3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of information, poor presentation
There is lots of useful information in the book. No doubt the author has a very good understanding of the subject. But the prsention is not orderly and makes this book harder to understand. The book does not have any examples at all. It is difficult to teach rules of astrology without examples. I will not recomend this book for a beginer. I felt 'Light on Life' a better book for the beginer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time and Effort

Just another one in the line of poorly written
Vedic astrology intro books.

If Vedic astrology has to take off in the west
the writing has to be way better than this ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome details
A must have for beginners. Deals with fundamentals of astrology in very scientific manner.

2-0 out of 5 stars went way over my head
the books were filled with information but everything went way over my head and i consider myself a step up from a beginner in terms of astrology.so i was really disappointed that the essential elements, e.g., how to interpret a chart weren't explained more clearly.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on vedic astrology
I have read many books on vedic astrology and this book is at the top of my list. One of the most important aspects of a vedic astrology book is the clarity in which the information is brought out and this book meets the best of standards. The second most important criteria is content and in this regard Dr. Charak covers many very interesting aspects of vedic astrology and will not disappoint you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very easy to use for reference.
I design/make jewelry. My new collection is based on Chinese Astrology. This book makes it easy to ensure clients are identifying their correct sign (very easy to find birth year/sign with charts located in front of book).Author also supplies a great summary description of each sign.I use her book constantly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely darling!
This was such a fun and entertaining read! It was eerie how accurate this stuff is. She described my husband (horse) and son (monkey) perfectly in her profiles. Would recommend to a friend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun read
This was a fun read, but that's about it!It wasn't as technical as I wanted to be, but I enjoyed it none the less :)

5-0 out of 5 stars This is THE BOOK on this topic!
I must respectfully disagree with the previous reviewers opinion and am wondering if he/she actually read the book? I have read the book and found it absolutely delightful! It was very enlightening and fun reading as well. In fact, the book is so above average, that it makes me seriously question whether the negative reviewer has an agenda of some kind. I thought Ms. Wu's book showed the greatest reverence for the spirit of the Tao, which is more than I can say for the mean-spirited reviewer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I would recommend this book to anyone truely interested in learning about themselves or others in regards to chinese astrology. It covers a lot of information and gives good insite to your animal and natural element and how they can be used to enhance your life.It compares each sign with other signs in positive and negative areas.I am sure there are other good books out there on this subject but this is one I keep on my desk and study. It has helped me understand myself and that knowledge has enriched my life by approaching life in a new way. ... Product Description
Explains the ancient astrological system sacred to the Cherokee and how to use it in the modern world

• Provides easy-to-use format for determining what signs and numbers rule the day of your birth and what influence they have on your destiny

• Includes a traditional Cherokee ephemeris through 2015

An essential aspect of Cherokee religion is the belief that everything on Earth is the reflection of a star. This includes not only people and animals but also trees, rivers, stones, and mountains--all sentient beings to the Cherokee. Astrology has always played a strong role in the Cherokee tradition because of this belief, but unlike our Western system of astrology, Cherokee astrology is based on a 260-day Venus calendar, which includes 20 individual day signs and 13 numbers. It was the task of the Cherokee daykeeper to coordinate this calendar with those of the Sun and the Moon to determine the most auspicious times for ceremonies as well as to understand the star wisdom carried back to Earth by each newborn child. The day sign of a child explains his or her strengths and weaknesses; the number explains the individual’s role in the great cosmic scheme.

Raven Hail, an elder of the Cherokee nation, provides insightful descriptions for each of the twenty signs that identify characteristics of those born under a particular day sign and gives the meanings of the thirteen numbers that determine the significance of that sign in the larger scheme of life. The author has translated the traditional Cherokee ephemeris into an easy-to-use format that allows readers to quickly determine which sign rules the day of their birth and which number has influence over it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great buy
recieved this book quickly and was in perfect condition! the material in this book is wonderful!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Read
I'm part Cherokee and I felt that I had to learn more of my heritage so I though why not get this book. I like it very much. The delivery was prompted and the book it self has educated me a great deal of some many questions I had been asking myself for some time now. I love it. And the book was in PERFECT shape.
Thank you!

2-0 out of 5 stars Warning-Two titles SAME BOOK
Warning, this book is the exact same as The Cherokee Sacred Calendar: A Handbook of the Ancient Native American Tradition, by Raven Hail. There are two different publishers, but same exact content inside the book.

Other than that, I question the validity of this work. Yes, there are some things that are Cherokee-words, a few pieces of stories (not much detail) but I really have to question, especially since she doesn't give any background, whether this is simply Cherokee stories pasted over the Mayan calendar. Information on Ms. Hail and her background, studies, etc. is scarce.
This comes off as untrue, a bit new agey, and really does not do the preservation of Cherokee ways any justice. In my opinion, misinformation is worse than no information. Don't write something and say it's Cherokee when it's not. That is an insult to my ancestors.
She could have at least sited her teachers or some lineage of teachings.

4-0 out of 5 stars A view to the Cherokee
I wasn't looking for an astrology book when I picked up this book. But after a quick peek, I thought the material was interesting enough for me to take home. This book provided me with a brief but valuable glance into the Cherokee's religion, and encouraged me to learn more of this fascinating culture.

The Cherokee Astrology book is divided into the following five sections:

The Cherokee Sacred Calendar
Finding Your Own Natal Day
The Twenty Day Signs
- Turtle
- Whirlwind
- Hearth
- Dragon
- Serpent
- Twins
- Deer
- Rabbit
- The River
- Wolf
- Raccoon
- Rattlesnake Tooth
- Reed
- Panther
- Eagle
- Owl
- Heron
- Flint
- Redbird
- Flower
The Thirteen Numbers
Ephemeris

The first section glances over the Cherokee view of the stars.Finding Your Own Natal Day section briefly explains how to determine your sign using the last section of this book Ephemeris, which is a 40+ pages long table of dates and corresponding signs. The Twenty Day Signs section describes each sign, spending five pages for each one. Here you get information about each Animal Sign such as associations (direction, symbol, color, stone, element, flower, and herb) and a discussion of the sign astrological and mythological significance for the Cherokee.Another interesting section is The Thirteen Numbers. When I read this section, I couldn't help to note how similar was the Cherokee numeral system to the Maya.

I would recommend this book for a quick and interesting read about the Cherokee.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leaves me wanting more, in a good way
I really wish that Ms. Hail had written more about this.It gives me a taste, and I guess I will have to track down practitioners of Cherokee methods to pick their brains.

I recognize that the Cherokee system is quite similar to the Mayan.I have books on Mayan as well, but I appreciate Ms. Hail's quirky and artistic way of putting things.

