5-0 out of 5 stars Really good book to read.
He may not be perfect in the eyes of his enemy but this book will tell you what kind of a man he is. I love him before and reading this book make me respect and love him even more..God Bless President Bush.

1-0 out of 5 stars Faith in what?
Has anyone noticed that this same author wrote a book called The Faith of Barack Obama?
He makes both of these men out to be Christians because of their faith in the God of the Bible.
But the only faith that these two men share is the same faith so many so called Christians in America hold to and that is the faith in BIG GOVERNMENT.
Though using different routes both men are leading this country in the same direction-Down.
Both men believe in saving the world through the New World Order and not through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you want to vote for a true Christian and for real American values vote for the Constitution party Candidate.
Thank you

1-0 out of 5 stars What a load of crap
You "evangelical" biblethumpers really are a piece of work.George W. Bush took you for a ride -- flim-flammed you all the way and you fell for it.

Bush is a skirt-chasing, cocaine-snorting, boozing frat boy.Always was, always will be.But -- he memorized all the right phrases, told you about how he was "saved," promised to outlaw abortion and gay marriage (How's that working out for ya'?), and you dimwits fell for it.

Bush's "faith" is in the bottle and himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great revelation
Best book I've read about any president. This man was a true man of faith, and was hated for it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A true Man Of God
I am so glad that other loving Christians have taken this book and one of our finest presidents to heart.

Jesus may have said that we should turn the other cheek, but He certainly didn't mean that we should not seek revenge on the Saudis who bombed us on 9/11 by bombing Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes, thou shalt not kill, but only if someone else doesn't do it first. We are finally right in line with the teachings of Christ these days, thanks to compassionate religious men like G.W. Bush and Richard "Dick" Cheney.

Our nation's deeply held Christian values must be shared with the world, whether they like it or not. Sooner or later they will understand that there is only One God, and that He is Our God. When the Constitution talks about religious freedom, it means freedom to proselytize and keep military bases in almost every other country. It is clearly the will of God, and not the false prophets Allah or Buddha or Krishna, etc.

Jesus would be so proud of our peaceful and loving Christian ways, and above all proud of His minion and faithful servant George W. Bush. Sure, he did a lot of cocaine but that was a long time ago, and he has been Forgiven, as he will soon forgive the millions who are in jail for the same crimes he was caught but never tried for. When your family is a little closer to God, good things can happen.

While not quite as noble a President as Taft or Harding, GW will no doubt go down in history as a great man, a deep thinker committed to educating the world, and above all a committed Christian who has never lost sight of the compassion and love for ALL other people that Our Savior preached.

If only Jesus would return before the end of Bush's term, He would confirm that our present foreign policy is not only deeply Christian but almost exactly what He had in mind when promoting peace, good will, and charity. Thank God Bush found Christ before he came into office; Lord only knows what a non-Christ-loving Bush would be up to.

God Bless America, and George W. Bush. May his kind and loving Good Works continue to resonate in our markets and environment and national character long after he leaves office.

Somewhere, Jesus is smiling at the picture of G.W. Bush on His heavenly desk.

A hilarious “quizography” on the dumbfounding life of George W. Bush
Pop Quiz

George W. Bush is:

the greatest American statesman since Abraham Lincoln.

a champion of the underdog and a thorn in the side of the wealthy.

articulate, thoughtful, and judicious—a very, very wise man.

linguistically challenged (“I know how hard it is to put food on your family”), proudly ignorant (he actually boasts about not reading newspapers), and inexplicably addicted to nicknaming (aide Karl Rove is “Turd Blossom”)—in short, the least qualified, most polarizing figure ever to be appointed President of the United States, and the only White House occupant to have once been videotaped picking his nose.

If you answered d, this book is for you.  In The George W. Bush Quiz Book, New Yorker humorist and bestselling author of The Clothes Have No Emperor, Paul Slansky, brings you a comical compendium of quizzes filled with hundreds of questions and answers on the personal and political life of George W. The result is a crash course in everything Dubya.

Thoroughly researched and devastatingly funny, now there’s finally a quiz George W. Bush should be able to ace (pass). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars hilarious!
I didn't even buy this for myself--I got it for a friend as a gift. But I couldn't help but thumb through a few pages before wrapping it up and it's hilarious! It's full of truthful information concerning that wonderful president of ours and Dick Cheney. It also has questions about what reporters and journalists have said about George Dub-ya.I highly recommend this book, it's very funny and factual!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hysterical and Terrifying
A sample question from the book:

5) What did George W. Bush say was the difference between Americans and terrorists?

A) "They're evil, we're good."

B) "They're ugly, we're pretty."

C) "You can't really simplify it like that. There are just too many factors to be considered, too many different things that happen in people's lives for me to be so presumptuous as to make some sweeping generalization."

D) "They hate things, we love things."

ANSWER:D. To put it in context: "See, we love - we love freedom. That's what they didn't understand. They hate things; we love things. They act out of hatred; we don't seek revenge, we seek justice out of love."

It's embarrassing that this man is our President.BTW, the author has a web site called stampoutbush.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haw haw haw
This book is as funny as it is terrifying. Can you believe this man is running America? Can you believe this man declares war? Can you believe this man considers himself a torch of hope for the world's oppressed? For those who think that the end of the world has come fear not. The Book of Revelation in the BIble clearly states that the anti-Christ will be a 'handsome and well spoken man'. At least we're somewhat safe for now.

Though this book can be a bit cumbersome, (you have to turn the book upside-down after each question to read the correct answer) the answers will ASTOUND you. Read what came from Bush's own lips as he answered questions about Vietnam, his military service, and his many failed business ventures. But the one question that is truly sad and heartbreaking is as follows. It was asked by a grade school girl...

Q. Mr. Bush, what was your favorite book when you were a child?

A. I don't remember any books in particular.

Sleep well America.

5-0 out of 5 stars shocking, hysterical, truth stranger than fiction
This book, with humor and wit, has a way of ripping the lid off a man who has lead the country into great despair.I wish this were published before he took office and handed to every church group, every republican gathering, maybe he wouldn't have been elected.Oh yeah, I forgot.. HE WASN'T.It's also great to read in jolts, like morning coffee.I bought ten copies and am giving them to all my friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book
The George W Bush Quiz Book is a savagely funny biography of the man some people recognize as the president. The quiz format makes it palatable and participatory, while the unpleasant truths that are revealed drive home the message that we each need to do everything we can to get this smug ignoramus out of office. If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, this book is a Weapon of Mass Destruction against bully-boy Bush and his gang.Buy many copies of this book and give to everyone -- it's as good as donating to Kerry, but there's no legal limit. ... Product Description
No one is more qualified to give a fully rounded, objective portrait of our forty-first president than Tom Wicker. A political correspondent for The New York Times for more than thirty years, Wicker was a first-hand witness to and reporter of George H. W. Bush-s political rise and presidential reign. In George Herbert Walker Bush, Wicker provides a richly drawn and succinct overview of Bush from his New England roots, his decorated service in World War II, and his successful oil businesses to his shift to politics and rapid rise within the Republican party. As he describes changes within the Republican party in recent decades, Wicker charts Bush-s career, including in-depth analysis of his campaign tactics and his gift for creating friendships and inspiring loyalty which, Wicker argues, has been the key to Bush-s success. The result is a fascinating, timely glimpse into one of the most powerful families in America today, complete with insights into the current reign of George W. Bush, the continued legacy of the Bush family, and contemporary American politics. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars George H W Bush
If you want a quick easy read at 219 pages this might fit the bill for you. I was hoping for more insight into the mans life. If this is indicative of the Penguin Lives series then they are great at telling you something about the man in a short book. I am about to finish my quest of reading a biography on every president, and with the exception of William Howard Taft, Bush has been the hardest to find anything about. Maybe there wasn't that much to the man, but I find this hard to believe. To a man every President to this point has been a complex and intriguing character. If you are really into political biography I would recommend anything from the Signature Series from American Political Biography Press.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Flawed Biography
This brief look at our 41st president simply does not compare to a number of the books in the Penguin Lives series. As a number of the other reviews correctly note, Tom Wicker goes over the top in painting the first President Bush as a "win at all costs" political operator. While Wicker gives Bush patria high marks for his leadership in the Gulf War, he overlooks a number of the Bush administration's successes and failures to focus on Bush's tenure as Reagan's VP including a long and not quite convincing "did he or didn't he" look at Iran-Contra. If the first President Bush is going to be remembered for anything, it might be his skillful leadership on the global stage during the complete meltdown of the Soviet Union and its allies and the unification of Germany. Wicker simply does not focus on this.

