Product Description
Asthma and allergies are at epidemic proportions. It doesn't have to be that way.Two experienced pediatric allergists tell everything a conscientious parent needs to know about these conditions, the best in approved treatments, behavioral changes that can help control them, what families can do to reduce the toll that even severe asthma and allergies take on their lives, the myths and realities of alternative treatments and food allergies, skin allergies, advice for support groups, lists, checklists, and much, much more.

Fun and entertaining, almost every page is enlivened by anecdotes from the authors' decades of practice showing the special rapport that have made them so successful in getting results and keeping patients out of emergency rooms.

They make common cause with overworked pediatricians, general practitioners, and other primary care physicians who, because of the way our health care system is organized, are doing more asthma and allergy treatment than ever before.

But wait! There's still more! Asthma Allergies Children, the book, is half of a new approach to providing specialty asthma and allergy care.It is being published simultaneously with the launch of AsthmaAllergiesChildren.com, the new town square where parents and primary care physicians can pick the brains of specialists about their own children or patients. The website has mailbags for parents and doctors, pollen counts, news coverage, review of the latest developments in allergy science, "Tip of the Week" for controlling disease and discomfort, and guest editorials by the most important thinkers in the field.

The authors say that they and their colleagues recognize must do more to leverage their knowledge. The ranks of Allergy specialists are dwindling even as the numbers of asthmatic and allergic patients are rising. The cost is immense.Asthma is the single largest cause of school and work absence.Allergic and asthmatic children lose out on all the things that childhood is supposed to be about.

The book is the mother ship of the Asthma Allergies Children enterprise.Read about the connection between your child's nose and lungs, and how stopping allergy symptoms in the nose can reduce the danger of life-threatening asthma attacks; The hazards from chronic inflammation even when there are no visible symptoms; The damage to a child's body from over-reliance on "rescue" medication, and inadequate "control"; How modern technology can tell you if your child has been "naughty or nice"; The use and misuse of allergy testing, and how false positives can result in malnutrition in small children; The strengths and weaknesses of immunotherapy; The stages of an allergic life; and the most sympathetic and wisest advice ever to worried parents about managing a home where a child has severe allergies.

And because every child is special, go to the website to ask that special question.

Asthma Allergies Children: A Parent's Guide and AsthmaAllergiesChildren.com-a winning combination for helping your child lead a happier, healthier life.

A veritable bible for parents of allergic kids.I enjoyed Asthma Allergies Children tremendously. It is full of the kind of great stories that teach both patients and doctors more than mere facts. The science is explained in language you don't need an MD to follow. This book should be kept right next to the antihistamines and epinephrine, and used even more frequently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important and thoughtful
Anyperson suffering with asthma (um, that would be me) or dealing with someone with asthma in the family, really needs this book.Asthma is at epidemic proportions and this book concisely and thoroughly tells you everything you need to know, and more--including cutting edge treatments and therapies.Even better, it's hooked up with a website. I've had asthma since I was five, and though I might think I am a smarty pants who knows all the answers, this book taught me many new things.I personally feel that illness has its own narrative, and the stories in this book can teach you in ways that drier information simply can't. This is an essential purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading for Parents
Recently, we found that our daughter suffers from a severe nut-allergy. Looking at the available literature, we turned to `Asthma Allergies Children' because it seemed to strike a nice balance between three things we felt we needed. First, it provides enough of the scientific and medical background to be genuinely informative without swamping you with needless detail (we had a working knowledge of allergies before, but actually learned a lot from the book). Second, it is quite readable and provides striking real-life anecdotes to underscore theoretical points (nothing puts you in the requisite frame of mind so much as hearing what an anaphylactic shock feels like from the perspective of a child experiencing it). Third, the book is full of useful practical advice for parents of a child with asthma or allergies (get yourself a really nice vacuum cleaner and use it--daily if you can!). What we couldn't have known in advance is the wit and, more importantly, the utter humanity that shines through on every page of the book. It is written not only by professionals in the field but by parents and grandparents with a true understanding of the human cost of asthma and allergies. The book has become a constant reference point for our own evolving understanding of our daughter's affliction. We couldn't recommend it more. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a good first impression
What I like about this book is that the ingredients are easy to find, the recipes are not complicated, lots of photos, brief comments about the cookies on some recipes, great tips, and allergy information.

So, today I came across the "Pumpkin Pick-Ups" recipe. The photo looks like a thin, crusty type pumpkin cookie. Now I can hold my own when it comes to sugary sweets, but this was WAAAY too sweet! I threw it out. The consistency was more like pie and not one of the crusty looking pumpkin cookie slice (p. 201). I used un-sweetened rice milk, which is still naturally quite sweet. So adding sugar to that, was yucky sweet. This basically crustless pumpkin pie had just as much sugar as a real pumpkin pie. I did follow the recipe exactly, minus the flax meal. Maybe that was the differnce in texture.

Over-all, that was not a good first impression of the book, but I am willing to try a few more recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lot of allergy friendly options
This book has a lot of allergy friendly recipes. As with any allergy friendly recipes, they are not all great, but it is nice to have a selection.

