Product Description
In a time unlike any other, a family you’ll never forget . . . Meet the Huxtables—three headstrong sisters and their dashing brother—each searching for love that’s always a shocking indiscretion away. . . . In her magnificent new novel, New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh sweeps us into a world of scandal and intrigue—glittering Regency England—and introduces the youngest Huxtable: Stephen, the only son. Here Stephen will risk his reputation and his heart as he enters a scandalous liaison with the infamous beauty intent on seduction. But when passion turns the tables on them both, who can say who has seduced whom?

He must be wealthy, wellborn, and want her more than he wants any other woman. Those are the conditions that must be met by the man Cassandra Belmont chooses for her lover. Marriage is out of the question for the destitute widow who stands accused of murdering her husband and must now barter her beauty in order to survive. With seduction in mind, she sets her sights on Stephen Huxtable, the irresistibly attractive Earl of Merton and London’s most eligible bachelor. But Stephen’s first intriguing glimpse of the mysterious, alluring Lady Paget convinces him that he has found the ideal woman to share his bed. There is only one caveat. This relationship fueled by mutual pleasure must be on his terms.

As the two warily circle each other in a sensual dance of attack and retreat, a single night of passion alters all the rules. Cassandra, whose reputation is already in tatters, is now in danger of losing the one thing she vowed never to give. And Stephen, who wants Cassandra more than he has ever wanted any woman, won’t rest until she has surrendered everything—not as his mistress—but as his lover and wife. . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars Series' plots weaving back together
(this book was for another, and this is what she thinks) This continues the Huxtable family story, being the fourth of the five books. It is well written and ties the first three together in a good timeline.Cassandra is a desperate window with problems and a plan. The story is very quick paced and intriguing. An added bonus are the updates for the major characters of the other books, because romances don't happen in isolation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Find your copy at the library
This book is simply so-so.Balogh is really focusing on bringing her heroines into a more independent light, and I personally don't like it. This book is no exception.Yet again, the heroine seems destitute and throughout the book she begins to grow a spine. But as she develops independence and self-awarenes, the relationship (to me) suffers. The book suddenly becomes more about how the heroine can stand on her own, overcome her past, and attain freedom rather than about her love for the hero and what happiness that future would hold for her.I don't understand why so many of Balogh's heroines of late seem to have the conundrum of love vs. freedom.I guess it's my domestic, brain-washed self that sees that being more a male stigma than a lady's (especially in the regency era!). The whole Huxtable series, to me, is rather bland. And, sadly I'm simply going to stop reading Balogh until she writes something with the earth-shattering connection between two characters rather than two characters who think that "maybe this could work" in the last couple chapters of the book.

Thank goodness I got this from the library. You should too, and if you like it then you can shell out the money. But make sure it's worth it first.

On a side note, I am so tired of her overuse of italics.Enough already.

5-0 out of 5 stars ROMANCE
Mary continues the tale of the Huxtable's and their paths to love. This time Stephen, Earl of Merton, takes the tumble.A notorius widow and the Earl???Read this latest addition to the saga.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Continuity; People are Too Stupid to Live (TSTL)
The premise on the back cover sounds fun: a woman in desperate financial straights decides to become a mistress. The implementation is appallingly poor. The leading man struck me as a wimp and a push-over. The book reads like a rough draft. Here are some examples of the poor continuity and people who are TSTL. A word of warning:this list includes some spoilers.

(1) Lord P-- commits suicide in a room with four witnesses (his wife Lady P--, his younger son W--, a servant M--, and Lady P--'s companion A--) by shooting himself in the chest. People look at Lord P--'s corpse and conclude that that his wife murdered him by hitting him in the head with an axe, and yet they do not call the constable. None of the witnesses say anything that would contradict the "murdered by his wife with an axe" story.
(2) Lord P--'s eldest son, G--, likewise believes the "murderd by his wife with an axe" story. He doesn'ttalk to the witnesses (including his brother, who may or may not have attended the funeral). G-- is appalled that Lady P-- got away with murder but likewise doesn't call the constable like a sensible person would..instead he forces her to agree to give up her jewelry, income, and houses. Lady P-- agrees to this because the constable and judges in her world are so TSTL that she is convinced they would look at the evidence, talk to the witnesses, and find her guilty.
(3) M-- is an unmarried mom with a small child for the majority of the book. Toward the end, she is suddenly married, to W--, and has been since before Lord P--'s death. No explanation is given; this appears to simply be bad continuity. If you accept the "married" assumption, then none of M--'s or W--'s actions throughout the book make any sense whatsoever.
(4) W-- vanishes into thin air immediately following his father's death, then appears toward the end of the book "returning from Canada". No one thinks it odd that he abandoned his wife and small child to starve. No one thinks it odd that neither W-- nor M-- mentioned that they were married.
(5) When W-- says that Lord P-- had committed suicide, and everyone (including G--) immediately believes him. G-- does not think it strange that W-- failed to mention this earlier.
(6) When lady P-- is thrown into the street with no means of support, she rents an expensive house (fully furnished) in London, taking A-- and M-- with her. Lady P-- at that point has enough money for a down payment, and to live comfortably for quite some time. All three women are supposedly going to "search for jobs", but this apparently does not include a M-- looking for another job as a servant (her previous job) nor A-- looking for a job as a companion/governess (her previous job); and no explanation is given why accused murderer Lady P-- thinks that someone would hire her for a prestigous job that could pay for the fancy town house.
(7) The first thing Lady P-- does in the novel is to go to a fancy ball, being held by Lord S--.Lord S-- has a scandelous past that he is trying to convince people to forget for the sake of his new wife. So when accused murderer Lady P-- shows up uninvited, Lord S-- dances with her, thus further tarnishing his reputation.
(8) Lady P-- and her soon to be lover Earl M-- openly leave the ball together in his coach (no chaperone), go to her house, and spend the night. Earl M-- leaves in the morning well past the point when many neighbors and servants are up and about. Despite this and other obvious behavior, no one in London notices that Lady P-- is Earl M--'s mistress.
(9) Lord P-- beats Lady P-- so badly that she miscarries all four of her pregnancies. Yet when she hears a woman scream in the same room as Lord P--, Lady P-- runs toward the room.
(10) When Lord P-- finds out that his son W-- married a servant (M--), he is so upset that he tries to murder either M-- or W-- (unclear to me). When W-- blocks the shot, Lord P-- commits suicide. This makes no sense, and no reason is ever given.

Save your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book and the series!
It takes a lot to hook me on an author. And for me to read all books in a series rarely happens. But I loved all four of the books in this series. In fact I read them all in a week's time.

I enjoyed this book immensely. The author has a knack for creating characters that are so real that you feel like you know them. And even better, you like them.

I strongly recommend Seducing an Angel and the other three books in the series. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too facile
I didn't care for the way they wrapped up this story arc -- very disappointing and too facile.MAJOR SPOILER ALERT:

At the end, Angel gets himself killed so that the entire storyline so far can be negated.Poof! All is well -- no more Gunn as vampire (didn't see that one coming), Angel as human, Spike as harem-leader, Connor skewered.... just revert back in time and you don't have to deal with the consequences of the storyline you've put the characters and readers through, except for the memories. It did make it seem like Gunn's visions had some truth to them - just not the way he envisioned.

I don't believe that Wesley and Fred are really gone, either.

Artwork was amazing, and I like the way they've maintained the characters' personalities.I was just really disappointed at the way they wrapped this up.(no, I don't have a better idea, I just had that "gypped" feeling after reading the last page.)

Hope the next book is better -- I bought it already.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but some might not like the ending

The writing is strong, but the art isn't always clear enough to adequately convey the story to the reader. The supplemental materials in the volume go a long way towards rectifying that.

This volume is essentially a conclusion to the storyline. Some may not like how it ends, but I found it satisfactory.

In spite of these criticisms, would recommend highly to any fan.

WARNING--Volume 5 is nothing like the previous 4 volumes. Beware. Volume 6 continues nicely in the tradition set by volumes 1-4. At this time, I am unable to comment past the Volume 6 stories.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you really must know how it was supposed to turn out, buy this one and skip the preceding 4+1 parts
This is an overpriced, short, poorly written, obnoxious, self-indulgent means of delivering the plot point that would have taken 20 minutes in an episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Review
I was waiting for this book! It was in great shape and at a terrific price. Thank you, Amazon!

I don't want to waste your time since the other reviews say much, but I want to reiterate that this Angel series is AWESOME...

Let's hear it for the writing, and let's be glad we even have these little gems.....

