Making the invisible visible
Tim Giago has provided a poignant look into a segment of American history that few know about and others wish was not known. The legacy of Native American Indian children compelled to attend parochial boarding schools has not been a good one. Tim presents a balanced, first-hand depiction of life in a mission school and the abuses suffered at the hands of so-called "Christian" officials and staff. Leadership is an art and honed by practice.
I am person, from the lower-middle class, who went to public school, state universities for my B.S. and my Masters.When I read this book and the book, of The Art of Getting Things Done by Richard Brislin, several years ago, I began to understand the political deftness and self-confidence of people I meet who came from well to do families.From birth, they model the lives of their parents who are highly paid professinals in professional service firms like law or accounting or high-powered exectives in Fortune 500 corporations.As both books point out,then through have these behaviors ingrained until adolescence, where then private education's honing influnce takes shape.The practice of self-government of the schools by the students, a ruthless ethos of performance and results of making the grade, practicing behaviors that are the signals of leadership are honed in the classroom'sdemanding education and the politcally charged enviornment outside the classroom.It was a huge "AHA" momement about myself.For example politicians, John Kerry and George Bush both went to the same private school.Barrack Obamas went to private schools in Hawii paid for by his grandparents.I better understand my limitations and constraints and why I have hit certain ceilings in my life.The system does reach down and pull in the highly intelligent and promising candidatesfrom the outside to bring in new blood.However, these are the extreme outliers on the bell curve.Throughout history, the rich and powerful have been sought to pass on to their offspring these mindsets and behaviors.

Interesting, Readable Account
I read this book for a class of mine on education. I had never really known much about boarding schools until this book. It is a readable and accessible account of boarding schools; although, this book is slightly out of date as the information was from the 80's. The income and tuitions numbers are completely off by today's standards. Other than that, for us who have gone through public schools and any non-elite schools, it is a glimpse into the world of the elite education. My instructor did e-mail one of the authors, Cookson, and learned more about his background. He was not from any elite boarding school, where Persell did attend a boarding school. Interesting, is that these types of schools produce such outstanding alumni and yet no one really knows about them. I'm sure the information is getting out of date; the copy I had had yellowed pages and was printed in 1985. Yet, it is still interesting for people interesting in educational differences and opportunities. Or just very curious people.

great book, although dated (80's), lots of info, stats, and gives a good feeling to what life is like in and out of the elite boarding schools.

A well thought-out study of the prep school experience.
I enjoyed the anthropological-based approach of this book.The methods and collection of material seemed appropriate and balanced.It also kept my attention with great quotes and inside opinions. A must read for anyone interested in the prep-school experience - just remember that the material is a bit out of date.

Great series, great book
Cornelia Read's is my new favorite author.I read a lot, especially mysteries and it is a
rare treat to find a new writer of books I can't put down. The plots are interesting and
the characters that people her books come to life for me.Crazy School packs a wallop,
with one of the most unexpected endings in my reading history. I enjoyed the book so much
I immediately headed out to get the earlier two books in the series and was not disappointed.

Read poses moral and ethical issues and avoids obvious easy answers.She's an author of great talent
and perception...when is her next book coming out?

A crazy ride
My thoughts...For me, reading The Crazy School was a bit like riding a roller coaster.It has its ups and its downs.Let me start with what I liked about the book.The plot of this story contains a huge mystery to be solved.This mystery is written in a way that you have no idea who can be trusted, who is lying, or manipulating everyone in the story.I second-guessed everyone.The characters were interesting.It is my understanding that the school portrayed is based on an actual institution.In today's society it seems to be a stretch that places like this exist, however the book takes place in 1989. While shocking at times, I found it believable, scary but believable.

The Crazy School has quite a bit of shock value.I was shocked by the way the students and the teachers conversed.I was shocked by the language and innuendos.Initially (mainly due to the cover), I thought this was a YA story.It's not.I stumbled through parts of the story because I wasn't sure if certain parts were an attempt at crude humor or a display of the twisted reality of this school.