5-0 out of 5 stars pretty awesome
this book is very easy to follow and everything i have made so far has turned out awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air!
After making the "Mini-ficent Pancakes" for breakfast this morning, and having my non-allergic husband come in and say, "Which ones are mine?" I was reminded that I had to come and write a review for this book. The pancakes look so appealing, you could not tell the difference between the allergen-free ones and the just add water ones I was also making for the rest of the family.
I have two children with multiple, severe, food allergies, among them wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, and corn, which any allergy mom knows, excludes seemingly all baking ingredients, and many of their usual substitutes.Prior efforts at pancakes and other desserts were so complex (unknown and hard to find long lists of ingredients), time-consuming, and ugly/poor tasting, that it had been a while since I even attempted making any treats for my two "bubble babies" :)
In contrast, this book has simple (few ingredients), easy-to-follow, and tasty recipes that allow you for onces to feel adequate in feeding your kids something they are begging for and able to enjoy. My kids got to see what it was like for their non-allergic sister to be asking for their food/treats, instead of the other way around. At Thanksgiving, they could have sugar cookies (that they helped decorate) and pumpkin pie, rather than having no dessert at all.
If you know the frustration of trying to cook for people with allergies, this book will be a breath of fresh air and renew your hope and energy in trying to make life and food a little more "normal".

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoy Life's Cookies for Everyone!: 150 Delicious Gluten-Free Treats that are Safe for Most Anyone with Food Allergies, Intolera
Absolutely LOVE this! Having multiple allergies to very common ingredients this gives me something "normal" to make & enjoy! Thank you Enjoy Life! ... Read more

Product Description
For nearly two million years, humans and our hominid ancestors were eating in the hunter/gatherer style of foraging for a wide variety of healthy fruits and vegetables and then hunting and scavenging for large game. However, about 9,000 years ago, humans started eating in a manner contrary to their design, while living increasingly sedentary lives. In The Evolution Diet: All-Natural and Allergy Free, Joseph SB Morse shows how we can achieve ultimate health by emulating our ancestors' hunter/gatherer lifestyle. You're about to embark on an insightful, and often humorous journey to discover how humans evolved to eat, what cultureless humans would eat, and how we can use that knowledge with today's technology and wealth to develop the ideal diet. Included in this edition is a detailed section on the most common food allergies and intolerances: dairy, egg, peanut, seafood, shellfish, soy, tree nut, and wheat (including celiac). The benefits of The Evolution Diet are immediate and include attaining an ideal weight, achieving balanced energy throughout the day, better sleep, and alleviation of symptoms from food intolerances and allergies. If you've been asking yourself what and how we were designed to eat, Morse's The Evolution Diet is the answer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love this diet
I work with people to maximize their diets and I've worked with 100's of different eating plans, from Atkins to the Zone. I have to say, this is better than anything else on the market. This third edition includes great information about food intoleraces and allergies and provides a wealth of food options that fit within the "All-Natural and Allergy Free" life. The other content is there too, but if you have celiac, egg or nut allergies, dairy intolerances, this is the book for you. Some of my clients have said that it's a lifesaver.

5-0 out of 5 stars A doctor a day keeps the apples away
Being a doctor, I'm inundated with requests from pharmaceutical companies to promote this or give away that and I constantly am influenced to keep the patients coming back (especially if they have a good insurance program). But I know that we don't have a health care system, we have a sick care system that aims at keeping people sick and thus dependent on the medical profession. It's a bittersweet emotion for me as a doctor that benefits from the system and also someone who has hypochondriac relatives.

That's why it's refreshing to read a perspective that opposes my "doctor a day keeps the apples away," mentality. Morse's Evolution Diet makes it clear how to live a natural and allergy-free life and keep the DOCTORS away. It's not easy for a lot of people-those on the inject McDonalds in mouth then take pill to alleviate symptoms from too much junk food diet--but it's worth it. Once you get on the natural diet (the way you were designed to eat), you will feel so good, you won't want to give it up even for something that used to taste good like French Fries.

The latests edition here is chalk full of useful and entertaining info. I will recommend it to all of my patients as an alternative to the ubiquitous pharmaceutical. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Recipes the Whole Family Can Enjoy!
I have had this cookbook for over 2 years now, and my sister and I have used many of the recipes when cooking things my son can enjoy along with the rest of us.He is severely allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, milk, and eggs. The book has sections for suggestions on safe substitutes and suggestions about different uses for many allergen-free products.Occasionally we add a little more sugar or spice, to suit our tastes, but the recipes always turn out great, and anyone would enjoy eating them. The book reads like you are talking to a supportive friend, full of tips and hints about shopping and cooking for someone with allergies from Theresa's experiences over the years. I look forward to purchasing her next edition!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok but not as good for our family as some others
This is a decent book but for the style of cooking my family does I found a few that I liked a little better. Some of the recipes were certainly not "Kid Pleasing," but they weren't horrible either. If someone were giving it out for free I'd say take it, but I'm not sure it was worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Cooking Bible--I love it!
I have a 3 year old son with allergies to milk, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts as well as a 5 year old daughter with no allergies. Both are picky eaters! This book has great recipes that are pleasing to everyone. It's also very simple. It saves me from having to prepare 3 different meals. Some of our family favorite side dishes are brown sugar carrots, and creamy noodles. It also offers menus for "tired" parents, so you can throw something together at the last minute, without having to think about it. Just my speed :-)

3-0 out of 5 stars Not thrilled.
The recipes aren't as kid friendly as described and some of the measurements in baking were off. However, it did have some great advice and tips for tackling the allergies.