Thanks Joss Whedon, and all the others... thanks so much!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reading for boys (and their moms) who like adventure!
My son (age 10) found this book in the school library and couldn't put it down.I read it too.Of course it was a little (a lot?) farfetched, but we are hooked and are now reading the other books, in the proper order.Alex is a likeable character and one that most pre-teen/early teen boys can imagine being like. There's more violence than I would like but it's that kind of book, and it's something many boys this age seem to enjoy.

As a bonus, the Alex Rider books count for several points in the reading program at school.

5-0 out of 5 stars alex is back
great book. whoever said this book was bad is stupid. although it isnt the best installment to th series it isnt the worst

4-0 out of 5 stars OK 6th Installment
Ark Angel does not compare to the awesomeness that the 5 previous Alex Rider installments have. While the idea--an evil Russian multibillionaire planning to send thousands of tons of steel hurtling down to earth by exploding his own space hotel--was grand, the rest just wasn't very good. Mr. Horowitz didn't do his miraculous plot a whole lot of good. I do, however, highly recommend the other books. Here are their ratings:
STORMBREAKER: 4 1/2 STARS
POINT BLANK: 4 1/2 STARS
SKELETON KEY: 5 STARS
EAGLE STRIKE: 5 STARS
SCORPIA: 4 1/2 STARS
ARK ANGEL: 4 STARS
SNAKEHEAD: 4 1/2 STARS
CROCODILE TEARS: N/A

5-0 out of 5 stars Dowhill at the next book
Enjoy this book while you can. From here the Alex Rider series goes downhill, and fast. This is a very good book, I even think it was better than Scorpia although, Scorpia's ending was simply fantastic. At the next book "Snakehead" I felt he was starting to lose his touch with this series, it certaintly wasn't as good as this, or Scorpia or the earlier books. And to be honest, Crocodile Tears was simply HORRIBLE compared to the rest of the books. Happy reading, the series goes downhill from here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alex is back!
Readers who just picked this book up out of the blue, put it back down and start the beginning of the series. In "Ark Angel", Alex Rider is recovering from a bullet shot that nearly hit his heart. He encounters the son of... let's just say a rich father. Alex saves the boy's life, and he automatically receives an award for his deed - staying at the castle of the rich father. This millionaire has launched Ark Angel, the first ever hotel in space. But what if his intentions aren't all they turn out to be?

3-0 out of 5 stars Not up to par with Serrly Wood's usual quality
While I have enjoyed several of Sherrly Woods' books, I did not think this was one of her better efforts. While the premise was promising and the setting in small town Wyoming could have allowed for a variety of interesting characters/events, the main characters of the novel fell flat. The characters were one-dimensional, and the ending (especially Todd's sudden reconciliation with his father and Heather's sudden ability to produce a broadway-quality play in middle of nowhere Wyoming) were contrived. The smaller characters such as Henrietta, Sissy, and the Judge were colorful and enjoyable, but the main plot line I found dissappointingly flat, contrived, and unimaginative.

4-0 out of 5 stars great story and good reading but.......
didn't anyone find the ending a little wierd?

don't want to give it away but those who read it, don't you feel it was a little crazy?

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it in 1 day!
I found this book in a big box at a garage sale and paid a quarter for it. I came home and began to read it, not able to put it down, I finished it very early in the morning! I really loved the quick pace and snapping writing. My husband was amused to see me laughing while I read, especially since I had just been complaining about 3 other books I also bought and just knew I could not read after the first few paragraphs. I don't have the time or patience to try to figure out what author's, with too much time on their hands, are trying to say as they over-describe objects with obscure comparison. Sherryl Woods just found a new fan, I'm already thinking about which of her books to read next! The actual story was not as addictive as her style of writing, clear, fast-paced and very entertaining!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another visit to the community of Whispering Wind
In a grocery store in New York City, Heather Reed gazes at her wailing child and realizes, after three years, that she can no longer accept theextraordinary responsibility of single parenthood. As she tells herirrepressible daughter, Angelique, they are going to find her father. Theirsearch leads them to Whispering Wind, Wyoming where an unsuspecting ToddWinston now resides. Todd has been promoted to producer of "Megan'sWorld", a successful home fashions network. After relocating from NewYork, Todd has just about accepted Whispering Wind as his home though heindulges himself with frequent trips back to the city. He's a man who isdetailed, organized, and basically a control freak due to a tragic accidentwhich took place when he was seventeen years old.

From the time of theirreunion, Todd and Heather find themselves still strongly attracted to eachother and marginally as much friends as they used to be. But Todd finds ithard to look at Angel and not remember his consuming sense of guilt. Asense of guilt that was hammered home years ago by his father. He is afraidthat being in contact with any child below the age of four will result inthat child's death due to his irresponsibility.

Sherryl Woods hascreated a wonderful, if fictional, community. Whispering Wind is full ofcolorful and supportive characters. Todd and Heather are both helped alongby friends and help their friends in turn. The author fully illustrates thefact that this is a close-knit community. The narrative style is light andengaging and makes for a good and easy read. I gradually came to like Toddand Heather but would have liked more access into their internal thoughtsthan was allowed. A prime example: if I had known what was behind his fearof caring for babies, I would have been able to understand and evensympathize with his harsh treatment of Heather and Angel at times. As itwas, I did enjoy the story overall and loved revisiting the community I wasdrawn to in the prequel. And in the end, I was glad to experience andbelieve in Todd, Heather, and Angel's happy ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read!
After finally admitting to herself that she cannot raise her daughter, Angel, alone anymore, Heather Reed, a waitress/actress in New York, decides she needs help in raising her....mainly the help of her daughter's father,Todd.

Finally getting used to living in Whispering Wind, Wyomingafter having spent most of his life in New York, Todd Winston, a formerBroadway actor turned executive producer to media mogul Megan O'Rourke ofMegan's World Productions, is shocked when Heather shows up one day inWhispering Wind. Having tracked him down, Todd is in for a double shockerwhen Heather informs him he's the father of Angel, the daughter he neverknew he had.

But a family secret from years ago leaves Todd with a"No kids, ever" outlook and he instantly rejects Angel, offeringHeather money to take his child and go back to New York. Heather knows he'skeeping something from her so she refuses his money and takes a job as awaitress at the local diner giving Todd time to deal with the fact thathe's a father and to wait for Todd to open up about his reasons for notwanting Angel in his life.

But Todd never reckoned on Angel makingher way into his heart with her own special magic and it's not untilHeather does something drastic that Todd finds out his life has changedforever and that it would never be the same without Heather and Angel init.

Watching how Heather and Todd reacted to one another waswonderful and seeing Angel blossom under the attention of Todd and thoseall around her made me smile. If you've read AFTER TEX, you'll be seeing afew familiar faces and you'll feel like you're visiting old friends. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong continuation of the series, recommended

The writing is strong, but the art isn't always clear enough to adequately convey the story to the reader. The supplemental materials in the volume go a long way towards rectifying that.

In spite of these criticisms, would recommend highly to any fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great follow-up.
The series just keeps getting better. Not really sure if they could ever have done a season like this on television and perhaps that's the silver lining of the series being continued in ink. Fantastic art and story and a must-buy for any fan of Angel.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANGEL-Aftermath
And I thought they would all just die. Still, for some of the crew, maybe Death would have been better. I cried at Wesley's death scene, in the final TV episode, and after reading the first 3 volumes of Angel: After the Fall, my heart is breaking again for the Fates of some of the crew, and the rest of me is fascinated by the depths of this ongoing saga. I will keep reading about Angel's (& Buffy's aftermaths) it's just to hard not to know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well done, Angel fans rejoice
If you love Angel, you will enjoy these graphic novels.I was angry with the way the tv series was ended, feeling that it was never finished properly.Brian Lynch and company have gone above and beyond, definitely redeeming Whedon's ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hell Gets Interesting...
Let me just start off this review by saying you MUST get this if your an angel fan, this is finally the volume where we see what happens with a bunch of different story lines and it definately makes for some very interesting scenes. Theres also a return of a familiar face that i was very happy with and the cliffhanger at the end is great as well. I also prefer David Messina's art more than Urru's and while some of it wasnt that best you can definately see how well he draws each of the characters faces.

In summary, a great addition to the After The Fall arc and i can't for volume 4! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very healing and de stressing
This cd helped me when I was going through a very difficult divorce. At the time I was so stressed out my stomach always hurt. I listed to the cd as I was going to sleep. In the middle of the night it felt like someone had stuck a straw in my stomach and pulled out all the negative forces in me. I know it sounds cooky but it is true. From that point forward it was like not my problems felt a million miles away from me. I use it to destress quite often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing with the Angels
This is a wonderful, easy to understand book on how to communicate with angels. I am trying to get it on everyone's bookshelf - it is top on my gift list!

