Product Description
Anatomy of Movement: Exercises, the companion volume to Anatomy of Movement, describes and illustrates, through hundreds of photographs and drawings, a comprehensive series of exercises involving the most common movements of the body. Over a hundred new illustrations were added in this revised edition. The exercises were chosen on the basis of their effectiveness and with concern for their safety. Some are designed to focus on strengthening a particular region or muscle group, others the entire body. Each exercise prepares the body to respond well to the demands of particular movements. Together they serve as a basis for the more specialized movements associated with various physical disciplines and therapies. Presentation follows the sequencing in Anatomy of Movement. For each body region the authors describe characteristic movements; potential sources of stiffness or laxity and how to detect, prevent, and overcome them; how to strengthen specific muscles or muscle groups; and how to coordinate movements. This is followed by practice pages; on which specific exercises are demonstrated. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful manual for those wanting to learn more about the anatomy of movement
As a student of dance, yoga, and Pilates instructor I have found the "AOM: Exercises" to be a very useful companion to the original AOM book.It provides deeper understanding of the anatomy involved in posture, walking, and more specialized movements such as plies and jumps.I have used the exercises, which are beautifully basic, to help students with, for example, feet and ankle problems with excitingly good success. Because the exercises appear to be pretty basic to my students, I have found that they will do them more often on their own. I recommend this book for those that need to understand the anatomy involved in every day movement as well as to those that want to enhance theiir dance/yoga/Pilates experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great resource
I like this book a lot.I found it very informative and helpful in my massage therapy practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars great resource for pilates trainer
I purchased this book for my ESL student who is undergoing pilates certification. It is very helpful because it provides detailed pics of exercises and the cues that are used.It is a nice supplemment to the Anatomy of Movement Primary book.

Product Description

From legendary FBI profiler John Douglas and Mark Olshaker -- authors of the nonfiction international bestsellers Mindhunter, Journey into Darkness, and Obsession -- comes an unprecedented, insightful look at the root of all crime.

Every crime is a mystery story with a motive at its heart. With the brilliant insight he brought to his renowned work inside the FBI's elite serial-crime unit, John Douglas pieces together motives behind violent sociopathic behavior. He not only takes us into the darkest recesses of the minds of arsonists, hijackers, bombers, poisoners, assassins, serial killers, and mass murderers, but also the seemingly ordinary people who suddenly kill their families or go on a rampage in the workplace.

Douglas identifies the antisocial personality, showing surprising similarities and differences among various types of deadly offenders. He also tracks the progressive escalation of those criminals' sociopathic behavior. His analysis of such diverse killers as Lee Harvey Oswald, Theodore Kaczynski, and Timothy McVeigh is gripping, but more importantly, helps us learn how to anticipate potential violent behavior before it's too late.Amazon.com Review
What makes people kill? Specifically, what are the motivations behind serial, mass, and spree killings? Drawing from cases such as the mass murder in Dunblane, Scotland, in which a lone gunman mowed down 16 children and their teacher, the still-unsolved Tylenol poisonings, and the Unabomber, former FBI profiler John Douglas and coauthor Mark Olshaker try to explain the unthinkable. What sets The Anatomy of Motive apart from so many of the theories about these horrific acts of violence is that Douglas and Olshaker have no obvious political agenda. They don't look for easy answers and they don't provide easy solutions. They do, however, offer some insight into the twisted kind of thinking that can lead a person to believe that the solution to his problems lies in bloodshed. They also provide some danger signs that may help to identify the potentially violent criminal before he has a chance to act out his morbid fantasies. While The Anatomy of Motive is undeniably horrifying, it is also illuminating, and Douglas and Olshaker approach their topic with grace and insight. --Lisa Higgins ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Anatomy of Motive: The FBI's Legendary Mindhunter Explores the Key to Understanding and Catching Violent Criminals
Book is a bit more worn then I would have liked. But I did knowingly purchase a used book. I did like the quick delivery.Took about two weeks after I purchased it to get it in the mail. Would buy from this seller again in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written and informative
I really enjoyed this.It was a fascinating overview of the types of people who commit serious crimes, and it managed to give interesting accounts without glamorizing the crimes or excusing the criminals.I don't feel like i could go out and be a profiler, but I do think I have a better understanding of what they do and how it can be used. The book had a conversational tone that flowed well, except for some parts where Douglas unexpectedly switched to the present tense. That is probably just a result of writing collaboratively, and it works pretty well. My only beef with this kindle version is that it contains a useless index; the publisher should have removed it, made its items into links, or provided location numbers. As it stands it is a big list, which is irritating. That gripe has nothing to do with the content of the book, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars must read
A must read for anyone who would like to begin to understand the basics behind why people commit crime in general, and specifically serial murder.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific True Crime Novel
This is a fine book along the lines of all previous John Douglas books. It takes a look inside the mind of evil and hate. Douglas tries to make sense of why people do the horrible things people do. He never condones them, he just tries to find out why the acts were committed so that we may prevent them in the future. If you enjoy true crime and the criminal investigation process then I highly recommend all Douglas books (Mindhunter, Journey Into Darkness, and Obsession) If grisly crimes scenes are not your style, and you don't particularly care for true crime then don't bother.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Question Is 'Why?'
What makes a serial killer or a mass murderer or a spree killer (and what's the definition of those three) do what he does?Do these people have similar childhood traits? What is the mindset behind arsonists, kidnappers, and people who poison others?

