatments for these problems. Along with a wealth of illustrations and charts, Food Allergies and Food Intolerance includes an invaluable step-by-step process for diagnosing food intolerance with a three-stage elimination diet and a system of gradual food reintroduction. A must for anyone who suspects a chronic condition may be linked to dietary sensitivity, Food Allergies and Food Intolerance supplies information that often results in dramatic and long-lasting improvement in people's health and in their lives. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Food Sensitivities
I'm sensitive to most foods, vitamins & supplements. After becoming sensitive to a drug which I took for 32 years in Jan., I became really sick.Didn't get much help from doctors. At first, I blamed the drug but I now think that my system got all messed up & ended up with chronic fatigue syndrome.Anyway, I can't take medications with the exception to the one I'm taking now & it no longer helps me so I'm weening off it.The immunologist that I saw basically told me that there was nothing wrong with me as he didn't even believe that someone is sensitive to foods or preservatives. This was one medication that helped me somewhat as I was able to eat a few more things but he said in no time I would eat anything I wanted.Well, he was wrong. This started slowly 14 yrs. ago & progressively got worse.I was exhausted but now I'm just tired so that's better. This book was a god send.He suggested taking yogurt with live bacteria & this has helped me tremendously with loose bowels which I've had since January.I was always a fast eater, I now chew my food thoroughly. He also mentioned sometimes people hyperventilate without realizing it so I work on my breathing.I do yoga twice a day & try to remember my breathing throughout the day.I would love to know why this started 14 yrs. ago but, at least, this book is a help.I have not been able to read it all yet as I do have macular degeneration so I can read a little at a time. This is a very good book for people who have problems with food.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breaking new medical ground
It's a big step forward: bringing this new under-diagnosed medical problem into the open. This is not"allergy" per se and most docs are unaware of the damage it does to people.

