5-0 out of 5 stars Buffalo Hearts Opens Eyes
I recently picked up a copy of Buffalo Hearts by Sun Bear when trying to visit one of my fiancé's friends.I briefly scanned the book and decided to take it along for future reading.Well, I forgot about the book for a while, like I am sure other avid reader do from time to time.Too many books and not enough time for reading all of them.Okay, back to the book.I started reading this book and was very skeptical at first.Wow, another book on " The American Indians." Well, I was completely wrong, this book was outstanding, I almost read it from cover to cover in one night, but I forced myself to slow it down and try and appreciate and understand the content of what author's work was tring to portray. The book was an easy read reagrding language and it flows very smoothly while containing a lot of details with regarding each of the specific Indians that was chosen for this book.I made sure to read each section related to the specific Indians at different times.Since I take the train to and from work, I read about one Indian in the morning and another during the evening commute.Wow!I even had fellow train riders ask me about what book I was reading and why I chose that specific one?In short, I found the book to be very informational and I found myself feeling bad for the Native American Indian's, peaceful people who only wanted to live free and roam their Mother Earth in peace on their own land that they inhabited so long before the outsiders settled in.The author also paints I would imagine a realistic picture about the French and the British settlers and how they came to America and took over not realizing at what expense the Native American's would suffer. Anyhow, I would recommend this book to others.Happy Reading!!! ... Read more

While Sun Bear's prophecies about the changes happening to the Earth are interesting and entertaining, they are in the end disproven by time. While all myths have an element of truth (such as his quoting of statistics and accurate portrayal of global warming), his last chapter predictions for the year 2000 are completely off.Iran has not been destroyed by earthquakes and there has not been a nuclear war in Israel.Perhaps you'd enjoy this book if you were researching a HIStory of prophecies. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Care Bears Paper Dolls
The book contains two pages of activities (draw your favorite CareBear and match each CareBear with his or her costume). The four pages of paper dolls are on a thick cardboard material with tabs on the outfits to help them stay on.The back cover has a Care Bears Collector's Card which you can cut out.The four CareBear dolls are all in the same pose, so the outfits are interchangeable, and both the outfits and the CareBears can be punched out easily.

I personally was not wowed by any of the outfits (chef, gardener, baseball champ, and explorer) nor the CareBears (Funshine Bear, Tenderheart Bear, Champ Bear, and Laugh-a-lot Bear) themselves.Overall, I would say these are a good starter paper doll set for young children, especially as a first set of paper dolls, but not that exciting for people used to Barbie or other paper doll sets. ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Sloth Bear, also known as the Labiated Bear, is an arboreal, nocturnal and insectivorous species of bear restricted to the Indian subcontinent.Originally, naturalists considered the sloth bear to be a species of sloth rather than a true bear. Because of this, the species has been renamed numerous times. After a sloth bear was taken to Europe for the first time in 1790, it was given the binomial name Bradypus pentadactylus, as well as the conventional names of "five fingered sloth", "sloth bear" and "ursine sloth". Meyer named the genus "melursus", while Fischer called it "chondrorychus". Shaw called it "Bradypus ursinus", while M. Blainville called it Ursus labiatus while Tiedemann called it Ursus longirostris. ... Read more

Kapitel: Carlos Castaneda, Galsan Tschinag, Xokonoschtletl Gomora, Rolling Thunder, Miguel Ruiz, Sun Bear, Jan Fries, Sorkhatani Beki, Davi Yanomami Kopenawa, María Sabina. Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Carlos Cesar Salvador Arana Castaneda (25 December 1925 - 27 April 1998) was a Peruvian-born American anthropologist and author. Starting with The Teachings of Don Juan in 1968, Castaneda wrote a series of books that describe his purported training in traditional Mesoamerican shamanism. His 12 books have sold more than 8 million copies in 17 languages. The books and Castaneda, who rarely spoke in public about his work, have been controversial for many years. Supporters claim the books are either true or at least valuable works of philosophy and descriptions of practices which enable an increased awareness. For several years, anthropologists considered his work authentic and important, but then a number of exposés questioned Castaneda's veracity. Academic critics now claim the books are works of fiction, citing the books' internal contradictions, discrepancies between the books and anthropological data, alternate sources for Castaneda's detailed knowledge of shamanic practices and lack of corroborating evidence. In his books, Castaneda narrated in first person what he claimed were his experiences under the tutelage of a Yaqui shaman named Don Juan Matus whom he met in 1960. Castaneda wrote that he was identified by don Juan Matus as having the energetic configuration of a "nagual", who, if the spirit chose, could become a leader of a party of warriors. He also used the term "nagual" to signify that part of perception which is in the realm of the unknown yet still reachable by man, implying that, for his party of seers, don Juan was in some way a connection to that unknown. Castaneda often referred to this unknown realm as nonordinary reality, which indicated that this realm was indeed a reality, but radically differen...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ... Read more

Description:
Six Malayan sun bears were captured and radio-collared from June 1999 to December 2001 in Ulu Segama Forest Reserve, Sabah, Malaysia Borneo to study home-range characteristics, movement patterns, activity patterns, population density, and bedding sites. A total of 343 locations were recorded. Home range sizes, calculated by the 95% adaptive kernel method, averaged 14.8+/-6.1 (SD) km^2. Bears were found in both primary and logged forests. Daily movement distances from these bears averaged 1.45+/-0.24 (SD) km, and were affected by food availability, especially availability of figs. Male Malayan sun bears were primarily diurnal, but a few individuals were active at night for short periods. The majority of the 26 bedding sites consisted of fallen hollow logs. Other bedding sites included standing trees with cavities, cavities underneath fallen logs or tree roots, and tree branches high above the ground. Malayan sun bears exist in primary and logged forests. Well-designed logging practices, maintenance of large trees with cavities, protection of fig trees, and strict control of poaching should be incorporated into forest management practices in logged forests. ...
