3-0 out of 5 stars Not for laymen!!!
If you are a scientist and can understand all the concepts in this book, then this book is for you. If you are a student who has been assigned this book, the best of luck to you. Perhaps Astronomy for dummies would have helped...

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
The book was poorly writen, often repeating the same idea multiple times within a paragraph, making the material harder to understand due to sentice structure and unrelated tangents. While this book is required for someclasses, if you can get by without it, do so. Perhaps they will write abetter one soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars new edition coming
A new edition will appear in summer 1999. The book has a new publisher, Kendall/Hunt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
Book was in condition as promised and arrived promptly.Great transaction - would definitely use this seller again =)

4-0 out of 5 stars Tales of a Shimmering Sky
A good source for teachers to find stories about the myths and legends of the constellations.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of a wonderful series...
All three Williamson "Tales alive!" books are great but of the three this is my favourite. The stories chosen are delightful and cover a range of sky related themes, eg. the sun, moon, stars, weather. The stories were not always the best known from a region (I noticed this with the Polynesian entry as that's my part of the world), and this was a definite plus for me.The activities are great - I work with slightly older children than the book is aimed at but could easily adapt them to suit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tales of the Shimmering Sky has something for everyone!
This collection of ten folktales from around the world (Native America, Slovakia, India, Europe, Canada, Polynesia, Mexico, Africa, and Scandinavia) focuses on the sky--heavenly bodies, the seasons, and the weather. In addition to Milord's colorful and creative stories, this resource also contains background information, science experiments, hands-on projects, games, arts and craft activities, and recipes. Children are invited to learn about the mysteries of the sky through exciting activities such as baking a batch of celestial pretzels, solving a lunar calendar puzzle, making a Beaufort scale to estimate wind speed, and flying an origami-style paper kite. ... Product Description

With this gorgeously illustrated book and activity set, kids can fly into outer space and take a guided tour of the sparkling night sky. It features so many appealing elements that make the astronomical journey special: a poster of the solar system, reusable planet stickers to place on the poster, a map of the constellations, and more than 100 glow-in-the-dark star stickers. And it’s all nicely packaged in an envelope bound into the book’s front cover. The trip begins with the sun, and then it’s on to the moon and an exploration of its cycles. Move farther out to gaze upon the stars and map out the constellations. Finally, children return to Earth to gain an understanding of our own special place in the solar system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
I ordered this book for a project on planets and the kids found it really interesting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stars Study Keepsake
This is a beautiful little book with lovely posters of constellations and planets, glow-in-the-dark stars, and stickers of the (nine--guess they hadn't heard the news yet) planets. I gave this book to each of my home-educated children (ages 5, 7, and 9) when we embarked on our studies of space this year. It is not a text book, but it is filled with interesting facts, and it will be a keepsake for them of our time spent this spring and summer gazing at the stars and the moon. At $10, it was not any more expensive than some other souvenirs we've bought, and it was a nicely illustrated, creative way to introduce them to what can be a scary and complex subject. ... Product Description
In WALKING IN SPACE: DEVELOPMENT OF SPACE WALKING TECHNIQUES, David Shayler provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of EVA techniques, for the first time outside NASA publications. The author draws on original documentation, personal interviews of astronauts with experience of EVAs, and accounts by those involved in suit design, EVA planning, and operations. Moving on from the pioneering of EVA techniques during the Gemini program, the author describes the basic requirements in terms of the equipment that every spacewalker needs, the development of training techniques - currently all completed on Earth - the surface explorations of the Moon by the Apollo astronauts and the numerous activities performed by Shuttle astronauts and those aboard the Salyut and Mir Space Stations, such as satellite servicing, equipment upgrading and repair missions. He also describes the development of techniques for ensuring crew safety during EVAs and looks ahead to future EVAs from the International Space Station and the development of new technology, including robotic assistance. ...