5-0 out of 5 stars It works....and quickly. We just need to ask
This book is amazing.I read the introduction which had info on Archangel Raphael - The Supremem Healer Among Angels. As I was reading it I instantly thought of my mom who lives across the country from me and is suffering from some intense pain caused from working so hard to raise her three girls alone. She made so many sacrifices for us and I simply asked Archangel Raphael to be by my moms side and comfort her.Because of free will the person needs to ask for help but we can send angels to the sides of our loved ones. The very next day she called me so elated that she was pain free. She said that she needs at least 8 hours of sleep a night for the pain to be gone.I giggled and explained that the night before I had asked Raphael to be by her side.I love it!!!

This book has so many prayers to help specific issues that we all face.It is all in one book.I purchased this book for my mom as well. It's a great gift for everyone. Thanks Doreen for sharing this amazing book with us!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant, But Not My Fav
This was a pleasure read, so this won't be a full review. I've been jumping around in this series with no difficulty, so you should have no trouble if you don't read them in order, they stand alone. I love the setting for these books, and have grown to love the people. This book was no exception, however I did feel like this book revolved around the town more than the hero and heroine, especially toward the end. Still a pleasant read nonetheless. Writers must always be careful of a secret baby/child plot, but I feel she pulled it off. Recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars I felt like I was reading a relationship primer for teens.
I'd never read Robyn Carr's books before and so picked up two at my library:TEMPTATION RIDGE and this one, ANGEL'S PEAK.I read them in chronological order. If I had started with ANGEL'S PEAK I would not have bothered to pick up TEMPTATION RIDGE.In other words, TR was a fairly good read, although all those wonderful, good-looking, wholesome people to be found in one small place with a population under 1000 was fairly amazing to me.And all those hunky ex-military guys finding their one-true-love who manages to be caring, intelligent and hot at the same time. But it was my first taste of a R. Carr book so I enjoyed it for what it was. Then I read this one.OMG, everything that was slightly cloying and annoying about TR became unbearable for me in ANGEL'S PEAK.The writing was quite heavy-handed and pedantic and the story a big bore.I guess at my age I'm not looking for someone to be instructing me on relationships and sex.In addition, I like my characters in books to be more complex and interesting and have more flaws. It seems the only flaw the men have is that they have slept around too much before finding THE ONE and the women apparently have some trauma in their past caused by some non-Virgin-River guy who was no good. And the conception and gestation and birthing of babies got to me after a while. And would somebody please please explain to me how 3-year-old Rosie's ability to pronounce the R sound was so inconsistent? She calls herself Wide Iwish Rose.Shouldn't that be Wide Iwish Wose?

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring
This is the first and LAST Robyn Carr book I have read.Maybe if I had read the series from the beginning it would have been better, but I think not.The main thought I had was "this is just another Debbie Macomber Cedar Cove series - just set in Virgin River.AND Ms. Carr lacks Macomber's writing talent.

4-0 out of 5 stars A story with richness and depth
Originally posted at [...]

Angel's Peak, the second volume in Robin Carr's Virgin River series, is a story consisting of multiple characters, interconnected and intersecting paths, and subplots. Although the blurb indicates you are taking the journey of Sean and Franci -- a couple who parted bitterly four-years before, yet are serendipitously reunited -- there are several other romances, conflicts, and stories that take place.

The beginning of Angel's Peak is as promised, and we are introduced to Franci and Sean. Sean is in a bar, desperate to get away from his newlywed brother and sister-in-law, when he sees his former flame stroll through the door with friends. When Franci gave him an ultimatum to start a life together consisting of a marriage, family, and children, Sean all but showed her the door. He was happy with the way things were and didn't need a piece of paper to declare his commitment. After seeing her again, however, he knows he made a huge mistake.

Deciding to try and rectify the situation, Sean waits for Franci outside the bar in an attempt to talk to her. It doesn't go well, but he isn't willing to take no for an answer. As he becomes more insistent, demanding an explanation for her refusal to so much as speak to him, the truth is revealed; Franci was already several months pregnant with their child when she put him on the spot and, upon his admission he never wanted children, fled from him in an effort to give her child love and not the resentment that would arise from married parents bound to one another through obligation.

As Sean struggles to come to terms with what he's lost, yet inadvertently gained, he knows he has to make things right with Franci, ensure she realizes he's changed, and persuade her to give him a chance to prove they can be so very happy together.

From this point forward, the story branches into multiple stories that are connected via the characters with a relation, friendship, or interest in one another. You get snippets from Franci's mother, Vivian, Sean's mother, Maureen, as well as his brothers and their spouses. There are also portions dedicated to the couple from the first book (which admittedly, I have not read), as well as local residents who are prominent in the community. It's a very large roster of characters, yet instead of becoming the supporting cast, they are given (and take up as much, if not more) page time than the hero and heroine.

Unfortunately, while I enjoy a story with richness and depth, I found the multiples points of view distracting. As this was Sean and Franci's story, I wanted to know more about them, their relationship, their feelings, what it was like to try and start all over again. I wanted to experience what they were going through, where they were with things, how they were going to cope with the very real possibility that soon Sean would be deployed overseas. Yes, portions of this are present, but for me there just wasn't enough to invest in these two characters in particular. Instead, the points of view shift from one story to the next, and just when you settle in, you're taking a different journey in someone else's shoes.

There are positive things to be said, however, especially in regard to the writing style, dialogue, and scenes that make your heart clench and your stomach knot. When Ms. Carr decides to bring on the emotion, she goes for the throat. I loved the scenes with Sean, Franci, and Rosie, and couldn't wait for them to come together as a family. I also enjoyed the scenes with Noah and Ellie, as well as those between Sean and his brothers. There is humor, there is pain, and there is hope, which are essential elements in any fantastic story.

Those who love elements of romance, a bit of tension, and a large cast of characters will enjoy Angel's Peak. There is quite a following in this series and I'm certain the fans of the first offering will not be disappointed.

Angel's Peak by Robyn Carr gives us another warm and sizzling story from Virgin River. As with each book in this delightful series we re-visit some characters from previous storylines and are introduced to new ones.

From the back cover:

Sean has settled down in spite of himself - he's not the cocky young fighter pilot he was when Franci left, and he wants them to try again. After all, they have a history...but that's not all they share.

Franci's secret reason for walking away when Sean refused to commit is now three and a half; a redheaded cherub named Rosie who shares her daddy's emerald-green eyes. Sean is stunned - and furious with Franci for the deception.

News travels fast in Virgin River, and soon the whole town is taking sides. Rebuilding their trust could take a small miracle - and the kind of love that can move mountains.

In her usual manner Robyn Carr weaves a tale with characters that are believable and lovable. I was at first surprised at the `hidden child' plot that began this novel. What I liked was the way Robyn addressed the issues as seen from both sides of the coin.

There is a theme to this book about trust and faith, not only in the relationship between Sean and Franci but in the budding self-discovery of Sean's mother, a strict Catholic who is certain she is too old to ever find a romantic relationship again.

Robyn brought back one of my favorite characters from Hidden Falls, George Davenport who is immediately attracted to Sean's mother Maureen. George is a charming character and you just know that the future he has planned for them both will be full of adventure.

Without giving away too much of the plot, what I enjoyed most was the way these two families pulled together to help this young couple find their way to becoming a family.

The romantic scenes in this book are certainly....compelling to say the least. They rank right up there in the "is it getting warm in here or am I having a hot flash" category. I would recommend Angel's Peak as a great read and a good adventure.

Beautiful cards and so worth the price! They are really good for beginners or even more experienced angel card readers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Research or Revelation
I initially purchased this deck of Angel cards for research purposes since a friend had given my daughter a set and she wouldn't let me 'borrow' her cards for any length of time.I found the artwork very appealing, calming just to look through the different faces a few artists project as "angelic".I also tried asking the Angels some questions as described in the accompanying handbook, and I was pleasantly surprised with good advice and significant revelations for myself and others.

If you are lead to purchase a deck of angel cards you will enjoy them immensely. The angels are our friends and are here to help us on our journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Beginners
This deck was recommended to me as a beginner. It has been a huge blessing and accurate. I was excited to find an angel named Yvonne in the deck. (She connects with animals as I do.) I do readings for self, as well as for family and friends. I prefer to do the looking ahead spread (in 3-month increments). I also prefer to do the intuitive card spread from Healing with the Angels deck at the same time (in 3-month increments). The two together paint a clearer picture . . . so amazing! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Read!
I love what is commonly called young adult sci-fi/fantasy fiction. This book was a delight to find.Intriguing, it kept me reading till the very end.A new twist on teen angst; young love and other worldly good and bad guys.Take an outcast teen, mix in a mysterious past, wild biological changes a nosy reporter and rumors of angels and you've got yourself a winning read.