The main problem is Wicker falls into a trap that ensnares too much of of the American media these days. Wicker is more concerned with politics and elections than governing. Even in covering politics, Wicker often misses some important threads. For example Wicker takes Bush to task for not constantly remaining a Republican in the line of Nelson Rockefeller and Wendall Wilkie or even his father, Sen. Prescott Bush. Fair enough. But Bush was not on the political stage in Connecticut in the 1950s and Wicker simply does not choose to recognize a number of different factors. For better or worse, in his time on the political stage, Bush changed but so did the nation. Wicker simply can not or will not recognize how fluid the nation was in the later half of the twentieth century and how economic, social and demographic changes greatly reshaped American politics.

This is not to say that the book is mere partisan screed or is useless. Wicker offers an excellent and concise account of Bush's unlikely rise in Texas politics and even his first moments in the national political spotlight (such as his tenure as RNC chair). But Wicker simply fails when his subject becomes VP and President. Those are the key years of any look at George H.W. Bush and it is where Wicker drops the ball.

3-0 out of 5 stars A brief overview of our 41st President.
Well, I think Wicker is a little down on our 41st President.Wicker describes Bush Senior as the person that would do anything to get elected. He also states that Bush had few convictions or beliefs.I will echo what previous reviewers have already said, journalism is sometimes not good history. My own opinion is that Bush Senior was probably a better President than the two men who followed him. However, historians will determine that and not some skeptical New York journalist.

The summary history of George H. W. Bush was nice but brief (excepting the critical remarks). The reader will get an overview history of Bush Senior in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Light intellectual reading, politically factual with jokes
I always consider George Herbert Walker Bush the original President Bush, but I prefer to think of him as a person with a clandestine history that has been hidden on a more ominous level, as a prime character, along with Jack Ruby, James Jesus Angleton, E. Howard Hunt, and David Atlee Phillips in PLAUSIBLE DENIAL by Mark Lane, an investigation of the question:Was the CIA involved in the assassination of JFK?In the case of the original President Bush, the success of some of his children is the most obvious evidence that America is currently being ruled by children of the people who killed President Kennedy.Tom Wicker is not so outrageously opposed to the undercover aspects of modern despicabilities, but he is capable of considering plenty of deep doo-doo on the question of whether the original George Bush was a wimp, as implied by the cover of the October 11, 1987 `Newsweek' which is quoted as saying, "George Bush:Fighting the Wimp Image."(p. 86).There is no index for the Penguin Life series book, GEORGE HERBERT WALKER BUSH by Tom Wicker, but source notes on pages 221-228 reveal books with many details to support Wicker's observations.

Not everyone in America has been paying close attention to the personality factors that are deemed important in modern politics. With a majority of the voting citizens being capable of putting anyone they choose into the presidency, and people they hardly know into every other position, intellectuals are in an absurd position of trying to find ideas that correspond to events which are much too complex to conform to easy explanations.Huge amounts of money, a trillion here, a trillion there, are still considered significant in trying to frame political arguments, but few people can articulate any basis for expecting such huge amounts of money to materialize. In the case of the Bush family, much of their wealth followed the formation of Zapata Petroleum, which paid $850,000 to lease land in Coke County, Texas, resulting in seventy-one oil wells pumping more than a thousand barrels of oil a day by the end of 1953.(p. 12).Bush had enough money to join a partnership that opened the Commercial Bank and Trust Company. In 1958 Bush became president of Zapata Offshore and went into undersea drilling.(pp. 12-13).

Tom Wicker hardly appreciates the satisfaction which becomes a part of the life of those people who are where the smart money is and who expect politics to be a continuation of social structures in which they have been successful. But most people don't measure up to the high standards of Skull and Bones, the CIA, or American foreign policy as conducted from the Oval Office.Tom Wicker has a depth of intellectual background which relies mainly on skepticism about policy assertions to arrive at behind-the-scenes explanations.A few things became public in instant headlines, such as Barbara Bush saying, "that four million dollar ----- I can't say it but it rhymes with rich" (p. 672) in 1984 when "Bush resented the fact that reporters then began to search his tax records," (p. 71).Wicker reports that the Mondale-Ferraro ticket lost by an electoral count of 525 to 13, without repeating the `Where's the beef?' line harped on by Walter Mondale, who was sure tax increases would be needed to avoid trillions of national debt now partly funded by baby boomer Social Security contributions that are considered worthless i.o.u.s in the Oval Office.

On the ragged edges of GEORGE HERBERT WALKER BUSH, there is little doubt that competent people can engage in meritorious service to a common cause.Bush was brilliant as chairman of the Republican National Committee who showed up at a cabinet meeting on August 6, 1974 and "Nixon did not call on him, but Bush spoke up anyway.Watergate was the vital question, he said; it was sapping public confidence in the president, the party, the economy, the country as a whole. Therefore Nixon should resign, the party chairman told the president to his face--while the cabinet and others present sat in shocked silence."(p. 35).People listening to tapes could hear Nixon agreeing to `Bob Haldeman's cover-up plan for the FBI to stay out of a supposed "national security" incident.'(Note, p. 34).Senators like Barry Goldwater realized that Nixon could lose an impeachment battle on August 6, so Bush was capable of stating an obvious conclusion precisely when it needed to be acknowledged.Opinions among those who have been sampling deep doo-doo recently now differ mainly on what form the next disgrace to preside in the Oval Office will turn out to be.

1-0 out of 5 stars Weak and Condescending
I found this book to be a mere thumbnail sketch of Bush's long service to America, and I found its tone insulting.Wicker constantly derides Bush for his geniality, his many friendships, and for his constant `thank you' notes. I guess the brusque Nixon to Wicker is `one of us', while the polite Bush isn't. Doesn't that say more about Wicker than it does about Bush?

Though Bush was a World War II veteran, a Congressman, a Senate nominee, Ambassador to the United Nations, Envoy to China, GOP Chairman, Director of the CIA, Vice President and President, Wicker seems to think that Bush was merely all `resume', and because he was so `nice' he was easy to lift, with his successes merely a result of the patronage of the powerful (mainly presidents.)What Wicker fails to understand is that Bush was appointed to those positions of power prior to the presidency because he is a man of intelligence and skill capable to preside over entire organizations with style and class.

Wicker grudgingly gives some credit to Bush for his leadership during the Gulf War, but not nearly enough. And Bush's expertise in foreign policy is dismissed by Wicker, who thinks that Bush merely stood back and allowed events to occur, thus giving a sense of `calm'.(Anyone seeking a real understanding of Bush's contribution to foreign policy should read the book he co-authored with Brent Scowcroft, `A World Transformed.)

In conclusion, I don't recommend this book at all. I could have put up with the condescension if it at least provided some sort of depth, but this book is unbelievably shallow.