If you enjoy trying to find out what makes people "tick," especially criminals, this book is filled with fascinating material and answers to the above questions. It's not some psycho-babble, either. Author John Douglas writes in plain English about his theories after spending many years for the FBI profiling social miscreants.

What I found the most interesting were the criminals I wasn't familiar with who were often worse than any famous murderer. Also, the chapter on people who poison - how they do it, and why - was fascinating.Douglas is pretty opinionated and egotistical but that helps make the book all the more iminteresting, along with all the twisted tales of the people he tried to catch. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best anatomy reference
Okay, the disclaimer up front is that I am a college anatomy instructor. I love this book. previously I was using the 39th edition in our school's library, but having it conveniently at my disposal without making a trip to the library has been wonderful.

2 considerations: 1. This particular edition of Gray's Anatomy is from the British Editors and spelling is in the Queen's English (There is also an American version with different editors and "regular" spelling). If you are using the index looking up the esophagus, you will need to know that it is under "O" because the Britts spell it 'oesophagus.' 2. This is a reference book that is very thorough, and therefore very dense. If you have a high school or college student who is interested in Anatomy, I would recommend Netter's illustrated "Atlas of Human Anatomy:" Atlas of Human Anatomy: with Student Consult Access (Netter Basic Science)

5-0 out of 5 stars Exemplary Content!
I was extremely interested in studying anatomy for the sake of studying anatomy.Gray's Anatomy, by far, had the best reputation to do this with. So, I tried the library; however, they only had the 1901 version. Now, that edition has a lot of useful information, but it is geared more towards surgeons.Everyone that wants to learn about anatomy does not always want to be a surgeon!I figured it was 2010, and there, surely, was a current edition with text and images/illustrations for those of us who are mortals!Amazon.com to the rescue!

It took a fair amount of effort and discipline, but reading this contemporary publication of Gray's Anatomy proved to substantiate its reputation. The exemplary content reveals the human body in such a way that it can be understood without confusion.Just for that alone, it is priceless! There is enough information in it for a lifetime worth of study. You definitely will not make a mistake if you buy this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Gray's 40th Edition
The new organization of this former gold standard of anatomy texts makes it a poor idea for people wanting to use an anatomy text for anatomy information. And the on-line info has been designed so that all of the diagrams and drawings are useless, ie. too small to be seen much less uploaded.

