Knitting Instruction Manual
This book is fantastic!I have read many reviews on different knitting instruction books and then ordered several books from the library to look at them all before making a purchase.I felt this was the best.I learned so much about sewing better seams, how to lenghthen and shorten clothing, diferent ways to increase and decrease, and so much more.I did agree with one review that stated how the index is not very clear and you find yourself searching for things.Once I find what I am looking for I mark it with a sticky-tab.I would be lost without this book.

Knitting Bible
I've been knitting for years, but I don't tend to do complicated patterns. I wanted a reference that would assist me in learning new techniques and stitches. I have found, now that I'm trying new patterns, that I don't know all the abbreviations. After trying to use this book, I ended up returning it. It is filled with information regarding garment making, which is not what I'm focusing on (I mainly knit scarves and hats). The main reason I returned it is that I didn't like the way it was organized. I needed a quick reference for detailed instructions on how to do an abbreviation and I found this hard to navigate in. The index wasn't detailed enough for me to find what I needed, so I found myself browsing though all the sections until I found what I needed. I ended up with "Knitbook: The Basics and Beyond". It's spiral bound, which I LOVE, and I like the simple way it's laid out. All the stitch techniques are in the same place so they're easy to find. But if you mainly make garments, you may like the Ultimate Knitting Bible. It just didn't turn out to be what I was looking for.

This book should be on every knitter's bookshelf.The illustrations are excellent and there are enough that a new technique can be learned in an easy step by step manner.The information contained in the book covers every phase of knitting, not just the functional areas.The instructions for left-handers is excellent as well.If you're looking for the ultimate reference, this is the book for you.

A Wonderful Starter Tool
This was my first ever book/kit in the area of cartooning. After a few weeks of study and practice I had already written and illustrated my first children's book! Some of the categories include: how to draw the cartoon head, how to draw the cartoon body, the cartoon animal, marrying expression to dialogue, advanced techniques, original comic strep jokes and character suggestions, draw your own comic strip sample grids, and animation, (plus many sub-categories) this book will keep you interested, busy, and will turn even the coldest of hearts soft for cartooning fun! Magic Eye Books are Great!
I love Magic Eye books! Some images are more challenging than others but it's fun watching them develop.

something wrong with editing
My 7 and 9 year olds, as well as all their cousins, enjoy the Magic Eye books. So I ordered a couple for Christmas. One good thing is that to help you know if you're seeing the correct image, they have black and white answers in the back. There is something vaguely disturbing in the "answers" section of this one. For page 28, the answer shows a "Chainsaw Teddy," an image of a teddy bear getting it's head cut off by a chainsaw. The actual image on page 28 is a baseball player, catcher, and umpire. Very odd. Also in the answers section, for page 5, the cupid with his arm stretched in front of him has the caption:"(rhymes with tubby) Rub."(I don't know if I can put that in a review) If you don't mind these things, this is a fine book. It seems to me that someone slipped something in that the editors didn't catch, or maybe I got a book that wasn't supposed to be put out. I don't think I'll be giving it to my children. I would opt for the other Magic Eye books. I'm really not sure how to rate it, so I gave it 3 stars. The illusions are great, there's just something wrong in the answers section.

Great art book for teachers!
I teach 2nd grade, and I have less talent for art than a goldfish.

None the less, I've been able to help my students create some knockout work, using the ideas, pictures, and instructions in this book.

After spending thousands of dollars on homeschool materials, I think it's funny that a $15 book should be my favorite!This book is awesome.The BEST part is that is in color on glossy paper!!!Now we can actually see what we are supposed to be doing.I'm only buying color, glossy art books from now on.

We, 7, 9 and 39,created every project in this book and we were all pleased with our results.Basic paint supplies are needed, and I'd recommend good quality papers.The drawing is kept to a minumum so even the littlest can do it.I mounted all the projects on black construction paper and turned our hallway into a gallery.I'm keeping this book and doing it all over again in a few years, so we can see our progress. ... Each Page Is An Exercise In Theater (From Ahadada Books)
This volume is a moving and challenging compilation of drawings executed (irony intended) between 1946 to 1948 in elementary school exercise books.The selection of drawings was done by Artaud for a publication planned by Loeb Gallery in Paris, and the poet wrote a text (his last) to accompany it.Artaud died before the project could be brought to fruition.The design of this book is wonderful: the cover accurately reproduces the blue of the student notebooks of the time along with its cloyingly sentimental drawing of fields and haystacks, and on the verso tables for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.We also see the smudges, tears, stains that will be mirrored on the yellowing, blue-gridded pages within.What strikes us is the utter poverty of the poet forced to use such humble media for his writings and designs.We witness his meat machine--even then secretly sapped and undermined by cancer--as the vision trembles through the muted explosions of chemical-induced electricity to cause the muscles to expand and contract with varying degrees of delicacy.We see the piercing of the page--stabbed 11--perhaps 12 times--in ecstacy, frustration, or as part of a private "gris-gris" ritual--by the poet, who includes nails, thorns, and other emblems ofritualistic transfixions in his cruel drawings.The drawings themselves give us glimpses of the poet's [...], of his thyroid, of lung-like sacks collapsed upon a scream; of bodies dissected and exploded and simplified to maps of layered graphite, and of electrical armature-like processes connected by sinister, exfoliating wires.There is also a heroic landscape of words written, smeared, struck through, that encase the drawings.

Great images but not enough paint!!
I bought this calendar for my niece (7) and nephew (9) for Christmas. They loved it and started painting right away, but soon found out that the tiny amount of each color paint provided is not nearly enough to complete all four canvases. I called the publisher (212-254-5900) to ask for more paint, and they were willing to send me only one more set of paints. I estimate that my neice and nephew will need at least three more sets of paints to complete the canvases.
I could tell them dozens of times to "use thin coats of paint" but they are only kids.... ... Read more
