Product Description
An indispensable guide to dealing with this potentially deadly allergy.

Nuts and nut oils are found in countless foods and topical ointments/creams. They are also the leading cause of fatal and near-fatal food allergy reactions. Unfortunately, nut allergies are not as rare as they were once thought to be. According to U.S. and British studies, their prevalence has doubled over the last decade alone.

Co-written by a leading expert on nut allergies, How to Live with a Nut Allergy tells you what you need to know to:

  • Avoid exposure to all kinds of tree nuts and peanuts
  • Reduce the risk of setting off a serious allergic reaction
  • Be prepared should a reaction occur
  • Avoid a reaction in close quarters, such as airplanes
  • Keep children safe from exposure

    5-0 out of 5 stars Life-saving information
When my daughter was diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening peanut allergy, I was in a state of panic. This book, recommended by a relative, spells out clearly and thoroughly steps which can, and in some instances must, be taken to live with a peanut or tree nut allergy. From suggestions for reading labels at the grocery to tips for dining out and taking precautions while traveling, this book has helped me to feel well-informed and prepared to help my daughter live a safe and full life with her newly diagnosed allergies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative yet not overwhelming
As the parent of a newly-diagnosed peanut-allegic child, I've bought and read many books on allergies in the last few months. This is my favorite. It contains practical information and tips for dealing with a nut or peanut allergy. It is easy-to-read and includes real-life ideas for staying safe with a nut allergy, as well as being realistic that there are some limitations to places nut-allergic people can safely go.Even after reading several other books, there were a few new tidbits here.

I wish I had read this book first.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative ans easy to read
This book is clearly laid out with with all the basic information you will need to deal with a nut allergy. It would be useful for some one who is allergic to ALL nuts rather that just peanuts. It lists the many different types of nut and many not so obvious places you will find hidden nuts.Help is provided for the minefield of reading food labels. There is a good chapter on the use of medication in the event of an allergic reaction, and how to store and use your medication which is a useful reference to have should you ever need to explain this to anyone; such as a teacher or babysitter. My favorite chapter was on sending a nut allergic child to school. The authors give clear solid advice on what you will need to say and do to help make the school/daycare/preschool environment as safe as possible for your child. If you are starting off on a journey to learn more about nut allergy and how it will affect your life this book will help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful whole grain recipes
This book is full of wonderful information on gluten free grains, gluten free flour recipes that are wonderful.
Just love many of the recipes. I do agree with the soy issue mentioned by other reviewers. I avoid soy and just substituted
chicken where it called for tofu or just left it out. Sesame seed oil instead of soy sauce and other gluten free flours when it called for soy flour. There really isn't that many recipes containing soy so don't let that be an issue to stop you from using this book. It is becoming one of my favorites.

1-0 out of 5 stars Needs soy alternatives
As a multiple allergy sufferer, I concur with the Naturopathic Doctor's assessment - there are no safe substitutions in this book for those of us who suffer from reactions to soy products, which are included in many of these recipes.I would expect any publication billed as an "allergy cookbook" to list viable substitutions for each of the eight most common allergens: soy, eggs, wheat, dairy, tree nuts, peanuts, fish and shellfish.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not
As an allergy sufferer who counsels many allergy patients, I am disturbed that this book bills itself as "all natural" yet contains so much soy.Modern soy products are anything but "natural" and soy is now among the top 8 allergens. Those who are allergic to dairy or peanuts who start eating soy foods or drinking soymilk will, in all likelihood, soon be allergic to soy as well. Finally, people who eat a lot of soy often develop digestive problems and "leaky gut" syndrome, causing further problems for allergy sufferers. And there is a little known connection between soy and celiac disease so people with wheat and gluten allergies should definitely not eat soy either. Thus I feel impelled to warn readers that soy products are poor choices for people already challenged with allergies and related problems such as eczema and asthma.Yet this book includes lots of recipes with soy. I recommend that people educate themselves as fully as possible on this subject whether they think they have soy allergies or not by reading the book "The Whole Soy Story" by Kaayla Daniel. The book has been endorsed by Dr. Doris Rapp, a leading authority on allergies who has a great website [...]."