5-0 out of 5 stars great
Everything fine, the delivery was fast and the package arrived in good condition. Correspondence was uncomplicated
Thanks a lot!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extensive accurate reference manual
The 'British Gray's,' as it is referred to in the profession, is the ultimate reference for all matters anatomical. This particular edition, the 40th, is unusual because of the use of modern terminology. This terminology was first used in the previous edition and some errors have been corrected here, making it even more authoritative.I do not think that anybody should buy this book for their home, it's a reference book, every public library should have it in the reference section. If you have ANY question about human anatomy the answer will be here, but written in a peculiar British higher-ed language. It is precise and accurate but requires that the reader be willing and capable of putting forth a relatively large amount of effort. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Nearly a total waste
Do you know how to tell if an anatomy book is REALLY bad? When nearly HALF of the book is nothing but TEXT...That being said once you get past 1/2 of the book being utterly useless you move onto the actual ART of the book. All the diagrams are non-photo, pencil sketches. The sketches are fairly decent themselves but this book falls flat from introducing any special poses that an artist will be expected to handle (jumping) (crouching) (stretching) etc...I would give this book ZERO stars if I could, avoid this book and look elsewhere. I know that price tag looks mighty convincing but you get what you pay for (not much).

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect order
I was very impressed to receive the copy of this book in such excellent condition and in a reasonable time. I would certainly recommend this store if you are looking for a used book that's hard to find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, relevant information for figure artists
This book gives detailed explanations about the skeleton, skeletal muscles and human morphology. Don't get rebuked by the illustration's style which was done in about yr 1889 by Paul Richer in indian ink I suppose.

Recent books like 'Strength Training Anatomy by Frederic Delavier' have more polished color illustrations and is very useful as a complement to Mr Richer chef d'oeuvre.

Last century's books about anatomy are usually better than current ones as this difficult subject was given thorough study in universities. It's easy to understand why the older generations were better figure artists!

In this book you'll find what makes up the prominences and bulges under the skin.

What could have been added though is some real photos of the nude to highlight the lights and dark of the human body.

Overall, it's a fantastic book for this price and it deserves its 5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied with Amazon
Everything that I wanted to know about this book was present in the discription; what it looked like, the condition, the cheaper price, everything.I am completely satified with the speed in wich it was delivered and the price with shipping and handling added. This is a book required for my college career and it was cheaper to buy it from this site than to purchase a used and damaged copy from the school. It is not an easy book to find at bookstores and this website provides what I need, in the condition I want, price, and conveinience I love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anatomy & Physiology
Hi Amazon,
I'm so greatful that I found you because the book cost 226 dollars and luckily i hear about you and started to search the book and found it here in Amazon for half the price that the book store was selling it for. Thank you very much. From now on Amazon is my favorite site to search for my books. Once again thank you very much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hardcover... Not in the least!
I ordered: "Human Anatomy & Physiology, 8th Edition [Hardcover]" what I received was a unbound, three-hole punched version of the text. I DID NOT PAY $150+ dollars for this version of the text. I could have driven the hour away to the college to get this version. A complete disappointment. I will not buy from this seller again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrated College Student ....
I ordered the Human A & P, 8th edition text book for class. Upon ordering it it said it was "in stock" so I placed the order along with the expedited shipping because I was in need of it quickly. After placing the order and paying for it I received the email shortly after confirming that everything was processed and it had been shipped WOW that was quick!!! Well WRONG a couple days later I received an email stating that they had made a mistake and infact the book was not in stock and a day later they refunded my money. So again I paid extra for expedited shipping and it took them days later to notify me of them canceling my order and their discrepancy. So I was forced to start at square one again and re-order else where. Only to review the order and look at their things for sale and notice that they had the book still up on their "products for sale" and it be "in stock" WTH ??!?!? Idk I am very disappointed and regret my transaction with them. I just am thankful getting my money back wasnt a hassle, thats about the ONLY good thing in all this.