4-0 out of 5 stars This isn't your typical angel book!
Raea wakes up in a lot of pain to discover she has wings. Her mother, who died when she was very young, left her a pendant which really isn't a pendant, and the boy at school who she thought was weird, turns out to be her soulmate.I am so glad that I've been taking risks on unknown books and unknown authors. Not only am I getting these hidden gems, but I'm getting them for an unbelieveably low price to read on my Kindle. This is one of those books. It was recommended by Amazon to read because of previous purchases, and with the price I paid, I would have gladly paid full price for this book. It was an interesting twist on "angels" and what they "really" are.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sadly, lacks execution
I enjoy all types of books whether for young adults or older readers. This novel however, is not something I would recommend. The plot was incredibly obvious, the heroine underdeveloped (and sometimes just plain stupid), and it feels as though the author wanted to delve in more to the story, but came up short with: and then this happened. In my opinion (and it's only that) I believe this is a decent first draft, but needs significant work in order to be truly what it could be. There's great ideas, only so-so execution. I don't demand perfection, but I do request a good communication of the story. All in all a two hour read, that I wish I hadn't read.

4-0 out of 5 stars New take on aliens & angels
This book didn't zap me with a wow, but it was a good book to read. I liked the idea that angels were just aliens from another planet, and thought that it was well-written. It's more YA than not, but that's ok, because I have teens, and I would not be worried about them reading it and finding innapropriate material.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this one...

Let me start off by saying this, if you liked Hush, Hush then I think you would like this one. If you hated Hush, Hush I think you would LOVE this one. I didn't hate Hush, Hush but I had mixed feelings about it. This one gave me no mixed feelings. I completely and totally adored it!

I'm not even sure about how to describe it. You think it's paranormal at first but it's more of a sci-fi story. I'll say this much though...I adored it. Melanie's writing style is excellent and she draws you in with her fast-paced story development.

The characters are great and a very "real" bunch of teenagers. There are surprises at every turn and the storyline was unique. I really recommend this one to YA and "fallen angel" fans as I think you'll find something totally different and intriquing in this book.

Product Description
Gemma Doyle is looking forward to a holiday from Spence Academy—spending time with her friends in the city, attending balls in fancy gowns with plunging necklines, and dallying with the handsome Lord Denby. Yet amid these distractions, her visions intensify—visions of three girls dressed in white, to whom something horrific has happened that only the realms can explain.

The lure is strong, and soon Gemma, Felicity, and Ann are turning flowers into butterflies in the enchanted world that Gemma takes them to. To the girls' great joy, their beloved Pippa is there as well, eager to complete their circle of friendship.

But all is not well in the realms—or out. Kartik is back, desperately insisting to Gemma that she must bind the magic, lest colossal disaster befall her. Gemma is willing to comply, for this would bring her face-to-face with her late mother's greatest friend, now Gemma's foe—Circe. Until Circe is destroyed, Gemma cannot live out her destiny. But finding Circe proves a most perilous task. . . .

This sumptuous companion to A Great and Terrible Beauty teems with Victorian thrills and chills that play out against the rich backdrop of 1895 London, a place of shadows and light . . . where inside great beauty can lie a rebel angel.Amazon.com Review
In this sequel to the Victorian fantasy A Great and Terrible Beauty, Gemma continues to pursue her role as the one destined to bind the magic of the Realms and restore it to the Order--a mysterious group who have been overthrown by a rebellion. Gemma, Felicity and Ann, (her girlfriends at Spence Academy for Young Ladies), use magical power to transport themselves on visits from their corseted world to the visionary country of the Realms, with its strange beauty and menace. There they search for the lost Temple, the key to Gemma's mission, and comfort Pippa, their friend who has been left behind in the Realms. After these visits they bring back magical power for a short time to use in their own world. Meanwhile, Gemma is torn between her attraction to the exotic Kartik, the messenger from the opposing forces of the Rakshana, and the handsome but clueless Simon, a young man of good family who is courting her. The complicated plot thickens when Gemma discovers a woman in Bedlam madhouse who knows where to find the Temple; Ann shows signs of being enamored of Gemma's loutish brother Tom, and their father's addiction to laudanum lands him in an opium den. A large part of the enjoyment of this unusual fantasy comes from the Victorian milieu and its restrictive rules about the behavior of proper young ladies, as contrasted with the unimaginable possibilities of the Realms, where Gemma has power to confront gorgons and ghosts and the responsibility to save a world. 3-0 out of 5 stars from Missprint DOT Wordpress DOT com
The more Gemma Doyle learns about her visions and the magic that allows her to enter the Realms--a world beyond our own usually seen in dreams or death--the more questions she has. Gemma finally knows the truth about her mother and the mystical Order that she once belonged to . . . and helped destroy with her closest friend, Circe.

Now the magic is loose in the realms and Circe is hunting Gemma, her only way back to all of that magic. Kartik, Gemma's mysterious shadow since leaving India, insists Gemma must bind the magic before disaster strikes. Which would be fine if Gemma had any idea how to do such a thing.

Worse, is it the Christmas season--Gemma's first since her mother's death. While her friends Felicity and Ann talk of balls and other wonderful plans for their time away from Spence Academy, Gemma is left to wonder what the holidays can hold at home with her strict grandmother, her irritating brother, and her feeble father.

The holiday season promises a world of distractions in the form of balls and the most intriguing form of one Simon Middleton--not to mention an introduction to the rarefied circles of high society. But Gemma has no time for distractions.

Questions will be answered, enemies will be fought, and Gemma will have to take her stand in Rebel Angels (2006) by Libba Bray.

Rebel Angels is the second book in the Gemma Doyle Trilogy (which began with A Great and Terrible Beauty). It is also one of those books where it is very clear that it is the second book in a trilogy, which is fine. The beginning of the story provides almost enough recap of earlier events to make it possible to read this book out of sequence though, as ever, many nuances would be lost that way.

While Rebel Angels is a continuation of an already exciting story, this book lacked some of the verve and spark of the first. With all of the summarizing the story starts slowly, picking up when Gemma and her friends depart from Spence for their holiday. While Gemma and Kartik evolve and change especially throughout this story, it felt like a lot of the other characters were working through the same emotions and the same problems readers saw in the first book.

That said, the second half of the book is much more exciting and faster paced than the first. Bray once again provides a vivid window into the world of 1895 London from the eyes of a heroine willing and ready to think for herself. The underlying commentary on the roles of women in Victorian England and feminism is also fascinating in a book that is ostensibly a historical fantasy.

As a whole the story is very interesting and aptly sets up the conclusion of the trilogy, of course, but Rebel Angels just lacked that little spark to set truly set it apart as a book in its own right.

3-0 out of 5 stars Rebel Angels
I thought this was a pretty good book. Only pretty good because i feel like it started out really really slow.It was... boring for what seemed like the first third of the book. I also thought it was pretty predictable, i could guess things that were going to happen, and most of them did. Although what Bray did do right, she did really really good. When the book got really interesting, I couldn't stop reading it. While I said that I could predict some things, others I was completely surprised about, in a good way. I would recommend this book, but only if you can handle a slow beginning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally lives up to it's predecessor-and held this adult's interest just fine thank you
It's the season of goodwill and merry times in London Town and Gemma Doyle, on Christmas vacation from Spence Academy is both looking forward too and dreading the trip. Looking forward to it because there shall be balls and parties and all sorts of the kinds of the wonders she has dreamed her whole life of-and dreading it because her last encounter with the creatures of the dark Circe left Pippa, one of her circle of the three trusted friends who knew her dark secret (brave Felicity, clever Ann, beautiful Pippa and mysterious Gemma-the new order) behind in the realms, leaving her dead in the "real" world. And Ann, the scholarship student, left at Spence to be trained as a good governess for her horrible cousins, will be left behind as usual to have the holiday season with the servants.

Gemma also has no desire to spend weeks with her pompous doctor brother who thinks of nothing but getting a rich wife, her social climbing grandmother who is so restrictive she is hardly left a moment to her herself and her father who is sinking more and more into his opiate addiction in a desperate attempt to avoid the crushing grief of her mothers death.

Until the girls come up with a plan. Since Gemma smashed the Runes the Order captured the magic of the realms in so long ago in her battle with Circe, freeing her mother at last-the magic of the realms is running free-and much easier to bring to the other side. So the girls concoct an illusion-that Ann is long lost royalty and as such must come to London with them so they can continue their search for Circe.

