5-0 out of 5 stars Wildlife Rescue Mystery
Catherine M.The book centers around Animal Ark hospital. The main characters are an elementary school girl and boy. They find a baby badger without a mother and raise him in the basement of the Animal Ark hospital. Together they solve the mystery of who is killing the badgers in their wild habitat.

I recommend this book to someone who likes mysteries and cares about wild animals. It is a good book for both boys and girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Mandy and James rescue a baby badger when they find it has been separated from it's mother. They then find out that there are a group of people in Welford hunting badgers. Mandy and James have to catch the badger hunters before they set the baby badger free into the wild or he could get hurt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Badger in the Basement
Badger in the Basement is a great book. I've read all 9 of the Animal Ark books, and all of the Animal Ark Pets books, but Badger in the Basement was my favorite. In this book, Mandy and James find a badger nest, butwhen they go back to the nest to check on the badgers, the nest has beendeliberately destroyed. All that is left is an orphaned badger cub.James and Mandy have to find out who did it. I think that people shouldread this book, because it's a great book, and a great series. ... Read more

Product Description

The badger is a large mammal, common but very rarely seen in Britain, which has become one of Britain’s best-loved animals. It is a very social animal, living in large family groups and maintaining large territories. It is its nocturnal lifestyle that make it so difficult to see. This new volume in the New Naturalist series reveals the extraordinary complex life style that allows this secretive animal to live in even the most built-up areas of Britain. It also reveals the facts behind the current role of badgers in transmitting tuberculosis to cattle, a theory that has resulted in some of the most intense wildlife investigation in the past ten years.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great travel companion
The guide is clear, concise and easy to read; doesn't get into too much detail but provides enough to make traveling around Wisconsin fun. Great for people who like road trips and learning more about Wisconsin's many local points of interest.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive
Except for college and graduate school years,I've lived all of my life in Wisconsin. This volume illustrated how little I know about my own state with its wealth of museum opportunities. It has whet my own desire to visit more of these small and large museums. If you like culture, history and museums of various kinds, travel with this book and enjoy another part of Wisconsin's heritage. The auther has done a fine job of research.

4-0 out of 5 stars Could have used a better editor
I picked up a copy of this book from my local library today, hoping to plan a summer vacation using the information therein. It's going to be a tough read if the rest of the book is filled with as many spelling and grammar errors as I found on the first few pages!Hopefully, the actual content of the book will be useful enough to overshadow this.If Mr. Rajer releases a second edition, I hope he finds a new editor.

5 stars for content, 3 stars for comprehension.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!
Great service. Fast, good condition. Perfect for an unpatient child who wants his book NOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amphibians take center stage
This book, the first of what would be three collaborations between writer David Badger and photographer John Netherton, puts a well-deserved spotlight on the amazing frogs and toads of the world.Although lizards are my own favorite herps, I also really like frogs and toads. And since they're the most visible and well-known of the amphibian part of the herp world, it seems like they're most people's favorite amphibians by default. The photographs in the book are so beautiful, going beyond just another book of frog and toad photos. The animals are captured at various angles, in various lighting, in various locales, and even struggling against nature, as in the picture of the poor greenhouse frog trying to extricate itself from a Venus flytrap.Mr. Badger discusses subjects such as reproduction, diet, the need to save amphibian populations, the potential medical breakthroughs they're hiding in their bodies (a number of frogs and toads secrete a veritable medicine chest), frog photography, humanity's relationship to the frog, the growing popularity of the frog in recent years, hearing, vocalisation, hibernation, and locomotion. He also provides short but sweet information on the various species profiled, along with maps showing where they live.

Among the frogs and toads photographed are the dart-poison frog, cane toad, glass large-eyed frog, White's tree frog, Chinese microhylid, pygmy banana frog, Pacman frog (the Argentine horned frog), red-eyed tree frog, barking tree frog, pickerel frog, Fowler's toad, Oriental fire-bellied toad, Eastern spadefoot toad, Surinam toad (one of the most interesting specimens in the book, to say the least), harlequin frog, and red-banded crevice creeper. Most of the frogs and toads I had been familiar with previously were the domesticated ones I'd read about in books on pet herps, so learning about and seeing pictures of all of these non-pet species was a real treat.A lot of times each picture seemed to be better and cuter than the last. It's a perfect book for someone who's already interested in herps, or someone who just wants a better understanding and appreciation of frogs and toads.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb pictures
This is another winner! One of most beautiful book on frogs I've found, and these books are hard to find. The pictures are awesome. Excellent work Mr. Badger! For more information on frogs check out "Frogs a chorus of colors" by Behler. Less pics but more info.

5-0 out of 5 stars Over fifty frogs selected for their unusual qualities
If frogs are the attraction, don't miss natural history writer David Badger's Frogs, which profiles over fifty frogs selected for their unusual qualities. There are over 3,950 species in the world, so it's unlikely even the most avid frog fan will have seen many of these fascinating photos. But Frogs isn't just a coffee table picture book; it pairs photos by John Neterton with David Badger's non-technical facts and observations, making for an outstanding result.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Frogs
Tired of seeing the same photographs in older books ? Try this book, you will not be disappointed with the spectacular original color photographs by well known nature photographer John Netherton. Accompanying text gives general description of frog sizes, habitats, mating habits anddistributions. This book is a definite must for any nature lover for itsphotos alone. ... Read more

The book was worth the price just to learn how to depict the fine scales of trout and the detailed painting techniques.
