Product Description
Mary Magdalene

The controversial woman with a past only one Man could forgive. A true love story that changed the face of history.

"I was Miryam of Magdala, seller of fine fabrics and wife of Yaakov the fisherman. With my husband and son, I held a place of honor among my countrymen until a company of rogue soldiers took everything from me. I might not be Roman, but I knew injustice when I saw it. And I had been most grievously wronged."

In an era when women are sequestered and silenced, Miryam of Magdala lives a contended life until her sonÂ’s careless gesture evokes a hostile action that shatters her serenity. With no hope of justice, Miryam commits and unthinkable actÂ…and descends into depths of darkness that threaten her life and her sanity.

Even after Yeshua the Messiah dramatically restores her life, Miryam can neither forget nor forgive unresolved injustices. Prodded by a hunger for vengeance she will not deny, this woman of uncommon courage risks her life and her heart by drawing destiny into her own hands. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Researched, and No Feeling at All for Dialogue
I was hoping this would be a readable alternative to the travesty known as The Da Vinci Code. However, after reading two-thirds of Magdalene, I have to admit that Dan Brown is poor on theology but (at least) long on readability.I never had the slightest sense when reading Magdalene that the dialogue was anything like real characters ever spoke, and the characters are, at best, two-dimensional.The author seems to believe that calling these biblical characters by their "correct" names--Yeshua instead of Jesus, Maryam instead of Mary--constitutes "historical veracity."The best historical novels convey the reader into the past, but of course, such novels require extensive research, and such painstaking work is not evident here. This seems to be true of most Christian fiction today, although there does seem to be an appetite for even the second-rate material. If readers crave biblical fiction that is well-written and well-researched, I heartily recommend the classics by Sholem Asch, such as The Nazarene and The Apostle. These have held up well over time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok
The beginning was gripping, the end held my attention. The middle though, lagged a bit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget everything you thought you knew
Back in 2006 when this book had originally come out, The Da Vinci Code was all the rage in the media. Even though it was a fictional story, there had appeared to be historical evidence to back up the claims. Also there was also a rise in interest in Gnosticism. Therefore many Christian publishers set to provide an alternative for those who were interested in what was considered the true story of what really happened between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Tyndale published a line of different versions of Mary Magdalene's story ranging from contemporary fiction to YA fiction to historical Biblical fiction. This book is the latter.

Angela Hunt has always been one of my favorite authors because her books are always guaranteed to be well written and extremely well researched. You can tell in her books she's actually gone out and done first hand research in her stories, instead of just using second hand data. I really liked how there is an authentic feel to the book as the characters use Hebrew and Greek names such as Miryam and Yochanan. While the characters do speak in English so we can understand them, they don't speak in a contemporary fashion, as is a mistake some authors make when writing historical fiction. There is no mention of Mary being a prostitute or even a fallen woman in this book. Instead Hunt portrays her as a woman who has fallen on hard times and is on the brink of desperation. She does deal with demons as is stated in the Bible. There is a major parallel subplot involving a Roman solider that intertwines with Mary's story but other than that no major liberties were taken with the character. I really felt as if this book brought the character to life and helped me to understand her and the world she lived in better.

As an added bonus there is also an interview with the author which details her research and answers questions about the accuracy of the story as well as pages of references of the books and original texts used in the research. I know that Biblical fiction can be a touchy subject for some readers, but if you are a fan of the genre and want to know more about this controversial woman, pick up this book. It's a fascinating read and will keep you enthralled.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very imaginative!
This may not be the most accurate account of Mary Magdalene, but it sure is the most interesting. If you are looking for great fiction and will realize that this is purely fiction brought to life by the author's imagination, you will enjoy this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Magdalene, It's never too late to begin a new life
Magdalene

Very disappointing. The author failed to stay true to the scripture relating to Mary Magdalene. She went overboard with her imagination and the plot was sorely lacking. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get the first one, the scond one (this one), and the third one!
Great book, although somewhat predictable (which is what I like). Can't wait for the third to come out!Great series over all!Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller are both EXCELLENT authors. All of their stuff is great!

4-0 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Love (Broadmoor Legacy Book 2)
I have read other books of the author(s).I like the Victorian period and the fact that it is based on real families of the day.The writers' style flows and creates pictures in your mind that makes you keep picking up the book to find out what the next chapter brings. This is my fourth book of the two series. The first on the Pullman legacy and now this series on the Broadmoor famly.I am nearly finished with the last book of this set.I don't want it to end; but by the same token, I can't stop reading to find our what the next chapter brings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved It
"An Unexpected Love" is Book 2 of The Broadmoor Legacy - 397 pages.Book 1 is "A Daughter's Inheritance" and Book 3 will be "A Surrendered Heart" due for release the summer of 2009.These books are historical Christian fiction, a genre with which I was previously unfamiliar. However, the authors Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller totally pulled me in, and I felt very drawn to the three cousins - Fanny, Sophie, and Amanda.Sophie captured my heart in "An Unexpected Love."This book is even better than the first, and I cannot wait for the last book in this trilogy to be released.I am adding all three to my library.Just buy it.You'll love it (even if it isn't your usual genre). ...