2-0 out of 5 stars Allergy Book
This book was okay for a 2001 publication.I would think it is outdated by now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misinformation on trace reactions, valuable in other ways
This book has useful information.Especially the section on cross-reactions in food intolerance at the end is completely consistent with my food reactions.I used his info on cross reactions to plan a personal rotation diet that's worked well for me.I haven't developed new food intolerances to any of the foods that I've rotated, meaning that if I eat a food on one day, I don't eat any food that Brostoff thinks will cross-react with it, until four days later.I *have* developed new food intolerances to many foods that I haven't carefully rotated.
But, bad information on trace reactions! He says pretty flatly that people don't have food intolerance reactions to trace amounts.I do, and many other people on forums online have said they do too.For example, when I was finding out about my corn intolerance, I tried to eliminate corn completely for a week. Then I took a kernel of corn, and I sliced it with a razor blade in half, and half again ... then when I got down to 1/16 of a corn kernel, a tiny blob on my fingertip, I ate it ... and I was severely sick for 5 days.I used to feed the squirrels peanut butter, and one time I didn't wash my hands very carefully afterwards and a little peanut butter got under my fingernail, and I nibbled on my fingers and ate it.A little flash of peanut flavor:and I was sick for four days ...
I don't know why he is so sure people don't have non-allergic reactions to traces.Allergists have told me flatly that my kind of food reaction is not an allergic reaction.I get groggy and stuporous and out of it for about four days, sometimes also irritable, back pain, wanting to stuff my face, frequent urination.I've had IgE RAST testing for antibodies to food, and it's been pretty much negative (though not skin testing, which is more sensitive).Maybe it is a kind of allergic reaction where the antibodies don't appear in my blood?I don't know.I react on skin tests to many inhalant allergens, so it would make sense if I had a lot of allergies in my gut too.
I probably have celiac disease.Celiac disease causes other food intolerances, maybe by causing mast cell overgrowth in the gut.The food intolerances may be mast cell reactions, I got that idea from a website called thefooddoc.I don't know for sure I have celiac, but I think so because of a test from Enterolab that showed I had 8-10 times normal of IgA antibodies to gluten and autoimmune TTG antibodies.
So I don't know what Brostoff would make of me.I know my kind of food reactions isn't very rare. Many people describe similar reactions - celiacs, people who have corn "allergies", etc. Yet I have never seen this kind of food reaction mentioned in mainstream medical literature. The best I can figure is that it's probably a side effect of celiac disease and maybe Brostoff is mainly writing about other kinds of food intolerance that are more common and more mild than celiac disease?
I believed him about traces not mattering for a year or two after I quit gluten - he's about the most authoritative specialist in food intolerance - and it badly held up my recovery.I kept on eating fructose made from corn ... and I was woozy-sick for months on end ... Then I quit corn and I found out I had tons of other food intolerances and I was finally able to be healthy.
It was an incredible change for me when I quit gluten and other foods I reacted to ... I felt SO MUCH better ... mentally, emotionally and physically. And tragic that I only found out about it at 43.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the food allegy Bible!
This is a fantastic book if you want to learn about food allergies, immediate and delayed. In fact, my only criticism of the book is that it might be a little too scientific for the average reader. Still, one can skip some of those sections if he or she isn't interested. The sections on creating a food elimination diet are outstanding, with extensive lists of trouble foods, related foods, and substitutes. I particularly like that the author doesn't hype the treatment of food allergies as a miracle cure for everybody's problems and doesn't pimp any specific blood tests. This is rational, unsensational advice. It's not a cookbook, though; you'll have to go elsewhere for that. I did an elimination diet after reading this and have so far found that I am allergic to milk and soy. By avoiding those allergens, I have easily lost 20 lbs (and 2 inches off my waist), I have much more energy, my mood is significantly better, my knees don't continually ache anymore, my food cravings and constant hunger are gone, and my bladder issues have resolved. In short, I feel better than I have ever felt. Although not everyone will see results like this, I think anyone with nagging health problems should give the elimination diet a try, as it can't hurt, and the only real cost is having to cook just about every meal for a few weeks, which I consider a trivial cost compared to the gains I have seen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Allergy Resource
I have finally found an easy to follow guide to eating for people with several food allergies/sensitivities.I really enjoy having this book.I pick it up just about everyday since buying it to try new recipes. GREAT COOK BOOK!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A diverse cook book.
A cookbook with diverse recipes. A good buy for a household with different allergies. I've had to tweak some recipes(for taste purposes)that is why I gave this 3 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Choice
I have truly enjoyed the meals from this cookbook. The recipes are simple, but tasty. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple allergy conscious cookbook where the recipes are not so extensive that they took a long time to cook.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Allergy free
Unfortunately for the author, she clearly does not know what "allergy free" means. This book claims to be "free of All common food allergens" on the cover, yet most of the recipes contain nuts and eggs. If you have Celiac disease, this may work for you, but if you are dealing with life threatening allergies that require you to be "Allergy free" due to the more common allergens, nuts, peanuts, eggs, wheat, etc....don't waste your money. I would be fearful to keep this in my home in case my nanny accidentally makes a recipe from it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Parts of this book may be useful for people who are new to food allergies/intolerances and need basic info on rotation diets and food families. But it is exasperating and unhelpful if you have sensitivities to many foods.

There are not many recipes here that I can use; I'm better off searching google for food ideas. Most of the "grain-free" recipes actually call for alternative grains like quinoa which, while not in the cereal grain family, can still spell trouble for some people who react to grains and other starchy foods. Buckwheat may be more closely related to rhubarb than to oats and wheat, but it causes the same kind of reaction in me.

Also, she claims that rice is the easiest grain to digest and hardly anyone reacts badly to it. This is not true. ANY food that you rely on as a staple can potentially upset your system...especially when it comes to grains, which are relatively new to the human diet. I have a mild rice intolerance, and I know I'm not alone. If, like me, you react badly to almost all grains, you will be irritated to find that there is A WHOLE CHAPTER devoted to RICE and pasta dishes.

The hefty rice section will be useless to many readers, and it really strikes me as odd that the author would spend so much time on a single food--and a cereal grain, no less--after extolling the virtues of rotary diet plans. The pasta dishes are slightly more useful; they require vegetables or alternative grains in place of wheat pasta, but almost all the sauces make use of nightshades, so us multiple allergy sufferers are still S-O-L.

There are a few good ideas in here if you don't mind sifting through pages of depressing grain-laden dishes, but the whole thing comes off as being rather naive. ... Read more

I developed a shrimp allergy when I was in my early 30s, complete with wheezing and hives. Over the next several years, I found that many foods affected me in unusual and uncomfortable ways. What was once just a faint tingle on my tongue when I ate a banana turned into a more significant reaction with many, many more foods than just bananas. I picked up a copy of Food Allergies For Dummies in hopes of finding some answers, and I got many. This book is so full of information for the newly diagnosed or someone trying to determine if food allergies might be an issue. I felt much more prepared when talking to my doctor and could ask informed questions (and understand the answers!) after reading it. Plus, the author suffers from food allergies himself, so he was able to bring first-hand experience to the book as well as plenty of stories from his medical practice -- I definitely felt he was talking *to* me and not *at* me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is or might be allergic to various foods and wants to know more about this issue and the options for treatment.