But Gemma is having strange dreams of three girls is white on cliffs jumping about-trying to warn her of something-and the school has a new teacher to whom she feels a great mistrust. And of Kartik is never far away, telling Gemma that she must find the temple in the realms-an ancient source of power and there bind the magic. Both the Order and the Rakshana want the power all to themselves and at the same times creatures both wondrous and terrifying-and all too familiar and too good to be true- are introducing themselves and telling their own tales about the Order's long domination of the power in the realms and how they would like a share in it.

There are riddles to be solved, visions to unravels and people to be determined if they are trustworthy. And while London's winter season of balls whirls on and courtships begin these three girls may find themselves trapped in a fight for their lives-and the safety of the borders between these two worlds, with only the strangest of allies, and the most unusual illusions to help them.

Like it's predecessor this is a wonderful book that's just a page turner. It totally holds up to the promise of the first book-and still managed to capture my adult interest. Totally impossible to put down once you've started and once you've finished you'll be howling for the next one. This story is very well put together and filled with surprises and twists and turns that I never could have guessed (and normally I see plot changes coming but with book I always kind of on the hook about weather or not they were really headed in that direction) and made for a great ending. Surprisingly this book also dealt with some social issues (not the Victorian girl empowerment stuff from the first book) that I would have thought would never have been brought up in that age-making Gemma's reaction to the big revelation a little unrealistic. But other than that-no complaints.

Five stars

2-0 out of 5 stars Rebel Angels. . . What did that even have to do with the story?
The sequel to Libba Bray's bestselling novel A Great and Terrible Beauty fell very short of the mark. The amount of adult content -- drugs, date rape, molestation, cutting, and countless others was appalling, and made me wonder why I'd even started this series. And I don't know about you, but the Realms annoyed me more than anything. They were extremely sloppily done and under-developed, and I could never figure out what was going on. I found myself skipping over those parts to get back to the good stuff -- romance, history, and everyday adventures. Usually in a fantasy series, the magical elements are as much if not more developed than the other things, but w/Bray's work it was the opposite. This isn't to say that the historical/everyday stuff was perfect, mind you. The characters were downright ridiculous and overly stereotypical -- mostly the villains. But the good guys weren't much better. Gemma is a liar -- she lies about nearly everything, even when it doesn't make sense. She's also "remarkably stupid", and more often than not I felt like the author put Gemma in awkward situations just to say: "See? I told you she was an idiot! I value those. Along with 16-year-old, lying cheaters who accept strange drinks from people they like, and blame their hangovers on too much marmalade." Bray worked tirelessly to make Gemma seem even stupider than she is already -- or to slip up on one of her countless lies (which happens a lot). It seemed like Bray took everything she knew about a bad role model and stuffed it into her heroine's character.
The relationships between Gemma and her friends/Kartik and Simon are also very random and confusing. One minute they're happy and goofing off (or flirting in the boys' case), the next they're mad at each other -- usually over something stupid. Sometimes the reason is unclear. Gemma's friends are also very unlikeable -- Felicity a power-hungry brat, Ann spineless, and Pippa strange and annoying. The four of them -- including Gemma -- have close to no redeeming qualities, and are awful role models for young girls. I don't know if Bray is against good people or what -- I could never quite figure it out. Another thing about the characters -- what is the likelihood that everyone you ever meet has some sort of horrible problem/tragedy? Not very likely. I mean, yes, many people have awfulstories to tell, but not everyone. . . I don't know if you could figure out Libba Bray and her messages, but I never quite could. The only things I liked about this book was the history and romance. Not recommended. It seemed like Bray came up with these novels on the spot, making everything up as she went along -- much like one of her heroine's lies. And -- like most of them -- very bad lies. To me, Libba Bray planned nothing, had no idea what she was doing, made it all up as she went along, slapped it all together and called it a "book."I wish I had never read this odd, confusing, appallingly inappropriate and utterly disappointing trilogy. There's one author to whom I can easily give out an F.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first
This second book in the trilogy is even better than the first. Simon Middleton (Lord Denby) and his pursuit of Gemma is extremely interesting, along with her simultaneous interest in Kartik. Against the backdrop of prim, proper English society, Emma has to deal with her father's addiction to opium, deal with the dark secrets of her friends' past, and still try to find out a way to bind the magic that needs to be bound in the realms.

The action in this book is,to me, even more interesting than A Great and Terrible Beauty. The girls are learning about how powerful they are as well as the fact that their power doesn't mean they can make everything in real life perfect. The pieces of action that take place in the realms, to me, are not as interesting as the bits that take place in Victorian England.

Like the first book in the series, this will appeal to women and girls everywhere. It's a great, quick read that keeps those pages turning until you're finished. This book even more so than the first has many sensitive themes that will definitely interest the student reader (and give the recommending teacher a bit of caution) - addiction, sexual abuse, false identities, racism, prostitution, and many other things that Victorian society pretended did not exist. ... The world continues to be fascinated with angels…but what does the Bible say about these beings? Billy Graham's book is the definitive resource. With more than a million copies sold,Angelsgives ringing assurance that we are assisted and defended by a powerful order of invisible beings.

Amazon.com Review
Angels: God's Secret Agents is Billy Graham'sone-volume introduction to one of the most popular spiritual phenomenaof our time. Firmly grounded in Graham's close readings of scripture,Angels testifies to Graham's own encounters with the heavenlybeings and also records the many similar stories that other believershave told him over the years. Graham devotes entire chapters to thequestions of whether angels are visible or invisible, how they differfrom men and women, and how the angelic hierarchy is organized. Healso discusses the much-debated theory that UFO sightings are in factangelic appearances.

Perhaps the primary purpose of this book, however, is to inform readers that armies of angels are ready andwilling to help Christians in their daily fights against the forces ofdarkness. "Millions of angels are at God's command and at ourservice," Graham writes. "The hosts of heaven stand at attention as wemake our way from earth to glory, and Satan's BB guns are no match forGod's heavy artillery." Such stirring theological pronouncements arematched with practical advice for believers who wish to know theangelic powers in everyday life. --Kevin Attwood ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great angel book

This is a great read on angels, and may not be what you expect if you think you know it all.The bible speaks a lot on angels so we should know what it says, and Billy Graham does a great job in an easy read to enlighten us on this subject. We will see them later so lets understand a little about them now shall we.You will very much enjoy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Biblical View of Angels
This is a solid examination of the topic of angels by the renowned Billy Graham.

In this day and age, many have extreme views about angels. Some practically worship them, viewing them like they are God rather than created beings.Others virtually ignore their place in the scheme of things while focusing more energy on Satan, demons, etc. Both of these approaches are erroneous.Fortunately, the author does a great job of bringing perspective to this issue.

The points made in this book are based upon Scripture.Mr. Graham also uses testimonial accounts of some who believe that they have had encounters with angels. Some of the topics explored include the following:Whether or not angels are real, how they differ from humans, whether they are visible or not, and many others.

It is very well done.I recommend it.

I was VERY DISAPPOINTED that I was charged shipping!I ordered these copies for our Sunday school class study for the summer & told the class that it would be $4 each for a copy.I chose the free shipping option on my order--why did it not come that way?I am frustrated with this order-please explain!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful information from renowned Bible Scholar
I have really enjoyed reading Angels. It is very informative. For example, I didn't realize there were more biblical references to angels throughout the Bible than to Satan, yet we think often of Satan more than the angels who are before us to watch over us. I think anyone interested in angels would be well served to read this Biblically-based reading for more information. The reason for 4 stars is that while I enjoy the wealth of information B Graham gives, I think his writing style suits more of a 'study-approach' to reading the book...rather than a 'curl up on the couch' kind of read. I think, though, that the information in this book is worth the effort. I would suggest anyone interested in studying angels to get their Bibles out and actually reference the scriptures he mentions. Make notes and decide for yourself if angels really exist. ... Read more

Product Description

Hailed by The New York Times Book Review as a "grippingly told" story of "power and relevance," here is the true, untold account of the first American women to prove their mettle under combat conditions. Later, during three years of brutal captivity at the hands of the Japanese, they also demonstrated their ability to survive. Filled with the thoughts and impressions of the women who lived it, "every page of this history is fascinating" (The Washington Post).

We Band of Angels

In the fall of 1941, the Philippines was a gardenia-scented paradise for the American Army and Navy nurses stationed there. War was a distant rumor, life a routine of easy shifts and evenings of dinner and dancing under the stars. On December 8 all that changed, as Japanese bombs rained on American bases in Luzon, and the women's paradise became a fiery hell. Caught in the raging battle, the nurses set up field hospitals in the jungles of Bataan and the tunnels of Corregidor, where they saw the most devastating injuries of war, and suffered the terrors of shells and shrapnel.