Of this book, the author writes, "In my years of practice as a physician, I have, by the use of Astrology, been able to very quickly locate the seat of the disease, the cause of the trouble, the time when the patient began to feel uncomfortable, as based on the birth data of the patient, and this without even touching or examining the patient, and my intense desire to get this knowledge and wisdom before students and Healers in a classified form, is the reason for this Encyclopaedia.... When once you have discovered the cause of the disease, and understand its philosophy and the relation of the patient to the great Scheme of Nature, the matter of treatment I leave to you, and according to the System and Methods you may be using." 5-0 out of 5 stars Every Occultist and Astrologer Should Have this in their Library
H.L. Cornell's book Medical Astrology is an excellent source it helps one when diagnosing symptoms and or diseases within both Medical Astrology and ones' Native and Annual Chart in what to look for it aids in treatments and how to use herbs, foods and more in healing. The biggest part of the book helps one to understand that not all diseases are just because, but they are predicted and denoted by the specific placements in ones' chart.

For example, someone who is with a dual personality it would because of; Many planets in double-bodied signs at birth, and such signs also on the angles; Mercury in a double-bodied or bicorporeal sign, as Gemini, Sagittarius, or Pisces and then afflicted by Saturn and the Moon. The influence of Saturn is to restrain limit the mental faculities and to cause distrubance of, and an unbalanced mental state. This is one of many things in which can be diagnosed by understanding the planets in ones' Birth Chart and then comparing to the Annual Charts as well for short term illness and such.

A must have for all who are serious occultist, healers, medical doctors and Medical Astrologers as well as Astrologers.

—ELIZABETH LESSER

Is astrology destiny?
Of course not! Your birth chart does not foresee a future written in stone, and predictive astrology is just a parlor game. The original purpose of astrology was to help you tap into your inner wisdom, ask yourself the right questions, and find your own answers to life’s challenges. Now this unconventional and refreshing guide helps you reconnect with the sea of intuition that flows through each of us—so you can discover your true purpose.

Based upon the author’s nearly twenty years of experience as a professional astrologer, this amazing book gives you a secure orientation in the basic principles of astrology and teaches you highly effective techniques for identifying your talent, your passion, your spiritual support, and your connection to community.

• Clear instructions on technically reading the planets, signs, and houses in your birth chart as well as a primer on the meaning of each
• Easy-to-follow intuitive exercises to connect with your “cosmic database,” a wellspring of creativity that encourages you to trust your potential and to love who you are in the present
• Helpful ways to trust your own limits and use them as inner teachers
• Twelve true life stories that illustrate the inspiring and uniquely brilliant way in which each of us can bring an astrological script to life

If you are drawn to astrology but are intimidated by its apparent complexities, this generous, comprehensive book is the book for you. It presents the basics of astrology with crystal clarity and prepares you to use them with a subtle, finely honed precision that no other source provides. Even if you’re an experienced astrologer, you’ll be enlightened and stimulated by Elizabeth Rose Campbell’s affirmation: When you follow your best instincts, you follow the stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting writing
I like this book because Campbell's writing is beautiful. I just find it a bit hard to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Water Signs especially
I was led by the Universe to this book -- and it refreshed me and affirmed that I must continue to follow my own path and vision. This is not for someone who has a very practical and rigid approach to astrology. This is for intuitive types (people with significant water) who practice astrology as an intuitive art...where the chart speaks to them and yields to them revelations.

The intent of this book is to help practitioners develop an integrated view of their chart energies. So often, people understand aspects of their chart in a very disjointed way. However, charts and people are perfectly designed and have life themes. This book helps you open your subsconscious to understand your life themes in a very fulfilling and encouraging way.

If you are relying on others to interpret your chart, this is not the book for you. If you want to learn to rely on your own intuition and instincts to receive messages from your chart then read on. This book will help you develop your antennae.

I already practice astrology in this way -- with visualization, meditation, openness, asking the chart questions, etc. However, I was still very moved by this book because the reality is you can never exhaust the revelation in your chart. As long as you live you can wake up and find a new way of interpreting or glimpsing new insight. Reading this author is one way to do that -- this author has such a nuanced way of perceiving chart energies that you will enjoy adding her wisdom to your practices.

She won't give you all the answers -- because the book is after all about relying on your instinct. She will simply give you a compass and give you questions to ask yourself. (Earth signs might be exasperated by this.) It will be up to you to tap into a higher universal consciousness.... don't be afraid. The greatest conversation is always between you and your chart; you and the Universe.

Not for beginners. This is for those who already have studied houses, signs, planets, and aspects and understand what they mean separately. This is for those who now wish to go the next level -- going to the level of synthesis, of integration...where you use your own vision and muse to glean how to interpret your chart in a very cohesive fashion.

This is a holistic approach to the art of self-interpretation via astrology. You will be inspired.

I do wish the book were longer. Perhaps there should be a sequel.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK TO UNDERSTAND YOURSELF
This book is a good one to begin to understand astrology and you.
Enjoy her articulate, artistic view of people and the stars. Awake and tuned in to everything in real ways, this is her gift to the world.

Elizabeth Rose Campbell was one of my astrology mentors. Sessions with her were so helpful, she saw the depth of who I was and encouraged me to step into who I am in this world.
I learned so much about astrology and myself from her unique in depth perspective. She described life and your chart as one of process and chapters with insight and appreciation.
A powerful spirit. This book will assist many.
A great gift for your friends. I miss her.

1-0 out of 5 stars 2-for-1
Great! Now you can waste your money on a moronic self-help book AND an idiotic, irrational text on a pseudoscience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
IMHO, this book would be useful for practitioners who aren't astrologers per se but would like to use astrology to gain insight on themselves or their friends. If you are a beginner and you want to learn the general language of western astrology, I'd consult other books (i.e., Woolfolk, the Marion and March series, Sakoian (sic), Hickey, or for a more comprehensive grounding, Burk or the Parkers).

In this book, Ms. Campbell approaches astrology intuitively, producing results that are by turns revelationary good and exasperingly cryptic.Instead of using a cookbook style (using accepted astrology language), she adopts the socratic method in giving her descriptions of the planets, signs and houses (ex:Sun in the 1st house: How do I...?)

Midway through the book, she showcases twelve biographies of powerfully successful people in which she gives little verbal interpretation, expecting the reader to "intuit" the chart while reading their testimonies. (Not being able to do so, I felt I wasted my time.)

I finished reading the book "feeling" both mystified and awed. When she shares her insights, I gain a fresh approach to the planets, signs and houses, but I can't grasp her intuitive socratic style.(I managed, however, to glean useful information from the questions asked regarding the north and south nodes, strangely enough.)