4-0 out of 5 stars So Far, So Good
We recently began using Theresa Kingma's cookbook for our 14 month old son who has egg and milk allergies. It has been so nice to have something that makes all the substitutions for you so you don't have to really think about how to make a meal work. Some of the dishes seemed like they would be better suited to older children, but so far Thomas has liked everything we've made from Theresa's cookbook. Thanks for making navigating a food allergy easier! And for creating recipes that Mom and Dad like too. Some favorites include Chicken Paprikash Potatoes and the yummy yummy yummy corn bread! ... ALLERGYSELFHELPBOOK Outstanding.A book that was way ahead of it's time (progressive and ahead of the masses) when it was written. It is accurate helping you understand the many day to day products that can be making you allergic.HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHIS! A must read for anyone with allergies or stuffed up nose all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Allergy Self Help Book
This is a great book! It simplifies allergies so that the layperson can start doing something about allergy problems. Just the list of allergy symptoms helps educate patients about how they are being influenced by their allergies. I suggest that all of my TMJ and Orthodontic patients purchase the Allergy Self Help Book.
The book shows non invasive common sense methods for controling allergy problems. Unfortunately, many physicians and dentists are not aware of the severe effects allergies can have on their patients so patients have to educate themselves fully.
It is especially important that parents protect their children from the harmful effects of allergies such as decreased nasal breathing and neck problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING
This cookbook is outstanding..easy to follow, yummy meals and so helpful!!! I wish they had another one out!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks nice.
I had good hopes for this book, it was the first allergy cook book that I've bought. None of the recipes I've tried have worked too well. And of course there are very expensive ingredients. It does have a handy section of substitutions and flour blends, lots of good information too. But overall I haven't used this book much.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.
I bought this book as a gift for my sister who's child has MAJOR allergies and she seems to just love it- I was a little disappointed with what it said for substitutions though- it was all stuff she already knew! But she still likes it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful!
This book suggests how to successfully substitute products according to your specific allergies. The recipes in the book are easy and delicious, but the information in the book on what to substitute when really opens the doors to making your old favorite recipes allergy free. This book really covered it all for me.I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic help in and out of the kitchen
Recipes, like any good book or cd, should be passed on to friends. Well, every dish I've made so far from this book I have had to share! The recipes are fantastic (the banana honey cake is ridiculously good) and very simple to follow according to the specific allergy. The book begins with helpful advice on the basic lifestyle changes needed to cope with food allergies -from cooking at home, to dining out, traveling and visiting friends. Substitute ingredients are clearly explained and I have learned a great deal in such a short time. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone with any interest in cooking. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God didn't make you allergic to anything
Colbert again shows us how to live a healthier lifestyle and take care of our temple. He goes further into emotional reasons why our immune systems get hammered in ""Deadly Emotions".See also "A More Excellent Way" by Henry Wright, a ministry where many people with allergies learn how to get healed.Much better than NAET!

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding
This helpful book is full of God's wisdom!God has used Dr. Colbert as a vessel to convey truth to me and my family regarding walking in Divine health! This book does not delve into "new age" teachings, as others have accused.Obviously, they have no spiritual discernment. This is VERY sound, VERY Biblical advice!

3-0 out of 5 stars helpful book!
I liked this book by Dr. Colbert and just ordered one from amazon.com for my father who is suffering from allergies to dust mites and chemicals in food.I think the first review that had one star had a most hateful attitude.Dr. Colbert really loves the Lord and it shows in his books. He desires for people to be healthy and whole and so does the Lord.He is our Father and wants his children to be well. What father doesn't?Conventional allergy treatments such as desensitization shots are helpful but sometimes people need more.My daughter had 5 years of allergy shots and still suffers from allergies. We shy away from drugs because drugs cause side effects and they cause you to lose nutrients as they are detoxified by the body. currently our daughter is on a homeopathic treatment prescribed by her naturopathic doctor and it is helping.Dr. Colbert is not I repeat not into New Age type of thinking and remedies. This person the first review insulted Dr. Colbert's integrity and my opinion of this person is that they are mean spirited and judgemental!

1-0 out of 5 stars Pseudoscientific claptrap
The Bible Cure for Allergies is nothing but pseudoscientific claptrap designed to convince the gullible that ancient peoples were somehow healthier than we are. (Most ancients lived short, pain-filled lives, but you won't read that here.) Far from being Biblical, this book would insult many conservative Christians with its constant references to New Age healing powers and the like.

Reputable allergy treatments do not contravene the teachings of the Bible. There is therefore no reason for anyone, no matter how devout or religious, to resort to the unproven, ineffective, expensive remedies this book recommends. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Book has no advice on prevention
Once you have the dreaded peanut allergy, this book is pretty good. But wouldn't you rather not get it in the first place? Why is it the cause is unknown? Is our science that clueless?