4-0 out of 5 stars Healthy recipes, without gluten and other allergens
This book has recipes for frozen desserts, main courses, soups and sauces, and many other items. Most are vegetarian or vegan, and they're quite tasty. But I'll focus on the baked goods, since they're the hardest to getright (in my experience).

Unlike the recipes in many popular gluten-freecookbooks (which contain lots of sugar, white flours and shortening), thebaked goods in this book are made from whole grains (or non-grain flours, like quinoa or cassava) and a small amount of unrefined sweeteners andoils. The recipes are marked as to which common allergens they don'tcontain; most are free of wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, and corn. There arealso variations for many of the recipes, so you can adapt them to yourpreferences."101 Cookies' is a great example of this. The authorgives a basic cookie recipe, then lists possible substitutions for almostevery ingredient - so this recipe can give you "101" (more orless!) different types of cookies.

I've tried many of the recipes, andthey've turned out well, although sometimes they needed a littlefine-tuning (more or less liquid, shorter baking time, etc.).So Iwouldn't recommend this book to a very inexperienced cook, or anyone whowants to recreate the taste of Wonderbread or Pepperidge Farms. But ifyou're willing to improvise, and you're looking for an alternative torecipes or commercial mixes with highly processed ingredients, this book isvery useful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone with celiac/food allergies!
Having a close friend recently diagnosed with celiac disease, this book is exactly what she needed! In the past we enjoyed many meals together until she was diagnosed. The Let's Eat Out! book has helped her to start eating out again and to enjoy her meals while being safe. The book helped her learn about hidden ingredients along with some surprises of where gluten and/or wheat may be included in specific cuisines. She also found resourceful information on how to communicate with the wait staff and even a reference to a gluten-free website that includes local restaurants in the area that have gluten-free options. We also both think its great that the book is broken down by cuisines especially since Italian which we get all the time. I even purchased her a couple of the passports so she can bring them along in her purse when eating out. Overall a wonderful resource for anyone with celiac disease and/or food allergies that wants to enjoy eating out confidently.

    Product Description
The connection between inflammation and heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic ailments has become increasingly clear. Many food allergies and poor dietary choices overstimulate the immune system and cause inflammatory responses that erode the body’s wellness and pave the path for ill health. Based on her naturopathic practice, Jessica Black has devised a complete program for how to eat and cook to minimize and even prevent inflammation and its consequences. The first part of the book explains the benefits of the anti-inflammatory diet with an accessible discussion of the science behind it. The second half contains 108 recipes. The author offers many substitution suggestions and includes a healthy ingredient tip with each recipe. Most of the dishes can be prepared quickly and easily by even novice cooks. A week of sample menus for summer months and another for winter are included, as well as a substitutions chart, allowing readers to modify their favorite recipes to increase their healing potential. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I'd had this book 50 years ago!
I studied everything I could find on keeping my family healthy according to the best available information at the time, and I practiced what I learned.I thought I was doing pretty well, but with the information in this book, I could have done even better! Fewer meds and more of the right kinds of foods (non-inflammatory)would have been very helpful. Anyone who is concerned about health for whatever reason could benefit.I certainly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!!
This is a great book everyone should read and Amazon.com is the best place to purchase it. THANKS for a seamless transaction.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as well-researched or current as I had hoped
This book is an OK starting resource for those who know little or nothing aobut nutrition, but I was hoping for a one-stop resource that would concisely and accurately summarize the current research on diet and inflammation, and this is not it. While it does contain a list of references at the back, the many controversial assertions (such as drinking absolutely massive amounts of water, and avoiding all nightshade vegetables including tomatoes and spinach, which are very high in documented health benefits)are not footnoted and supported by specific research. The discussion portion of the book is only 54 pages and contains little one couldn't find with a quick internet search. While the recipes look tasty, they take up the rest of the 225 pages and I have plenty of other cook books. Also, while the author gives a few general tips about nutrition, she doesn't mention the research on turmeric, which is perhaps the most promising anti-inflammatory spice, and she doesn't mention other important areas of research such as the effects of low aspirin doses and the extremely important relationship between inflammation and gum disease. I will be looking further.