Again, this book should not be recommended to beginners trying to master the nuts and bolts of western astrology and interpretation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Go-To Reference
I own several astrology books.I can't think of one I refer to more often than this particular volume. If you care about what motivates people, what cripples people, what people are here to work through, then I highly recommend adding this to your library.I use it over and over and over again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disjointed
The pros:
The book is visually beautiful. It has nice, heavy paper. The illustrations are colorful and pretty. It's put together in a really visually pleasing way. The language is easy to understand.

The cons:
I am not sure who this book is written for. When I first started reading it, I thought it was easy, simplistic and could follow along well. As I went along, it got more and more confusing- partially because she doesn't give complete information, partially because she starts talking with terms that are over my head. She doesn't draw a straight line from A to B. Sometimes she flies and the reader is not on the plane with her. The worst part about it though is that it all seems to hypothetical and focused on entertainment rather than anything concrete. The things that are in my chart that are supposed to be part of my karmic work are not related to me at all. I am not talking about just one thing that can be dismissed, but most things. So, it doesn't seem to be accurate. If it were hard to understand but accurate, I'd take the time to figure the rest out. Instead I think I have a pretty book that will sit on my shelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Past Life Astrology
I found the book to be very helpful in explaining possible deep rooted issues. I also found the layout and use of graphics to be an added bonus in making the book more "reader friendly." The content is fairly light and certainly not exhaustive, but overall I thought it was a good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
Fantastic - Judy Hall is always worth her weight in gold but this time she has out done herself - the whole family LOVED IT - and yes its RIGHT easy to read - spot on...

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
This is a wonderful book. Richly illustrated, beautifully written with a warm, engaging, and informative style. The novice will easily be able to understand this book and the experienced will find it an excellant reference. If I were to recommend only one book on this subject- this would be it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Friends on a Rotten Day
Having previously read Born on a Rotten day and laughing so hard I cried, I knew I couldn't miss Friends on a Rotten Day.Hazel Dixon-Cooper is a fresh of breath air and never has written a boring line. This book is strictly for us girls and for good reason. In it you learn everything about all your girlfriends and some.In each chapter there is a compatibility rating, or bond-ability rating. Also at the end of each chapter is a short bit on guy friends.Other than this book being totally hilarious, it was also very thorough and insightful.I have never seen the zodiac signs brought into the light of friendship, but I believe it should be.For once I completely and totally understood myself and not just my friends! This was a great book and I highly recommend it to all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sun Sign Astrology on Steroids!
If you like cliches and astrology at the 2nd grade level you will find this book interestng.Reading this book is very much like looking at life through the eyes of a Junior High female.I know very few adult females that act like those depicted in the book. She only gives a few paragraphs to the male sex at the end of each chapter. Maybe she believes males don't have friends! Her book "Born on a Rotten Day" was so heavy handed on the negative sterotypes of Sun Signs astrology it was depressing. At least in this book she has put more emphasis on the positive traits of the various Signs. It is probably a sure bet that the author and the editor have never had to diagramed a sentence in their life. They probably don't even know what syntax means! It is full of street talk slang and some humor and wit but very little valid astrology. You would think she would understand that the orbit of Venus is between the Easth and the Sun, therefore Venus is never more than two signs away from the sign of the Sun. Capricorn cannot have Venus in Aries as stated on page 30.Then she continued to make the same mistake over and over concerning Venus and impossible Sun sign combinations.Taurus is not known as the "collector" of the Zodiac but Cancer is famous for that trait.Your Sun may be in a certain Sign but it's expression is very much modified and affected by the aspects from other planets and the earth's satellite, the Moon.In 44 years of interperting astrology charts I have only twice found a person's natal Sun not aspected by a any planet or the Moon. It is stated she is a research member of The American Federation of Astrologers. For many years the AFA was the only game in the USA but it has been far surpassed by many more astrology organizations that honor scholarship in Astrology. The AFA is so last century!

This book offers very little explanation of things that matter most. I got much better understanding of how astrology affects people's attitude from a local newspaper horoscope. Good thing was that this book was not expensive. If you are looking for something more thorough, find something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Anyone Interested in Chinese Horoscopes
This book will take anyone through the process of creating a horoscope in the Chinese Zodiac. No outside information is needed - everything is in the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly accurate
I didn't really know what to expect when I picked up this book, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. Not only does it provide you with all the information you want to know about the twelve animal signs and animal compatibility, but it also provides you with additional more specific readings related to the month and hour of your birth, your life's path according to the sixty-year cycle, and other interesting things like the "noble good fortune stars", "yearly gods" and "career stars" (indicating where your natural talent lies in terms of work). It may seem a bit overwhelming with all the charts, but if you patiently follow the instructions, which are very clear, you can easily find the relevant information and reading for your horoscope.I was surprised how accurate my reading was.

4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful introduction to Eastern horoscopes
This is a very attractive book that covers a lot of ground in Chinese astrology. It's based on the familiar twelve animals, of course, but it makes a point of noting that the cycle actually continues for 60 years rather than 12, with each animal being linked in turn with one of the fiveChinese elements--you may know that you were born in the Year of the Ram,but are you a Prosperous Ram, a Lonely Ram or a Ram Respected byOthers?

The book also includes information on your birth hour, birth dayand birth month (by the Chinese lunar calendar)--there's information inhere on how your month interacts with your year, making Chinese astrologymore dynamic than it sometimes is presented. Various combination of hour, month and year give you such interesting sidelights as your Career Star, your Animal Bone Fortune and your Yearly God.

There's not much about thetheory or philosophy behind Chinese astrology, which may be good or baddepending on your point of view.I took off a star from my rating becausethere are a couple of typos in the charts that make them a bitconfusing--you can figure out what they're supposed to say, but hopefullythese will be caught in later editions.Still, I recommend this book as agood introduction to the subject, and an excellent gift choice. ... > The 'Yogas in Astrology' deals primarily with the technique of analysis and interpretation of the various astrological yogas according to the Parashari system. > The approach to analysis is based on the standard astrological principles which are so often ignored while dealing with this all-important subject. > The role of the houses where the various yogas form, the signs involved, the other planetary influences on the yoga-forming planets, the strength and weakness of the constituent planets, their status in the vargas, and the operating dasha have all been elucidated with examples. > One full chapter has been devoted to the famous, but ill-understood, Gaja-Kesari yoga as a model example of the technique of yoga interpretation, and the various factors which facilitate or obstruct the functioning of a yoga. > The Pancha-Mahapurusha yogas, the solar and the lunar yogas, and the important Dhana yogas, Raja yogas and Arishta yogas have all been treated exhaustively. > The generally ignored Nabhasa yogas have been classified in a unique manner and their significance in horoscopic analysis emphasised. > One chapter is devoted to the Snayasa yogas. > The book is profusely illustrated with examples. > A must for all students of Vedic astrology. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
There are two books you should own for referencing vedic yogas, B.V Raman's 300 Important Combinations and Charak's Yogas in Astrology. Both are excellent books, but I do notice that I typically grab Charak's book from the book shelf first.