1-0 out of 5 stars package never recieved, emails never answered.
Worst seller ever. I never recieved my package after 3weeks of waiting. I emailed him constantly & never recieved anything back. Stay away or your gonnna get screwed.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book
This is an awesome book. Could have gone into a little more detail with the bat, seal, ect.I would recommend this to anyone who is doing anatomy or art.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad condtion and bad printing
A friend of mine had this book three years ago and i loved the Quality of illustrations in it. so i ordered it last week. and to my disappointment the book which arrived was in bad condition and the printing was flawed. various white spots were on the drawings.

the content of the book itself is excellent But the printing man and the delivery man spoiled the show.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but there are better options
I got this one hoping it had something more to add to my other anatomy book by Goldfinger. However I found it to be the pricier, but less in-depth option. It covers mostly the horses with other domestic animals and a random lioness thrown in.The lack of other animals is disappointing.I would love to see a bird or a shark in one of these, but so far I'm coming up dry. While the in-depth descriptions of the muscle structures are very well done, there are better, cheaper options out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful animal anatomy
This was text was one my first purchases as a young art student. When I did not have access to live animals, I spent countless hours copying these plates in gesture and blind contour so that anatomy would be burned into my brain. Although I no longer draw, the fierce images of flayed horses still inhabit my dreams and my work.

An essential reference for anyone wishing to understand mammalian structure. The emphasis is on equine anatomy, but there are extensive plates for other mammals including the dog, the lion, the deer, and the cow.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellant resource for an artist.
For $10 you can't go wrong with a reference source like this. My copy is stained and "dog-earred" from use.
Whatever kind of realistic type art you are involved in, you will find resources such as this indispensable.

Product Description
The power of the image of the nude--the expressivity of the flesh--has inspired artists from the beginning. An understanding of human form is essential for artists to be able to express themselves with the figure.Anatomy makes the figure.Human Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form is the definitive analytical work on the anatomy of the human figure.

No longer will working artists have to search high and low to find the information they need.In this, the most up-to-date and fully illustrated guide available, Eliot Goldfinger--sculptor, illustrator, scientific model-maker, and lecturer on anatomy--presents a single, all-inclusive reference to human form, capturing everything artists need in one convenient volume. Five years in the making, and featuring hundreds of photos and illustrations, this guide offers more views of each bone and muscle than any other book ever published: every structure that creates or influences surface form is individually illustrated in clear, carefully lit photographs and meticulous drawings. Informed by the detailed study of both live models and cadavers, it includes numerous unique presentations of surface structures--such as fat pads, veins, and genitalia--and of some muscles never before photographed. In addition, numerous cross sections, made with reference to CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging, and cut cadavers, trace the forms of all body regions and individual muscles. Information on each structure is placed on facing pages for ease of reference, and the attractive two-color format uses red ink to direct readers rapidly to important points and areas. Finally, an invaluable chapter on the artistic development of basic forms shows in a series of sculptures the evolution of the figure, head, and hands from basic axes and volumes to more complex organic shapes. This feature helps place the details of anatomy within the overall context of the figure.

Certain to become the standard reference in the field, Human Anatomy for Artists will be indispensable to artists and art students, as well as art historians. It will also be a useful aid for physical and dance therapists, athletes and their trainers, bodybuilders, and anyone concerned with the external form of the human body. With the renewed interest in figurative art today, this will be an especially welcome volume. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent.
Excellent source for any artist looking for a fine anatomy book. I've studied Bridgman's Constructive Anatomy for years and this is such a refresher. Every muscle is explained in visual and text detail.

It's an essential book for any artist wishing to progress their knowledge in the areas. I would also recommend Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars what you expected
If you need to know where muscles are located, this book is for you.The schematic drawings are great, but artistic drawings with shading are pretty weak, and I would not suggest using them as a reference (e.g skull etc). Also it has cross-sections of the muscles for modelers or sculptors. This is a must-have book for any anatomy student.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad packing
Product was delivered in time, and as ordered. Though it was just packed in a plastic bag.
Considering the cross ocean voyage not the best package meterial I can imagine. Due to this the corners where slightly damaged.

5-0 out of 5 stars In depth, thorough and the best I have seen
I have bought many anatomy books and tutorials now and I really wish I had found this book sooner. Eliot Goldfinger has put a great deal of effort into this book and it really shows. Not only does he go through the bones, proportions and muscles of the human form, he also has many extras that help to understand what exactly is happening underneath the skin. He explores only the muscles that affect the surface but these are done thoroughly. Drawings of the muscles' origins and insertions, the muscles around them and also a photo of the muscle on a model help the reader to get a clear picture of what is occurring beneath the skin. Other extras such as cross sections of the limbs and fat layers just add to the depth of an already great reference. I would recommend this book to anybody who has an interest in art and the human form as it is really the best that I have seen.