4-0 out of 5 stars some good recipes
This is an interesting and well written book. I wanted to get some easy starter recipes for the anti-inflammation diet and they have turned out better than I expected in most cases. The Easy Pancakes were easy to make - not so easy to eat! But the Hearty Healthy cookies are pretty darn good and the Sweet Potato soup was delicious! I would say that the few days that I've tried to stick to the Anti-inflammation diet - I do think I had less aches and pains.Unfortunately, I haven't worked at it like I should. The author provides all the information you need, reasons to do it, and a variety of easy recipes to try.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic resource for patients
Dr. Jessica Black has eloquently explained how the food we eat can affect and is paramount our health and our well-being. Her eating plan is easy to implement, and all the recipes I've tried so far are delicious.I will definitely recommend this book as a resource for my patients.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Things Come In Small Packages
This 160-page, 5 x 7 little book may be small in size by today's standards for self-help/healing books on allergies, fatigue, hypogylcemia, depression, hypothyroid, heart disease, alcoholism, and diabetes, but GOODBYE ALLERGIES is the best that I've read in years. Author Tom R. Blaine - a judge, not a doctor - speaks from experience without weighing down the manuscript with too much technical jargon. His message is clear, to the point, and as timely as the first year of publication.I found myself wondering why it has taken so many years for these concepts to finally hit the mainstream.

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome Relief
Judge Tom Blaine explains in an easy-to-understand manner why his recommended diet is effective at combatting allergic reactions. The book has been criticized on the basis that he is not a doctor. However, he has done his research and is mindful of both accuracy and clarity. Most importantly, the proof is in the results. My mother was at wit's end after visiting a plethora of doctors concerning a rash over most of her body. She saw this book on a discount pile and figured that it wouldn't hurt to try.In just two weeks, her rash was gone for the first time in years. My allergies are more respiratory. The program worked for me as well.Whenever I start having problems, I go on the program and my allergies clear up.I've recommended this book to many people and I encourage you to give it a try if you suffer from allergies at all. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars super interesting book!
Great book for anyone who has allergies, digestive problems, asthma or other potential food-sensitivity reactions.

2-0 out of 5 stars slightly lacking
This book was an ok basic overview of food intolerance. It had extensive lists of foods to avoid, symptom lists etc. What it did not have was any scientific evidence to back up various claims. In the intro the author claims a connection between food intolerance and mental illness and claims that it is well known that many people with "celiac disease also suffer from bipolar disorder (schizophrenia)."I have no idea if this is true because there is no citation or reference as to where this info came from. Also, anyone who took psych 101 in college knows that bipolar and schizophrenia are too very different disorders, and while a healthful diet is always best, these illness are not caused by food intolerance but by abnormal brain function that cannot be fixed by a special diet.

While much of the info in this book makes sense (i.e.- don't eat food that makes you feel bad) it does not back up its claims with any sort of research. It also doesn't go into a whole lot of detail about elimination diets, which I thought was odd.Instead it recommends certain tests from specific labs throughout the country, claiming that not all labs could do these tests properly, which doesn't make sense and is a little suspect.I started to wonder if the authors had financial ties to any of the services/ products they recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!
I wish I had this book when I was diagnosed with food intolerances in 2007. It's the most complete information I've found so far! If you have food intolerances and have been struggling to figure out what steps to take in your recovery get this book. Just one negative - the recipes aren't very inspiring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Food Intolerance Bible
The Food Intolerance Bible is an invaluable resource. Like many people, I was a little confused about the difference between food allergies and food intolerances. Many of the books I've read on these subjects use the words interchangeably. I know for a fact that I have some food allergies. As a child, I was thoroughly tested. Sure enough, if I ate enough a small quantity of those foods, my tongue immediately started to swell up and I started to gasp for breath. These early incidents were scary so I learned very quickly to stay well away from these foods.

Food intolerances are slightly different. The effects aren't always immediate or dramatic. Though careful watching of my body's reaction to certain foods, I was pretty sure that there were some foods in my regular diet (namely white flour, refined sugar, and chocolate) that were causing or exasperating problems such as abdominal pain, cramping, and depression. Unfortunately, these symptoms aren't always immediately noticeable so I tend to associate these foods with a feeling of comfort and increased energy.