His style of writing is clear and concise. I have many of his other books as well and I have not been disappointed.

A need for a good, modern, and carefully written book on Yogas in (Hindu)Astrology was long due,Dr.Charak has done the required work in brilliant way.The book has complete systematic method for analsyis and interpratation of various Yogas.(Planetary Combination,in Hindu Astrology)The book is based on Parashari system of Astrology. The book is well written and constructed. The much ignored Nabhasas Yogas are also investigated in the book.In order to make the art of Yogas interpratation very clear, Dr.Charak has very wisely used the famous Gaja Kesari Yoga,as an example to explain the whole approach to interpret and analysis the yogas. It would not be out of place to mention that after long long time, ever since late Prof.B.Suryanarayana Rao wrote a book on Yogas in early 1900,s this is the only quality book, available in the market, written by a deeply serious writer who is also known for his clarity of expression and richness of material. A dispassionate reader will not be slow to recognise the fact that the book as written furnishes good food for reflective minds, especially because the book is written by Dr.KS Charak,in his own inimitable style.I heartily recommend the book to all lovers of Indian Astrology. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good books
This is a good book and compact, part of a series put out. I was new to astrology. However, I would never spend $40.00 for one alone. You can find other descent books out their for much less. Years agoI spent maybe $13 for a new one.

They say Volume I is going out of print, so if you can grab it, please do! This series, which even has further volumes, if you can find them, are the best ever with which to learn the basics. Easy to understand and yet covers all the bases.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners
This book is by far the best I have read when it comes to introducing astrology to people who have a serious interest. It goes through all the major principles of astrology in a clear and concise manner. It is structured by lessons as opposed to chapters and has a quiz at the end of each lesson. As you read more about astrology and become more experienced interpreting charts, you will want to read seperate books for each planet, or the nodes, etc., but I can't think of a better way to start.

Product Description
This book reintroduces an ancient system of astrology developed by the ancient Druids through a mystical runic alphabet known as the Ogham. They used a Celtic tree calendar, in which each tree has a dryad or tree spirit, which represents the spiritual nature in human beings.Because the tree signs function somewhat like the moon signs in traditional astrology, these signs bring to light many of the details of your inner world: emotions, feelings, spirituality, and the subconscious mind.No prior knowledge of astrology is necessary to use this system; all you need to know is the day and month of birth to greatly enhance the interpretation of your natal chart by adding your tree sign and the new information it conveys. The book includes a comprehensive analysis of each tree sign and each sun sign of the traditional zodiac, with an analysis of each of the tree sign/sun sign combinations, plus an exercise, spell, ritual, or meditation specifically created for each combination. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not Remotely about Astrology
This book actually describes a system of seasonal meditations that will make your life better somehow. She has taken Mr. Graves' "White Goddess" and Mrs. Paterson's "Celtic Lunar Zodiac" and turned it into a spiritual system. The problem with this is that she strictly adheres to Mr.Graves' 365 day year, so her seasons will migrate backwards a day every three years or so until they are completely reversed. Her history is also off as well: the Celts practised aspects of Buddhism, Taoism and yoga before the Indians and Chinese did (pp. 17 and 213), and could teleport to Atlantis (page 199).

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
Based on previous reviews, I thought this book would have more substance or perhaps a new and unique view on astrology from the Celtic view. But it was poorly written and did not give any information that cannot be found free on the internet.

Pros of the book:
* Good to get quick information about what dates correspond to each Celtic tree sign
* Within the tree sign analysis, the info includes the Ogham alphabet letter, ruling deity, and general information about the tree (where it grows, what it looks like, etc)
* The combination of Celtic tree sign and sun sign are interesting.

Cons of the book:
* The descriptions of character and personality traits of each Celtic tree sign are very superficial. More time is given to showcasing the characterics by profiling a famous person or, in my tree sign, profiling a personal friend of the author. I found these examples to be useless and thought it would have been better to go indepth about the specific traits and characteristics of each sign.
* The sun sign analysis is also very weak. There is no new information nor is any of it presented in a novel way. Again - information that can be found on the internet.
* The exercises at the end of the book are dreadful! There is only one exercise per Celtic tree/sun sign combination. Of the ones I read through, none of them sounded interesting or enlightening.

I was very disappointed by this book as I have a great interest in Celtic history and beliefs and thought this book would provide a new level of understanding. Maybe I found it to be too elementary because I have knowledge of astrology.

Yet of the parts I did not know - the information regarding Celtic tree signs - I also found those parts to be underwhelming. The details were superficial and the examples unnecessary and uninformative. A quick search on the internet gave me almost all of the information provided in the book. For an author who has written a number of books, the overall content and style was poor.

In short, I found this book read like a lame undergraduate report on Celtic tree signs as they relate to astrology. There was no evidence that the author really put much indepth thought or research into the topic.

I would say this book may be useful to those with absolutely no knowledge of astrology or for those who want a very barebones reference to Celtic tree signs. But for others, they would be better off thumbing through and reading relevant pages of the book in their local bookstore, instead of spending money to make it part of their personal library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take a Tour of the Celtic Tree Signs (and much more!)
"According to Druid teaching, which is thought to reach back to 500 B.C.E., each tree contains a dryad or magical tree spirit. Celtic Astrology, based on the mystical tree calendar in which the tree dryads represent the nature in human beings, will help you gain new understanding of yourself and others." -From the book

Celtic Astrology is a 13-sign Zodiac where each month is represented by a tree sign. People born during the days ruled by a specific tree tend to exhibit characteristics associated with that tree. In her book, Celtic Astrology - How the Mystical Power of the Druid Tree Signs Can Transform Your Life, astrologer Phyllis Vega provides a comprehensive analysis of each tree sign and the Nameless Day of the Celtic calendar, as well as each sun sing of the traditional Zodiac.