While other liberal-minded books, written by everyone from documentary filmmakers to political strategists to comedians, have been broadly critical of the entire early 21st-century conservative universe, Eric Alterman and Mark J. Green have narrowed their focus to the man living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. And unlike some of their contemporaries, they choose to largely eschew the clever metaphors and whimsical storytelling to get right at their pointed criticisms of George W. Bush, whom they accuse of being less than honest with the American people while serving the interests of large corporations, the religious right, and neoconservative ideologues. Such charges, by themselves, are so commonplace by this point as to be unremarkable but Alterman and Green provide voluminous, detailed research and come at the case with the vigor of prosecuting attorneys certain of a defendant's guilt or maybe a pair of exceptionally ambitious graduate students ready to present a final dissertation. They contrast sections of Bush's public statements, especially campaign rhetoric, that seem to strike a centrist, conciliatory tone with evidence of his actions that veer hard right and contradict the very things he had said. Some of Bush's words come off more as simple talking points on complex issues than outright deception, and the authors do stop short of calling Bush a liar, but even in these situations, the president still comes off as either out of touch or disingenuous. And though some of their supporting material comes from opinion pieces in publications like the New Republic, serving more to echo the authors' perspective than document it, there's plenty more from objective sources and raw factual data. Liberals will find plenty in The Book on Bush to arm them in arguments against conservatives and they'll have the evidence to make their case. --John Moe ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The left trying to lie about the best President in 5 decades...
This author should research the Clintons if he wants to find liars and numerous accounts of misleading the American public... All Bill ever did was lie, from day one to the very end, and he left the White House laughing in the faces of all Americans...
The loosing left should leave this man alone, he is the most incredible President that this country has seen in the last 50 years...
Liberals are the seeds of Socialists, and Socialists are the roots of Communists... If you do not like living in the RIGHT country... then leave...

4-0 out of 5 stars Our Son In White House is an Honor Student
This book is written by two progressive authors with a report card on different subjects for President Bush who advocated NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.The subjects affect all Americans in economics, environment, civil liberty, healthcare and education.Despite his grades, he managed to have White House lease extended for four more years. That must be democracy and politics.

This book showed George came from the right wing with a prayer to serve the trinity of religious right, corporate business and neocons.George is a tough cowboy not to mess with.He shows America is no paper tiger to the Axis of evil. His top gun Mission Accomplished show was impressive after the shock and awe.

As Commander in Chief, George's policy affects rich & poor, faithful & secular, war & peace. This book helps you decide on the bumper sticker MY SON IN THE WHITE HOUSE DOES NOT DO HIS HOMEWORK IS AN HONOR STUDENT.

1-0 out of 5 stars An Insult to Minorities that is chilling in many other ways
I read this in passing at the new San Jose Main Public Library the other day.
These coauthors' writing is as harsh as Ann Coulter's but of an opposite persuasion. However, their use of citations and supporting documentation is lacking. It is mostly up to the reader to guess which points are supported by which references in the bibliography. There are no footnotes, just mere page number references.A great number of references are simply for the sprinklings of quotations used. The fact, that Alterman and Green are employed by any journal, is chilling and an insult for that employer.
Alterman, intending to attack "neocons," uses an example of voter intimidation in places like Baltimore where the "Get out the Vote" advertisments also say "...and take care of your oustanding warrants, overdue rent, etc..."Another example is one that persuades people to show up at the polls days after election day.[Incidentally, the book's issues like this are debatably related to the topic of President Bush...]
So much for the idea of a "well-informed electorate!"
Such voter intimidation is not just sad but almost laughable.
First, does anyone want to admit depending on a voter base of individuals who fall for intimidation like this? This was an insult to liberal causes! To think this was a great book, you too would probably fall for voter intimidations like these examples given by Alterman and Green.
Second, are these guys trying to tell us that a qualification, to be considered a minority, consists of being duped by garbage like this? What an insult to minorities!
Third, if these guys are responsible journalists, can they report on anybody of their own polity that might be doing something about the state of the electorate's information?

While Alterman and Green make this point on their own voter base being so inadequate with any base of knowledge, they are trying to make a point, by begging the question from the first page, that President Bush himself has a very inadequate base of knowledge.Worse yet, Alterman and Green propose that a bad state of knowledge is further demonstrated by President Bush's tendency to ask "stupid" questions.Perhaps all readers should reflect on whether it is better to have stupid questions asked than to have stupid results occur when nobody has the courage to ask stupid questions. And back to the concept of a "well-informed electorate," real education begins with real questions. It is too bad that Alterman and Green have evidently been too proud to ask any questions, starting with "Why did so and so ask such and such question?" instead of jumping to their conclusions.

Another example of Alterman and Green's points is that President Bush's tendency to leave the "details" to others is a weakness. It would have been more useful to their point to expound on how this balances one's own core competencies with those of others. It's an effective corporate strategy.Maybe journalists know nothing about that.

Alterman and Green's publication is a strike out for journalism.
If you are a proponent of progressiveness or of the idea of a "well-informed electorate," this book does not help either of these causes.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this....
This was one of the books I have read to understand what my opinion is about Bush.I puts into print the concepts, ideas and realities of the dichotomy of Bush.Politics to the fullest. No wonder this nation is so full of apathy.I love books like this that make you look deeper into subjects....

5-0 out of 5 stars And (Mis)leads the world: a view from the UK
American audiences might be forgiven for wondering what benefit a UK citizen could obtain from reading such a thorough and exhaustive dissection of the failures of Bush's domestic and foreign policy. But the fact remains that citzens of the world are in many respects the disenfranchised electorate of the United States. For as this book makes abundantly clear, as the world's only hyperpower, the US is in a position to dictate terms to every single person alive on the planet today. What the President says and does will impact everybody, whether we like it or not - and mostly, we do not.

The exposing of foreign policy flaws in the Middle East comes as no surprise; indeed the situation in Iraq today is exactly that predicted by the authors and their sources, only worse. But the revelation for a foreign reader such as myself was the extent to which the Bush administration is systematically asset stripping the nation of its entitlement in terms of education, health care, social services and the environment, whilst annexing yet more wealth for the top tier of American society and a cadre of handpicked cronies. The meticulous examination of federal tax policy and who really benefits was very informative and shocking in its audacity.

In spite of the measured and forceful arguments proposed by the authors, George W Bush was re-elected in November 2004.As an outsider, I find this completely perplexing since in my own country, the overwhelming majority of voters (had we been able) would have chosen the other candidate. But if you are an American beginning to see through the cracks in the surface and wish to know more about the motives and intentions of your government, I strongly recommend this book.In spite of its failure to prevent the re-election of this President it may still have a powerful influence over who gets to be the next one. ... Product Description
Strategery is a term borrowed from a saturday night live skit and self-deprecatingly adopted by the White House for their meetings. White House Correspondent Bill Sammon is borrowing it yet again in his latest account of this unlikely-yet historic-president. It is written with verve and piercing insight by Sammon, who has been granted unprecedented access to President Bush, Vice President Cheney and their most senior advisers. No other journalist has interviewed the president more times than Sammon. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars poof
Written by a paid administration shill, published by a right-wing vanity press, this weakly researched book had one defining characteristic: It took the side it was made for, blindly.
Two years later, the fallacies the book expounded, and those built into the writing itself, have become widely exposed. The result, for a contemporary reader, will be just another expose of an overconfident administration, albeit one that back in 2004-2006 was still yet eager to project itself via any pay-to-write scribe it could get its hands on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could Not Put It Down!
This is the finest 'behind the campaign scene' book I've ever read. That goes for fiction and non-fiction alike.

The way the Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rice team handle the various media attacks and political roadblocks is astounding.

Watching the top American media sources finally implode under the pressure of trying to make a great man look bad is a thing of beauty.