But the worst was yet to come. As Bataan and Corregidor fell, a few nurses escaped, but most were herded into internment camps enduring three years of fear and starvation. Once liberated, they returned to an America that at first celebrated them, but later refused to honor their leaders with the medals they clearly deserved. Here, in letters, diaries, and firsthand accounts, is the story of what really happened during those dark days, woven together in a compelling saga of women in war.

Amazon.com Review
"Found worms in my oatmeal this morning. I shouldn't haveobjected because they had been sterilized in the cooking and I wasgetting fresh meat with my breakfast.... I'm still losing weight andso are most of us..."

Ruth Marie Straub, an Army nurse, wrote those words in her diary onMarch 15, 1942, just over three months after the Japanese first bombedthe U.S. military base in Manila. She and her colleagues had evacuatedthe city and established, in the Philippine jungle, hospitals for theskyrocketing numbers of casualties. In the face of the advancingJapanese Army, the nurses and other military personnel continued toretreat, first to the Bataan Peninsula, and then to Corregidor, arocky island in Manila Bay. Straub was one of the lucky ones; she wasevacuated with a handful of other nurses in April 1942. Her remainingcolleagues, meanwhile, surrendered with the rest of the U.S. forces inMay and were taken to STIC--Santo Tomas Internment Camp, wherethey were to spend nearly three years in captivity.

We Band of Angels tells the stories of these courageous women, tagged by the American media as "The Angels of Bataan and Corregidor." Utilizing a wide range of sources, including diaries, letters, andpersonal interviews with surviving "Angels," Elizabeth M. Norman has compiled a harrowing narrativeabout the experiences of these women--from the country-club atmosphereof prewar Manila; to the jungle hospitals where patients slept onbamboo cots in the open air; to the Malinta Tunnel on Corregidor, where they choked on dust and worked while the bombs rained down abovethem; to the STIC, where per-person rations were cut to 900 calories aday and the women resorted to frying weeds in cold cream for food. Thestory Nelson tells is compelling but slightly flawed: like manybiographers, Nelson has a deep affection and respect for her subjects, which causes her to soften rough edges. At the same time, however,Nelson argues that these women were not heroes--nor were they angels(in the acknowledgments, Nelson notes that she didn't want the wordangels in the title, but the publishers had their way). Perhapsbecause Nelson is a nurse herself, she is trying to stress that herprofession is noble and that these women were, in a sense, justfulfilling their duties.

Nursing is noble, of course, but it is clear that these womenwere something special. Amazingly, all of the Angels of Bataan, some99 in number, survived their ordeal--and clearly helped hundreds ofthe other sufferers survive. We Band of Angels deserves a spaceon the bookshelves of anyone interested in World WarII. --C.B. Delaney ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's about time
It's about time I've heard about women and their sacrifices and contributions in World War II. Why all the secrecy? This book should be made into a movie for a younger generation. Historically accurate, compelling, gives us a view of another part of the world, and another time....this time with women as the heroines they were.

5-0 out of 5 stars WE band of angels
This is an excellent source for the World War II buff or the general historian. It tells it like it was when the Japanese conquered the Philippines and the American nurses trapped there were subjected to the 'Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.' It is well written, easy on the eye and a very enjoyable read. RECOMMENDED.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rose says:
I knew the Nurses of the Pacific had a tough time and was not happy when my orders said "Okinowa" but Mother Nature saved me and my orders were changed.Every Library in the U.S. should have copies of these Nurse books. Most people have no idea of the number of Nurses taken prisoner during WW2 or the ordeals they suffered as P.O.W.'s of the Japanese. Just caring for the wounds of war is bad enough to try to forget. Rose,(ex Army Nurse).

4-0 out of 5 stars Nurses of Bataan and Corregidor
An assignment to the Phillipines was much to be desired by Army and Navy nurses in the late 1930's and early 40's. Dancing under the stars, tennis, swimming on beautiful beaches . . . all the perks of a post in this paradise. Then December 8, 1941--the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and soon after the Phillipine Islands. The nurses remained true to their duty, caring for the many casualties, until they were forced into the tunnels of Corregidor. This is their story, a story of survival under terrifying battle conditions, imprisonment and starvation. A well-researched history of these brave women, who rarely receive the accolades they deserved.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fills a Neglected Niche in WWII History
Regardless of what some view of the authors writing style, this book fills a forgotten niche of WWII history.I have been a student of WWII for over 40 years, and the information in this book, and they way the story relates to their treatment at the hands of the Imperial Japanese Army fits right in with what we know and what had been documented.

One historical inaccuracy, is very early in the book.Contrary to the author's allusions, the Army Air Force at Clark Field was not caught unprepared because of officer arrogance. The US was a victim of the fates of bad timing. The Japanese had planned to attack Clark and the Phillipines almost simultaneously with the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese air forces based on Formosa, were delayed by thick fog.The US air forces were in the air, awaiting a Japanese attack, but none arrived due to their weather delay. The Japanese took off as soon as the fog lifted, and by the time the Japanese arrived, the US planes had landed or were in the process of landing to refuel.By a twist of weather, the Japanese caught the US planes on the ground. Not by American arrogance of Japanese capabilities. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great read for those in the medical field especially
I have been in the medical field for many years, mostly in the emergency rooms. I really enjoyed this book and the heart felt stories. Wonderful book for anyone to read to understand more about the work the ER docs and nurses do every day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!!
I really enjoyed this book and I actually finished it in a day.If you like reading medical stories or something up lifting and spiritual this is for you.It is not too graphic but really gives you a look into how this doctor sees his patient and how he feels about being a emergency room doctor. You really feel like you know him and some of the patients by the end of the book.I would definately recommend this book.

Dr. Lesslie chronicles his poignant journey as a veteran emergency department physician in this beautifully-written collection of true stories. He will make you laugh and he will make you cry as he draws you into his world. I especially like the insight Dr. Lesslie offers into the realities and challenges of working in a hospital emergency department. He accomplishes this with a light heart and without a hint of self-pity. He chose this very stressful career path for all the right reasons - he knew he could make a difference. Well done! I can't wait for the release of Angels on Call!

What an amazingly charming uplifting book.A beautiful blend of science and the spiritual world. If you ever wandered if there is life after death, this book will surely convince you that eternal life does exist. Dr. Lesslie makes it very clear life is fragile, and one of the lessons we will learn is humility is the greatest virtue. Dr. Lesslie has to make split second decisions that only God could orchestrate. You will explore the different challenges, stresses, wonders and mysteries in the ER.Even if you don't normally read religious material, this book will touch your heart.Be it your God, Buddha, Yahweh, or Muhammad, almost all of us answer to a higher power. This heartwarming book is perfect to read with a friend, and especially with your guardian angel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly good heartfelt book about the human condition
Dr. Lesslie's Angels in the ER: Inspiring True Stories from an Emergency Room doctor will make you both laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time, as you see through his eyes an honest appraisal of life in the ER. As the good doctor comments, the ER is where we are all put on an even keel. Perhaps not in those exact words but he does write about how bankers and common folks are both brought to the same level of circumstance as all can be seen in their barest glory.

Lesslie also writes about the "untouchables" the people who society happens to "forget" except for the angels in the ER.

Finally, Lesslie gives several examples of angels, perhaps the ones that are invisible, but angels all the same.

For Christians, each chapter usually starts with a Biblical verse illustrating the upcoming story. His book would make an excellent Christmas present.

Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Angel: After the Fall V1
Great continuation on paper.Miss the TV series though. Looking forward to the other volumes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Season Six stumbles with too much to take in!
This, unlike the beginning of the Buffy Season 8 series, doesn't feel or sound like Joss Whedon's voice. Its sad as the cliffhanger from the TV show was so open-ended the possibilities were endless.Sadly, this characters all slightly change but all are present in one way or another.Second, there was so much introduced that it was hard to keep track of what was happening and to whom.Lastly, the art.It was okay.Just okay.Characters were not easily recognized at times which made reveals that much less impactful. Its too bad cover artist Tony Harris didn't do the interiors. All that being said, enough is here for me to want to check out the next volume.