The Food Intolerance Bible helped me gain an understanding of my body's reactions to certain foods. It also gave me an idea about what other conditions, illnesses, or body reactions could also be causing or adding to my problems. Now, I have a place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for both community library cookbook and health collections.
Nearly everyone has some form of food intolerance, claims "The Food Intolerance Bible: A Nutritionist's Plan to Beat Food Cravings, Fatigue, Mood Swings, Celiac Disease, Headaches, IBS, and Deal with Food Allergies". Food Intolerance occurs when ones body rejects what you put in - and the rejection comes in a huge amount of miserable ailments to make people feel terrible for that day. With seven steps to minimize the occurrence of food intolerance, and over 70 recipes such as Plum Crumble and Black Peppercorns with Sweet Potato fries, Salmon Lasagna, and so much more on top of that, "The Food Intolerance Bible: A Nutritionist's Plan to Beat Food Cravings, Fatigue, Mood Swings, Celiac Disease, Headaches, IBS, and Deal with Food Allergies" is highly recommended for both community library cookbook and health collections.

Allergic diseases affect nearly one-fourth of the population and cause or contribute to significant chronic illness. Allergic diseases are common and are seen by a wide variety of health care providers. In Clinical Allergy: Diagnosis and Management, the author provides a practical clinical overview for the common disorders encountered in the specialty of Allergy. Designed to be easily readable and to provide clinically applicable information for both the nonallergist and allergist, the intent is to unravel the mystery of allergy. The introductory chapters focus on the human immune response, environmental allergens, and the different types of allergy testing. The subsequent chapters focus on the common allergic conditions seen in the office or clinic, including rhinitis and rhinosinusitis, allergic eye disease, asthma, urticaria and angioedema, atopic and contact dermatitis, drug allergy, food allergy, anaphylaxis, and stinging insect allergy. "Cross-talk" between chapters helps show the interrelationships among the various allergic disorders. The chapters begin with a review of pathophysiologic mechanisms and then consider a clinically structured approach to diagnosis and management of the disorders. In addition to pharmacologic treatment, the importance of nonpharmacologic management and patient education is emphasized. At the end of each chapter, clinical vignettes highlight the daily management of the allergic patient. Clinical Allergy: Diagnosis and Management, provides a logical framework for the evaluation and management of allergic disorders in patients.

I got this book from the library, and have found it very useful in planning the common foods elimination diet I am going to do for myself and my daughter. The illustrations are very cheesy, but this book is informative, easy to read, and gives hope that you can actually DO the protocol. The pictorial lists of foods that you can eat and foods you must avoid on the elimination diet make them easy to remember, and I think this book will make it easy for my daughter's baby sitter to implement the diet during her trial. You should definitely read this book if you suspect food allergies for yourself or your child.

Explaining a food allergy to a child is a difficult task. For food allergic children, education is key to keeping them safe. This book can help a teacher explain to a classroom the many ways that friends and classmates can help protect their friend with a severe food allergy, as well as supporting the child with food allergies in the class.

I found this book is an age appropriate resource for me to explain food allergies to young children.

3-0 out of 5 stars What Is Your Poison?
After many years of research, the authors try to prove that our environment is cleaner now than it was twenty years ago. That's welcome new to Al Gore and to all of us who have sentitive noses (and throats -- what pesticides attack first in my body) and allergies. This town I call home is one of the most pollutted places you could find. A few times, when Spring gets here and my allergies have reached their peak (and I'm sure I'm at death's door), I declare that I am alleergic to this town I use to love.

Pesticides are my major enemy, not the lawn chemicals, but the strong indoor kinds which were forced on me despite doctors' letters backing up my allergic reactions. I have ended up in the hospital emergency rooms due to being severely poisoned. So has Star, my cat of many years, had to have treatment at the vet. clinic.