Product Description

A revised and updated version of the definitive peanut allergy book.

Since the publication of The Peanut Allergy Answer Book in May 2001, there has been much additional research published in the field of peanut allergy and anaphylaxis in medical literature. This research includes new diagnostic tests, new vaccines and therapies, and new information on the history of peanut allergy. In addition, there has also been a great increase in public awareness of the societal impact of peanut allergy, such as in schools and other child-care facilities, in restaurants, and in the food and restaurant industry. This attention has led to the publication of guidelines for schools in the management of food allergies and anaphylaxis, to legislation such as the Food Allergen Labeling Consumer Protection Act of 2006, and proposed legislation for restaurant guidelines for food-allergic consumers. The incidence of peanut allergy has doubled in the past five years and continues to increase so the impact of this medical problem, particularly in young children, is enormous.

The Peanut Allergy Answer Book, 2nd Edition,. contains 50% of new and revised material, including a new foreword and introduction, as well as new chapters such as, "Why has peanut allergy increased so much in the past 5-10 years?"; "What is the difference between being peanut-sensitive and peanut-allergic?"; "What is the Hygiene Hypothesis?"; and "Can skin contact cause an anaphylactic reaction?"

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
This book is wonderful in it's descriptions and examples of different reactions.I wish that when my daughter was first diagnosed with her nut allergies that the Dr would have recommended this book because it answered so many questions that he did not.I had searched for information on-line and had read tons but this book has it all in one place. This book is a must read for anyone who cares for a child with peanut allergies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Save Room for Dessert
While I was growing up, there was one thing I knew for certain about my grandmother: she couldn't eat anything.Or, at least, that was the way it seemed to me.She could make all kinds of delicious cobblers and pies and cakes and cookies, but I never saw her eat anything more than a bowl of bland rice pudding for dessert.I never really understood why until I got older and learned that my sweet, dessert-baking grandma was allergic to the sweet treats she dutifully made for us every time we visited.

But thanks to Elizabeth Gordon's new cookbook, //Allergy-free Desserts//, I can finally give something sweet back to Grandma.Written, in part, to help Gordon deal with her own allergies to wheat and eggs, //Allergy-free Desserts// contains over 80 scrumptious recipes to entice even those who don't puff up at the mere thought of soy, peanuts, or wheat gluten. Some of the recipes seem a bit labor-intensive and include some unusual substitutes, but they're clearly written and produce delicious results.Personally, I adored the Banana Chocolate Chip Cake and my coworkers loved the Thumbprint Gems.(And I'm sure Grandma will be pleased no matter what I make her.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful cookbook but recipes are complicated.
This is a great cookbook but just know that the recipes are complicated and time consuming and the ingredients are expensive. That said, if you want delicious allergy free deserts, this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Foods we all can eat
These recipes are delicious...though I don't care for the flavor of Garbanzo flour so substitute any gluten-free multi purpose flour (Bella or Fantastic Foods brands) if you prefer. Corn syrup can be used in place of the Lyle's Golden syrup in these recipes as Lyle's is difficult to come by. With these few, minor changes my whole family is enjoying food again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Resource
We have a grandson with severe food allergies and are always looking for targeted cook books. The first recipe prepared from this book tasted great to our grandson and to all those around him who can eat anything. We look forward to preparing more of the recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those struggling with food allergies
I bought this book as a birthday present for one of my very best friends who was recently diagnosed with several food allergies. After watching her struggle with finding things to eat, and hearing the disdain in her voice after trying other "allergy free" recipes, I learned about this book from a magazine I subscribe to. I decided to buy her the book as a gift. She LOVES it. She immediately tried the peach crisp and it was a real hit at a dinner party with other people who -don't- have food allergies! She is excited about being able to bake for others again without having the strange reaction from others without food allergies about, "What's in this, exactly?"

