Product Description
Welcome to Kidfluence - an era unlike any other. From what breakfast cereal they buy, to where they vacation, to what car would make a good family vehicle, today's kids are having a dramatic impact on their families' purchasing decisions and on Canadian commerce. And businesses are taking notice. Cereal advertising is geared to kids, cruise lines cater to their desires and car companies invite them into the boardroom.

Just who handed kids the reins of power? There are a number of forces at play among this group often referred to as Generation Y. Their sheer numbers (just over one quarter of the Canadian population) combined with their spending power (a cool $15 billion) and a variety of evolving cultural and societal attitudes have made them a force to be reckoned with.

Generation Y is altering the face of business today and will continue to do so well into the future. From a societal viewpoint, Kidfluence shows you the impact of changing family norms in Canada, evolving parental attitudes and early exposure to new opportunities. From an economic perspective, Kidfluence helps you understand the role of kids in business, shares expert views from across Canada and the U.S. and offers quantitative information on the spending and thinking power of today's kids.

Generation Y will be rocking our universe for the next century - even more so than the baby boomers before them. Are you ready for them Canada?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good background information for marketing.
I bought this book to help create a marketing plan targetted towards kids. I thought it would have information on how to market to them but instead the book was mostly background information. Information like why kids spend money, what they spend it on and what they feel is important. Even though this wasn't what I expected, it still proved to be very useful information. I'm already modifying my marketing plan and business to cater to kids better.

I feel this book will help anyone when marketing to and understanding kids as consumers. I give it 5/5 stars because buying this book will definately help you run your business better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not surprisingly, kids aren't what they used to be!
A mind-expanding read - for anybody who interacts with kids today - parents, teachers, business people. This book explains who Generation Y is and how they got to be that way.Because childhood is something we've all experienced we may think we know what its like to be a kid today - Kidfluence explains why being a kid today is unlike anything experienced by previous generations.Anne Sutherland and Beth Thompson have written a book that is both easy to read and highly informed. They present information from a wide range of sources in a way that is both enlightening and enjoyable - it feels like a conversation rather than a lecture. And, for those who are "skimmers" check out the time saving "speed read summaries" at the end of each chapter. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
Health-conscious parents seem committed to continuing to buy healthy food for their children despite the recession, even as they economise in other areas.

Sales of the leading organic kids’ brands have surprised most commentators by continuing to grow:

  • In the US, the $100 million (€71.9 million) Annie’s brand has recorded sales growth of 25% since September 2008, with no sign of its growth abating yet.
  • In the UK sales of organic baby food increased by 11.7% while non-organic sales grew at just 7%, with even established organic kids brands, such as Germany’s Hipp, growing at 8%.
  • Many new kid-specific brands have all seen double-digit growth, driven by organic or all-natural brand credentials, even as consumers economized in other areas.
While organic brands have performed well, there are other brands that argue that being certified organic isn’t essential - what parents need more is the reassurance that a product is made with ingredients that are “as natural as possible” and free from artificial preservatives, colours and sweeteners.

This 42-page report looks in detail at these different approaches. Using seven detailed case studies we analyse the performance and strategies of leading organic and “all-natural” kids’ snacks and babyfood brands in the US and UK.

The report uses sales data, comparisons of product pricing and marketing strategies, advertising messages and claims, as well as interviews with the CEOs at all the companies profiled.

The report summarises what the companies profiled see as the keys to success, discussing the natural vs organic arguments, branding, positioning, pricing, sourcing healthier ingredients and the challenges of securing distribution. ... Read more