Overall, I liked the book.Cornelia Read has a unique writing style that won't appeal to everyone, but would entertain a wide range of readers.

Crazy Teachers, Crazy Students, Crazy School!
//The Crazy School// by Cornelia Read reads like two books, the first is an account of the troubled life at a school for troubled youth where the teachers themselves are people with troubled pasts.The idea is that the troubled are best suited to help the troubled.Madeline Dare is a troubled woman who needs a fresh start and finds one as a teacher at the school but soon comes to mistrust her fellow faculty members and their methods.

Read's style and humor keep the pace and interest in this first part just long enough to get into the second act, about midway through, when this book turns into a page turning and compelling mystery.Madeline is plunged into the case as a suspect and very likely as the only person who cares enough about the deaths of two troubled kids to ever get to the bottom of it.

Needless to say, the second half of this one is much better than the first.That is, of course, until Read combines the smallest of details given throughout the book in a powerhouse final chapter that will leave you cheering.Well plotted out, this book just keeps gaining momentum and is well worth the read.Don't miss it!

A Tough School
A tough school for problem children offers Madeline Dare a job as a history teacher. Madeline needs this job, but the load she is carrying of her own problems is less than ideal for her students.
Madeline must keep working because her husband lost his job. There allows her to overlook many things until her own sense of rightness forces her to take another look at the students and their environment.
It is difficult to write a thriller in any educational setting and THE CRAZY SCHOOL does not crawl past the barrier.

Interesting enough
This book was a rather quick read. The flow had its choppy moments, but the plot was interesting enough. Madeline Dare is employed at a boarding/mental health school for youth circa 1989. There is the evil, idealistic headmaster/founder and his followers that are not unlike other material on the subject. However, Madeline's voice is biting and sarcastic which is refreshing for such a topic. She becomes the unassuming heroine and the ending has a nice twist to tie up loose ends. ... Read more

Intense Thriller for the Younger Set

I've really been enjoying reading these Boarding School Mysteries.First off, the mysteries are not predictable, and the story lines are done really well. It's nice to see that even though the target audience is for a younger set, the author doesn't dumb down the plot and creates a good thrilling story.I really like Jeri's character and if I were at Landmark I would seek her out to be friends.In this story Jeri begins to reconcile with her father and build up their relationship again.The blackmailing done on Rosa is rather alarming at the trouble it causes.The threats are actually quite harsh. This book is actually quite intense as it involves adults putting students in perilous situations.I was actually really quite surprised by the ending as it was not who I had expected.It's actually pretty scary to be in that situation especially when it's someone that you trusted.I would recommend this book for at least upper middleschoolers due to the intensity of the situation.That being said, I really enjoyed this book and this series so far.I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.Hopefully one day, I'll be able to solve the mystery before the end of the book!

A Mystery That Will Keep You Guessing
Loved this book in the series, I felt like I was right there in the book with the characters.

Can faith, courage, and the truth win out?
Jeri McKane's best friend Rosa is being blackmailed. If the creep isn't paid, Rosa will be expelled from school. But that's not the worst of it, Rosa thinks Jeri is blackmailing her. After all, Rosa only told Jeri her big secret.

Jeri sets out to find who the blackmailer is only to find others are now being blackmailed, including herself. Where did the blackmailer find cruel information about her father?

Can Jeri stop the blackmailer from spreading hurtful information before reputations are ruined and Rosa gets expelled?


I'm having fun with this series. I pretty much figured out who the culprit is in this story, but I still see-sawed a bit thinking:" Naw, couldn't be! Could it?"


The scene when the blackmailer is caught is thrilling. All I have to say is: I'm now hooked on this series. I don't have book #3 Smokescreen and #4 Pick Your Poison, but I will look for them in my nearest book store.

For anyone wanting a good read but needs a little break from full-length books, I recommend this series to satisfy your book craving without consuming too much time.