The Celtic tree signs are as follows:

Birch: December 24 - January 20
Rowan: January 21 - February 17
Ash: February 18 - March 17
Alder: March 18 - April 14
Willow: April 15 - May 12
Hawthorn: May 13 - June 9
Oak: June 10 - July 7
Holly: July 8 - August 4
Hazel: August 5 - September 1
Vine: September 2 - September 29
Ivy: September 30 - October 27, 2004
Reed: October 26 - November 24
Elder: November 25 - December 22
Nameless Day: December 23

In this book, the tree sign analysis includes:

*Ogham alphabet letter
*ruling deity
*keywords
*indepth analysis of the tree itself
*character and personality traits of those born under its influence

The sun sign analysis includes:

*key phrases
*symbol
*element
*quality
*ruler
*brief outline of personality and character traits

As if that weren't enough, Celtic Astrology also features tree sign/sun sign combinations including an exercise, project, spell, game, visualization, or meditation specifically created for each tree sign/sun sign combination. Black and white photographs and illustrations are peppered throughout the book, and there is an extensive bibliography and internet resource section for further reading.

Both my husband and I are Scorpios, but his House placements are different from mine, as well as his Ascendant. I've often wondered "How in the world can he be a Scorpio?" He lacks the intensity, curiosity, and interest in transformation that seems so prominent in my psyche. When I read Celtic Astrology, I began to understand some of the differences between us. I am Reed/Scorpio, but he is an Ivy/Scorpio. His temperament is conciliatory, artistic, and creative-and indeed, he's a very talented acrylic painter. I, on the other hand, am forceful, independent, uncompromising, and complex. Bearing an indomitable spirit, I am a survivor.

Vega's deft interpretation of Celtic myths and heroes-as well as the traits of the individual trees themselves-provides additional insight into the differences of individuals born under the same sun sign (as is the case with my husband and myself). This delightful book requires no previous knowledge of astrology, but the additional information of the Druidic tree signs enhances traditional sun sign interpretation. Celtic Astrology is a great book for those wanting to expand their astrological knowledge, as well as those interested in Celtic mythology, Druidism, and the tree signs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Marvelous Book for Beginners and Experts both
Celtic Astrology, by Phyllis Vega is enjoyable to explore. After I had read about myself in the Druid Tree Signs, I found myself looking up my friends and relations. The author thoughtfully includes the traditional sun signs as well as the Tree Signs. Best of all, she includes spells and rituals for each Tree Sign, making the book practical as well as interesting.

Subtitled How the Mystical Power of the Druid Tree Signs Can Transform Your Life, the book begins with a brief introduction to the Druids and their culture along with an explanation of the difference between Sun Sign and Druid, or Celtic astrology. The author's lucid style continues to illuminate the tree signs themselves, including associated deities and animals. As a perpetual student of ancient lore, I appreciated the myths and legends associated with the signs.

The author weaves information about nature, the Celts, ecology, and much more into every chapter. I was impressed by her knowledge and understanding of how things work. For instance, when she discusses The Reed, she details their uses by Native Americans as well as their place in nature, and their relevance as a Tree Sign. Because I am an herbalist as well as a student of nature, I am happy to read a book that not only adds to my knowledge but shines enough light to educate the average reader.

Phyllis Vega's rituals and spells are simple and beautifully explained. My only criticism of this book is that I would have enjoyed it if there were more than one exercise per sign. This carefully written work is a good read as well as a fine source of what may be new information to many. I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in learning more about the world of the Druids, their sun own Sun and Tree sign, and those of their friends and relations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific!
This beautifully packaged book is a must for anyone interested in astrology or Celtic astrology. Phyllis Vega takes us on a magical mystery tour of the Celtic signs, from the Birch through the Elder and Nameless Day. She gives us the mythological backgrounds of each Celtic "tree" sign, vivid descriptions of people born under these signs, and shows how the energy has worked in their lives. There's also a separate section about Western astrology & on tree sign and Sun sign combinations. Highly recommended. ... Read more

Product Description
Understanding your previous incarnations can turn into a fascinating journey of self-discovery and healing. You can gain insight into destructive habits that may have begun in a past life -- and then create a more positive and creative new life.

Astrologer and regression therapist Jeanne Avery provides a simple yet profound way to understand one’s blocks and blessings. By focusing on the meaning of one planet -- Saturn, the planet of limitations -- Avery shows how we "pick our own type of gravity" that connects this life to our previous incarnations. This awareness can lead to greater insight into the meaning of one’s life, relationship patterns, and karmic lessons, and create the ability to let go of negative programming and situations.

Avery includes a number of case studies from her own practice, including remembered experiences as an Incan prince, a Christian martyr in the lion’s den, a queen of England and her lover, and a slave in ancient Egypt. Just like her clients, Avery’s readers will understand the links in their many lives. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books on Retrograde Planets
Retrograde Planets are often difficult to understand or explain.I don't believe that there are any good or bad charts or planets. There are Gifts and Challenges that are ultimately Opportunities for Growth and Spiritual Progressions.Martin Schulman explains the vibrational energies of the retrograde planets as they travel through the various houses.

It is very hard to interpret retrograde planets in a chart, particularly if you don't have any retrograde planets yourself. You will find that there is very little written about the interpretation of retrogrades and Schulman has done a very fine job of explaining the energy of this phenomenon in his book.
Every book in the series is excellent and together they make a nice "set" edition to your astrological reference library.

Product Description
A hilariously and startlingly insightful astrology guide for gay men.

Jill Dearman is a breakthrough astrologer for our time. No one has approached the stars with her sass and class ever before! Her guide to astrology for gay men is lively, revealing-- and naughty!

Sections include: in life, in bed, how to seduce him, doing him and dating him, how to last over the long haul, how to get rid of him, and the three faces of each sign.