Excellent approach to vividly modeling the figure by one of the original artists of "Tarzan". The anatomy is a little vague in parts and the figures are done in a blobby rather than chiseled way, but very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY this book, it will help you with more than just anatomy
This book will help you with more than just your Anatomy course.I am a third year medical student who used this book prior to taking step one and I can honestly say that the questions in this book helped me get at least 15-20 questions correct and ultimately earn a score in the high 250's.There wasn't a single anatomy or embryology question on my board exam that I had not already encountered in this book.In fact there were multiple pathology questions that I was able to answer because I had seen them when going through this q&a style book.
Do not be one of the people who blows off anatomy and embryology. While these sections don't make up a ton of questions on the exam, I believe that dominating them will help separate you from everyone else.
The way this book is laid out is optimal for learning anatomy, embryology, and how to recognize both when given complex clinical scenarios. This book is challenging, but all answers (right or wrong) are thoroughly explained.Make sure to read all answer explanations, right or wrong, as this is where you will learn the most.Going through this book during your anatomy course in preparation for your final exam and again prior to step one will be of great benefit to whomever chooses to do so.Buy this book if you want to do well in these two subjects.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book ROCKS!
I was sick for over a week before a final exam, and I was not able to study nor attend class. For those of you who are medical students, you know this is practically suicide! However, I used this book almost exclusively to prepare for the written section of my exam, and I honestly think it made a difference between me passing and failing. This is a Q & A book, but all of the answers, including the incorrect ones, have detailed explanations. I was therefore able to pick up important concepts as I worked through the problems.I highly recommend purchasing this book.

Book was used, although purchased as 'new' but was in really good shape.DVD was missing from the original book but I was very pleased with speed of delivery from the secondary buyer during peak text book purchasing period.

2-0 out of 5 stars okay book
Cons: This book is not that bad but it doesn't have a very good explaination for anyone who take intro class. I read this book and another book call Essential of Human Anatomy & Physiology by Elaine N. Marieb. The A&P by Elaine is much easier to understand...

Pros: This book is very organized picture & table (not text)

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not get the product
I brought the book but didn't get the book from the seller. I contact the seller, four times and got only one reply back from the seller. He told me "It should be on the way. I apologize for the sloppy service of UPS. I will contact them and in turn you", and it might have been a problem with the ups. The other three email, that I sent to the seller told him that I didn't recieved the book. I'm still didn't hear from the seller, so I contact Amazon. The customser service told me that they'll try to get my money back. I recomented everyone that do not buy your product from this sell Daniel Laurie.

I ordered my book on Friday morning and recieved it Saturday the next day! Great timing and still in the wrapping with a tutorial cd!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book
The book gives a clear, concise, and engaging account of the human body and its systems. It displays information to the reader in a number of different ways, oftentimes breaking down a difficult concept by explaining it in paragraph form, a table, and several drawings. I find this method to be a successful learning tool because different learning styles are accommodated and the reader also has several examples to learn from instead of only one. Also, the illustrations are gorgeous and very helpful. This is a great textbook for an intro-to-medium level college class in A&P, or an advanced text for non-doctors as the material is clearly presented but is also quite detailed. ... Read more

Product Description
Designed to serve as both a clinical manual and an instructional tool, this text covers the sectional anatomy of the entire body in an easy-to-understand, comprehensive format. The user-friendly design of the book presents actual, diagnostic-quality images from both MRI and CT modalities, side-by-side with line drawings to illustrate the planes of anatomy most commonly imaged. Concise explanations describe the location and function of the anatomy, and each image clearly labels all pertinent anatomic structures to aid in location and identification of anatomy during actual clinical examinations. The result is a practical guide that improves the imaging professional's ability to consistently produce the best possible diagnostic images. Instructor resources are available; please contact your Elsevier sales representative for details.