Food allergies have become a major problem especially among children. Unless you work with children, you may not be aware of the extent of the problem. In the last 5 years there has been an "epidemic" of food allergies among children. It started at the same time the recommended number of vaccinations was substantially increased. It could be a coincidence or not. Vaccines are not regulated the same as food. Manufacturers can have "secret ingredients" not revealed on the package insert. This is protected by trade law. If you enjoy reading patents, you can find out many of the various ingredients used in the culture media and adjuvants. Many, many foods are listed. Peanut oil, sesame oil, wheat germ oil, soy oil, corn oil, walnut oil, almond oil are among the ingredients listed. A small amount of protein from these foods cannot be eliminated from the vaccine. It could be causing the food allergy epidemic. At the very least, physicians cannot advise their allergic patients very wisely if they don't know what is in the vaccine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful overview of handling peanut allergy
This book thoroughly covers all the basics of peanut allergy. It would be an excellent guide for someone new to the allergy.I have read other books and websites and I have been dealing with my child's severe peanut allergy for years, and I still learned a lot from it.It would also be a good resource for schools.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative book
This is a very comprehensive book on peanut allergies. It is written for children, teens and adults who have peanut allergies. I was made aware of things I had not even thought about before.I also became more relaxed as I learned how to handle allergic reactions such as these. I highly recommend this book if you have a person who has peanut allergies in your home or not. This is an allergy that is becoming more prevalent and we should all be aware of how to protect and help those of all ages that have this allergy. If you yourself have this allergy it will provide much needed enlightenment as to what all the tests are for, what to be careful of, and what to do should you ingest peanut.

Since she was a young child, Ellen Cutler suffered from constipation, bloating, irritability, cravings, and fatigue from food allergies. Shelater studied chiropractic with an emphasis on nutrition. Through studyinga number of alternative therapies, she developed BioSET--a protocol totreat food allergies and conditions that may be caused by food allergies, such as asthma, headaches, ADHD, and many other disorders.

Cutler's theories, conclusions, and treatments may elicit raised eyebrowsfrom M.D. allergy specialists, although they are commonly used by naturopaths. She diagnoses allergies by means of muscle testing: the patient holds aglass vial of the allergen in one hand while the health professionalpresses down on the other arm, with weakness indicating allergy. Part ofher process uses acupressure to stimulate points on the spine to activateenergy blocks and reprogram the brain to stop identifying the substance asan allergen. Her treatment includes enzyme therapy.

Much of The Food Allergy Cure is a discussion of allergies, theirsymptoms (which can be just about any ailment, complaint, or condition),causes, and food triggers, with plentiful case studies of Cutler's successwith patients. There is very little actual self-help information here.Usually Cutler discusses a condition and its roots in food allergies, andthen describes how successful she is in treating patients with thiscondition using her BioSET system. The only at-home treatments described inthe book are muscle testing, acupressure technique, an introduction todetoxifying activities, and a number of dietary suggestions and recipes.Other than that, she advises you to consult a BioSET practitioner (you'redirected to the author's Web site for a referral list) and/or order theproducts she promotes. --Joan Price ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You have to read this book!
If you are a sufferer of any chronic condition, it is well worth checking out what this book and Dr. Cutler's other books such as Micromiracles have to offer. I'd highly recommend Dr. Cutler's books, and her BioSET technique, to anyone who is looking for a simple, safe, and effective treatment for food sensitivities and other allergies. As someone who has experienced and witnessed the results of this kind of treatment, and as a doctor who has listened to Dr. Cutler speak about it, I can say that she is a truly amazing woman who is just plain dedicated to helping people. She has both a Chiropractic and Medical Doctor's education, has done tons of research into the fields of nutrition, allergies, and chronic disease, and knows what she's talking about.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete and Total Garbage.
This book should double as an IQ test, because anyone with some basic critical thinking should be able to sauce through such amazingly obvious rhetorical chicanery. Here's the 'secret' of the book in a nutshell:

- The population experiences 'common' maladies like headaches, asthma, fatigue, depression, etc. ad infinitum. (IX, introduction)

- Around 90% of these 'common' maladies come from undiagnosed food 'allergies'. (Page 31)

- Every symptom that cannot be connected to a specific disease, from runny noses to depression to death, is based in food 'allergies'. (page 7)

- These 'allergies' aren't recognized as real allergies by immunologists and allergists because they only recognize 'authentic' allergies that result in immunoglobulin type E reactions, which produce histamines (among other things) and typical symptoms (watery eyes, runny nose, vomiting, throat constriction, etc.) (Pages 22-23)

-Cutler changes the definition of 'allergy' so that it is so wide, anything can fit."In this book, I will take a wider view of an allergy, as any negative or abnormal response in the immune system." (page 24)So, anything that causes ANY response in the immune system that is 'abnormal' (makes you feel poorly) is an 'allergy' (though if you read on, this need not be the case as 'allergic' responses can be immediate, delayed, hidden or only manifesting when stimulated by heat, cold, darkness or light. You may be reacting and not even know it!YIKES!)(Page 27)

- These food 'allergies' can discovered by applying George Goodheart's manual muscle test, where the tester pushes down on the arm of the testee while the testee attempts to resist, while holding the test substance (like white flour, or basically anything). If the testee's resistance is strong, they're not allergic to whatever is in the hand.If their resistance is weak, they are allergic. (page 9, chapters 6 and 7)

- Any 'typical' allergies, especially anything involving anaphylaxis, cannot be cured by Cutler's cure...though it is guaranteed to work on anything that SHE defines as an allergic reaction.