I've tried some of the recipes myself and I definitely recommend it. Worth the buy--plus the photographs are just delicious to look at! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We LOVE this book!
My son has a severe peanut allergy and this book is now one of his favorites! The best part is that it talks about how "special" Allie is because of her allergies. We brought this book to his school and they read it to his class as well. The teachers and students all loved it!It gave everyone a better understanding of the peanut allergy and how important it is for everyone to keep food allergy kids (specifically peanut allergy kids) safe by not bringing peanuts around them. The School's Director actually borrowed the book for other classes as well. This book is definitely a favorite in our household!!We'd highly recommend it for anyone who has a child with a peanut allergy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
I bought this book for my 2 year old. She was diagnosed with a peanut allergy when she was 17 months old. We also purchased The Peanut Pickle. Both of these books are basic enough that she understands them. I highly recommend both of these as a learning tool for young kids who have a PA. I also recommend them for their friends and family.

3-0 out of 5 stars did not like the artwork/illustration
The concept and content are helpful, but the illustration is not that appealing. The pages are very simple, no background, no layers; often it's Allie the elephant in slightly different look page by page, same white background (as in cover) so it's almost boring. Plus the lines and shapes are not that nicely done, so it's hard to tell what is what. For example Allie the Elephant with swelled lips - doesn't look vivid and is hard for young children to recognize and relate to. My son kept asking "what is this?" as he couldn't tell. He recognizes objects in his other books much better. I feel this book is not worth the price for that reason. However I guess there are not many books on this concept, so I didn't have much choice when it comes to buying a book to educate my peanut allergic son. He did seem to learn a few things from it, so I'm glad. I agree with reviewers who found the lines a little awkward to follow - like "do you want to see Allie get hives? do you want to see Allie cough? do you want to etc, etc" I feel like there's a better way to tell the story and teach the lessons than asking a bunch of rhetorical questions - children don't get that. So overall I feel this book is quite average when it comes to the story lines and illustration.

I found this book (purchased on Amazon) to be both informative and practical.I haven't tried very many recipes yet but the ones that I did were simple enough to follow and not time-consuming.Although I suffer with severe throat swelling and react to almost every food I eat these days, this book has opened a world of new foods to my palate for which I am exceedingly appreciative. One can use this book as a guideline for adapting a whole foods cookbook recipe with appropriate substitutions.I highly recommend it.As an aside, we all need to push Congress to support organic produce and meat sources which retain their vitamin and nutrient content and stop subsidizing and permitting unsafe practices such as antibiotics, hormones, pesticides, and herbicides to be used on our foods. It defeats the purpose of trying to eat healthy when we sabotage ourselves by ingesting toxic chemicals which make us seriously ill. Also, we're stripping our soil of the nutrients it used to have by over farming it which makes the food grown in it that less nutritious to the point where the food is almost just empty calories.

4-0 out of 5 stars The book
I got the book super fast and was in pretty good condition. It is a very good book with a lot of information but I am still doing research to see how accurate it all is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this cookbook
I purchased this cookbook a couple of months ago after being diagnosed as being gluten and casein intolerant and discovering on my own that I have issues with corn too. Too top it off I am also a vegetarian. Finding enough food I can eat has been a challenge. I've tried several of the recipes in this book and have liked most of them and many of them are easy to prepare. A couple of my favorites are the brocolli bisque, carrot bisque and chickpea pizza. I would definitely recommend this cookbook to anyone with food allergies/intolerances. It's been great for me!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best cookbook for the traditional items your are craving
I was very pleased with this cookbook, seeing recipes for things that I have been missing since being sensitive to numerous foods. Very comprehensive & helpful. Each basic recipe (lemon bread, etc) has several alternatives to create a different dish (like adding poppy seeds & making into muffins). The brownies were awesome & so was the pumpkin bread. The "Magical one-bowl muffins" are also great with 20 different variations for savory or sweet. Blueberry pancakes were great too!
I have a grain mill which makes these recipes very easy for me to make. I have whole grains/beans that I grind to make the flour. They have a suggestion for an all-purpose flour mix, which I make a double batch & keep in the freezer. I can whip everything up in a flash. Can you tell I'd been craving breads?
I haven't tried many other recipes yet. I also haven't read the first half of the book, which is information that I am already familiar with.
Another good book is the gluten-free vegan.
This book is HIGHLY recommended! I give it 5 stars, but the option is stuck on 4 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars should have been titled Vegan Food Allergy Survival Guide

5-0 out of 5 stars One I always recommend!
There are very few books on health that I recommend to almost everyone with unknown health issues, but this is one of them. For me it helped explain so much of what could be going wrong within the body.