Rotten School, Beastly fun!
Bernie Bridges tells the story in #13 of the Rotten School series by R.L. Stine. A 4th grader in this co-ed boarding school, Bernie wants to win Most Popular Student and have his photo printed in the yearbook. The cake has to do with the birthday party he tries to get his friends to hold for him (even though it is not his birthday). You won't have to do much promoting to get this series of books in the hands of your (especially boy) students. The print is large and enticing, the chapters are short and filled with situations that are everyday occurrences for kids (The Stomp Game), characters with names like Leif Blower, April-May June and Mr. Pupipantz, and the eyeball-rolling gross humor that keeps kids hooked. Absolutely essential are the B&W drawings of Trip Park, which interpret the text to the nth degree. Let your students chow down on perfect English, grammar, punctuation and writing style without torture. For a change they'll be reading (and getting what's good for them) for fun.

Rotten School
RL Stine has done it again with this book series. Rotten School books are an excellent choice for all kids. Especially if you are trying to get them interested in chapter books. My kids love this!!

My son, 10 y.o., will read if necessary, when he has to.Until we stumbled upon the "Rotten School" series by R.L. Stine (16 books)- now he will read, just to read! Finally, he has learned the joy of reading (I'm a reader) that I have tried to instill in him from the day he was born.He has read excerpts from the book to me and I can understand why he likes them, they hit his funnybone and make him laugh - but at least he's reading!We bought the whole series at once after he was only half way through one book.He would also recommend "Diary of a Whimpy Kid" - there are 2 books out now, a third is to be release later this year.

This is a Great Series

A Good Mystery

2 out of 4 stories were good!
With the grand exception of Renee Bernard, I have read (and enjoyed) books by the three 'known' authors. A quick search on google, amazon and fantastic fiction (a wonderful site I urge everyone to go to) showed that Miss Bernard hasn't had a new book published in quite a while (nor does there seem to be another mentioned...but she admits to being a bad blogger so maybe that's why there's no info?). The three she has out (part of the 'Mistress Trilogy') I've never heard of nor read, so this was my only sampling of her work.

"Ten Reasons To Stay" is a continuation to a subplot in Only a Duke Will Do. In Duke Simon mentions wanting to help his half-indian cousin reclaim his rightful inheritance as the Earl of Monteith and by the end of the book has helped to find evidence for that. Ten Reasons picks up a few months or so after that when Colin has just moved in and trouble besets him. From the way Colin was described in Duke I had expected someone...less brash? Less intimidating?...and was pleasantly surprised by the rather piratical Colin Hunt. The story is quick and has more plot conveniences then in the other Heiress titles--but its a short story so that's forgivable. I liked Colin a lot and I mostly liked Eliza. She was very ready to jump to conclusions, so that kind of grated on me. I guess only Eliza's Uncle Silas can really be considered as another character since he has the third most lines...our of four characters who talk, probably deserved less latitude then Eliza gave him. He was damned lucky. I would have tarred, feathered and sent him ot Newgate previous affection or not.

No familiar faces pop up, but Louisa, Simon and Mrs. Harris are all mentioned. I found it amusing that the original creator of the Heiress books used none of her own creations in the story while the other authors felt free to.

"After Midnight" is like viewing a courtship in reverse. Martinique (who's name gives me issues to keep typing) is feisty, playful and both very aware of her good looks and not really aware of why she is sought after (she assumes because of her money, which I guess helps). Justin, St. Vrain, is a little off-putting at first, through no real fault of his own, but is charming quick enough. He honestly doesn't mean to be quite as disreputable as his reputation makes him out--yes he ran off with his stepmother, yes he likes to bed women, but when push came to shove he genuinely wanted to do the right and honorable thing by Martinique. Martinique however, was a different story. If I ignore the somewhat cliche sex scenes (though interestingly its really a role reversal--Justin is saying 'No, let's make this honorable!' and Martinique is saying 'Let's just go make love--no strings attached!') I quite enjoy the story itself. Reading as Justin does everything in his power short of kidnapping Martinique to agree to make an honorable man out of him was really fun.