Toxic mold is another thing which slaps me in the face as soon as I enter a contaminated area. I was the first to detect it in the Tennessee Theatre before it was renovated, and at Oak Ridge High School auditorium. Both have gone through intensive mold-removing process. You'll be glad to know that foam insulation in attics is now dry enough to make it safe for the installer and inhabitantsof the house. This used to be a major health scare, and I was concerned when John L. did his own insulation this year. I was shocked to know he stayed home long enough for repair work in a stone house, notoriously damp with killer wet basements, hard on books.

To kill germs in polluted rivers which supply our water, the utility companies expose us to dangerous chemicals which kill germs. But, if you consume this "treated" water, it can harm your bodies on the inside. Even
cooking or boiling does not extract the danger from too many chemicals. My biggest challenge right now is toting "spring water" from the stores to my new abode for coffee, cooking, drinking, etc. Even the instructions which came with my new coffeemaker demanded bottled water to be used in the appliance.

When I moved, I left the cleaning to people who get paid to use toxic chemicals. I gave up my deposit as I had purposely been poisoned enough by the management. Cleaning products is a large hidded risk and should never be combined; they are strong enough alone to kill an ox.Rug cleaners and dry-cleaning products cause cancer in mice. They kept Star sick, so now they have my money to replace the carpet. Lead in paint is fatal to infants and can cause birth defects in newborns.

Asbestos is a killer! One of our major business on Gay Street is so full of this toxin, the developer leaves it setting empty. I've tried to interest the mayor into letting us use it as a bus center to get in out of the elements. It's not like we'd be living there. There is some kind of work taking place outside that building now that the Mayor has admitted he was wrong in selecting the bus site on property owned by someone who wants to keep it intact.I stayed sick for months and developed stomach ulcers when I tried to eat the Meals on Wheels because of the food additives which made the oft inedible and stinky. The meals contain preservatives as they are processed in advance and stored. By the time they reach their destination, the bread in mine even was moldy, Several years ago, my residence was a cold, cinder-block "house" under a huge electric transforer (we have those in abundance in the Tennessee Valley as TVA is based here). I was dying, I thought, and six months in a small rural town brought me back to life and ready to take on the big hometown again.Any question about poisons from chloroform, arsenic, the silent killer (radon and natural gas), environmental (real or overblown) and household items are explained in this useful reference book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Talks about things not talked about in other books
I read the book a few years ago and one of the things that amazed me was the tendancy for people to develop allergies w/o a family history of it.For example:

High Fructose Corn syrup is a derivative of corn.... used to sweeten reconstituted fruit which thru manufacturing processes lost it's sweetness. Many people develop an allergy to corn because upon consumption releases endorphines and causes emotional feelings that need to be constantly fed... in other words an addiction, hence the obesity factor.

Person eats food w/ corn syrup. Person experiences a high associated w/ endorphines. Person comes down off high and experiences anxiety. Person, ON A SUBLIMINAL BASIS, continues to consume food w/ corn syrup thus the obesity factor and thus the impossibility for many to lose weight.

There are also examples of people who are alcoholic because of the same reason.Incredible.
It's in there w/ complete studies. Doctors don't acknowledge it because they make too much money on treatments of overweightpeople and so does the pill industry. It's there just read it.

Don't believe me? Read this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Promises Much But Delivers Little
This book attempts to be thoroughly comprehensive but ultimately fails because often some vital information is missing.I believe that health books which really empower are ones which give real, useable answers, not vague outlines. For instance, Mr Null does not tell me where to get the vital allergy tests done, what they cost, what they involve or which laboratorys/methods he recommends. He refers to these tests numerous times as providing part of the answer, but I am left feeling that I have a vague idea of the problem, but a wholly inadequate idea of the solution.Mr Null is NOT an allergy expert and it shows. The book is not completely useless, but my advice is to look elsewhere for help. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
My four year old son loves this book. He thinks the main character, "A.J." is "cool". What I like about the book is that his allergy is never specified so the book can be relevant to your child no matter what the food allergy. The story is fun yet serious without being scary. Perfect for kids with any food allergy or food intolerance as well as to educate friends and family. A cute story with a great message!