  • Side-by-side presentations of images and line drawings on the same page spread allow the reader to see correlations between line drawings of physical anatomy and actual, diagnostic-quality CT and MR images.
  • Over 1,300 images and detailed line drawings demonstrate sectional anatomy for every plane of the body that is commonly imaged.
  • Pathology boxes briefly describe common pathologies related to the anatomy being discussed to form connections between the scans in the text and common pathologies readers are likely to encounter in practice.
  • Summary tables organize anatomic information for each major muscle group, listing the muscles, points of origin and insertion, and functions.

  • Anatomic maps - line drawings that show the angle and level of each scan - appear with the actual scans, so readers can easily access the proper orientation for scanning and identifying anatomy.
  • 290 new scans, including more 3D and vascular images, demonstrate current technology.
  • A new introductory chapter provides a foundation by teaching the terminology related to sectional anatomy and preparing the reader for more complex content that follows.

The Sectional Anatomy for imaging professionals, is a good text book for the knowledge of all sectional imaging of all the body. Specialty in the area of brain and nervous sistem. When I received the book, the book was in a perfect condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Service
Product was in excellent condition just like the seller said and I received the item in a timely fashion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crossectional anatomy for NONimaging professionals
Using this for a cross sectional anatomy class that is required for my Medical Physics program. It seems to be a decent book so far, only covering what I need. I'm not sure how the "imaging professionals" would view it, but I think it is very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome for CT beginners and pros
Has tons of true to life CT images, great descriptions, easy to follow. Also recommend obtaining the workbook that goes along with it.Together they help the understanding process faster and clearer.Don't even need to attend a class with these books!

2-0 out of 5 stars Caused more frustration than anything
This was the required text for my Sectional Anatomy course, as part of my radiography curriculum.I found the layout of the book disorganized and frustrating.I felt it would have been helpful and appropriate for the text to address the sequencing of CT/MRI images instead of showing a random shot here or there...I suppose that's difficult to do without a multimedia/interactive presentation, but I still had alot of trouble learningvia this text.I found the abbreviated captions virtually useless and ill-concieved.It's one thing if you're tyring to quiz yourself and want a hint, but if you're trying to learn from scratch, it would have made much more sense seeing the long-hand terms written out in the columns so we know what we're looking at.Having to glance down at the caption and search for the abbreviation in question proved very distracting to the learning process. And the written text was...well, not enough text.Instead of offering helpful ways to differentiate and remember the many different body parts and structures, the text follows a very robotic "the A bone connects to the B bone which leads to the C artery and supplies the D organ...".I felt overwhelmed with similar-sounding descriptions and didn't take much away from the learning experience that wasn't lost in days.If I already had an understanding of cross-sectional anatomy before using this text, it may have served as a succinct review, but given the fact it is assigned to first-time X-sectional learners I felt it was too abstract and devoid of personality. If I decide to go into CT or MRI in the future, I plan on selling this book and doing a little research on finding the best and most current text available at the time.I can tell this one won't age well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great beginning guide to understandin Horses....
I'm going to school to learn Massage Therapy and Equine Massage fascinates me because when I was little and even now I've always loved horses. They are beautiful animals and I bought this book to get an early start on understanding anatomy so that I can do an even better job when I actually gear up to take the class. The pictures are well-labeled and I'm excited about the coloring aspect. I'm a visual learner in many cases so the coloring helps a lot. There's also good information spread throughout the book so it's not overwhelming to a new person like me. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about horses for any reason. It's a great way to get started and build on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for equine energy- and bodyworkers

The success of any operative procedure is dependent, in part, on the surgeon’s knowledge of anatomy. From the first incision to closure of the wound, it is essential to understand the fascial layers, blood supply, lymphatic drainage, nerves, muscles and organs relevant to the operative procedure. Surgical Anatomy and Technique: A Pocket Manual covers the anatomic regions pertinent to general surgeons and also describes the most commonly performed general surgical techniques. New to this edition are sections on abdominal aortic aneurysm, femoropopliteal bypass, carotid endarterectomy, hysterectomy and oopherectomy, and the entire book has been updated to reflect current surgical approaches. Medical students and residents will find this book to be an excellent way to prepare for a case, and more experienced surgeons will appreciate the anatomic review and contemporary approaches to common surgical problems.