Don't be fooled by the title. Many people might see it and think, "I don't have allergies" because they do not have a runny nose or itchy eyes, but there are other types of allergies or intolerances. If you generally do not feel good, but can't pinpoint it or you really feel horrible all over and are being told that nothing is wrong with you then READ THIS BOOK. Many things that we resign to 'getting older' or things that can only be treated by prescription drugs with equally yucky side-effects (like eczema) are really food allergies or intolerances in disguise. This book explains why eating dairy or gluten or whatever if you have a sensitivity to it might be making you feel bad, why it might produce different symptoms for different people and gives you an idea of what to do about it. It also gave me hope, as the author believes you can fix these issues over time and thus to do not have to abstain for the rest of your life (although, you obviously can not just go back to your old, bad habits that got you here in the first place; balance and moderation).

Read the book and if it resonates with you and your symptoms, find a Naturopath or open-minded doctor to help you through the testing etc. You just might go from feeling blah or just okay to great!

3-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed b/c of printing mistake
The book itself is very informative for me because my son suffers from allergies.I was however dissapointed because the page numbers went from 1-31, 82-101, 1-31.This must have been a printing mistake! This is the kind of book you would want to look up something in the index and then find the page number but you can't do it!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope for allergy sufferers
Allergies:Disease in Disguise has changed my life. The author has written first a clear definition of what allergy is, and then given a plan of action to over come it. In the last few years, I have suffered from a widening array of allergies and was miserable much of the time while taking allergy medication. After following the authors directions for recovery for 4 weeks, I am recovering! I would recommend this book to anyone who is willing to make some perhaps significant changes in diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars I would give it 10 stars
I read this book the same time my son (who is suffering from atopic eczema) started a therapy with a naturopath. To my amazement did she the exact same things recommended by the author. And even better I knew what she was doing, because I had read the book myself. After 6 years of frustration, seeing my son suffering from eczema, countless, sleepless nights comforting my son, we finally seeing improvement. It took 4 months of drastic diet changes and 4 visits with the naturopath and my son is almost symptom free. we never got that far.Who ever is affected by allergy - indirectly (as parent or caregiver) or directly - should read this book. It is easy to read (even for me - english is not my native language) and to understand. It changes the way of thinking, of why we are getting sick and that we are responsible ourselfs for the things we put in our mouth we often call food! Good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm glad to read such a logically well presented book.
So many people are closed minded to the possible side effects of eating cooked and processed foods.I found the book entertaining and informative, with logical, easy to understand explanations. I just wish I could dosomething to help people to learn how to improve their health. I think aperson's health is the most important part of life. What can you do whenyou're ill all of the time? This book and a few others I've read latelyinspired me to change my diet signifigantly, and whenever my instructorasks me to write a paper, I usually write about a health concern that I'minterested in. It also makes me feel good that the truth is being revealed, you just have to go in pursuit of it. ... Read more

Product Description
A whimsical tale of eight friends with food allergies. Food allergies are never fun, but best friends always are! This light-hearted story explores the daily routines of eight best buggy friends such as Beetle, Cricket and Butterfly, as they face their respective food allergies with positivity and poise.

At home and at school, at the park, or on the beach, BugaBees find ways to stay safe, have fun, and remember that the joy of friendship is far sweeter than any food they can, or in some cases, can't have.

With captivating illustrations and clever rhyming verse, this fun and fanciful tale teaches children to be happy and healthy in spite of a food allergy diagnosis.

While a child could be allergic to any food, BugaBee characters are based on the eight foods that account for 90 percent of all allergic reactions: peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, milk, soy, eggs and wheat.

The BugaBees: Friends with Food Allergies brings fresh optimism and fun to children dealing with the everyday challenges of managing a food allergy. Additional activities and talking points in the back of the book inspire further learning and teaching opportunities for young children and their caregivers. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not much science for a Dr.
I bought this book desperate to find something new, something that would work.I've tried every anti-histamine out there and have been on allergy shots on and off for 12 years with minimal impact.

