Product Description
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
Western literary study flows out of eighteenth-century works by Alexander Pope, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Frances Burney, Denis Diderot, Johann Gottfried Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and others. Experience the birth of the modern novel, or compare the development of language using dictionaries and grammar discourses.

Product Description
Designing pension plans to cover workers and provide the necessary retirement funds for them is one of the critical issues of the turn of the century. Written by four experts in the field of pension funds, this work examines the possibilities for pension reform based on a detailed understanding of a successful system, the union pension fund of the Operating Engineers. This type of plan is managed by workers and management trustees, covering workers that do not have secure and predictable jobs. The authors demonstrate just how this pension fund can provide a useful blueprint for executives, pension fund managers, industrial relations professionals, and public policy decision makers. ... Product Description
Not long ago, their reigned in the learned, cultivated world, a moral philosophy, according to which it appeared that every thing which exists is reasonable; that there is no such thing as evil or good; and that it is unnecessary for man to war against evil, but that it is only necessary for him to display intelligence,--one man in the military service, another in the judicial, another on the violin. There have been many and varied expressions of human wisdom, and these phenomena were known to the men of the nineteenth century. The wisdom of Rousseau and of Lessing, and Spinoza and Bruno, and all the wisdom of antiquity; but no one man's wisdom overrode the crowd. It was impossible to say even this,--that Hegel's success was the result of the symmetry of this theory. There were other equally symmetrical theories,--those of Descartes, Leibnitz, Fichte, Schopenhauer. There was but one reason why this doctrine won for itself, for a season, the belief of the whole world; and this reason was, that the deductions of that philosophy winked at people's weaknesses. These deductions were summed up in this,--that every thing was reasonable, every thing good; and that no one was to blame.

Once, while examining the premises, before deciding to buy, he had observed a light wagon moving along on the extreme south edge of the tract of land included in the farm, but it had occasioned no remark. It was late in the afternoon when he arrived with his family at their new home. On the morning that followed, while Mr. Bolton stood conversing with a farm-hand who had been on the place under the former owner, he observed the same vehicle passing across the portion of his land referred to. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars In a Word, Wonderful
Make no mistake, this is a tremendous teaching resource. As a busy teacher I have little time to prepare such material. There are numerous exercises to be found in this teaching packet, all of which are relevantto a higher understanding of the novel. Kristen Bowers should be commended for her work at Secondary Sources. I forsee great things for the company.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen!
This guide is really helpful. The Great Gatsby is such a tough book to teach and I have struggled to teach the novel without good materials.I have made up quizzes and tests for the novel that don't come anywhere close to these.Plus, the vocabulary reinforcement with worksheets throughout that give the students extra practice with test-taking skills is great!I cannot wait to start the year anew. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Teacher Resource
I am using this book for bi-weekly tutoring sessions ! It is great for word patterns and fluency reading! I recommend it for teachers who use weekly poetry in the classroom!

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS WAS A CHRISTMAS GIFT
This was a Christmas gift for my daughter-in-law who is a 1st grade teacher. She had it on her wish list. She was very excited to receive this book so I believe that this would be a good book for a teacher or the parent of an elementary age child.

5-0 out of 5 stars not dumbed down
See the excerpts at Amazon to help you make your own decision. The cover has samples of poems. One of the excerpts gives some of the instructions for using the book. This is a creative and entertaining way to teach some phonics. It doesn't teach all of the word families but it does a great job with the ones it does teach. The delightful poems also help with memory skills because the poems are easy to remember. This gives a point of reference. On my website, there is a lot about memory skills for young children.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I hoped for.
I expected a book of poems that helped to teach the top 35 word families would have a vocabulary that was more in line with K-2 readers. Many of these poems will not be within the reading ability of children who are learning word families. I was promised many examples of the word families in each poem. Many of them only have a few family words, certainly not enough to help emergent readers gain any practice, especially with the higher vocabulary used through out the rest of the poem. Some of the poems are delightful, but on the whole, I was dissapointed with the book. ... Product Description
Near the northeast corner of the old Common of Boston a section of ground was put apart long before the beginning of the eighteenth century to be a burying ground for some of the heroic dead of the city of the Puritans. For some quaint reason or caprice this acre of God was called "The Granary" and is so called to this day. Perhaps the name was given because the dead were here, garnered as grain from the reaping until the bins be opened at the last day's threshing when the chaff shall be driven from the wheat. ... "Excerpt from the book..."

The apology offered in the Preface to the first volume of this series
for the occurrence of repetitions, is even more needful here I am
afraid. But it could hardly be otherwise with speeches and essays, on
the same topic, addressed at intervals, during more than thirty years,
to widely distant and different hearers and readers. The oldest piece,
that "On the Educational Value of the Natural History Sciences,"
contains some crudities

The play in this book has actually been produced on the radio. Possibly you have listened to this one when you tuned in at home. Product Description
It is evident, that to secure a complete system of teaching Geography in
our Schools, there should be at least three grades of Text-books; namely,
INTRODUCTORY, INTERMEDIATE, and ADVANCED. As the necessity for a Geography
more introductory in its character than those now in use has been
long felt, the Author would respectfully solicit the notice of his
fellow-teachers to this little work.

Its plan is such, that the subject is presented in the most simple form.

It treats of GENERAL FEATURES, such as the locality and description of
Continents, Countries, States, Rivers, Mountains, &c., without dwelling
prematurely upon the minute details that embarrass the learner in his first
effort.

The EXERCISES are arranged in Question and Answer.

The MAPS are free from all meridians, parallels of latitude, and any
superabundance of names; thereby giving a greater prominence to the general
divisions of land and water.