And a complete compatibility profile of each astrological combination.
Amazon.com Review
Jill Dearman provides readers with a dozen templates for themodern gay male that could be viewed as archetypal or stereotypical, depending on how you feel about astrological profiling. "Cancer men ingeneral have weird mother fixations," for example, while Pisces "arecomplete and total whores" in bed. She described what each sign islike in life and in bed, then tells you "how to seduce him," what youcan expect on dates, "how to last over the long haul," and--should itprove necessary--"how to dump him." The second half of the book goesthrough all 78 possible matchups to gauge their compatibility, indicative of the book's implicit assumption that the reader islooking for a long-term relationship. Dearman addresses herselfexclusively to the gay male; bisexuals will just have to take theirchances on whether her information applies to them entirely, only byhalf, or not at all. --Ron Hogan ... Being an accredited astrologer myself, I was a bit cynical when I ordered this book.I expected the kind of vapid babble in the style of Joan Quigley or Linda Goodman.WRONG!This lady really impressed me with herknowledge, not to mention her salty wit!I am ordering more copies to haveon hand for gifts!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great New Book for Gay Star Gazers
As someone who loves to check out my daily horoscope, it's often frustrating to read predictions that have nothing to do with my life. It's great that Jill Dearman has written this new book, which is not only"out-and-out" hilarious, but also examines issues and mattersthat are very dear to me and my partner. In a remarkably fun and breezymatter, Jill covers a lot of territory and leaves me wanting more.I can'twait for her sequel!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Astrology Guide for Gay Men A Great Primer & More
Knowing little about astrology, I found this book an excellent way to find out what all the fuss is about what the stars have in store for us.I received this book as a present from my lover, and together we read it andlaughed over the many right-on insights Ms. Dearman had concerningAries-Taurus relationships.I really liked the way the author usedover-the-top humor and pop references to draw me in.She obviously takesastrology very seriously, and is generous in her evaluations and pointers. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who feels out of the loop when itcomes to horoscope matters.Well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars A humorous, well written and revealing love guide for men.
Finally, an astrology book for gay men that combines serious wit and worldly observations with revealing and unique case studies. No, Dearman isn't mild nor shy in her commentaries which may occasionally raise yourblood pressure. But the truth, Iquickly realized, is often not an easypill to swallow. She's right and she knows it. Thankfully, her humorousstyle eases reading about discoveries between certain sun signs that mayappear less than flattering. She's on your side and understands well thehonest and human foibles we all make. Also, I appreciated the paragraphafter each sign which stresses the importance of one'srising sign andmoon. Here she clarifies that sun signs never tell the whole story.Thesection on the Pisces man offers insight into why I continue makingdaunting journeys down familiar trails with the wrong guys. Dearman's voiceseems to come out of a strangely intuitive place, as if she's karmiclyconnected with the gay male psyche. She's speaking directly to you as sheoffers no holds barred sisterly advice to her gay brethren. I'll definitelybe referring my friends to this great book as they make their stabs intodating or settling down. Already,I make a point of referencingthecompatibility section before going any further than that first cup ofcoffee.

3-0 out of 5 stars Moderately accurate and mildly amusing but at times offensiv
From a book review in the gay spirit magazine Visionary:

Astrology is, I believe, a true science, and thus truth can be revealed in explication of the science, its method and mysteries. In this book, however, the author, who writes a popular astrology column for New York's trendy HX magazine, comes off as being far less a scientist with a firm grasp on her science asan ego-driven little girl who gets off on telling others the locus of whatshe perceives as their problems. Part One explores each sun sign: InLife, In Bed, How to Seduce Him, Doing Him and Dating Him, How to Last overthe Long Haul, How to Get Rid of Him, and explanation of of each sign'sthree decanates. In the second half, Dearman interprets sign compatability.Throughout, Dearman speaks in a disconcertingly removed voice Ð in theAries section, for example, she addresses not Aries men but their(potential) partners.Granted that writing an astrology book is a slipperyslope, making generalizations so specific as to make the reader believethat the book is written only for him or her. Yet even the author's broadcharacterizations are sometimes so off-target as to make myself, as well asseveral friends reading their pertinent material, feel as if our horoscopeswere not written for us at all. Underlying this sort of generalmisinformation is a tone which the author calls "irreverent," butwhich I felt was disparaging, often offensive. For example, at variouspoints the author asks pointless trivia questions, then denigrates thereader for not knowing the answer, calling the reader "idiot,""dumb," and other insults. Perhaps I grew up in a different eraof astrology (I had my first reading was in 1979), but it's always been myunderstanding that astrology is a compassionate art, not means for theastrologer to demonstrate her/his presumed intellectual superiority.Farmore authoritative is Michael Jay's Gay Love Signs (rev.ed., Penguin,1990). Although not as witty as Dearman, at least Jay regards his subjectand readers with genuine understanding without constant flippancy. Jay'sbook has none of acrid cattiness of Dearman1s to distract the aspirant fromlearning about the way of astrology, and from learning how the ways of theSun and planets is a way of knowing oneself and others. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars S T A R.....B R I G H T....!
MANY OF THE K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Series), books are excellent. Some are not that good. But ALL of them have the tagline: "The Only _____(fill in ssubject) Book You'll Ever Need".

"The K.I.S.S. Guide To Astrology", by Julia & Derek Parker, DOES live up, (delightfully!), to the K.I.S.S. motto! (Or at least for beginners, like me!)Full of delightful, beautiful, and thoughtful illustrations and charts, this book is full of easy-to-understand text, large print, good paper, and a binding which could be a BIT stronger, but is perfectly adequate if you do not pile other books on top of it!The chapters begin by going into astrological data with which even beginners are familiar, (the 12 sign of the zodiac, their encompassing dates during the year, and the basic personality each sign encompasses), and then go on to far more complex, (but always easily explained and understood), material, such as the various signs "at work", and what it means when another sign of the zodiac enters your "house". The Appendix is filled with detailed, (and I do
mean DETAILED!) charts on such things as 'Planetary Tables', "Moon Tables", and "How To Find Your Midheaven". These charts are in necessairily(????) teeny-tiny print size, (no, NOT necessairily, I don't think, as an even slighly larger type size would be very welcome), but the charts are in clear type, which can be read through magnifying glasses if necessary....) This is followed by a few pages of 'More Resources', on selected Books, Schools, Bookstores, and Organizations, (in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Australia!), and give complete addresses, phone numbers, and websites, where available.Herein is also inluded a selection of selected websites, for information on General Astrology, Astrological Books and Magazines, Astrological Newsgroups, Astrological Schools On-Line, Astrological Theories and Techniques, Sports, Weather, Medical, Psychological and Financial Astrology, and also an intriguing site for Horary Astrology, which, the book explains, is the art of asking a question and getting the answer from a drawn-up astrological chart. There follows, (as in all of the K.I.S.S. books I have encountered), a full index, and a list of Acknowlegements.

Some people say that astrology is really only a myth, because new planets, (namely Pluto and Neptune), have been discovered since ancient times, when astrology first began, and, anyway, the planets and stars have MOVED!Perhaps so -- but then, I think modern astrologers have changed their knowledge basis these new facts into consideration. All I know is that, whenever I read a basic description of my own Sun-Sign, it's so accurate, it almost looks like a psychological profile! However, I believe that one should not be "hemmed in" by the proclivities one is said to have, from one's astrological chart. An astrological sign or chart, to me, ONLY tells you what your habits, talents, and liabilities probably are; what you DO with these things is totally up to each individual! The authors of this book write with the same basic philosophy!