The cure for allergies and asthma is a bold claim, so I assumed there would be something behind it.This book was a big disappointment. My issues:
- There is no cited science or scientific studies to back up his claims. He talks about what he's done in his practice, but no double-blind scientific studies, journal-published articles, or really evidence at all outside a few testimonials.I expected more from a MD.
- He claims that basically all allergies are caused by leaky gut and candidas.Really, my allergies go nuts in one city but not another because I have a yeast infection in my gut?
- There are some tests to diagnose these conditions, but he either doesn't use them (candidis) and just assumes everyone has the conditions, or the tests cost $1000 and aren't covered by most insurance (ALCAT).
- The diet is so amazingly complex as to be unmanageable for most people. Here's a short list things you can't eat for 3-7 months (and may or may not be able to reintroduce): Sugar, Fruit, Cheese, Salad dressing, Tomotoes, Corn, Peas, Carrots, Pototoes, Anything with Yeast, White Bread, White Rice, and Alcohol.

Yes, I read the whole book. No, I will not be trying this crazy diet from a former Atkins doctor to "cure" my allergies.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Allergy and Asthma Cure
This book has alot of good information to do with elimination diets/antibiotic use and the development of candida albicans problems that cause food allergies. It is an excellent book to read and follow if you suffer from allergies or asthma.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Works!
This book has saved my life!Since moving to Austin, Texas (allergy capital of the world)from Chicago not only have my allergies and asthma gotten extremely bad, but I've also been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, chronic sinus infections, panic disorder, agoraphobia and chronic fatigue.I have gone off of my antihistamines, Flonase, antidepressants, birth control pills and lowered my Flovent dosage by 75%!Tapering off that while I start Intal again.I can't tell you how this has saved my life! You do the program to the tee - you'll feel better in days.Within one week I felt like a million bucks! It's not easy, but to feel this good is really worth it!To top it off, I lost 8 pounds in two weeks (now 126)!Please get this book for people that are suffering.A lot of people are getting this for Christmas this year!

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed reviews, may work for some
The book is based on changing your eating habits to improve asthma. It has alot of good information on allergies, food intolerance, and asthma, as well as allergy tests. It also talks about asthma medications and their side effects, and has a chapter on nutritional supplements. The author used to work for Atkins and is his philosophies are less extreme than Atkins but he does incorperate alot of meat into his program. His basic program is to identify food sensitivities, and avoid foods that you are sensitive to, as well as things that contribute to candidiasis and leaky gut. If you aren't ready to make big changes in your diet you may be wasting your money. The diet cuts out sugar and fruit for a limited time, and he advises you to leave the sugar out. One of the issues in this book is it is really based around identifying your food intolerances. He recommends tests which will run you $400 and up. These are not often covered by insurance. I did take the test and found out my intolerances. He also states you can do an elimination diet if you can't afford the tests but it sounds very confusing and hard to implement. While he recommends most meats, much research shows that antiinflammatory diets work best with asthma, as well as vegan diets, which would contridict this method. I'm not a vegetarian but I have tried to keep my meat consumption down based on my own research and I have tried to stay on an antiinflammatory diet that is more plant based. Also, his recommendation for fish oil, while great, is contridicted in alot of lietrature as it can make symptoms worse for some asthmatics. So do your own research on fish oil and see if it gives you any problems if you do implement this part of his program.
I think his book is good in the sense that it focuses on positive diet changes and would be beneficial to someone who is eating alot of junk food and it may well help their asthma. It also is a decent reference book for allergy tests, medications, and supplements. If someone is on a healthy diet and takes good care of their health and is savy to nutrition it may not be a big help. Also not recommended for vegetarians, except that the tests may uncover food allergies if you are willing to pay for them. To some it may be worth a try, it does have some good information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, good
I previously purchased this book, used it successfully, and then lent it(much marked up) to someone (don't remember who)and now I need it again. I didn't follow the program 100%, but it did work. I was on allergy shots, and had asthma symptoms at certain times of the year depending on what was blooming. This book worked for me, and I have tried a lot of them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Batman has done it again.
If you are a fan of Dr. Batman (and heaven knows I am) you have to read this book. It is an accompaniment for his other books, "You're not sick, you're thirsty" and "your body's many cries for water". Rehashes some of the information in the other books but is necessary, just in case the reader hadn't read the other books first. If you have a family member with these problems (as I do) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give this book a chance. It could save their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite a book, and then some, contains superb information
The book is about water and SALT. Unless you incorporate the SALT along with the water, your body will not correct the problem 100%. But if you incorporate the SALT, along with the water, and avoid the dehydrating caffeine in tea, coffee, soft drinks) and chocolate, you will not believe the results unless you experience them or are close to someone who experiences the results.

