Product Description
Is the nephrology community facilitating excess cardiovascular deaths in patients with kidney failure and anemia by treating to a subnormal hematocrit? Why have clinicians and nephrologists permitted health insurance companies and the government to decide when anemia therapy should begin in persons with progressive kidney failure? Is iron the only variable that can be manipulated to maximize response to recombinant erythropoietin? Are we using too much intravenous iron in kidney failure patients, and is oral iron supplementation worthless in sustaining iron stores during long-term erythropoietin treatment? When does left ventricular hypertrophy begin to emerge in patients with progressive renal disease and is there convincing evidence that anemia is a significant cause of LVH in this setting? Is darbepoetin alfa, a new novel, long-acting erythropoietin, really superior to recombinant erythropoietin? This book is a compilation of proceedings from a conference in Brooklyn convened to address these and other controversial and unresolved issues in renal anemia management. ... Read more

All I can say is that this book was a true honor and pleasure to read.I'm not a big reader (shame on me), but can honestly say.... I couldn't put this book down for a second. When I had to put the book down, I couldn't wait until the next day to read what would happen next.Never a dull moment, from one chapter to the next. What an amazing story! And to think it is all a true. This is what makes the book so amazing!

"Who Said I Can't" is not only well written, but brings out every emotion you could possibly feel.I felt like I was with the author through every chapter of the book.It was that well written. This book truly bought out every emotion I have ever felt in my life!Joy, pain, sorry, anxiety, fear, triumphs, tribulations, love, hatred, accomplishments and more. After reading this book, it honestly made me evaluate my own personal experiences in life. This book has touched and inspired me in so many ways.

P.S.This book would be a great move for TV!!!!At times I felt I was watching the movie "Goodfellas" and other times I felt I was watching "Highway to Heaven".

5-0 out of 5 stars A remarkable story
Who Said I Can't? is a remarkable story of love, faith, and resilience.A brother and sister's love and care and intelligence and choices offer hope amidst dark times and challenges in family life where chromic illness is a constant presence.Their stories are a reflection of The Hero's Journeyas it ripples throughout ordinary lives and transforms those who heed it's call.I think this is a story that would do well on a big screen

Product Description
Thanks to scientific advances, individuals with thalassemia—a group of genetic blood disorders which includes Cooley's Anemia — are now living into their 40's and 50's. Not only are individuals living longer, but their quality of life has increased. Scientific and clinical advancements have resulted in new iron-chelating drugs, early detection of organ failure, an understanding of adult complications associated with living with thalassemia (osteoporosis, heart failure, growth hormone deficiency, pulmonary hypertension, and infertility) and promising progress towards the ultimate magic bullet—a cure in the form of bone marrow and cord blood transplants, or gene therapy.

This volume integrates basic science and clinical research so that both scientists and clinicians can develop a mutual understanding of recent progress in thalassemia.