Allergy Free Naturally begins by providing important information on oft-hidden allergy triggers and brings to light surprising, connections between foods, pollen, and chemicals. Next, Allergy Free Naturally offers hundreds of effective, nondrug treatments and easy-to-follow action plans for hay fever, asthma, food allergy, pet allergy, and other allergy-related conditionsfor both children and adults.

    Amazon.com Review
To the millions who suffer from allergies--about 38 percent (or 100,000,000) of the U.S. population alone--chronic sneezing, wheezing, itching, and other unbearable ailments are no joke. Yet keen humor lightens the dark side of this "silent epidemic" in Allergy Free Naturally, where writers Rick Ansorge and Eric Metcalf, plus a host of Prevention Health Books editors and writers, dissect allergies in a way that both entertains and informs. Seeking to transform each reader "into an allergy sleuth and an allergy enforcer," Ansorge and Metcalf present thorough background checks on the conventional, environmental, and alternative approaches to allergy. Diagnostic tests, typical prognoses, and recommendations from each of these three disparate schools of treatment are clearly presented, applauded, or questioned here. Then, swollen chapters on topics from asthma to sinusitus detail specific steps for uncovering and outwitting allergy triggers in the home, the yard, at work, and elsewhere. While this comprehensive information draws from each school of thought, sensible action plans help readers create their optimum combination of nondrug solutions to allergy symptoms. The history, research findings, sidebar essays, and helpful suggestions flow simply across the book's 500-plus pages. Consider it a semester's worth of reading for a class titled "The Biography of Allergy," team-taught by a well-educated, rather witty staff (who, incidentally, chose cover art obviously inspired by a certain prescription antihistamine.) --Liane Thomas ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for help on Allergies
This is the best book on Allergies as I have read many.It tells you what you need to know and how to fine tune your needs with the best info available. It helps you troubleshoot and solve your allergies, by helping you know what to avoid and what to take to help including supplements and diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
I really got a lot out of this book. I found it to have a wealth of really good information for me to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, something that makes sense
I'm a seasonal rhinitis sufferer so I only feel really bad for about 6-8 weeks a year. But that is enough to make me want to find a real solution, not one that costs hundreds of dollars and numerous trips to the doctor.I've done all that with no real success.I liked the authors approach to allergy prevention and treatment.I have been following their advise in regard to diet changes and the addition of some supplements and I feel better.
I've read the book, in sections, several times, and still refer back to it.I found it to be an excellent resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathe Easy Again
Of course, I bought this book because I am an allergy victim.I still remember when they broke out.It was like having the rug pulled out from underneath my feet. One day you are carefree, the next you are sneezing your brains out.Work was out of the question.Everything was out of the question. My life was a living hell, and I wondered what I could do to regain some semblance of health and sanity. With this book, I found out that I am not the only one, and that my immune system is not evolutionary backwater.Something else is happening here.38 percent of Americans have at least one kind of allergy. That is over 100 million people.Make no mistake, allergies have reached epidemic proportions. However, it wasn't always this way.Allergies, along with asthma and various other strange immune system diseases, have been one the rise ever since industrialism went overdrive circa 1950.The link is undeniable:Allergies are correlated with the Western Lifestyle.People from the so-called Third World have fever allergies, and when they immigrate to America or other industrialized countries their allergy rate quickly blends in with the population. In other words, we are not talking about genetics.Environmental factors are clearly at play. The authors of this book have done a wonderful job tracing both allergies and asthma.Anything you might possibly want to know about the two is in this book.Their approach is broad.Instead of focusing merely on conventional methods, they take a "blended" or "integrated" approach, embracing traditional, environmental and alternative practices. As they say, this gives patients more options, thereby providing more potential remedies to stem the burgeoning epidemic of sneezing and wheezing. Why limit yourself to pills, which often have absurd side-effects?From Chinese herbalism and acupuncture to medical prescription drugs, this book has it all. They have integrated thousands of university studies, and quote MDs across the board.Does drinking wheatgrass help? How does it measure up to the gold standard conventional methodology of double-blind, placebo controlled studies?Do carotenoids, flavonoids, and essential fatty acids affect our immunofunctioning?Do allergy shots work? From mind-body techniques to sinus irrigation and detoxification, you will be exposed to all; and the authors always detail everything in terms of science, making sure to note risks, side-effects, and other potential concerns. With this book, I learned so much.Without it, I would not have been able to integrate an approach that includes lifestyle, environmental, and conventional medicine options.

