5-0 out of 5 stars Bless Mr. Stone!
Stone's Guide is a necessity for both the serious aviation history
enthusiast and more casual "fans" who delight in discovering and
exploring the growing (and constantly changing) number of aviation
museums in the U.S.

While the number of such museum's is a "moving target" as some
close and others open and their respective collections tend to
change as airplanes are restored, traded, sold or (unfortunately)
destroyed, Stone does an excellent job of providing the most
current information.

Any guide in this genre is immediately out-of-date but Stone's
book is THE resource for travelers preparing an intinerary.

Not only does he provide the most current (and detailed)listing of each museum's aircraft (and other displays and resources), but he also provides information about their location (including the
exact address), hours of operation, special events, admission fees and telephone numbers.

The conveniently-sized book (suitable for tucking into a backpack, camera bag or carry-on)is illustrated with black and white photos and some listings include maps to assist the visitor.

A true "labor of love", this book is the best available and one
should look forward to all future editions. ... Read more

Excerpt: The Safety Promotion Center is a museum and educational center operated by Japan Airlines to promote airline safety. It is located in Ota, Tokyo, Japan, near Tokyo International Airport. A major objective of the Safety Promotion Center is to establish safety awareness among JAL Group staff. The main exhibits of the center explain the events leading to the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123, which used a Boeing 747. On August 12, 1985, Japan Airlines Flight 123, a flight from Tokyo International Airport (informally called Haneda Airport) to Osaka International Airport (also known as Itami Airport), crashed into Mount Takamagahara. The accident was the deadliest involving a single aircraft. The crash was eventually attributed to an improper repair in the rear bulkhead several years earlier, leading to catastrophic structural failure. A five-man panel of outside safety experts was established by Japan Airlines in 2005 and chaired by Kunio Yanagida, a well-known writer specializing in scientific, aviation, and crisis management topics. The panel recommended creation of the center. The center opened on April 24, 2006. Yutaka Kanasaki is the director. One of the main objectives of the center is to establish safety awareness among Japan Airlines employees. Despite its lack of publicity, the center receives more than 80 visitors every weekday. The center is located in an unmarked office building in the maintenance district near Haneda Airport, near the Seibijo Station on the Tokyo Monorail. It is open to the public, but reservations are necessary. Wreckage from the aft fuselage, the cockpit voice recorder, newspaper reports of the accident, and photographs of the crash site are on display at the center. The aircraft did not crash i... Excerpt: The Czartoryski Museum and Library was founded in Puawy in 1796 by Princess Izabela Czartoryska to preserve Polish heritage, in keeping with her motto, "The Past to the Future." The Puawy collections were partly destroyed after the November uprising and the confiscation of the Czartoryskis' property by the Russians. Most of the museum holdings, however, were saved and moved to Paris, where they reposed at the Hôtel Lambert. In 1870 Prince Wadysaw Czartoryski decided to move the collections to Kraków, where they arrived in 1876. Temple of the Sibyl, or "Temple of Memory"The first objects in the "Temple of Memory" were trophies commemorating the victory against the Turks at the Battle of Vienna in 1683. The Museum also features historical artifacts from the recovered treasures of the Wawel Cathedral, the Royal Castle and other objects donated by Polish noble families (szlachta). Izabela also bought the treasures of the Duke of Brabant, including his books which were considered a particular highlight of the collection. Influenced by the Romantic artistic movement, she also acquired objects of sentimental significance that represented the glory and misery of human life. Among these were Shakespeare's chair, fragments from the alleged graves of Romeo and Juliet in Verona, ashes of El Cid and Ximena from the Cathedral of Burgos, and relics of Abelard and Heloise, and Petrarch and his Laura. The librarys book collection was later enchanced with Tadeusz Czacki's collection, which included archives of Stanisaw August Poniatowski, la...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1764221 ... Read more

Excerpt:The Musée national de la Marine (National Navy Museum) is a maritime museum located in the Palais de Chaillot, Trocadéro, in the XVIe arrondissement of Paris. It has annexes at Brest, Port-Louis, Rochefort (Musée National de la Marine de Rochefort), Toulon and Saint-Tropez. The permanent collection originates in a collection that dates back to Louis XV of France. In 1748, Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau offered a collection of models of ships and naval installations to Louis XV of France, with the request that the items be displayed at the Louvre and made available to students of the Naval engineers school, which Duhamel headed. The collection was put on display in 1752, in a room of the first floor, next to the Academy of Sciences; the room was called "Salle de Marine" (Navy room), and was used for teaching. With the French Revolution, the Salle de Marine closed in 1793. The collection was added to models owned by the King personally, to others owned by the Ministry of Navy, and yet others owned by émigrés or executees (notably Philippe Égalité). A short-lived museum was opened between 1801 and 1803 at the Ministry of Navy, then located at Place de la Concorde. Model of the frigate Flore, one of the items of the Trianon collection. In 1810, Napoléon ordered a gallery of 19 models to be put on display in his offices at Grand Trianon, as to document the types of warships in usage in the French Navy at the time. Jacques-Noël Sané was put in charge of the task. Napoléon also had a model of the frigate Muiron in his bedroom...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=3719872 ... Read more