2-0 out of 5 stars But What About the Alley Fight?
I bought "After the Fall" 1 and 2 but doubt that I will
buy the rest of the series. Joss Whedon really ripped us off by not continuing the story where the TV series ended, but some time thereafter, when Los Angeles had already gone to Hell (literally, this time, which was a nice touch). The point is, I bought the book expecting to see the action of the Fight in the Alley but only get bits and pieces of it now in flashback. Joss could do better than that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Angel plot but not as compelling or real as the show
this is the first time i have read a graphic novel and it was a bit difficult to get used to at first. in books imagination is used for the imagery and in film visuals and sounds are given by complex shots and actors portrayals. graphic novels are stuck in between these mediums and the emotion and nuances can get lost in the crossfire. it's possible that graphic novel veterans will find it as gripping and meaningful as the show. however unfortunately i have mixed feelings.

pros:

my first impression of the book was that it was very good quality. it's very sturdy and not at all flimsy like most comic books I've seen. the cover is sleek with embossed designs on the back and there is a very useful ribbon bookmark embedded in the spine. the pages are crisp and smells great. overall it has the appearance of a high grade, tall and thin book.

the story is on a par with season five, many of the lines have a similar flow and verbage to the show. there are plot twists that are as big as the Fred-Illria arc or the revelation of Cordy being the villain in season 4. I was able to place myself in the world; in the perspective of the characters. it's not quite as powerful or poignant as the series but much of it it's still there.

the artwork is very beautiful, the colors are rich and the contrasts are well done. some of the character designs are uncanny and is really great. the level of detail and dedication is exceptional.

last but not least there is bonus material in the back portion of the book. it contains a good 15-30 artwork and pen ink photos and the script with added notes. some of them would be great for posters. the Wesley and Illyria is one of the best ones; it's powerful and moving.

Cons:

the length of the book is about as long as one disc on one of the angel seasons. at $16.18 per volume and a season usually having about 6 discs. the price of a season would rough be around $100

some of the plot is hard to follow the first time. you might have to reread some parts over. (particularly with the plot twists) some parts have to be inferred rather than be understood right away.

some of the characters designs seem too much like generic comic book characters rather than close depictions. nina is the worst. nina doesn't really look like the actor on the show and her outfit is a little over the top for her character.

roughly 10%-15% of the book is bonus content which makes the length of story misleading and it seems to end sooner than it should seem.

a picture is usually worth a thousand words but the pictures in this book contain much more. unfortunately no matter how well drawn they are it's still not going to be as good as the actors performances. the book lacks sound and movement and many of the subtleties of tone and mannerisms the show had. the people that worked on this did a very good job; it's not their fault. the medium just falls short.

In short buy the book if you have the money and want some closure. expect to be at least a bit disappointed. there are a lot of good things to look forward to though.

thanks for reading and being part of the Angel/Buffyverse. : )

4-0 out of 5 stars I was Green. I am Ash.
My first encounter with Alice Hoffman was through the movie "Practical Magic" (1998). Knowing that movies are pale reflections of books, I read the book and found it to be much better. When I spotted this book (Green Angle), I realize that Alice was diverse in her writing and decided to read it. I am a fan of YA books and wondered how Alice would translate.

I bought the library bound version (sturdier than the paperback but the pages are not as white) but also the kindle (text-to-speak enabled) version as it was more convenient to port. I could listen too much of the book during my mooring commute to work.

Green a sensitive

There are two trains of thought on this book so instead of taking the low ground and saying that this puny book takes advantage of 9-11, gothic teens, and no plot. I chose to go the other way.

The book itself could be looked upon as allegorical for a los in one's life and how one copes with it. It is simple, elegant and poetic as we see the stages of grief and how different people deal with it. You can empathize with her situation and many of us have been in similar situations. The pacing was well done to go full circle in so few pages; there is not fluff as everything had meaning. It does however leave you to want the next book to see what happens.

It is not so much the words or the situations that make the book, as they are just the incidences in life not life. They are just a shadow of what is taking place.

The only thing I did not prefer in this book is that it is written in the first person "I,I,I" that preference does not distract from the story.

3-0 out of 5 stars from missprint DOT wordpress DOT com
After a disaster destroys the city she loves and kills her family, fifteen-year-old Green is left with nothing; the life she once had turned to ashes just like the ashes covering her once lush garden.

Shocked by the loss and destruction, Green turns inward. Her clothes become armor. She closes her eyes against the loss and the rebuilding taking place all around her. She closes her heart to love or friendship.

But, little by little, love and friendship make their way into her life. As she struggles to survive Green finds unlikely friends, love, and redemption in Green Angel (2003) by Alice Hoffman.

Hoffman is one of those interesting authors who has written books for every conceivable audience (and did so before anyone was writing about kid lawyers if you know what I mean). Several of her books have also been turned into movies, including Practical Magic--one of my most favorite films.

Despite all that, this is the first book I have actually read by Alice Hoffman and it's so unusual that I have no idea if it's indicative of her work or not.*

First things first, Green Angel is a tiny book. Weighing it at less than 130 pages, there are some novellas that are longer than this book. For that reason, the normal narrative rules don't really apply.

Hoffman's writing is sparse (obviously) and melodic. With dialog presented in italics and the plot broken into parts instead of chapters, Green Angel reads more like an extended prose poem than a traditional narrative. Given that caveat, it is a good story.

Hoffman blends elements of poetry and traditional fairy tale tropes like kindly animals and wise old women to create a story about survival and reconstruction in the face of unthinkable tragedy. Sometimes gritty, sometimes florid Green Angel is a brief story that will stay with readers long after the story ends.

Green's story continues in Green Witch.

Possible Pairings: Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, If I Stay by Gayle Forman, The Window by Jeanette Ingold, Madapple by Cristina Meldrum, Evermore by Alyson Noel, How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff

*I saw her at a reading/signing for Green Witch (the sequel to this book) and I didn't know much about her or her books. But I fell in love with the beautiful cover and decided I had to read it. So of course I had to read its predecessor too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pure Imagination Reviews

This book may be only 116 pages but it is filled to the brim with story. Green has a very close relationship with her family. Her mother collects Blue Jay feathers, her father can whistle any tune, flawlessly, and her little sister is made from moonlight. They are all so interlinked that it may be impossible for Green to get over their lose.

This is my first experience with Hoffman, and it was exactly what I was expecting. Magical. It has a fairy tale feel, but almost better. It's...more. It's not your everyday fairy tale. This is magical realism at it's best. I urge you to take an hour and read it! You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pain and Rebirth
Green Angel / 0-439-65878-0

This story of a young girl's loss of her entire family and her own identity, and the subsequent struggle to regain herself in the aftermath of the loss, will no doubt make an impression on anyone. The deep themes of loss and survivor guilt are explored thoroughly, against a backdrop of magical realism.

Somehow, "Green Angel" puts me in mind of Island of the Blue Dolphins, for the titular character "Green" often seems just as isolated and alone, despite her interactions with her neighbors and village people, largely due to the almost complete lack of dialogue throughout the book. And, like "Island of the Blue Dolphins", Green's survival and grasp on humanity is aided by numerous animals, each of which she gently nurses to health, cherishes, and finally frees, recognizing that being wild is an intrinsic part of *their* characters.

Despite its deep themes and achingly lovely narrative, "Green Angel" will not please all audiences. The novel is extremely short - a little more than 100 pages - and the frequent repetition will enable quick readers to whip through in an hour or so. The novel relies heavily on magical realism, with Green often surviving on little more than a few nuts a day, and with health issues largely determined by the demands of the plot. Characters and themes drift in and out of the story, creating an aching, detached narrative to match Green's dissociation from her pain, but in such a way that may frustrate more literal-minded readers.

"Green Angel" is worth trying, if only for the beauty of the prose and the painful themes contained within, and with such a short time investment to the novel, any reader owes it to themselves to check it out, and approach the novel with an open heart. And if you do read and enjoy "Green Angel", make certain to also read the even better sequel, Green Witch.

Green, who was always in the shadows and worked in the garden, is hit with a terrible reality. Her father, mother, and sister were all killed in the city when it was destroyed.

Now living on her own and trying to cope with her changed world, Green begins to fall. She wears all black and begins to ink herself in order to remember her family and what she has lost.Through a boy named Diamond, her neighbor, and an intelligent dog called Ghost, Green is finally able to get through and remember who she really is.

With all that has happened, Green learns that punishing yourself isn't a form of remembering, but moving on is.

Hoffman writes with a clear and silent insight, as if she is looking back at a terrible past with the memories still burning underneath her lids.I remember reading this book a few years back and even now I know the impression it left on me. Wanting to read this book again wasn't because I just enjoyed the story, but because it taught me something that neither my parents nor anyone I knew had ever told me about - what happens to you after someone you love dies.

I'm so glad that my love of reading gave me this insight before anything like this ever happened to me in a less dramatic situation, and therefore I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who wants to learn more about the human heart.

I am a new Felicity Heaton fan and enjoyed this book and the series so far. The Angel series stands on it's own, providing just the right amount of celestial intrigue and more than enough sensuality to make you wish you were a witch and could call upon your own Angel.

Loved this book and all of the author's romantic writings. She writes with a clarity and simplicity which makes it a joy to read.

What she doesn't expect is the black-winged angel of death Apollyon to answer her call -- and his willingness to serve her every desire might prove a temptation too hard to resist. But can she trust him? And is love between angels and mortals possible?