The contents of this book are amazing, and the letters from MD's confirming this discovery is too revealing of the dilemna we have allowed to persist - that of "treating" and "milking the problem" without taking the corrective steps to eradicate the problem and educate the public. The fact still exists that each one of us is responsible for what we do and for what we accept as truth. Don't take anyones word for anything, try it for yourself - you be judge, jury, and prosecutor. Are you not already the victim?

This a most remarkable book, and along with Dr. Batman's earlier book, "Your Bodies Many Cries For Water", answers the questions we all ask, and for which the answers will not come from the NIH, AMA, and "support" groups for asthma and many if not all others. Dr. Batmanghelidj calls it the "Sick Care Industry". And why will the simple answer not come from these institutions?Simply because "there is no money in it" - there is no money in water and salt. But there are billions in "treating" asthma, allergies, cancer, lupus, ms, diabetes, and the list goes on.

Use your God given head, and your God given common sense.

What's the first thing given to patients when admitted in the hospital due to severe illness of any kind?

Cause it's the best thing for your sick body.

Hello?Hello?Hello? Is anyone out there? Is anyone listening? Is anyone using their God Given Common Sense?

Get this book and READ IT, and DO IT.

Then see if you don't start to look around you and begin to ask "uncomfortable" questions.

Get on the web and search for water cure, salt cure, etc.

And, by the way, if you believe what you find on snopes as if God Himself had written it, then you will have a difficult road to travel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great but dont stop here
I have developed Infectious Asthma from an Upper Respiratory Infection a couple years ago. The Water helped alot, but if anything cures it, it will be the 12 week Zithromax regimen advocated by Dr.Hahns research. Search for Infectious Asthma on the web to find the regimen. In a nutshell, I take 500mg Zithromax for 1st 3 days, then for the next 11 weeks, you take 750mg of zithromax one day per week. After the 2nd day of starting the regimen, I feel much much better and the symptoms have all but disappeared.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing much needed information
How often have we heard the advice through our lives to drink at least 8 glasses of 'water-water' (as opposed to other beverages) per day? How many of us do? I thought I was drinking enough since I always seem to have a glass in my hand as a lifelong habit, but after actually counting glasses for several days, I realised I'm coming up a little short every day.

Just that one change of conciously drinking more water and getting a little salt every day has made me feel immensely better and diminished many of the symptoms of dehydration that I never knew about before Dr. 'Batman's book came to me. A great book! It's connected so many other things together for me that I already knew about health and nutrients. Startling and yet such a simple sensible idea.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it is hard to accept but it has relieved my asthma greatly..
After a lifetime of being told that salt is bad for me, I finally let go and started to use celtic sea salt liberally (as prescribed in the book). At first I only drank the water, but adding the salt completely maximized my progress. At 4 separate times this past weekend, I stopped my own asthma attacks at each onset. It took me about 7-10 minutes each time. It took alot for me not to use my inhaler, and to just give the water & salt a chance to work.I am extremely grateful and rather emotional about it, since I thought I would be on my proventil inhaler for the rest of my life. The inhaler has caused a number of side effects, and I am now planning a detox to remove the residue of this drug from my body, which I've been dependent on for more than 27 years. And I've only been doing this seriously for 2 weeks, (and getting better with each day). I thank "Dr.B" for giving me my health back (along with hundreds of others whose testimonials I've read on the www.watercure2.com site). These are the same testimonials I was so compelled to read again and again, because I just could not believe and accept that something so simple could cure this disease that left me so weak and scared about the future of my health. Not to mention, very likely preventing other diseases I would be on the road towards. I suppose this is my own testimonial, because it really happened, and I hope that readers searching for an answer will forget their fears (that it won't work) and try it. Yes, it is still hard even for me to believe...even though it continues to work for me. But I do know for sure that I will never stop Dr.B's water & salt prescription. I will say this - if you want your health back, just take it back by taking action. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good starting point
I think this book is a GREAT starting point.I personally DO NOT agree with the previous reviewer on the elimination diet being the gold standard. We have 2 children with multiple food allergies and the elimination diet HAS NOT worked for us due to the number of foods we are dealing with. I think this book is good because it talks about several types of reactions and several types of testing.MOST doctors only recognize IGE blood testing BUT you need more than that and this book explains it fairly well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent starting point
This book is a decent starting point for one who wants to know the basics about delayed food allergies. It's a very quick read with good lists of common allergens and some scientific background on the condition. What I don't like is that the author continuously pushes some controversial blood tests instead of the elimination diet, which is the gold standard (and an inexpensive one at that) for uncovering food allergies. Also, the book isn't very professional looking. It appears to be something that the authors self-published. If you really want to know about food allergies, "Food Allergies and Food Intolerance" is a better option. It covers the subject much more extensively and describes how to do an elimination diet.