"An anaphylactic allergy is beyond the scope of this book and any home clearing, so seek out a professional if you experience that response." (Page 70)

Amazingly, if one cooks food, it's bad (page 3)

If one doesn't chew food enough, it's bad (page 3-4)

- People are likely allergic to any food that has undergone ANY genetic manipulation (page 38-39), contains additives or preservatives (pages 40-41) or been exposed to pesticides (pages 42-43).

- In a stroke of genius, Cutler recommends that people get tested for any of the MILLIONS of things that they might be allergic to.The list goes from pages 45 to 76 and includes calcium, any number of vitamins, iron, magnesium, zinc, sugar, sodium, any "chemicals found in foods" (Page 61. How general can you get?), amino acids, enzymes, meat, dairy, soy, grain, fruits, vegetables, water, etc.

Her recommended treatments, apart from buying her book?

- Try chewing your food at least 30 times (page 4), fasting (page 185), a different diet (page 187), exercise (page 192), Massage (page 195), drinking lots of water (unless you're allergic to it...page 198), changing your breathing (page 198.No kidding.),dry skin brushing (page 199), taking baths (page 200), taking coffee enemas (page 202.Mr. Kellogg's influence still is around a 100+ years later!), getting counseling or psychotherapy (page 207), living far away from high voltage wires (page 207), staying away from electromagnetic fields (page 207), etc.

And, of course, buying some of the wonderful products that she recommends.

So, in a nutshell, here's the books message:

Almost ANYTHING in the world, including water and any form of protein, can cause an allergic reaction.Using a simple form of divination (manual muscle testing is a straight up divination tool), you can talk directly with your atman (inner life force) and allow it to tell your mind, via the body, what is wrong with you and what your body needs. Then, try ANYTHING different in your life until something works and remember that the credit goes to Dr. Ellen Cutler and her BioSET methodology, not the actual life changes you make.

This book is a cacophony of misunderstood terminology, corrupted eastern mysticism, mind-numbingly bad logic and medical quackery that barely attempts to conceal itself.(On page 7, on a list of symptoms that indicate an 'energy imbalance', she includes death. She insinuates, though does not directly say, that she can 'cure' death.)Like most books I've ever read that promote alternative medicine, this book portrays 'established medicine' as an evil corporate entity that basically is aware of the answers but hides them from people, instead profiteering from sickness and hiding the secrets to life, perfect health and immortality.

I don't know about you, but if I was an evil medical doctor and had the 'cure' for all disease, I'd sell it on monthly installments!I'd NEVER write a book and simply sell the 'cure' for a piddly $10.85 on Amazon.

As far as useful information on health, allergies, etc.,this book ranks behind "Plain Facts for Old and Young", written in 1881 by John Harvey Kellogg...No kidding.

Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!
There is a section in the middle of the book that begins at the bottom of page 172. Now it may be different with others, but I've found that after you put the allergin in the vial and test positive, I only need to follow either the first allergy elimination procedure on the following page. or if I don't have anyone to help me, the second procedure! Multiple cycles or repeats neccesary depending on the severity of the allergy, but just these simple procedures produce immense results! So at least try the procedure even if the other stuff to do with blood and organs and devices seems too daunting (or costly!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book if you have food allergies!
One of Dr. Cutler's better books in that it helps people understand that their health problems most likely are food allergy related and there IS something that can be done about it besides avoidance. It offers hope to those people who have suffered for so long.

1-0 out of 5 stars Skip this book and go to the source...
Dr. Cutler barely mentions the acupuncurist from whom she learned her methods, but it was probably Dr. Devi Nambudripad or someone trained by her. So skip the copier and get your information from the woman who discovered a way to truly eliminate all allergies, not just food sensitivities. Her book, Say Goodbye To Illness, is packed full of testimonials, some which include phone numbers and email addresses, which are truly miraculous. She also has a research foundation which has verified the effectiveness of her method, which is called NAET. Nambudripad's materials are much more comprehensive, and there are a lot more NAET practitioners around the country than there are BioSet practitioners. Dr. Cutler does talk more about diet and enzymes than NAET does, but it is also old info you could get in any natural healing book. I am disappointed I wasted my time on this book and will stick withNAET. ... Read more

Product Description

It's a world we barely see, but it is teeming with life. In the dust of a typical house, carpet beetles, mites, silverfish, and other creatures live and die, producing new generations every few months. Mold, bacteria, and yeast lurk undetected in heating and cooling systems. Debris dispersed into the air from these organisms can cause runny noses, itchy eyes, coughing, headaches, and breathing difficulties. Some people, especially those made highly sensitive by allergies, suffer from devastating health problems and the worry that, as one such sufferer lamented, "My house is killing me!"