Her Dark Angel is a perfect, bite-sized hit of (let's face it) smut. It's a quick, highly erotic, entertaining read. The story alternates between Serenity and Apollyon's points of view, providing an addictive insight into the blossoming of their relationship, and how both of them fear to admit their feelings. As expected of any romance, there's a HEA ending, but before you get there be sure to expect a lot of smut. Also some sexy angel armour, and wings.

Perhaps one of the only critiques I would have of Her Dark Angel specifically is that the numerous sex scenes, one after the other, became a little repetitive and I ended up skimming through a couple. Furthermore, while the novella promises two conflicts -- the external one of the ex-boyfriend, and the internal one of forbidden love -- only the latter is really explored in any depth. The revenge upon the ex-boyfriend is, disappointingly, resolved rather quickly.

However, for a 30,000 word story, Her Dark Angel is a tight, cohesive and sultry tale which suggests a fascinating world where angels walk amongst men. If you like your paranormal romance hot, then this is the book for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet book, but doesn't help
Really, it is a very sweet book.It has great ideas and will perhaps help a young child or teen.It isn't really what a person needs when they are grieving a special furry friend.I'm a bit disappointed in it.Pretty illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Grief Counsel
A GREAT WAY TO HELP DEAL WITH THE LOSS OF A COMPANION, FAMILY MEMBER AND ONE WHO WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.:-(

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful gift for a friend grieving the loss of a pet.
My veterinarian sent me this book after the loss of my beloved Deerhound, Isolt, to lymphoma. It made me cry and still does a year and a half later.Nevertheless, it's a good cry because it's a reminder that my lovely girl will always be with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dog's are angels
Sweet story for any age.Nice gift for pet loss. Will buy more to put away for my future gifts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Warm and Fuzzy
After the death of our 14-year-old bichon, I sought out books to help me make sense of it all and reach a state of acceptance. This little book seized my attention because of all the stellar reviews.

It's a nice book and a loving tribute to the author's pet. Though I liked the book, I found it a little too juvenile for my tastes. For me it is somewhat therapeutic if not taken too literally.Even the possibility of a pet's spirit continuing to share its warmth and love is comforting though.

As a book to read to and share with a child, I think this book is excellent. I also like the idea of another reviewer to substitute this book for a sympathy card. It would make a great token of sympathy. ... Read more

More than 1 million copies sold! One of the best-selling children's books of all time. First released in book form in 1946, this story has since appeared in numerous editions. It tells of a small angel who simply can't get with the program no matter how hard he tries. Then an understanding elder angel realizes that he's homesick and is able to retrieve a box of his most treasured possessions from "back home." When it comes time for Jesus to be born on Earth, The Littlest Angel gives his precious box to the Baby, but he is worried that God will think his gift too humble. However, God is pleased indeed, and transforms the box into The Star of Bethlehem. The Littlest Angel is presented with the award-winning artistry of Paul Micich who has won several awards and medals for his work. Young Ari Micich was the model for his father's artwork in The Littlest Angel. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Ruined Classic
I love "The Littlest Angel" by Charles Tazewell illustrated by Katherine Evans. It is precious and fun, but, having read this version, encourage people to look for the original. For those of you who don't like big words, this is a good version because they have changed the original text and omitted many of the quaint words our society has almost lost from our collective vocabulary.

5-0 out of 5 stars A venerable story for all ages and generations
Bought the book to quote from on Pledge Sunday at out church. It's about GIVING. The Littlest Angel gave the one thing that was most precious to him to Jesus for Christmas. I gave the book as a Christmas present to my two year old grand daughter. The book evoked wonderful memories of reading it as a child.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with size
I was disappointed in the size of the book. There was no indication that the book was smaller than what is in the stores.Dimensions for the book would have been very helpful. Also, there was no dust jacket, also not noted in the details of the book.I had to go to our local store and buy a copy that would be appropriate for a Christmas gift.

2-0 out of 5 stars Artwork ruins a beautiful classic
I loved this book as a child, and I was excited to find it still in print so that I can share it with my children. The story is an enjoyable classic; however, the illustrations are bizarre and unappealing. Some pictures that show just the little boy's face are sweet.Unfortunately, heaven is rendered in a dark, cold, abstract way that is reminiscent of outer space.Save your money--skip this copy in favor of one of the classic versions.

Product Description
Narrated by the visionary founding member, Hell's Angel provides a fascinating all-access pass to the secret world of the notorious Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club. Sonny Barger recounts the birth of the original Oakland Hell's Angels and the four turbulent decades that followed. Hell's Angel also chronicles the way the HAMC revolutionized the look of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle and built what has become a worldwide bike-riding fraternity, a beacon for freedom-seekers the world over.

Dozens of photos, including many from private collections and from noted photographers, provide visual documentation to this extraordinary tale. Never simply a story about motorcycles, colorful characters, and high-speed thrills, Hell's Angel is the ultimate outlaw's tale of loyalty and betrayal, subcultures and brotherhood, and the real price of freedom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hell's Angel an original outlaw biker
This book is a pretty damn interesting story about the history of the infamous and better known outlaw MC Hells Angels. These guys wrote the book and style for all the bikers and wannabe badasses. They set the standard for how clubs are operated and everyone else just copied these guys inlcuding the police during road formations. Its true that these dudes are not Angels and can be mean when provoked, but ya gotta hand it to them. The history of how it formed by a bunch of vets and than after they left the club Sonny took over and transformed it into what it is now.I didnt know he was an army veteran either! They let him go because of lying about his age coming in and some Hawaiian tattoos that some pogues didnt understand so they let him go which being in the army I can totally believe. He got an honorable discharge though. So the jokes on them.He claims that he was a good soldier and loved it.So if the army had let him stay imagine the type of soldier he wouldve been?I dont think hed be murdering people like some would say.He didnt get into law trouble til AFTER he got out of the army.Had he been able to stay in Im sure hed have been just another NCO who wouldve been known as a strict hard ass.As for his lifestyle in the underworld....amazing he lived through it all.The wild lifestyle, the prison time, stupid car drivers who Im sure may caused an accident for him more than just twice. He pulls no punches and is honest about his life with the HA.He even admits to pulling a gun on the Rolling Stones and their manager during the concert in 1969.Colorful characters in the original outlaw HA MC from the 50's and 60's.I find it interesting that some of the heads came from good families and one was still in the navy when he joined and he didnt have to prospect! I love how he was always the outsider with the cool guy hippie crowd, the rebel rousers and the cops.I like how they supported the troops in Vietnam and i liked how they kicked some heads in at a few hippy rallies.Half these guys were veterans themselves!Too bad they dont do that now with the westboro church members today.Id pay good money to see those guys get their asses handed to them.I myself dont belong in an organization such as the HA.Maybe back than in the 50's and early 60's since thats what all vets do, right? But I do admire them in a way.I cant explain it, but I admire the original Hells Angels. Not for the things theyve done, but what they stood for back in the golden days of greasers and bikers.Very good book and its very hard to put down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tame for what it is
This book is a mixture of random stories of adventures of a famous biker. It reminds me of an old man sitting around telling stories of his wild and woolies. I bought the book because of the stigma around this man and personal stories that were told to me. If you are in to the biker lifestyle, then it is worth the read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Reading
I read this book several years ago and got the urge to read it again. Even the second
time around I found it hard to put down. It is interesting to hear another side to the HAMC than the media hype we have been fed for years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Book was shipped out pretty fast. It was at a good price and in very good condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Psycology of an outlaw
First of all thanks to Sonny for being candid and sincere in his memoirs. I think this is a real story of an outlaw biker and biker clup. This is thus a wonderfull book to read to let you get an insider view of the Hell's Angels clup.

In subtsance, on the other hand, I did not buy his story of getting together in the clup for just making fun. No offence to him or to his friends but it seems to me that this clup was a collection of irresponsible people towards the society. They played childish games and behaved immature. For example they overvalued their patches in a way that only a 10 year old boy can do. The worst they can even kill people for offending the patch. A Pieace of cloth does not worth this much value...They sold drugs, fought people, etc... I did not like this part. I am a biker, but belong to remaining 99%; responsible to the society and always keen to observe the rules. Any one who will read this book should not pretend to be like Sonny at that times.

I also felt pitty about Sharon, who sacrificied her life for Sonny but kicked out in the end- another irresponsible behavior from Sonny. Sharon, with such a beauty, could have lived a different life...

All in all, I think Sonny felt guilty what he had done in the past and tried to give a good message with this book to the society with sincere confession so that new generation does not follow his path and become one percenter. I thank to Sonny for this book and his sincere confessions and I will recommend the book to my son to get some lessons from his story... ... Read more