Martinique was a vixen--she wasn't above blackmailing Justin into coming to her bed and she doesn't deny their attractive to each other. I wish there had been more about why her Uncle was such an odd duck in regards to her--some explanation was given, but there still lacked a sufficient motivation honestly--but was content enough. It was a short story, so of course surrounding characters were given less attention then our central two.

"The Merchant's Gift" Oh I wanted to slap Grace until she begged for mercy. Arrogant! I felt so bad for poor Barrett. Grace didn't mean anything malicious by her actions or words, but she didn't give any thought to them either. She was such a puppet of her family's expectations (or at least her father's expectations) that it was a little hard to stay mad at her for long though. Barrett was beyond understanding in my opinion--the man deserved a medal for his patience. Other then minor irration over Grace's thoughtlessness I didn't give the story too much thought otherwise. It was good, but perhaps needed a longer format.

"Mischief's Holiday" This kind of stood out from the other three stories. I can't really tell if its because I was not used to Bernard's writing style, or if it was really just so different. In all honesty I was rather indifferent to the characters and final outcome. I felt bad for Alyssa, because she really does have a lot of extraordinary circumstances, but that's all. I really liked the letter at the end though, from Alyssa to Mrs. Harris detailing all that transpired during her holiday. That was cute and funny.

So overall I enjoyed half the book's stories. I think that both the end stories would have been more interesting given more space and fleshing out--certainly Julia London's story was fun, but suffered from making Grace look like such an arrogant priss I couldn't understand her sudden turn around.

With friends like these, who needs enemies
Honestly, I am glad that I started with another of the latter books in Sabrina Jeffries' School for Heiresses. If I hadn't I would've burned the series and never bothered to read the rest. What a disappointing part of the series. The stories are completely devoid of tension or reality. I couldn't feel a single strand of sympathy or empathy for any of the characters except poor Colin who in Story 1 who possibly deserved Angel Wings for his patience. Story 2 (Martinique's) was so confusing that I found the subplot to have more interest and tension than the romantic story itself. However, like the other stories, the romance is tied up nice and neat while the more interesting subplots are just left hanging. Frustrating read. I had to force myself to finish and stories.

Great collection from fantastic authors!
Loved this collection of holiday stories about Ms. Harris' School for Heiresses! Loved Sabrina Jeffries' story of course, since she is the creator of the series. She captures scenes so well, and my only complaint was that I wanted more! Renee Bernard is a new-to-me author and I absolutely loved the short story she contributed. I'll be looking for more from her in the future.

"The School for Troublemakers"
This Anthology was good to an extent.It should have been named"School For Troublemakers"!This is a good quickie.All heroines in this story comes from the same school but written by different authors.I recommended for those who are Regency romance readers.

The Merchant's Gift by Julia London

Grace Holcomb's father insists she marry a wealthy and titled gentleman.He has done everything in his power to mold Grace into the proper young lady, but she still lacks suitors.Barrett Adlaine is a merchant and unfortunately for Grace, he's the only man she is attracted to.Barrett wants Grace, but in order to have her he'll have to convince her that true love is worth more than a title.

Grace disappointed me in The Merchant's Gift.I thought she was weak and that she hurt poor Barrett's feelings knowing full well how it feels to be cast out of society.I did love Barrett though, and the ending is very romantic.

Mischief's Holiday by Renee Bernard

Alyssa Martin has gotten herself in trouble again.She seems to find it even when she is determined to stay away from it.When Leland Yates saves her from a carriage mishap, then turns out to be a guest at her father's home, Alyssa is sure her troubles are just beginning again, but she may be in for a surprise when sedate, quiet Leland decides that he likes the kind of trouble Alyssa brings to his life.

Mischief's Holiday is a very tender and romantic story.Alyssa is sweet and endearing and Leland is very sexy.I wished this had been a longer story.I wanted more!