I went on an elimination diet after reading this and have so far found that I am allergic to milk, corn, and soy. By avoiding those allergens, I have easily lost 20 lbs (and 2 inches off my waist), I have much more energy, my mood is significantly better, my knees don't continually ache anymore, my food cravings and constant hunger are gone, and my bladder irritation has resolved. In short, I feel better than I have ever felt. Although not everyone will see results like this, I think anyone with nagging chronic health problems should give the elimination diet a try, as it can't hurt, and the only real cost is having to cook just about every meal for a few weeks, which I consider a trivial cost compared to the gains I have seen. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally thorough, very informative, absolutely helpful!
This is a valuable cookbook for me, as I have had to alter my diet completely to eliminate milk products as a result of my nursing son's milk allergies. However, I was delighted to discover that it is much more than a cookbook!

The first several chapters address dairy and dairy-free from a health perspective, explaining things like the make-up of cow's milk and other commercially available mammal milks; what lactose-free, A2, and acidophilus milks and kefir are; what is pasteurization and homogenization; milk's effects on various health issues such as lactose intolerance, ADHD, autism, and weight loss; good sources of calcium; and infant and childhood milk allergies.Everything is well-researched well-explained.

There are chapters on how to be dairy-free when eating away from home, on the road, back to school, and eating with friends and family, as well as how to go grocery shopping and what to stock up on, including helpful sample grocery lists and what ingredients on food labels are milk-derived.There are very specific lists of all kinds of "okay" foods, along with information on how to contact the companies that make them.

There is invaluable information on good dairy substitutes (some that you can purchase pre-made from a store, others that you can make following a recipe) and lots of just good recipes and meal ideas.

At the end, there are a couple chapters on other good resources for being dairy-free!

I love this book! The only thing that would make it better would be pictures. There are no pictures in this book, which I think would be helpful for the recipes. However, there are libraries of information contained in this book, and all the suggested recipes and foods have been tested by personal experience by the author and everything is very good!I haven't found a recipe yet that I didn't like!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dairy Replacements!
This book, Go Dairy Free, is all about making your own dairy replacements. For instance you can make sweetened condensed milk by using coconut milk. There is really a lot to be said about this book as it is like a teaching book for people with milk alergies and lactose intolerance. It teaches you how to shop, stock, and cook lactose free. It teaches you all about why your body rejects dairy and the symptoms of lactose intolerance. This book is a great help in learning to live without dairy and includes many helpful recipes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Delivery and Book
Item was shipped and arrived quicker than expected. The book was extremely useful full of facts and information about having a milk allergy and great cooking ideas and suggestions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and Very Encouraging
I found Go Dairy Free to not only be extremely helpful in describing what dairy-free living is all about; but it was very encouraging as well. It's tough to change your life and eating habits when you discover that you are allergic to milk; and the author sympathsizes with you. However, she doesn't just join in a food pity-party. In an upbeat and positive way, the author explains the dos and don'ts of dairy-free living and brings the concept to reality. I love, love, love the helpful lists and advice she gives about milk substitues and how she has developed recipes for things like cream of mushroom soup and condensed milk to replace those ingredients in our favorite family recipes. There are tons of other delicious recipes too! Overall, I rated this book 5 stars because it is the only one I've found for dairy-free living that is easy to read/understand and gives me hope that it is possible to live dairy-free and enjoy life to the fullest. Dairy-free living isn't scary when you have this book as a reference guide!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Dairy-Free Resouce Out There!
This is the most comprehensive resource available for anyone wanting or needing to eat dairy-free or for anyone just wanting to cook for someone they love that can't eat dairy.

Author Alisa Flemming takes a very conservative, level headed approach and shares research based information that you can trust. She also provides a wealth of the very best dairy free on-line resources that you can uses *for free* on a daily basis.

The subtitle indicates that this is a guidebook & cookbook - both of which are correct. The guidebook portion acts as a 'tour guide' if you will, walking the reader through the different issues people experience with dairy and provides reasonable, affordable solutions. The cookbook includes everything from appetizers to desserts with a wealth of recipes that are perfect for every day.

I refer to this book on a regular basis for information, alternatives, and recipes.I know that anyone who purchases it will feel the same.