Like the majority of my countrymen, I voted for Bush Jr both terms. What I see in Bush is a strong leader who cares about this country.

Understanding our need to be in the middle-east, particularly Iraq, is imperative for whomever we elect in '08. I hope they will have read, 'Strategery'.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Real West Wing
This is an awesome book, I could not put it down. It's like the tv show "The West Wing" but you know it's all real life.Bill Sammon was able to get exclusive behind the sceens access, and see first hand America go to war in Iraq, and a President win re-election and deal with Hurricane Katrina.

2-0 out of 5 stars Childishly Written
I am a right wing super freak. I have no problems with the facts or views in this book. I do have a problem with the "emotional coloring" by Sammon. It's like he's trying activate certain emotions and attitudes that are childishly simplistic. Right out of the gate we go into the siege of Rove's home by misinformed libby protestors. Rove comes off sounding like a man cowering in a corner while people pound on his windows like a dawn of the dead movie. This book talks down to readers in a condescending way that only small children wouldn't notice and I keep remembering books from my childhood....."see Jane run." Bill....please stop helping my party.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Sitting in the Oval Office
This is Bill Sammon's third book on the Presidency of George W. Bush. The extraordinary access given to Mr. Sammon is evident in the detail and atmosphere that is consistent throughout this whole series. I am assuming (Always a dangerous thing!) that this access has been provided because the author actually tries to be as objective as possible, a trait sorely missing in the media of today. As this review is written, we are reacting to the discovery of the latest Islamic terror plot to kill thousands of passengers in jumbo jets over the Atlantic. Watching the press and politicians try to spin the story, along with the constant parade of altered 'news' photos from Lebanon, it is refreshing, and critically important, to know that somebody in the media actually sticks to the facts instead of injecting his political and personal prejudices into every word produced.

Mr. Sammon sticks to the facts and occasionally asks the hard questions. His unfettered access comes through in the open and easy answers the President provides to his questions. As a self professed "News Junkie", I like to think that I keep myself well informed; but I have learned much from reading this book. Mr. Sammon's "behind the scenes' insight reached it's height in his coverage of election night 2004. The reader will come away with a much clearer understanding of what really happened on Election Day 2004, and well into that night. It seemed that the TV networks had sunk as low as possible in their 2000 Election coverage, but they managed to top their sorry performance in 2004. Throughout the marathon, shamelessly prolonged by the media, Mr. Sammon conveys the evolving situation, from the disastrous, flawed early exit polls, through the state-by-state results trickling in throughout the evening, to the media attempts to influence the results in the 'battleground' state of Ohio. As the events of the night unfold, Mr. Sammon accurately captures the highs and lows of the Bush team as they try to make sense of conflicting and contradictory information. His account of how the President and his inner circle reacted to, and attempted to interpret, what was actually happening, alone makes the book worth reading.

This is the third installment of Mr. Sammon's coverage of the Bush Administration, and the three books flow easily, covering the past six years in his easy, readable style.

This is no "Puff Piece" about the Bush Era, but a balanced, easily read account of what has happened on the inside. These are difficult times, and it is important that we all stay well informed and involved. This book makes it easier to do so. It will be interesting to see how these books stand the test of time. I'm hopeful that Mr. Sammon will continue his series with the finale. ... Read more

It is a good book to read for anyone who wants to find more about one of my favorite presidents,George W. Bush!A man of character and moral values a man called by God to lead this blessed country in those times of panic and tragedy! He knows what freedom means not just to our country but to any other country in the world! The book shows how God can use a man who is willing to change and be a blessing for all around him!I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars President George W. Bush - greatest leader of the 21st century
Those who keep screaming at the top of their lungs obscenities about this great man are obviously people who are so entenched in their own liberal philosophies that they simply can't be reasoned with despite the facts. I think, like the last competent democrat president Harry Truman, in time after his presidency is complete, history will give him the credit he deserves in doing more than anyone else in history to try to end tyrrany in the world and dealt state sponsored terrorism a crippling blow. There is a reason this man held the reigns of the most powerful nation on the face of the planet at times such as these - God knew he had the strength to withstand the unprecedented pressure of the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil and the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. His liberal critics conveniently leave out the facts that both situations were a direct result of democrats' dangerous liberal policies: Clinton and his worthless and unending "proportional" responses to terrorist attacks and congressional democrats constant obstruction to regulate major mortgage banks. One reviewer of this book asked, "How does he sleep at night?" Much better than you I bet - because his conscience is clear and unlike you, he's actually done something great with his life. Remember that this country no longer has a military draft so all the brave men and women who have given their lives to defend this great nation in recent years were all volunteers who soberly weighed the consequences of their decision to put on the uniform. If there were more men of faith like him, the whole world would be a better place.

3-0 out of 5 stars What does converting to Christianity have to do with U.S. policy?
This "family friendly" exposition of George W. Bush's journey into Christian faith, describes his conversion and his declaration of faith well, in clear and in as complimentary terms as one could expect. However, by not examining the meaning of this conversion in light of the 43rd President's record, it seems to beg an important question: What has Mr. Bush's Christian faith meant in terms of how he has governed, or in terms of how "un-Christian-like" most of his policy actions have actually turned out to be?

Except for his African AIDS initiative, one would be hard-pressed to find in this book any "Christian-like resonances" emanating from the GW Bush administration, or from any of his policies. One wonders what kind of grade Jesus might have given Mr. Bush on how Christian his humanitarian record has been? Surely by omitting the connections between his Christianity and the humanity of his policies, the author is not intentionally leaving open the possibility that our 43rd President's Christian conversion was mere cynical, if not astute politics, without any substantive meaning whatsoever?

I admit, I am not a G.W. Bush fan, and am a "born-again non-Christian," but I do approach each book, including this one, with an open mind. I had the hope that I would find a new kind of meaning in G.W. Bush's Christian conversion, but try as I might there is none of that here. What one finds instead is that while "turning to Jesus" may have saved GW's from his own descent into personal self-destruction, and did indeed save his presidential candidacy, it did not change his hard-conservative heart:

Mr. Bush still stands alone among Christian Presidents as having executed more death row criminals than any other official in U.S. History. His un-Christian-like negligence during the Katrina Hurricane was not just incompetent, but smacked of racism and of Christian uncaring, and left a black mark on the American humanitarian record that will endure. Arguably this negligence was one of the most irresponsible domestic acts ever committed by a U.S. President. Add to this the pre-emptive aspects of the new "Bush doctrine," which is to shoot first, declare victory and then ask the hard questions later, and one begins to want to ask of GW the Tina Turner question:"What does converting to Christianity have to do with any of this?"

1-0 out of 5 stars How does he sleep at night?
How many people are now dead because of the stubbern recklessness of this pompous man?
It makes me sick to the stomach to see him refered to as "spiritual". In this particular case his ACTIONS have spoken, loudly, to the kind of person he truly is. Just because we've been fed lies over and over again does not mean that they've become truth.