The School for Heiresses has a good group of stories in it.There is romance, passion, and drama in each one.There is a common theme in the stories but they each stand alone nicely

RL Stine has done it again with this book series. Rotten School books are an excellent choice for all kids. Especially if you are trying to get them interested in chapter books. My kids love this!!

Another Bummer
I heard this is the last book in the RBSD series, and I'm fine with it. My relatives can stop buying them for me! I've moved on to Ballet Friends, a brand new ballet series, perfect if you liked RBSD. Books 1 and 2 just came out! There's more coming, too, that they listed inside the book. Book one is Ballet Friends: Get to the Point! and book two is Ballet Friends 2: The Rise of Beezilla. I've read them both 10 times and they're absolutely the best books ever.

The Royal Ballet books are OK but sorta boring.I do ballet and like to read so I've been looking for books about dance.Today I was really surprised when I found the web site for a new series called Ballet Friends.It looks awsome and really really funny!!They got tons of cool stuff like funny stories and quizes like in J-14.It's also got free music like Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani.You gotta check it out.[...]

good story yet again!
This time around it is Ellie with the problems, instead of her helping someone else. She is back at the RBS after the student's half-term vaction. Ellie is anxious to see her new boyfriend, Luke, and to spend time with him. Ellie's life has now become very difficult as she tries to juggle ballet, school, Luke and her girl friends, and to practice for the school's production of Swan Lake. Soon, she messes up everything and she realizes something must go, but what?

This is a good story, especially for young ones who want to dance for a living to show just how hard it is to be a ballerina and the desire it takes to become one.

Boys or Ballet?
Ellie and the gang are back together except that Ellie isent intrested in them has much as she is in her new boyfriend. Ellie loves hanging out with her new boyfriend and things get even better when talk about the christmas production Swan Lake starts up. Excellent Author!
My son loves R.L. Stein books! He also writes the Goosebump book series if your kid is into scary stories. These Rotten School books are funny and witty and really hold my 9 yr olds attention (slightly ADHD). He has the whole series. Definately buy from here or other online site offering free shipping before you drive to your local bookstore. The prices are cheaper, you won't spend gas, you won't get begged for everything under the register, and the shipping is free.

I read the other review and checked out the new BALLET FRIENDS BOOKS series on their site balletfriendsbooks.Thanx for the heads up!! It's SO COOL!!! I spent all night checking out all the cool stuff, reading about the books, and groovin to the free tunes.The site's really pretty too!! It's all Hello Kitty and butterflies.Anyway i don't care for Royal Ballet books at all.I got one for Christmas and was very disappointed. It was like preachy and stuck up and i hated all the issues the author tried to push.It was so annoying.Ballet Friends Books is like the opposite cause it's all about having fun and giving the readers what they want. I can't wait to get my hands on it!!!!!

Another great installment
Ellie and her ballet friends returned to The Royal Ballet School's Lower School after a half term break. During the break the girls found out about the results of their appraisals. Hard working and talented Ellie easily passes her appraisal, yet she worries that some of her other friends, particularly Sophie, might not make it. Ellie's concern is deepens when Sophie returns and just doesn't seem to be acting like herself. Good old Ellie tries to help Sophie is whatever way she can, all the while working hard at her own ballet.This is another wonderful ballet story that will entertain anyone, but especially young ballet students. As I stated in my reviews of the previous books, the only negative comment I can make, is that it can sometimes sound like an advertisement of the R.B.S., which is fine, but can be annoying at times.