Product Description
This classic book, whose foremost author was one of the great artistic anatomy teachers of the twentieth century, is an invaluable instructor and reference guide for any professional, amateur, or student artist who depicts the human form. Revealing the drawing principles behind one hundred inspiring masterpieces, the book presents work by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rubens, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, and other greats. These superb portrayers of figures knew that the secret of drawing them was seeing how underlying bone and muscle structures mold the body's surface forms. Readers are shown how to learn from these great examples as the authors guide them through all the steps they would take in a life class or studio working with live models.Amazon.com Review
Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters provides an anatomical counterpart to Robert Beverly Hale's classic reference book, Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters. Terence Coyle, who for several years assisted Hale at the Art Students League of New York, kept detailed notes of Hale's lectures and teaching methods. He combined these notes with 100 drawings to illustrate how the great masters portrayed specific parts of the human physique. As Hale points out, master artists such as Rembrandt, Leonardo, and Raphael "absorbed the technical details of anatomy so well that these details could be set down instinctively.... If an artist has to occupy his mind with the task of clumsily grouping the elemental facts of anatomy as he draws, there can be little room left for really important matters--such as the spirit of the drawing and the artist's expressive intent." Coyle provides several examples within the study of each anatomical area to illustrate the variety of styles and methods employed by the masters. The book treats, in order, the rib cage, the pelvis and thigh, the knee and lower leg, the foot, the shoulder girdle, the arm, the hand, and the neck and head. A complete series of anatomical reference plates by Dr. Paul Richer is included. By applying the timeless anatomical principles the great masters have handed down to us, any artist can begin to acquire the means by which to express the "really important matters." --Mary Ribesky ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Muscles and tendons to bone structures
The book is very charming and it has some good points. The overall assessment is not 5 stars because, the work chosen is not always first rate. The artists chosen ARE first rate but better drawings could have been analyzed occasionally. This is a problem with most Old Master Drawing books, it's not enough to have a Rembrandt, there are good and better Rembrandt drawings! Choose the better ones.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lacks the insight compared to Drawing Lessons
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1N2RCGG51GEYA Anatomy Lessons From The Great Masters is the sequel, sort of, to Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters (Practical Art Books). Again, 100 pieces of drawings from great masters are selected for analysing.

Compared to Drawing Lesson, this book is much more straightforward. The book is really like an anatomy reference which points you the parts of the body to look for. This pointing and labeling of parts isn't really called analyzing. It lacks the insight that goes into the creative process of these art masters. By comparison Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters really explores the thought process that goes into creating art.

While there are the usual anatomical reference drawings at the back, showing the bones and muscles from from and back views, it's not as comprehensive as other anatomy reference books.

The good thing about this book is of course the figure drawings. Most of them are sketches. It's really inspirational to look at the drawings created around the 15 century by artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rubens, Raphael, and other masters.

This book is not really an essential buy unless you're buying for the drawings.

I prefer Joseph Sheppard's Drawing the Living Figure which features a similar teaching style and has beautiful life drawings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Antamoy References
I will just say that this is very helpful for reference to specific part of the human anatomy. Especially the skeletal and muscular diagrams at the back of the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book

5-0 out of 5 stars Practice practice practice
I took an art class at the junior college and the instructor suggested copying the masters to improve drawing skills.I bought this book and copied every picture. Not only did it familiarize me with many artists I had not heard of but, over time my drawing skills improved dramatically.I am now buying collections of drawings of other artists and copying.I highly recommend the book not only as a reference but also to be used to improve skills.I have an engineering background, not art and this helped immensely. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Purchased New - Received Used
The review I'm writing is based on the shipping, not the quality of the material in the book. I payed for a new book and received one that looks used. The front cover of the book has multiple creases across the front of it, along with superficial scratches at the bottom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Christina Denton
This book was assigned for a novel-writing class, and it does teach one to write a story, irrespective of form. However the author's examples are nearly all from the screen, and his bias is visual action. For most stories these days, this isn't a special handicap, because my impressions are that most stories are told visually these days. Most readers are visuals. All movies are a visual experience. But if you were going to write something that depends more on mood or the internal gymnastics of choice, decision, anguish or whatever, this approach isn't a lot of help.