Scrutinizing house dust and air samples with a microscope, indoor air quality expert Jeffrey C. May has spent his career helping people identify what's causing their chronic health problems. In My House Is Killing Me! he draws on the dramatic personal stories of his clients' suffering and relief to help readers understand the links between environmental factors and problems like allergies and asthma. Explaining how air conditioning, finished basements, and other home features affect air quality, he offers a step-by-step approach to identifying, controlling, and often eliminating the sources of indoor pollutants and allergens. If we could see this contamination, May observes, the air would look as murky as stagnant water, and we would know not to breathe it.

Reading My House Is Killing Me! lets you see your house the way an expert would. Just as he looks at spaces and systems during an indoor air quality investigation, May focuses first on the areas of daily life (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen), then looks into attics and basements (including heating and air conditioning), and finally moves outside to the garage and the exterior of a home. Along with offering a wealth of practical advice and proven solutions for various problems, he includes a glossary of terms and a list of valuable resources.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful advice and usable reference
The funny thing about the book is that the title sounds very alarmist. And while it does tell a few horror stories, most of the book is about providing information. It is far less sensationalistic than the title implies. I read it first as an education about air quality. Then we used it to recommend solutions in an air quality crisis. Now I use it mainly as a reference guide when I have a question and can't remember something.

I originally purchased this book a few years ago when I was having problems with allergies and found problems with the HVAC system in our home. Thanks to implementing key parts of his advice, our air quality significantly improved as evidenced by our health issues subsiding. We were spending time at doctors offices weekly or every other week. After we fixed some of the problems in our house (using the book's advice), we found ourselves rarely at the doctor (a few times per year). No more ear tubes for the kids either (we had gone through 4 sets already).

I have lent this book and recommended this book to friends. We recently moved and find ourselves needing to make minor changes to improve the air quality in our new (yet older) home. This book is a great reference----I break it out and remind myself what things to consider and where problems can occur (as well as ways to solve the problems).

As an added bonus, it helps to be better educated about air quality when dealing with HVAC, insulation, and other service professionals----you can select the companies more effectively, and make decisions more easily. How often can one book help out in all those ways?Great book.Worthwhile purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas for Reducing Household Allergens and Chemicals
May's book offers helpful tips to reduce exposure to allergens and chemicals throughout your home. He reminds you to check places that are often overlooked, such as the drain pan under the refrigerator, the drain pan for your A/C unit, and duct work. Something as simple as your old couch might be the trigger for many symptoms. This book is a good start for someone who wants to try anything they can to reduce their chemical and allergen load.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book - a must have to buy an older house!
I bought this book a couple of years ago when I started my house hunting. It has helped me tremendously - especially it opened my eyes to most of the typical problems that older houses have in the area I am living in. As a result, I avoided many problematic houses/deals. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to buy a house in New England area!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Refrence
This book has been used as a refrence guide once we found we had mold in the house. When we called up several companies to get quotes we knew what to ask, which equipment they should use, how they should go about cleaning etc.

It helped us make a better choice, make sure we weren't wasting our money and get informed about the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read if you have allergies
This book has certainly opened our eyes as to what allergens can exist that one would never dream were in their home. It is so totally awesome and explicit with explainations. It's a must read for anybody who has known allergies or even suspects possible allergies. It will surprise you what can be causing your health issues. The culprit may be allergens in your home, in your yard, in your vehicle. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Comprehensive
This doctor confirmed what I've heard here and there over the years from other doctors and from my own research. Although some of the suggestions are extreme for those with more moderate allergy-related problems, most are fully do-able and helpful. The link he draws between digestive issues and allergies is the most comprehensive I've come across. Very easy to read and understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for sinus sufferers
This book opened my eyes to a whole new world of information. Most important to me was the sinus washing ,it opens up your sinuses like when you were a baby.Sinus washing should be part of ones daily hygeine. I truly beleive that if I knew about washing 15 years ago I wouldn't have has surgury twice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tremendous Help for your Sinuses!
As a long-time sufferer of chronic sinusitis (7 years), I've spent the last three years in and out of doctors and specialists trying to rectify the situation. There's a saying that to defeat your enemy, you must know them which is why I picked up Dr. Josephson's book. It's truly a relief as he describes a lot of the insidious aches, pains and embarrasments a sinus-sufferer goes through, makes you feel as if you're not alone. The book not only provides empathy and support but a tremendous amount of physiological information for you to understand your illness. The quiz and treatment plan then gives you several ways and a multitude of treatments to manage the issue given sinus problems are often life-long.

While I only got a lot of value from about half the book, it was only because of the serious amount of research and doctors I've been through over the last three years. For newly discovered sinus sufferers, this book may be eye-opening and a true life-saver that will short-cut you to the necessary treatment plan more quickly. The wealth of information, while a bit slow at times, is really necessary for the patient to work with your primary care physician or specialist to alleviate the situation. And that's probably one of the best points made by Dr. Josephson.Without a informed and knowledgeable patient, even the best doctor's will have some challenges making the correct diagnosis. If you have sinus issues, buy this book to give you and your MD the best chances at bringing you back to full health and happiness!Best of luck to you all...

