5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Development Tool and Refresher for Leaderhip
This book is an excellent resource for developing individuals in a wide range of leadership roles- supervisor, manager, director and above. It is also a great book to recalibrate even the more seasoned leader.Mike's style is very focused, grounded, and practical.Additionally, Mike does not overlook the ethical standards leadership and front-line staff must uphold in their work and in their dealings with others.I have used material from Mike for nearly 15 years and find it to be some of the best gifts to share with leadership and front-line staff alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars What you accept is what you teach: setting standards for employee accountability
This is an excellent book with great ideas for dealing with "different" personalities in your work area. I have recommending this book to at least 10 people since I bought it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Management 101
This is a good book for a new Manager or a small company. It has some good practical tips on managing difficult personalities, setting expectations and performance management. Being a more experienced Manager, I was looking for something a little more in depth and high level and was a bit disappointed when reading this book. If you are looking for a good, how to get started as a Manager book then I would recommend this. If you are an experienced Manager than you have most likely alreay heard the principles this book has to offer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
This book is an excellent resource and training tool.I read it, then decided to use it to train my front line team of charge nurses. It has provided us with a clearer vision of how our addressing issues with staff greatly impacts how we reach our vision, and has helped me see how holding my leadership team to a standard (without anger or feeling as if I am asking too much of them) greatly impacts us reaching our vision. Thanks for an excellent, clearcut training tool!

5-0 out of 5 stars What Accept is what you teach

Product Description
Unlike most large-scale studies, which survey teachers after they have completed their programs, Kennedy documents changes in young men and women from the time they enter teacher education programs through their completion of those programs. And, unlike most studies of change, this study includes a variety of teacher education programs so that changes in novices can be examined in light of the programs they attended. Using the teaching of writing as the subject focus, this volume describes how college students think about teaching when they enter a program, shows how their thinking changes over time, and attributes the nature and direction of these changes to the content and character of the programs themselves. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the role teacher education programs play in forming new teachers and in determining the way writing is taught in schools. ... Read more

Professor John Furlong, Director, Department of Educational Studies, Oxford University

Preparing to Teach in Secondary Schools is key reading for all trainee secondary school teachers. It covers the range of core professional skills that student teachers need to acquire irrespective of their subject specialism or their training route. It also considers recent developments in teaching, exploring the opportunities and challenges they present for those about to enter the profession. Topics covered include:

  • Relationships with paraprofessionals and other adults in the classroom
  • New opportunities created by technological advances
  • New thinking on teachers’ professionalism and teacher leadership
  • Data-rich approaches to managing school and pupil performance
  • Assessment for learning
  • Government reforms and initiatives.
Preparing to Teach in Secondary Schools is also suitable for use by newly qualified teachers to support their early professional development. The book encourages readers to engage with ideas presented in the book, and offers students:
  • An interactive approach – Chapters start with a set of objectives and contain a mix of tasks and activities, case studies and scenarios to which readers are invited to respond. Practical examples and illustrations make abstract or unfamiliar ideas easier to grasp.
  • Self-contained tasks – Most tasks can be completed there and then. For instance, if a task requires readers to analyse pupil performance data, a suitable example is provided.