5-0 out of 5 stars President Bush: A great man of faith and a great President
I guess I am the only one that has actually read this book and the Bible. An unnecessary war? Maybe these people have been hiding under a rock. Or maybe they are just liberals that love to act like they have faith until they open their mouths and it becomes obvious they have no idea what they are talking about. Anyway, if you are a "true" Christian that actually reads and understands your Bible, you will enjoy this book. Thank God for President Bush. A great man of convictions, values, and morals. The rest of you - well you are cowardly traitors. ... Read more

Praise for Bush's Brain

"Love him or hate him, Karl Rove is one of the most brilliant and successful political consultants of all time. In this riveting account, Wayne Slater and Jim Moore tell how he got there."
–Paul Begala, CNN’s Crossfire

"Bush’s Brain isn’t a hatchet job on George W. Bush. In fact, the two authors largely dispel the myth of Bush’s supposedly deficient IQ. But, more importantly, they lay bare the story of how Karl Rove may be the most powerful man in America. It’s a compelling story told by two veteran Texas journalists who don’t need a briefing packet to understand the men they’re writing about."
–Philip Bruce, KCET/PBS Television, Los Angeles

The most powerful individual in the United States may not be George W. Bush. It is probably Karl Rove, the President’s brilliant advisor. Who is this man and how did he acquire so much power? Having watched in awe for over fifteen years as they reported on the rise of Karl Rove, Moore and Slater expose the brutal and sometimes morally questionable, but invariably effective ways in which Karl Rove–and America’s political system–actually operate.Amazon.com Review
Political consultants are nothing new in American politics; they are the big guns called in to work on a campaign or deal with the occasional crisis, then dismissed for another day. Not so with White House Senior Advisor Karl Rove. Due to his close personal relationship and unlimited access to George W. Bush, as well as his control of the information that reaches the president, this "permanent consultant" occupies a unique spot in Bush's inner circle and in history. "His influence marks a transcendent moment in American politics: the rise of an unelected consultant to a position of unprecedented power," write authors Moore and Slater. Since Rove is ultimately responsible to Bush only, not to American citizens, he is not required to work openly. As a result, Rove is hardly a household name, despite his considerable clout. This intriguing and important book seeks to remedy this by offering a comprehensive look at this behind-the-scenes political guru. "Karl Rove matters to all Americans, many who have never even heard his name. While the president chafes at the description of Rove as 'Bush's Brain,' he can hardly deny that every policy and political decision either goes through, or comes from, the consultant," write the authors, leading them to pose the question, "Who really runs this country?"

Rove has been involved with the Bush family for nearly 30 years and has worked on every one of George W.'s campaigns. In great detail, the book shows how Rove led Bush, a "reluctant political warrior," all the way to the White House. The portrait of Bush and Rove's relationship is fascinating. Though opposites in many respects, they are an unusually effective political team. But where Bush seemed to fall into politics, Rove has been preparing for his current job all of his life, and Bush has served as a vehicle for Rove's considerable ambitions, the authors contend. "Without Karl Rove, there would be no President George W. Bush," they write. Moore and Slater look deeply into Rove's past to offer copious evidence of his political genius, his tenacity, and his remarkable success rate in getting his clients elected. The facts also portray Rove as unethical, vindictive, and a chronic abuser of power. Loaded with revealing anecdotes and inside information, this is essential reading for anyone looking to understand not only the Bush administration, but how politics really work. --Shawn Carkonen ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Another typical Hit Job on Bush
You might as well save time and watch Keith Olberman than read this book.It is a typical hit job by the press.Don't waste your time or money, there are much better books out there that are far more balanced in the coverage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Karl Rove: Svengali (or the Rasputin?) to the Western World
An interesting tale about how Karl Rove, son of a Rocky mountain geologist, and a "political savant extraordinaire," a virtual Bobby Fischer of politics, with the same kind of a political instincts and genius as Bill Clinton - was, since childhood, bent on becoming a "top behind the scenes man." And next to Dick Morris, he has perhaps succeeded in becoming the greatest one of our (or any) times.

Rove, single-handedly found, mentored, and fashioned a reluctant under motivated and under-performing peripatetic warrior, composed of the most meager of raw materials, into a conservative political superstar.

Left to his own devices, "Bush junior," would probably have preferred nothing more than remaining a spoiled, underdeveloped, under motivated, misdirected, mediocre, "kick-about" for the rest of his life. However, Rove saw, as few others did, a "diamond in the rough," and set about chipping away at the lackluster and peripatetic outer shell to get at the hidden untapped, underdeveloped inner treasures.

Rove, in the best of his Svengali-like roles, not only became the Rasputin to the Western World, but since every decision Bush has made -- from his two terms as governor of Texas through his two terms as President of the U.S. - have been "cleared" by Rove, he literally became not just Bush's alter ego, but his "uber-ego." Rove quite literally became Bush's brain. So much so, that, as the author notes: "it is hard to know where Bush's brain begins and Roves' ends."

How did Rove polish the dull and listless GW into spanking shiny brand new money? In the liveliest of prose, chocked full of lush and tasty details, this book gives the answer: Rove, like the inventor of the term itself, Dick Morris, is nothing but a "triangulator." His political philosophy is the same as Morris': See what the polls say, and then "spin the rhetoric" so that (even when it is not so) the President's policies "sound like" and "look like" what the President's political constituency thinks they want.

Rove owes a deep unacknowledged debit to the one who invented and patented this process, Dick Morris. Since Morris invented the process of triangulation during the Clinton administration, this period in U.S. history may someday be known as the "era of the super power-political triangulators." (no pun intended).

A fabulous but disturbing read. Five Stars

4-0 out of 5 stars bush's brain or lack there of
this book shows that without someone else's input this president would not have made it to any elected position.it is all smoke and mirrors for this administration.

1-0 out of 5 stars not good people...
This review is not a memoir. Nor is it a policy memorandum issued by the government or by a local think tank. Rather, it is an assessment of how our long-corrupt legal system is parlously close to establishing a precedent that will enable Karl Rove to waste our time and money. Note that some of the facts I plan to use in this letter were provided to me by a highly educated person who managed to escape Karl's flippant indoctrination and is consequently believable. The problem is, if I didn't sincerely believe that there is certainly reason to fear that imprudent beatniks will provide covinous franions with an irresistible temptation to palm off our present situation as the compelling ground for worldwide Fabianism by the next full moon, then I wouldn't be writing this letter. His true goal is to implement a hotheaded parody of justice called "Karl-ism". All the statements that Karl's helots make to justify or downplay that goal are only apologetics; they do nothing to stand up and fight for our heritage, traditions, and values.

If I may be so bold, only by taking risks and pushing boundaries with this letter can I operate on today's real -- not tomorrow's ideal -- political terrain. And let me tell you, my message has always been that Karl's decisions are ill-advised. It's that simple. My general thesis is that Karl has written volumes about how there is something intellectually provocative in the tired rehashing of larcenous stereotypes. Don't believe a word of it, though. The truth is that if he thinks that he can make me experience psychological stress or "cognitive dissonance", then he's barking up the wrong tree. I'll talk a lot more about that later, but first let me finish my general thesis: I don't care what others say about him. Karl's still cold-blooded, offensive, and he intends to wipe out delicate ecosystems. If you think that Karl's blessing is the equivalent of a papal imprimatur, then think again. If Karl wants to put a demented spin on important issues, let him wear the opprobrium of that decision. To bring the matter closer to home, let me remind you that we've all heard his yammer and whine about how he's being scapegoated again, the poor dear. It is not uncommon for Karl to victimize the innocent, penalize the victim for making any effort to defend himself, and then paint the whole addlepated affair as some great benefit to humanity. Have you ever had a bad dream about her trying to exhibit cruelty to animals? Well, I have news for you. That wasn't a dream; it was real. I would like to end on a heartfelt note. I find Karl Rove's failed attempts to create an infantile world of guilt and shame mildly amusing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely chilling--and Rove is just one of the hit-men
Reading about Rove's contempt for fair play from the beginning of his career is absolutely chilling. The book is even-handed and meticulous, but presents so many cases where he damaged lives, careers and democracy with his political ruthlessness.
What's frightening is how much influence he has on Bush today, and the fact that he isn't the only Lee Atwater disciple wielding power in the current Republican Party. Read David Brock's Blinded By the Light for a complementary tale of manipulation and dissembling.
This book was obviously completed before the Republican ads that defeated Senator Max Cleland by calling him unpatriotic, even though Cleland had lost two legs and an arm in Vietnam--but that approach only buttresses the core points I take from this powerful book: The bullying tactics of people like Rove need to themselves become a political issue, because they represent a direct attack on our democracy.