There is a great deal of information in this book's 429 pages. It may not get you an astrologist's certification -- but it can give you a basic, (and probably more than a basic), understanding of astrological ideas and protocols, if you truly apply yourself to this book, and read ALL the information in it.It can lead you to other sources, if you feel you need them. But there is SO much good, basic, and supra-basic information in this book that it reminds me of a (true!) story I once heard about a legal secretary....This lady had been a legal secretary for about 20 years -- and now she wanted to become a lawyer. One cannot become a lawyer merely by graduating law school -- though that undoubtedly helps. No -- the crucial step in becoming a lawyer is, of course, to pass the bar exam.(J.F.K. Jr -- despite being brilliant and knowledgeable -- had to three times before he passed it.)But this lady -- with NO law school study at all, and her 20 years as a legal secretary as her ONLY legal knowedge -- passed the bar exam the very FIRST time. : )I don't know if examinations are more crucial than a diploma, in astrological circles o not -- but if you read this book carefully and thoroughly, your astrological knowledge will certainly be far past the beginner's stage...and will make any further reading or training you desire, that much more easy to understand.Your knowlege, with this book, will increase astrologically -- er, I mean, astronomically!** : )

*******************************************************************

P.S.: I have looked on the website of the DK Company, and it seems they are now not now reprinting too many of their excellent K.I.S.S. books.I hope they will change their mind, soon, so that more people can be sure of getting this, and other excellent K.I.S.S. books!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but I I'm torn between this andParker's astrology
I have both Parker's Astrology and this book by the same author. Why buy this one if I already had the other?Well DK puts out good books for people who are left handed.ie right brain people. We tend to be able to grasp things faster with visual aids.In that respect this book was easyer to use than Parker's even though it essentially had about the same information. What makes me torn between the two? They didn't include the chart progression in this book and if they had I'd probably have given it a 5 instead of a 4.

If your interested in astrology and working your own chart by hand this book will help you do that much.It will also give you some information about what it all means. But unlike the first book Parker's Astrology it will not tell you how to progress the chart.if you just want to a copy of your natal chart though you can get it free at www.astro.com in minutes and the same results as doing it yourself. This a good book for all us right brained people who wanted to learn how to do it ourselves though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is an excellent general knowledge book.Great if you don't know a lot about astrology and want to learn.Like all DK books this one is illustrated beautifully.

4-0 out of 5 stars Liked it, but prefered Parker's Astrology
This is a good book to buy if you want to know more than the sun signs, but aren't sure where to start.

If you are familiar with Parker's Astrology, this book is by the same authors and is similiar to it, but it is smaller and on a more basic level than the former, which is good for somebody brand new to astrology.

Personally I prefer Parker's; it's more comprehensive--I don't want two books on my shelf that are so similiar. But like I said, this may be a great choice if you don't want to spend a lot of money and aren't sure if you are ready for the more detailed aspects of astrology.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great intro to Astrology!
I never understood my friends' fascination with Astrology until I was given this great book. This Kiss guide is so easy to read that I devoured the entire book in one weekend, and now I'm an Astrology fanatic! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Navigating the Stars
The book gives some foundational explanations to a complicated science - Jyotish astrology. It's clear that one cannot just pick up this book and start figuring out their 'star charts'. However, having a foundation and an introduction to the whys, wheres and soforths, are helpful. The examples of star charts of famous people was very interesting.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that great
This book assumes that the reader is already somewhat familiar with the topic. It is not a good book for an introduction into the topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars clear and insightful
Frawley's Ayurvedic astrology is the perhaps the best resource available for pratitioners of Jyotish or Ayurveda who are seeking ways to integrate these two Vedic sciences into a coherent system of true multi-dimensional healing. Few texts go into such depth when discussing these two systems, and Frawley also helps lift Ayurveda and Jyotish above the mundane level allowing the reader to glimpse a true vision of Cosmic healing. For any practioner or student of Ayurveda or Jyotish, look no further.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concrete and easy...
I have recently been studying some Ayurvedic related courses here and there, from Vedic astrology, doshas, pulse measuring, etc... This is a book that puts most of that together on an easy way. It avoids jumping into the very deep pool of knowledge that this disciplines have and keeps on a practical level which is very appreciated. ... Read more

Product Description

Evolutionary astrology holds the key to life's most profound mysteries: Where does the soul come from? How can we grow spiritually? What are our intended life lessons?

Shedding new light on these vitally important questions, well-known astrologer Rose Marcus has compiled a collection of illuminating essays by today's foremost evolutionary astrologers. Each contributor offers fascinating perspectives on evolutionary astrology and explores various aspects of Pluto's role in determining the soul's evolving needs and desires.

Jeffrey Wolf Green, the world-renowned founder of this specialized field of study, begins the book with an exploration of the four natural evolutionary laws that propel soul growth. Deva Green continues with a discussion of how Pluto drives our evolutionary growth, illustrated with case studies and charts of notable figures such as President Barack Obama.

Contributors also explore Pluto's influence on the sexual and relationship characteristics of each zodiacal sign, the fulfillment of human potential, the dynamics between twins, past life regression, the interpretive importance of planetary nodes, and the cultural significance of Pluto entering Capricorn.

Features original essays by Jeffrey Wolf Green, Deva Green, Kim Marie, Maurice Fernandez, Kristin Fontana, Patricia L. Walsh, Mark Jones, and Rose Marcus.

Praise:

"If you have ever wondered about the premises of evolutionary astrology, this book is a must read, covering many dimensions of the subject expounded by highly respected teachers, lecturers, and authors of the system as well as the founder himself, Jeffrey Wolf Green. It is insightful, inspirational, and even controversial, providing the reader with much to ponder."—CHRIS MCRAE, professional astrologer and vice president of the International Society of Astrological Research

"[Insights into Evolutionary Astrology] is one of the most insightful and original books on the subject of astrology that is currently in print. The articles are very diverse, well thought out and presented in an easily and understandable fashion for both the practicing astrologer and interested lay person." —LYNN NEESE, former president of both the Seattle Astrologers Association and the Washington Astrologers Association

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that truly lives up to its title
Rose Marcus has done an excellent job of compiling some of the many diverse applications of EA.The subjects are well selected.I thoroughly enjoyed the unique style and perspective that each author brings to a broad range of topics.

The first three chapters were covered very clearly by Jeffrey Wolf Greene, Deva Green and Kim Marie, respectively. The review of basic EA principles, the four main ways that Pluto affects/instigates evolutionary growth, and the evolutionary states is a very helpful prelude toward integrating the in-depth applications in the book as a whole. These chapters also provide a concise and easily understandable basis for those new to EA.

Maurice Fernandez's explanation of sexuality indicators in Chapter 4 shows how these indicators find expression through the various archetypes in relationships. He adds a new level of understanding to the role one's sexual relationships plays in the evolution of the soul.