1-0 out of 5 stars very disappointed w/ this flimsy paperback

5-0 out of 5 stars The Anatomy of Story: 22 Steps to Becoming a Master Storyteller

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Anatomy Book
This book was required for a class I am taking.Compared to many other anatomy books, this one is actually relatively readable. It is also a very nice book in terms of quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Splendid splendor
This was the assigned textbook for my human structure and performance class. The material is a great in-depth look for students in the pursuing a degree in kinesiology. It's filled with anatomical model pictures and goes into detail with many physiological subjects. It is more specifically tuned to said students than your normal Anatomy book (Marieb, etc.)

However, do not purchase the international version. I was duped by an online seller advertising this hardbound book, but to my dismay, I received the shoddy paperback version. Pages have already initiated their escape from the grasps of the inferior binding.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
As an adult beginner I found this book to be a helpful tool. It has very detailed and helpful information along with understandable imagery of the dancer's anatomy. This is very helpful in training and developing technique. I found the saftey tips on how to prevent injuries very useful! Most definately agree this book should be owned by every dancer young and old!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource
This is an excellent resource for dancers and dance teachers. The illustrations are clear and help students see what I am talking about, so they can visualize the muscle action when they are performing movement. The information is dance-specific and not overwhelming for students. This is a very practical and much needed resource.I've already recommended this book to several dancers, dance teachers, and physical therapists.I will require this text for my experiential anatomy course in the fall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dance Anatomy
A great book for students of dance who want to understand which muscles are used during dance movements.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for both dancers & allied health care providers in the performing arts. A visual masterpiece.
Jacqui has done an amazing job of speaking the language of the dancer. She uses anatomical references in a way that relates to both performing artists and the clinicians who are caring for them.
The illustrations are excellent and key to the clear description of muscle action and movement patterns.
This book is a great way to educate the dancer and is also a great tool to use to educate students who are pursuing a career in performing arts medicine.
As a dancer what I liked best about "Dance Anatomy" was the practical application of the examples given.
As an athletic trainer what I liked best about "Dance Anatomy" was the clear descriptions of exercises commonly used by performing arts medcicine professionals but rarely defined well.
Outstanding book, and long overdue!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed how I teach "Dance Kinesiology"
When I found out that Jacqui Haas was writing this book, I was so excited that I convinced my Human Kinetics rep to give me a PDF copy because the book hadn't been published yet. Upon reviewing it, I immediately adopted it as the text for my undergraduate course in Dance Kinesiology. Our university got some of the first ones off the press.

I wanted to change textbooks for my course because students needed something more accessible and practical. This book is definitely it. I actually altered how I teach my course in order to incorporate the various exercises that Jacqui offers. In addition, I teach under the quarter system (rather than the semester system), so I have a very limited amount of time to communicate a lot of information. "Dance Anatomy" has been extremely helpful in helping me set a more achievable framework for this.

For an undergraduate, science-based class like Dance Kinesiology, I prefer some extra anatomy content. I can easily add this into my teaching sessions from the outstanding foundation Jacqui lays in "Dance Anatomy." My students have gladly received the book, and are encouraged by its straightforward, readable approach.

As a scientist working with artists, I find that this text is ideal for my artistic students, many of whom are new to grappling with science. As is typical of Human Kinetics' books, the illustrations in "Dance Anatomy" are outstanding, and this helps students visualize the anatomy that makes them move. The book celebrates both the amazing design of the human body and the equally amazing ability of the body's anatomy to bring forth the beauty and athletic artistry of dance. While appropriate for a wide audience, the book will be especially useful for dancers from high school age upward, dance teachers, and instructors of undergraduate Dance Kinesiology classes.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't say enough good things about this book!
Although this book is written for the health professional, it is a fantastic resource for the Pilates beginner as well. The text is well organized, thorough, clear and easy to understand. The illustrations of how to do the individual exercises are some of the most helpful I have seen in an exercise book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful!