Product Description
A scathing expose of the political and cultural legacy of Texas, which tells us all we need to know--and fear--about George W. Bush.

Everyone knows that President George W. Bush is from Texas. But few of us know the role his home state plays in his presidency, and our country. In this vivid dual biography of man and state, Michael Lind confronts the signal crises facing Bush--the economy, the Middle East, and religious fundamentalism--and traces their roots back to Texas, a state, Lind argues, that yields salient clues to the future course of our country.

Widely praised as an iconoclastic and brilliant political observer, Lind, a fifth generation Texan, chronicles the unique ethnic clash that produced modern Texas, the well-known plundering of the state's natural resources at the hands of the elites, and finally the deep strain of "Old Testament religiosity" which, having originated in Texas, now reaches all over the globe in the form of Bush's foreign policy.

Lind delves deep into the president's home state, and his record in office, provoking us to consider the history of the state of Texas as a kind of morality tale for the political and cultural legacy of Bush's presidency. In the tradition of Gary Wills's Reagan's America, The Texan Mind of George W. Bush will provide both authoritative biography and wholly original cultural history which will change the way we understand not just our president, but our country. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Title isabsurd.
"Made in Texas"? What a joke. Bush isn't a Native Texan first of all.He didn't graduate high school here, didn't graduate college here, and was born of two Yankees. In fact, virtually all of his education was done in elitistinstitutions in the northeast. Just because you move to Texas and put on a cowboy hat doesn't make you a Texan!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Michael Lind scores another big hit with this book
In this book you will find the fascinating story of how sociological conditions in Texas, via George W. Bush's idiosyncrasy, are shaping world history.

The "South" (from Virginia to Texas) have been historically dominated by an Anglo-Celt white majority. This dominant group has retained more sociological features akin to the British of earlier centuries (plantation mentality, untrammeled capitalism, and rabid religious postures) than with the rest of the American Nation.

This life outlook, according to Mr. Lind, is shared by George W. Bush and it is guiding his style of governing. Thus, we are saddled with international adventurism and unilateralism, an economy increasingly resting on the exporting of raw materials (as opposed to finished goods) and, tolerance of corporate cronyism. This book deserves five stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little long winded but...good!
Reading this book was a little shocking at the beginning, but kinda gets long winded in the middle, but ends with a bang! Mr. Lind has done his homework and puts forth compelling theories on how the Republican Party has been Hijacked by Southern Protestant Religious Zealots, who's dispensationalist aims are scary and not of a sane rational mind. They believe the world is coming to an end and only "they" will be taken up. They have a ready and williing and not so bright former alcoholic/drug addict turned religious conservative as President, to further their agenda of bringing about Amageddon. Read and learn...but I suggest skimming through the middle chapters! Good Book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Prescience
I am half way through this book and am amazed at Lind's prescience.Everything he wrote about three years agois happening today.Exactly.I am purchasing another copy to start my friends reading it.I wanted to know how such a stupid man like Bush became President. I am being shown.

2-0 out of 5 stars This book is a perfect example of what can go bad when a journalist starts writing about history
Lind's understanding of Southern History is limited. He beats the Scotch-Irish thing to death, without really understanding the history of the group or the fact that the group's perceived influence has balloonedway out of proportion to their actual importance. His interpretation of American History in general is strongly influenced by David Hackett Fischer's Albion's Seed, a very problematic book. The latter was influenced by Grady McWhiney's Cracker culture, once again a very problematic book. If you want to see where Lind's ideas are coming from I would advise readers to look at those two titles.

He also ignores the role of British and Northern Evangelicalism in the formation of modern American Conservatism. He is right about the Anglo-Calvinist influence in American politics, but he forgets that it wasn't Southerners who brought this tradition into politics. Basically what Lind, and alot of other people don't get is that Bush represents a hybrid of Northern and Frontier Southern. A sort of ideological love child of Andrew Jackson and John "Potawotamie" Brown. The messianic concept of America and her role in the world is not a Southern invention, if Lind had done his homework he would have understood this.

Much of what Lind writes is pure stereotypical mean spirited rants directed at Southerners, but not at the Military-Industrial complex [i.e. the actual beneficiaries of the continued state of war]. If you want a real critic of the Republican party stick with Chalmers Johnson. ... Read more

During the course of American history, wrongful events have occurred and certain Americans have stood up and spoken out against these wrongs: Tom Paine, Edward R. Murrow, Daniel Ellsberg. Vincent Bugliosi takes his place in this special pantheon of patriots with his powerful, brilliant, and courageous expose of crime by the highest court in the land. When an article he wrote on this topic appeared in The Nation magazine in February 2001, it drew the largest outpouring of letters and e-mail in the magazine's 136-year history, tapping a deep reservoir of outrage. The original article is now expanded, amended, and backed by amplifications, endnotes, and the relevant Supreme Court documents.

3-0 out of 5 stars good read, but too one sided
My dad bought me the book and i actually read it in 2 days.

It's an easy read, but it's also completely one-sided.

The author, Vincent Bugliosi, states that he isn't really Republican or Democrat, but rather that he's anti Right-Wing Republican. Throughout the whole book, Bugliosi always tears apart the Republican party on the tactics and arguments used when they in fact were against such arguments. For example, Bugliosi states that the Republican Party is against the Federal Government impeding on state rights, yet they filed with the Supreme Court to rule on the Florida's Supreme Court decision to allow for manual recounts in Florida.

He calls the 5 Justices that voted to stop the recount criminals and even brings forward a story of how Chief Justice Rehnquist committed perjury, while at the same time, he defends President Clinton's own perjury before a Federal Grand Jury by attacking Ken Starr instead.

Over and over, the tone of the book is, "Republicans are bad, crybabies, hypocrities, and stole the 2000 election", and after a while, you start to lose track of the story because of his mad man ramblings. Democrats aren't innocent or pure, and if the situation was reversed, they would have done exactly what the Republicans did.

The Florida Supreme Court voted in favor of Gore and even went so far as to allow for a complete hand recount of every county in the state of Florida (machine recount was automatic because of the Florida Law when the winner wins by .5% or less), this despite the fact that Gore only wanted full hand recounts in the 4 most Democratic counties in Florida.

The recounts ordered by the Florida Supreme Court was for votes where no Presidental vote was recorded by the machines (dimpled and hanging chads). Since the Supreme Court ruled that the voters right had been violated, on December 9 they stopped the recount until a hearing was done on December 11. On December 12, they ruled 5-4 to stop the recount since it wouldn't meet the December 12 deadline to choose electors from the state for the Presidental election. (The "electors" were the total number of votes won by each candidate for each state.) The safeguard date of December 12 ensured that the Congress would not impede on the state's right to chose their electors. The electors were set to meet on December 18, and according to the law, the electors were given 6 days prior to resolve any disputes, hence the December 12 deadline.

What was really at issue was the issue of voting itself, and the right to vote. During the election, people's votes were being judged by individuals deciding on hanging and dimpled chads. Also, while one county was counting dimpled chads, another was not, and this was a violation of "the right to vote", in which no vote may be denied.

3-0 out of 5 stars Judging the Supreme Court Decision
This book developed from a magazine article ('Preface'). Molly Ivins says recounts by hand happen in every election in Texas with punched cards. Gerry Spence says the law is like a religion where judges are the most powerful. Lawyers can be punished for attacking the judiciary. Bugliosi has exposed the Supreme Court as acting for political reasons ('Foreword'). [That has been going on since Marbury vs. Madison created a judicial veto.] The 'Introduction' claims that some voters erroneously voted for Pat Buchanan instead of Al Gore (p.15). Could the reverse have also happened? Did five Supreme Court Justices steal the election for George W. Bush? No, Al Gore lost the election because he lost his home state of Tennessee. If he won Tennessee he would've been President. The conflict over the votes from Republican Florida was the only way for Gore to win a victory from his electoral defeat.