THE BEST BOOK EVER!
I absolutly LOVE these books! Not just Sophie's Flight to Fancy, but all of them! In fact, I just finished reading #4 today, and I was sad that it was over. (And no, not sad because Sophie is leaving)Every time I finish these books, I wish I had them all so I could just keep reading. I'll be sitting in school wondering when the next possible chance to read them will be. It's espeically interesting because I am a dancer, as well. Reading about the dance classes was my favorite part. Moss put it into so much detail, that I felt as if I was there. (Now I have a craving for fish and chips, even though I hate fish and chips! She just made it sound so good, that it made my mouth water)And I'm not the only one who says this. My entire dance class, plus some of my friends read these books. We adore them! But they don't just appeal to dancers. If you are not a dancer, or if you know little about dancing, Moss has a handy Glossary in the back of the book, explaining the common terms used. As for Sophie leaving, it is sad, but that's what makes it so good! That's what keeps it interesting. Now I can't wait to read #5 because I am wondering who will replace her, if they'll still keep in touch, ect. This book get a 5-star rating, no doubt about it. I really hope she writes more, because I'm already on the 5th book!

Sophie's Not Coming Back, Oh No!!
Reporter's Opinion: I thought that this book was sad because I really hoped that Sophie would win the choreography competition and be allowed back into the Royal Ballet School. She didn't get let back in.

Summary: It was a week after the appraisals and they all passed it, but Sophie didn't. She was appraised out. Sophie is only going to stay in the Royal Ballet School until the summer. They all soon found out that there would be a choreography competition. Sophie and Grace both entered and they both passed. The winner was Grace, but the judges made an honorable mention to Sophie's dance; Flight of Fancy. At the end of the year, Sophie leaves to start her new Performing Arts School.
My least favorite part was when Sophie had to go. She was my favorite character in the story!!

A great story about the new girl in school and crushes!
This is the 7th book in The R.B.S. Diaries series. Ellie and her friends are coming back to the school after a break and are going to be Year 8 students. They have to start new classes with new teachers and are looking forward to their new uniforms and a new dorm. The only thing that the girls aren't happy about is that their friend Sophie will not be coming back to the school. Yet, they are surprised to find out that there is a new girl (Molly) that has taken her place. Ellie, always compassionate and helpful, takes Molly under her wing to help her out. All the other girls instantly like Molly, except for Bryony. Ellie doesn't know what Bryony's problem is with Molly, but as always, she is determined to make them friends yet! Meanwhile, Ellie has developed a crush on one the guys! This is yet again a rewarding read. And as I stated in my previous reviews in the series, the only thing that I don't care for in The R.B.S. Another wonderful read in the series
In the fifth installment of The Royal Ballet School Diaries, the girls' start their first summer term. Ellie and her friends are thrilled when they learn that two past R.B.S. students, who are now world- renowned dancers, will be filming a documentary at the school. Everyone is ecstatic for the opportunity to meet the dancers and get a chance to be on film -- except for Kate. Ellie doesn't understand why and tries to find out. The girls are shocked to learn why, but with Ellie around, no one can be upset for long. This is just another example of how to be a good friend and realize that some problems are not as bad as they seem. As usual with the series, it is a good story about ballet and friends. Everyone will enjoy this book, and also the series. And as I stated in my previous reviews in the series, the only thing that I don't care for in The R.B.S. Diaries are that at times they can sound like a R.B.S. advertisement. Other than that, it is highly enjoyable!

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good
This book is so good! It's my favorite so far. As I was reading it, I just couldn't put it down! My mouth was wide open in shock as I read it. I think anyone who reads this book will just absolutly love it, even if you don't dance. The only thing is that you have to read the other 4 before reading this one, otherwise it'll be hard to follow. Hey, it is a series!

A great book series for Kids
If your kids hate reading or love it, get these books. These books will keep their attention and have them coming back for more. If you are trying to get your kids into chapter books, get these. RL Stine has done it again. Great Books (all of them)

Great series for boys!
I have enjoyed watching my 10 year old boy read this series.He thinks this book series is funny and has story ideas that are on his level.He has also enjoyed the Mostly Ghostly series by R.LStine. (all eight books!)It is the first series that I have seen him read through faster than any other books in the past.It is great to see your child reading for fun and not because he is being told to read.I would recommend this series if you have a child who doesn't always "want" to read.This series may draw him in and get him wondering what is on the next page!