Kristin Fontana seeks to answer the question most of us who have a serious interest in astrology have asked at one time or another in our studies, "How can twins have charts that look essentially the same, yet often have such different characters and personalities and lead such different lives?" She offers great insight into this phenomenon in her detailed delineation of example charts - similar charts, but different past-life dynamics, evolutionary intentions, and stages of evolution.

In Chapter 6 on planets squaring the nodal axis Patrician Walsh applies this principle to several example charts, providing us with a broader understanding and perspective that can be applied to other individual charts. Walsh, a certified past life regression therapist, does an amazing job of bringing the charts to life by drawing parallels between the past life stories and the current life natal charts.

Marc Jones brings to the forefront the relevance of the often-overlooked planetary nodes to the evolution of the collective as well as the individual soul in Chapter 7. The interconnectedness of these nodes with individual planetary placements offers a very expanded view of how our evolution is directly connected with historical archetypal themes.

In the final chapter, Marcus explains the Capricorn archetype and its ramifications for our world. She sheds much light on the collective challenges and choices of our times. It is a real eye-opener and a must-read for anyone seeking to expand their worldview.

This book is a worthwhile addition to any astrological library.

1-0 out of 5 stars Primum non nocere
I had high hopes for this book after reading the review. I ordered it specifically because the sub title stated that it is a diverse collection of essays by prominent astrologers. As a practicing astrologer of forty years I thought "I should read this book," so, I settled in for what I hoped to be an illuminating experience I could share with my clients. However I was quickly turned off for two reasons, the first being that most of the essays read like they were written by the same person, and second, there were too many sweeping statements about human nature and humanity that struck me as elitist. Therefore I cannot recommend this book, even though some parts of some of the essays have merit, and one in particular by Mark Jones offers a most lucid description of the planetary nodes.

To qualify my first criticism that it read (for the most part) like it was written by the same person was confirmed when I read the biographical sketch of each writer following their essay...all from the same school of astrology...Evolutionary Astrology. In fact, the introduction states that the book is a collection of essays by affiliates of the branch of Evolutionary Astrology, in particular, the "Jeffrey Wolf Green school of study" (pg. 1). Had the intro page been available through Amazon I might not have bought this book as I have read Greene's work and while I have gained insight I find it repetitive. Having said that, if you are looking for a book by students and colleagues of the JWG School of study, then this book may be for you. But, better be on your toes as there are many presumptive statements.

Overall, Evolutionary Theory according to JWG School, offers insight into the plight of those who are physically or spiritually challenged, or who are struggling in one way or another with understanding their soul work in the world or in relationship to others. In regard to others, explanations range from karmic payback for the disabled and disenfranchised in the de-evolved stage, to a "power-over" mindset in the consensus stage...borne of a desire to experience "separation and return" to the source.

Which brings me to my second criticism, and the true motivating factor behind this review, as this is where the tone of elitism rang out. In one essay in particular on the evolutionary theory, which seems to be endorsed by the group, there are several statements that were seriously unqualified. The author begins with a very concise description of the five stages of soul work - consensus, individuated, spiritual, dimly evolved and de-evolved. Captivated by the explanation for these stages of soul development I nearly fell out of my chair when I read Kim Marie's example of an individual in the de-evolved stage. According to the theory, most souls in this stage find themselves in the body of ahandicapped person "for whatever karmic reasons, they are being forced to experience the world through an experience they cannot control" (Marie, 2010, pg. 83). She goes on to say that these souls have "glassy, hard eyes, and their auras are angry and hateful." Now, even though the statement is succeeded by a disclaimer that these are not "better than" or "less than" judgments, the very suggestion that we can use a theory to pigeon hole another human being, especially a disabled person, to make assumptions about their personality, their feelings, the path of their pain, is an assault on our collective humanity, not a holistic or humanistic doctrine. I find this approach or justification for pain and suffering more along the lines of an expression of religious rationalism borne of the same reaction to the unknown that fostered the religious movements characterized by Evolutionary Astrology'sdescription of souls in the consensus stage. It is a fairy tale, a devise of denial, this belief that we can explain human tragedy away for the purpose of assuaging our own pain at the thought of it. And here lies the real insult, that all confined to a wheel chair are to be pitied, or are atoning for their past mistakes. There is clearly an element of guilt projected that cannot be exonerated by a disclaimer. To imply that a member of the human family is born disfigured because of past karma or misdeeds is no different than saying that Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans because God was punishing the Gays and Lesbians. Or, that all blacks are working through the same soul experience.

Along the same lines, literally speaking, the other critique is the assumption that Evolutionary Astrology can actually identify the percentage of souls in each group. For example those in the consensus stage represent 70% of the world's population; those in the spiritual stage represent 5% percent of the population, etc., etc. According to the theory people in the consensus stage (70% of the worlds population) bear striking similarity to what C. G. Jung described as the extraverted Westerner (for those who have not read his introduction to Wilhelm's "Secret of the Golden Flower", bear with me, the description is about to follow). Back to 70% in the consensus stage...with China and India leading the world with 40% of the population, and Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Nigeria, another 13.41%,. how can anyone with more than a high school education suggest that 70% of the world's population are working through a soul desire to "separate and return" while clasped to a "formalized, human made religion[s]...where the center of gravity is the ego....and in which God is interpreted as a perfect male entity that judges souls... ". More likely, 70% the world's population are irreligious not by choice but by a driving desperation to have at least one meal a day, a cup of water, a vaccine or an antibiotic and maybe shelter.

If you buy this book, please read it with a grain of salt and remember Primum non nocere .

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book at the Perfect Time!
This book is indeed filled with original insights! As an astrologer of over forty years I am very familiar with the writers of this book and their excellent past presentations so have been looking forward to this publication and I can say with all honesty that it is one of the most insightful and original books on the subject of astrology that is currently in print. The articles are very diverse, well thought out and presented in an easily and understandable fashion for the practicing astrologer and interested lay person as well.

Anyone searching to understand the world today will get a great deal out of this book as it certainly isn't your common ancient astrology rewritten.Jeffrey and Deva are both concise and articulate as we've known them to be in the past.Kim Marie's article on Evolutionary States goes into depth and clearly shows her excellent teaching skills.Maurice Fernandez's article on relationships and sexuality is so interesting and so original and also reflects his depth of knowledge on a very complex subject.

Rose Marcus has done an incredible job editing and putting this book together. In writing the last article herself I think she has accomplished a tremendous feat in her perspective of the Archetype of Capricorn. She has done an incredible job with the sign and her information on the Cardinal Cross and geographic details give us a clear and unique insight into the future of our world."Insights Into Evolutionary Astrology" is the perfect title to a book filled with insights, originality and enjoyable reading.I loved it!