Bugliosi criticizes the Corporate Media for assuming a "black cotton robe" elevates a politician and lawyer to a position of honor and respect (p.24). Judges are either politically connected or have a rich patron who can buy their position; examples are on pages 24 to 27. [Bugliosi will never be appointed a judge for telling these facts!] As for erasing votes (p.28) just wait until he hears about the "Amar Plan"! The Electoral College was created to decide elections by states and not by votes alone, which would give undue weight to the largest states in a Federal system. If people don't understand the Electoral College that shows what a poor job the educational system is doing. The winner of a state gets all the electoral votes, even if it goes into the House of Representatives as in 1824. Most countries use a paper ballot for counting votes. It is faster for voters and cheaper to run (no expensive machines to be maintained). Machines are overly complicated for voters who have little experience with them.

Bugliosi admits the vast majority of Americans doubt that Oswald acted alone (p.32) even if few read the Warren Report. I'll bet most people who read the Summary Report doubt its conclusions. The House Select Committee on Assassinations disproved the Warren Report in 1979. Bugliosi says that if a person takes the property of another under a mistaken belief that he owns it then he is not guilty of a crime (p.38). OJ Simpson said that too.

The Federalist Party created the Supreme Court as a power to overrule Congress in order to benefit the wealthy and crooked (the Yazoo Land Fraud). It concocted powers for a corporation that makes it above state laws. This continues to this day (p.42). The Sherman Anti-Trust Act was interpreted as a weapon against labor unions instead of corporations! The number of the Supreme Court hasn't changed since Andrew Jackson was President of 24 states and 30 million people. There is still no age limit or term of office, they are not elected by popular vote. So I am not shocked by their fixing the 2000 election by banning a partial recount due to the equal protection clause (p.43). The Supreme Court always chooses the policies desired by the wealthy. Why else would they allow the 1968 Gun Control Act to overturn the Second Amendment? The attacks on the Second Amendment date back to 1877 Pittsburgh. Any good history book will explain that.
Full disclosure: I voted for Gore rather than Bush. His presidency was a disaster for all Americans but a huge success for wealthy aristocrats. Would Gore have been much different? Why?

4-0 out of 5 stars Never Knew Before
Bugliose, Vincent is a very repatable author. This book is backed up by facts supplies.I agree with him. Something has to be done

5-0 out of 5 stars A cause for civil disobedience
What happened in 2000 was, in my humble opinion, a cause for civil disobedience on a national scale.Riots, demonstrations, surrounding buildings and keeping the occupants inside until they came to their senses, even more.Had we the bravery that, say, Lithuanians had in 1990, or that lone figure in Tienanmen Square showed so long ago, we might have spared ourselves the ignominy and disgrace of this petulant, recalcitrant, intellectually underemployed, ignorant, bigoted, mendacious, simple-minded moron (who, I might add, half the country identified with - says something).Don't know if we're either capable or willing to recover from the past 7 years of utter cynical evil.Perhaps now would be a good time for an extraterrestrial takeover.(I'm kidding, folks.About the ET, that is, not about the person referenced above.)Maybe we can convince the ETs to take the 5 "conservative" "justices" with them?Especially Scalia and Thomas? The ETs can put them in some kind of display case and label them "mentally underdeveloped semi-humans" or something like that?I can't help thinking that whenever someone identifies themselves as a republican that I feel there's a severe personal deficiency about them, like retardation, or autism.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational
This book packs a lot of information into very few pages. Bugliosi does a good job of supporting his suppositions with law. There are so many points made, most everyone will be unaware of some of them. The biggest drawback for me was that sometimes Bugliosi strays into name-calling which leads one to begin to doubt if some of the scholarship isn't slanted more than is obvious at first blush. ... Product Description
The Presidency of George W. Bush brings together some of today's top American historians to offer the first in-depth look at one of the most controversial U.S. presidencies. Emotions surrounding the Bush presidency continue to run high--conservatives steadfastly defend its achievements, liberals call it a disgrace. This book examines the successes as well as the failures, covering every major aspect of Bush's two terms in office. It puts issues in broad historical context to reveal the forces that shaped and constrained Bush's presidency--and the ways his presidency reshaped the nation. The Presidency of George W. Bush features contributions by Mary L. Dudziak, Gary Gerstle, David Greenberg, Meg Jacobs, Michael Kazin, Kevin M. Kruse, Nelson Lichtenstein, Fredrik Logevall, Timothy Naftali, James T. Patterson, and the book's editor, Julian E. Zelizer. Each chapter tackles some important aspect of Bush's administration--such as presidential power, law, the war on terror, the Iraq invasion, economic policy, and religion--and helps readers understand why Bush made the decisions he did. Taking readers behind the headlines of momentous events, the contributors show how the quandaries of the Bush presidency were essentially those of conservatism itself, which was confronted by the hard realities of governance. They demonstrate how in fact Bush frequently disappointed the Right, and how Barack Obama's 2008 election victory cast the very tenets of conservatism in doubt. History will be the ultimate judge of Bush's legacy, and the assessment begins with this book. ... Read more

Product Description
Famed Charles Manson prosecutor and three time #1 New York Times bestselling author Vincent Bugliosi has written the most powerful, explosive, and thought-provoking book of his storied career.

In The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, Bugliosi presents a tight, meticulously researched legal case that puts George W. Bush on trial in an American courtroom for the murder of nearly 4,000 American soldiers fighting the war in Iraq. Bugliosi sets forth the legal architecture and incontrovertible evidence that President Bush took this nation to war in Iraq under false pretenses—a war that has not only caused the deaths of American soldiers but also over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women, and children; cost the United States over one trillion dollars thus far with no end in sight; and alienated many American allies in the Western world.

As a prosecutor who is dedicated to seeking justice, Bugliosi, in his inimitable style, delivers a non-partisan argument, free from party lines and instead based upon hard facts and pure objectivity.

A searing indictment of the President and his administration, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder also outlines a legally credible pathway to holding our highest government officials accountable for their actions, thereby creating a framework for future occupants of the oval office.

Vincent Bugliosi calls for the United States of America to return to the great nation it once was and can be again. He believes the first step to achieving this goal is to bring those responsible for the war in Iraq to justice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Important Read
Vincent Bugliosi has an exceptional talent in seeing the truth without being distracted.Anyone who still doesn't understand why some of us despise George w. Bush need only read Part I to learn why he and his administration are such a disgrace.

In Part II, veteran prosecutor Bugliosi makes the specific legal case for the potential prosecution of the former president for murder. He demonstrates why and how both federal and state courts have jurisdiction, and reminds us that there is no statute of limitations for murder. He ends the section saying, "Even if this doesn't happen and what I have said receives all of the attention of a new fly in the forest, I do know that someone had to say what is written on the pages of this book."

Part III illustrates why George W. Bush's reputation for being strong against the threat of terrorism is completely undeserved.

The concept of the book is excellent, but the execution needed improvement.Mr. Bugliosi could have used a better editor to handle some of the repetition, and to rein in some of the language.Surely, the topic invites words of disgust, horror and dismay; however, his language often veers into hysteria that threatens to derail the focus on actually prosecuting George W. Bush for the murder of over 4,000 U.S. military personnel in the Iraq war. There were several places where more sober language would have been less disruptive.I also quibble that Mr. Bugliosi always refers to the fallen U.S. service members as fallen young men, and makes no mention of the fallen women.