Rotten School will have young boys laughing
This is the fourth book in Stine's newest series "Rotten School". Very humorous and full of that toilet humor young boys are so fond of, this book will appeal to fans of "Captain Underpants" or the books by James Marshall. The fourth grade football team at Rotten School known as the "Rotten Apples," has never won a football game. At least not until Jennifer Ecch joins the team, wanting to be close to her boyfriend Bernie Bridges. He refers to her as the Nightmare Girl, but if she can get the team to win with her large size and blocking abilities, that's just fine with him. In fact, if she can lead the team to the National Championship he will even wear the 10 sweaters she plans to knit for him that read, " Bernie loves Jen" and he'll get a date with the beautiful cheerleader April-May June. Unfortunately after winning every game Bernie realizes that the last game must be played against the roughest team, the "Bone Breakers" and he sets out to find a way to sabotage their winnings. Illustrated in black and white line drawings with washes of gray and includes a map of the Rotten School campus. The book is chock full of stereotypical characters - the cheerleader, the rich kid, the athlete, the geek - which fit perfectly with the style of the book. Humor abounds with names like R.U. Dumm Football Field and Headmaster Upchuck, illustrations of the Hammerhead Sharks showing their helmets in the shape of hammerhead sharks, and puns throughout. Good teaching resource that holds kid's attention
My bilingual nine year old son enjoys reading this book to me and I enjoy reading it to him.He lives in a Spanish speaking environment and this keeps him using his English to preserve both languages.

You can't keep a good book on the shelf!
Jovial Bob Stine meets (shudder) R.L. Stine in this new series called Rotten School, an elementary boarding school for boys and girls. The Teacher From Heck (Book 8) features a super duper sneaky water fight between two dorms, some battles even taking place in the classroom behind the teacher's back. Mrs. Heine gets in the way, gets soaked, and gives up with these kids. She asks for a transfer to another grade and dorm. The new teacher hails from a town called Heck, and he is really strict and takes no nonsense from the misbehaving students. Mr. Skruloose even threatens expulsion for the rottenest ones! Now Bernie and his gang not only have to win the water fight, but they need to get rid of the teacher from Heck and get Mrs. Heine back, since she is usually totally oblivious to everything. Situations occur that are true in real life, as well as unlikely riotous dilemmas. That's the spooky part of this Stine series--the actions of these zany characters can be horribly real. Told in the first person by Bernie, it is well-written with excellent grammar, punctuation, textual variations, and is loaded with plenty of gross and corny boy-humor. Aptly and engagingly (and hysterically) illustrated by Trip Park, this series will appeal to reluctant and avid readers alike.

My 8 yr old loves it!
What 8 year old doesn't like gross stuff and stories about bodily functions.He laughs and it gets him to read.We bought the first rotten school book at a book store in an airport and are now pre ordering each one.He can't wait for the next one!

These Kids Make Dennis the Menace Look Angelic!
They finally did it. Bernie and his pals at Rotten School have driven Mrs. Heinie out of their dorm and out of their class. Her replacement is Mr. Skruloose, and he's all military! Four hours of homework seven days a week, no slouching, no sucking up? This guy is NUTS! With Bernie's mortal enemy, Sherman Oaks, claiming victory to the Water War, this Skruloose dude has got to go! Now, the problem is how to get rid of this dude and bring back Mrs. Heinie...

R.L. Stine, famous for his Fear Street, Goosebumps, and Mostly Ghostly series has moved beyond frightening kids to making them hurl with laughter. No good can come of Bernie's antics, and that's the way he wants it. Crammed full of crude humor and mischievous pranks, The Teacher from Heck will appeal to kids tired of sappy do-good stories.

Some parents, however, will take exception to ideas like the dog used to squirt water out of its butt, water blasting the clothes of another fourth grader, and a headmaster named Upchuck. If kids and parents are okay with the "Captain Underpants" and "Farting Dog" series, then this will be a heck of a read. If easily offended, however, another title might be more appropriate.