    Imperative for those with allergies.

    j.w.k.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BOOK FOR ANYONE WITH ALLERGIES!
With over a third of the population having an allergy to something or other, this book will definitely be beneficial to those who are searching for relief from means other than prescription medication.Often doctor prescribed medication can cause more side effects than the original problem itself, especially used on a long-term basis.

As one who has a number of allergies ranging from feather pillows to a variety of antibiotics and pain medications, I understand the frustration a person can have in dealing with various allergies.Herbal supplements, adjusting one's diet, and eliminating pollens in the home (I use a filtered air exchanger)can help certain allergies. As the book points out, there are a number of tests which can pin-point allergies, some are helpful and others are outright nasty to endure. The book provides information on allergy testing as well as ways to relieve symptoms.

Each person is different and responds differently to medications. What works for one may or may not work for another, but for allergy sufferers searching for alternative methods for dealing with their symptoms, they may find a helpful solution here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible for those with food allergies
My husband suffers from Gluten intolerance as well as food allergies. The gluten issues were quite easy to control....no wheat. But the food allergies are a nightmare. If you are allergic, you feel like you have the flu all the time. This is the only book we have found that gives you an in-depth look at what you should look for and avoid. Because the author suffers from the same thing, his findings are from personal discovery. There are additives in everything we eat that can make you sick, if you suffer from allergies. There are things occurring naturally in foods that can make you sick. This book can help you live a much better life. It's all about knowing what the the allergens are and avoidance.

2-0 out of 5 stars Distinguish between food allergy and food intolerance.
I have not read this book, but looking at the table of contents, the author does not make the basic scientific distinction between food allergy and food intolerance.

While even unscientific medical practices might be helpful, I would prefer the many other books which are scientifically up to date.

2-0 out of 5 stars not the book for me
I have multiple severe food allergies (eat something that touched a peanut and end up in the emergency room with a swollen face type deal). I came to this book looking for tips about good avoidance and some explanations about the actual chemistry of the reactions themselves. All I got were a few dismissive lines about how people with severe allergies just need to avoid the foods that make them sick. Thanks. If you have a more subtle problem, like eczema you can't seem to shake or migraines, this could be the book for you, but I didn't find it to be helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cured my Migraines
I have been migraine-free for five years since reading this book!

I had tried Imitrex, acupuncture, physical therapy, massage, biofeedback, chiropractics, herbs, oral sprays and everything I had heard of for migraines except Botox injections and nerve severance.

My general practitioner, second opinion doctors and neurologists told me to avoid red wine, Chinese food and chocolate.Their "migraine diet" came from the back of an Imitrex pamphlet (keep in mind, this was five years ago).

When I told my doctor about my self-diagnosis of food intolerances from this book, she tried to act like she already knew this. Then why didn't she diagnose me?Why didn't she put me on an elimination diet? Why didn't she send me to a nutritionist, allergist or immunologist? Why did she put a teenage liver on codeine permanently and say I would have to live with it or grow out of it?

If your doctor is not part of the Nutritional Enlightenment, YOU NEED THIS BOOK to help you find the right specialist.

Even if this book isn't all inclusive, it will introduce you to the basic concepts and terms to Google and talk to your practitioner about.

I am not sensationalizing that this book changed my life.I almost didn't graduate high school because of migraines, and now I have a computer science degree.

2-0 out of 5 stars Would make a good magazine article
Though it does contain some interesting information, the book seems to be written for somebody with the IQ of a donut. He starts by detailing all his education, and then continues totalk down to the reader. He also repeats himself without adding any detail.(Yes, we learn that he really likes corn on the cob!)The contents of the book could easily be boiled down to 10 pages without missing anything important. Also, don't expect to find much of anything concerning 'classic' food allergies here.

As a saving grace, there are a few nice charts and tables at the end to help pinpoint MSG content in fast foods and elsewhere. ... Read more