5-0 out of 5 stars good
Book goes over the myriad causes of sinuse congestion.Best book I have found on the subject.Maybe it is a little confusing about what to do with all the information provided, but It was useful in talking with my doctor.I would recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Long on Anatomy, short on What do to
This book was recomended by Seth Godin, the marketing guru, and I love his work so I bought it. I could not get through the whole thing because the first 70 pages goes into immense detail about the anatomy of the sinuses to the point where no one would care and most of the rest of the chaptersdid not apply to me (e.g. special cases, morbidly obese, etc.) There is some helpful information about irrigating your sinuses, which I am now doing, but the book could have been 200 pages shorter and I would have gotten just as much out of it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Alternative Approach to what's bothering you!
Decades ago, the medical community decided that allergens would only be defined as such if they provoked an immune system reaction (rash, swelling, throat closing up!). But there was a lot of research showing that many foods cause symptoms in people that mimic the addiction cycle (an "excitement" to the system when first taken, a "struggling" of the body to adjust while building tolerance and, thereby, causing stress to the whole system, and then "withdrawal symptoms" when the food is not taken.) The premise here is that these "addiction-like" symptoms also come from food allergies, even though they are not currently identified as "allergic reactions" by the greater medical community. If you've ever had terrible food cravings, or felt awful until you were able to get the foods you felt your body "needed", (or felt a strange kinship with addicts, even though you don't use addicting drugs!) this book may give you insights that you may not get anywhere else.

5-0 out of 5 stars From The Dark Ages to 21st Century Medicine
After being plagued with skin problems, headaches, tiredness, hay fever, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), depression, etc., etc., etc. for much of my late teens and all of my adult life, and going to over fifteen regular allergists and M.D.s for much of my forty-five years, I read Randolph's book: An Alternative Approach To Allergies.

Realizing that Dr. Randolph had discovered a major piece to the health-puzzle, I finally went to a M.D. in New York who changed the entire basis of his practice from being a "classically trained" allergist to a transformed Clinical Ecologists M.D. After being diagnosed with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) and delayed food allergies--for which I was tested--I removed all the offending chemicals from my home and work environment; I also eliminated the foods causing delayed allergic reactions: The improvement in my health was rapid and live-changing.

Thinking such may be psychosomatic, I went back to eating my delayed allergic foods and returned to using normal household chemical products, e.g., Tide, bleach, Comet, fabric softener, Cling, perfumed soaps, etc., and, within a few days, all my chronic health symptoms returned with a vengeance. I once again eliminated such foods and chemicals from my diet/environment, and with five days I was much better.

Today, five months after visiting the NY Clinical Ecologist, I have all the energy of a 20 year old; am sleeping far less and feel more rested; exercise five days a week (I had little to no energy to do this in the past); my headaches are gone; my IBS has improved to a point where I do not even notice it; I am not experiencing hay fever any longer (I can now own a cat which before I could not even enter a room where a cat resided because within minutes I was itching and becoming tired); and my depression is a thing of the past. And since my life-changing experience, I have introduced many others to this new way of treating food and chemical allergies: All have had similar improvements in health as I experience--without exception.

I thank the late Dr. Randolph for writing this wonderful book and for establishing the branch of Medicine Clinical Ecology and educating doctors regarding MCS and delayed food allergies...and thank you Dr. W. of NY for your diagnosis, treatment and compassion.

I can say from experience--and vastly improved health--the information in Dr. Randolph's book clearly takes the medical field in the area of food and chemical allergies from the Dark Ages into the 21st Century. I only hope more classically trained allergy doctors will read Dr. Randolph's book and make a transition from Dark Age medicine to 21st Century medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Theron Randolph rocks...!
This book saved my life....

I have MCS from hell and I would never have beaten it without discovering Randolph's sane and elegant approach.

The case studies enabled me to understand what was happening with my hyper-reactions to chemicals and foods....

...AND to see how my mental and physical dysfunctions were related to my environmental exposures....

...I am 'almost' well now thanks to Dr Randolph

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential information for everyone
Dr. Theron Randolph was the foremost pioneer in his day of allergy theory, diagnosis, and treatment.Over the years, much has changed in the world of allergy treatment.Dr. Randolph's theories are still pretty solid, and give the layperson or medical professional a sound foundation for understanding allergy and chemical sensitivity.Everyone should be aware of the facts presented in this book, because everyone in the world is affected by the pollution in our world.

That said, the diagnosis methods Dr. Randolph used, though a vast improvement over what else was available at the time, are nowadays unnecessary. There are very gentle and quick methods for diagnosing allergies, but they are outside the scope of mainstream medicine.

The treatment methods are challenging, to say the least.Avoiding what you are allergic to seems like a no-brainer these days. However, it is far easier said than done, in fact, it borders on the impossible.Strict diets like the rotation diet mentioned in this book are very difficult to maintain, as well as socially isolating and psychologically exhausting.

There are ways for completely transforming allergies without injections or dilutions administered as drops under the tongue.Mainstream medicine, however, will never help you find these methods!Whether or not you are interested in subjecting yourself or your loved ones to the diagnosis and treatment delineated in this book, the understanding of allergies you can find here is invaluable.Highly recommended reading, though the treatment and diagnosis methods are not neccesarily recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me with food and chemical sensitivities
This book was a godsend of help for my MCS and food reactions. I react far less intensely and less frequently after doing those energy balancing techniques. And the supplement suggestions were great. I also benefited from doing a phone consult with Prof. Rochlitz. And he just came out with a new book for us MCS, EMFS and food reactors. It's about how we may have underlying porphyria, and to help with that. See the site, [...].