My hope is that this book doesn't disappear into oblivion, but that it continues to be read, especially by younger people.

5-0 out of 5 stars No question left unturned.
Well, well, well...a lawyer with a talent for writing.Vincent Bugliosi shows YOU how to think clearly about the criminal, Bush Jr.Most of us "sheeple" cannot see the truth clearly, hopelessly addled with the media's barrage of garbage. For many of us the capstone of our stupidity concerning the media is our faith in believing the talking heads. How can so many so-called respectable talking heads be so mindlessly stupid? How can we as citizens be so mindlessly sheepled? The remedy to our sheeple sickness is the clarity is this book by Vincent Bugliosi.Read and heed.Read to set your mind right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing!!
This is a must-read for anyone who even remotely doubts that Bush started his trumped-up war for anything other than ulterior motives. Bugliosi never attempts to try to delve into the narrow-width mind of Dubya to come up with his motives but he presents a compelling and convincing case for Bush's intentions. I was virtually convinced before I read this book that the war was contrived. Now I know it was. Bush/Cheney/Rice&Rumsfeld all belong in prison.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUSH IS THE FALL GUY
I have to agree to disagree. Bush and the Bushes are simply co-conspirators. GW could not even tie his shoes, not to mention control such a huge conspiracy and attack upon the world and the American people. The real family running the world is the enemy of the civilized world and their name is the Rothschild. The other side of the coin is the Rockefellers who are on the same team. These familes have killed millions by financing wars for hundreds of years. They run the Federal Reserve, and BP not to metion own 50% of the world's wealth they acquired through murder and deception. Google these familes, and don't be ignorant. GW is only a pawn. As Lee Harvey Oswald said."I am just a patsy" but GW and his father are way more than patsies, they are murderers and willing participants.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unbiased when it comes to the legal arguments....
The Author's intent is to lay out a case of prosecuting Mr Bush for murder. Namely the murder of over 100,000 innocent Iraq civilians and currently 4400 dead American soldiers sent over there based on lies and fabrication of the facts by Mr Bush and his administration.

It's very obvious MR Vincent Bugliosi cares very little for Mr Bush as a person, politician, man of integrity etc ... It's also very obvious, and stated by the author that Mr Bugliosi swings to the left when it comes to his personal politics.

Mr Bugliosi states quite vigorously through the book that his case is NOT one of politics but one of law. "Had Mr Bush been a democrat" states Mr Bugliosi, "I'd still be writing this book".

His case revolves around the handling and reporting of information that started and sustained the run up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 by the U.S. led coalition. He homes in on "tampering and changing of FBI and CIA data", the Joe Wilson "16 words" incident, Colin Powell's U.N. address and other instances of lying and deceit by the administration. His arguments are persuasive and he backs everything up with references and very reputable sources.

It's very obvious he's angry and coupled with his obvious dislike of Mr Bush I personally feel he did a good job of remaining objective in presenting his case with, supporting evidence that would hold up in court. His charges are based on the conspiracy law which says, in layman's terms, all of the conspirators are equally guilty when, due to their plans and actions, murder has taken place. This was how he prosecuted Manson for the Tate, La Bionca murders.

Spattered throughout the book are instances of Mr Bugliosi's personal opinions of Mr Bush along with some demeaning name calling which, I feel could have been left out but the overall impact is minor on the theme of the book.

I have to admit being apathetic to the Bush presidency and I joined the debate regarding his presidency late after I started to read about and research his and his cabinet's antics. I think Mr Bugliosi has a case. Whether anyone will pick it up or not I don't know. I understand Pelosi has already stated "impeachment is off the table" so - now Mr Bush has left office it's up to a state's prosecutor to bring charges. Mr Bugliosi mentions that soldiers, sailors, airmen etc from all 50 states have been "murdered" by Bush so all 50 state prosecutors could bring charges.

Whatever your politics if you can remain objective this is a pretty good read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
Love him or hate him, this book is a fascinating historical account of Rove's ascendancy from Texas political consultant to White House policy maker woven in with that of W's. Because of its publication date, it doesn't cover the Iraq war debacle, though the authors hint at the duo's motivations for the invasion. Great read for political junkies on either side of the spectrum.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still relevant
This book is particularly relevant concerning the current election and how things are done in this White House. It is difficult to believe someone with Karl Rove's track record is a close presidential advisor, and it says a good deal about a president who chooses a confidant who has exercised the techniques Rove has used.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rove is scary
After reading the book "Boy Genuis" I have came to the conclusion that it is a bad thing that John Kerry is leading in the polls.Rove will go dirty fast because he simply hates to lose.HE has transformed Texas into what he hopes America will become, an unabashed Republican stronghold. His pandering to the religous right by being the liason between the White House and those groups is so laughable considering Rove himself has said religion is unimportant to him. That may be true except on one day every four years, on that day, his role as the Republican party's greatest asset comes in handy.Rove knows that economic conservatives and moral conservatives despise what they "perceive" the Democratic Party stands for: big government, tax hikes, loose morals, diversity, and weak foreign policy.Karl Rove has exploited these perceptions with a "whatever it takes" mentality. He blew through the streets of Austin leaving only like minded conservatives in his wake.He has been in Washington for almost four years, four more and the divide and hate in this country will reach a fevered pitch.Lets hope Nixon and Lee Atwater won't be proud this election cycle. After reading this book, I'm sure they will though.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best and The Scummiest
Every human endeavor has its masters. There are leading physicists, writers, teachers, architects, carpenters and chefs.
The demi-monde also has its corp of top pick-pockets, pimps, snitches and flimflammers. It is to this latter list that we can write the name of Karl Rove. His talents add nothing useful to the world; to the contrary, he and his cabal of mayberry machiavellians' efforts are directed toward finding people's weaknesses and exploiting them, tearing down peoples lives and putting any skeletons on public display, so that "their" guy might win."Boy Genius" depicts the political career of Karl Rove, how he honed his skill and applied them to the benefit of conservative Republicans and especially to George W. Bush.

The authors do give some background information on Rove and briefly describe how he came to embrace right-wing politics.
As a young man, he is described as a "nerd" and one can well imagine that he was the boy who gotten beaten up on the playground at school. But no thorough psychological profiles are hazarded in this work.We learn only that Rove is a rather emotionless person. The authors offer a couple of "Oprah moments" that hint that their subject might harbor some modicum
of humanity.Despite a couple of these excursions into sentimentality, Dubose et al. stick mostly to the political highlights that mark Rove's life. And that is just as well, because we intuit that if we extracted the electoral machinations from this biography, there would be almost nothing left.

But reading this book reveals as much about we Americans and our times as it does about Rove.We would hope to be titilated by some of Rove's underhanded schemes to win elections, but instead find ourselves rather bored with the enterprise. We are used to this sort of dirty dealing and know that both major parties engage in these activities. It's old hat.Karl Rove just happens to be the best and the scummiest at the game that goes on all the time. The victors in political affairs are not those who present the best ideas but rather those who know how to manipulate through the electronic media. We are given in this book an introduction to the Cardinal Richelieu of the Nouveau Regime, Karl Rove.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent primer
This is an excellent primer to the illustrious career of "Bush's Brain" as he is called. Of the two books presently popular ("Bush's Brain" is the other) this is the more balanced and thorough; indeed, it often times seems that the authors of Bush's Brain had used this for their source, and there is very little information in that book that is not in here. Don't bother to read both, if you're just looking for an introduction to the subject. A careful portrait of the crafty man that learned his tricks (and even instructed others in the same) during the time of "Tricky Dick" Nixon himself. Must read if you are at all interested in learning how Bush Jr. got to the oval office and why all the "big money" lined up behind him as miraculously early as it did. ... Read more