But this classic, Allergies and Candida has stood the test of time, and is highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars A well written reference book
I'm on my second reading of this excellent book.I'm sure I'm so fascinated with it because it describes my condition and some very good solutions that the author has developed and perfected over the years.I'm looking forward to implimenting them as soon as I learn the techniques described.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - the allergy/sensitivity testing is on the money
This book led me to read the ingredients on my toothpaste. Everyday, twice a day, I was sabotaging my health by brushing my teeth.Although Toms of Main toothpaste is a really great toothpaste (my dentist noticed my cleaner teeth), it is made with Xylitol - which as explained in the ingredients list is derived from Birch.I read the label on my toothpaste after using the testing techniques and finding not only a weak muscle, but that my whole arm went weak (from just holding the tube of toothpaste). According to my allergist Birch is my worst allergy. I no longer feel like falling asleep during the day (at least in the mornings after I would brush my teeth) and at night I am sleeping better.I am working on the Candida and other allergy issues now. Some of the directions get a little confusing but even his basic exercises are very helpful.

If you are sick or just want to stay healthy and feel great, get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide For Getting Well
In the course of my more than 13 years of battling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I have read literally hundreds of "health books".I have come to judge these books on whether or not they contain useful, practical information, and if applying the information results in a significant improvement to my health. After reading this book and following the principles it explains, I went from spending days to weeks at a time barely able to get out of bed, to working fulltime and resuming a normal lifestyle. This is one of the very few books I have ever read that effectively addresses the usual collection of otherwise "incurable" chronic illnesses, which have become so widespread.I would wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone who is seriously interested in overcoming one of these chronic illnesses.Wishing you the best of health! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Needs some revisions!
I was recently diagnosed with several food allergies/sensitivities.I was excited to get this book.Unfortunately, A for effort, but F for product results. The recipes lack flavor and in some cases taste vile. The author never attempted sweeteners for the baking items such as agave nectar or even honey. Not so tasty!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my daughter's allergies
My daughter is allergic to many foods including dairy, soy, wheat, gluten, tomatoes, all nuts, seafood, sugar, and many others. This book is perfect for her needs!I have only tried two recipes but I made a quinoa pizza dough with a pesto sauce and goat cheese and she loved it!I do have to be careful and make some substitutions here and there but I appreciate all the choices the book has to offer. For example, I had to leave the garlic out of the pesto and substitute sunflower seeds for pine nuts.I still appreciate the base recipes that this book offers and am excited to get my own copy.I am borrowing the one I have now but after one complete dinner I am sold! This is the best allergy book I have found so far.Thank you to the author!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST ALLERGY COOKBOOK EVER!!!
I have 19 food allergies and can make food that TASTES GOOD.Yes, you do need to get some "special" items from the store but the pumpkin pie recipe is heavenly. We have several food allergy sufferers in our family and this makes life simpler and tastier for all.

2-0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
My son is allergic to soy and milk so I thought I'd give this a try for a birthday cake for him. The recipes are so strange that I will never use it. Almost everything in it has strange ingredients. I just wanted normal everyday recipes...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great information - good starter book!!
Having recently discovered that I have multiple sensitivities (gluten, dairy, soy, and egg) I felt overwhelmed with where to start and what to do.This book was such a lifesaver!! Practical, helpful information and most of all great encouragement.I especially found helpful a few pages about handling all the food prep needed while still working full-time!! So for me, this book could have had a better title - so much more than a cookbook!!In fact, I haven't really viewed it as a cookbook, although the easy recipes also inspired me.True, many of the recipes must be adapted for multiple allergies, but also many suggestions were made on the variety of ways to adapt any recipes.I highly recommend this book for anyone newly diagnosed or investigating food allergies.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT allergy-free
I don't understand this cookbook, it says allergy-free yet almost every recipe has a main offender: gluten (through wheat, barley or potentially oats), milk or nuts. All of the bread recipes say wheat, rye, barley or oat flour (HELLO gluten). It does give you some ideas for gluten-free flour mixes in the beginning of the book, but how will I know what mix to use for what recipe? Besides the gluten, most recipes call for nuts or milk. What gets me is it talks about substitutions but how can I substitute nuts if the recipe's main ingredient is nuts! How about - "nut butter granola bars","pecan balls","raisin nut cookies", "chocolate crunch nut butter bars", "honey nut raisin cookies" - mind you, these are 5 out of 6 recipes IN A ROW (and wouldn't you know it, that 6th recipe has nuts as an optional ingredient). Why would an allergy free cookbook have so many allergens? There is some good information in the beginning of where to find potential allergens and hidden foods etc. I could just use that to learn about allergies in general and then use a normal recipe book to try and make my own sustitutions.

4-0 out of 5 stars allergy free cookbook
Great informative book. Not all of the recipes however are allergy free, many still contain some of the popular allergens. ... Read more
