3-0 out of 5 stars not sure if it was worth the price
Firstly, this is obviously a home-made set. The book looks like it was printed and bound at someplace like Kinko's.The info was ok, but there wasn't much that I couldn't have figured out on my own very quickly. My last complaint is that this is a business set, therefore most people would be buying this to use in business, making it a business expense. However, whoever shipped this didn't seem to make that connection because they didn't include a receipt which is something useful when claiming business expenses on your tax forms.

Bottom line: If this had been half the price, I would have been much happier with this purchase. As it is, I feel like I paid way too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
The author does a great job from if you want building your own trailer to day to day operation . Even if you don't expect to bbq the information can be invaluable for a new start up. The dvd's are professional and well done.

Another great book a start up is Food Booth, The Entrepreneur's Complete Guide to the Food Concession Business

5-0 out of 5 stars The Right Direction....
My interest in BBQ goes far back to my younger days. In the last few years I have had aspirations of starting a mobile BBQ business. Without actual knowledge of the details of such a mobile enterprise or commercial kitchen equipment needed, I turned to this DVD/Book set. I saw a review bashing this set as "retarded" so I decided to share a less ignorant post. Since my purchase I have learned alot about commissaries, building a trailer, limitations, and techniques to the BBQ business. The videos are over an hour long a piece which was more than I expected. Out of over two hours, I would say there was about twenty minutes of information that did not interest me. The book gives a great deal more detais which is complimented by the DVDs. Overall, this set has given me more confidence and direction than I ever had just by being a BBQ connoisseure. It may not be the final push but it definately was a great jump start. Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Concession Resource
I bought the two videos and the accompanying book to research the potential of going into the concession business. This product, as well as the book "Food Booth", are the best information that I have been able to find.Purchasing this item is money well-spent, even if you are not specifically planning on selling BBQ.

There is a lot of good information in the videos and the book, and I am discovering that information is not that easy to find for the concession business. While the book and videos are aimed toward setting up a BBQ business, much of the information provided may be applied toward any concession business.I liked the openness and honesty of the information - things like if you're not making at least $500 per day, it's not worth it.I got the feeling that they really want to help people to get going in the business.

My one complaint is that I sometimes felt like the presentation was not polished, almost like it was a working draft that they decided to publish. This was especially true of the book, which contained some typos and grammatically incorrect sentences. However, in the grand scheme of things, that is minor.Don't let that deter you from buying this product if you want information regarding the concession business.

3-0 out of 5 stars Overall, not too bad. But...
I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know...

I was hoping to learn more of the business/office side of the food service industry...

Such as how to arrive at retail pricing, how to determine if product is being stolen, etc...

Good book/dvds for someone "completely" stupid in customer service, food prep, basic construction, etc...

Useless to a reasonably educated person...

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, informative book -great for beginners
I knew absolutely nothing about running my own business, especialy a house cleaning business. This book was easy to read and I believe covered all the bases.
Got streight to the basics and might have had a little extras in there too.Alot of helpful information on advertising, which was what I needed info. on most. For example, I would have not known to not advertise in the classified adds.I didn't know it was outdated.I have not found ALL their advertising advice to be what I experienced. For example:The suggested you NOT advertise in the yellow pages of the phonebook but online instead, saying you would get greater success by advertsing online. However, I have found the opposite to be true.I have had great success by advertising in the yellow pages of the phonebook and nearly no success by advertising on the internet, but maybe I wasn't putting my add with a prominant enough company.I advertised with a well known telephone company in THEIR directory when I could have advertised with Google and maybe exposed my business to more potential clients.

I would say that this book is absolutely great for beginners and well worth the small investment, especialy if you have had no experience at all with cleaning houses or business in general.

Great info. on taxes, advertsing, record keeping, registering a business name, getting a business liscence, etc... for the *small* house cleaning business (not for those who want a huge company with many employees).

Rhonda

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I had hoped for.
I had hoped for a lot more detailed information in this book.Everything from the price range of advertising to were to look for information was generic and broad. You mean I can go to my library and look things up??!!! Gee thanks for that one! I don't want to be to harsh this book could be so much better with the amount of experience the author claims to have.Didn't get to much of a personal feel like she promised in the very begining of the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thanks!
Thanks! We loved this book! Not your typical boring biz book.
It really seems geared toward people who are starting up without a lot of money. We found the information on taxes and advertising very helpful, we've gotten some new clients based on the search engine information. Very humorous book too. Nice job.
I also recommend Don Aslat's book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok, but missing a lot of info!
Overall this book was ok.Nothing special about it.I am a cleaning business owner and noticed that the book was flawed.I would like the author to please show me where a person can get 1 million dollars worth of insurance for $250-$400 as the book states. Most people can not even get insured for that amount in any state until they have been in business for 3 years. The author left out a lot of information and I would not recommend this book to anyone who is serious about starting a cleaning business. The only thing decent in the book is the appendix, but even that is not detailed enough.I give it two stars for effort and because I am a nice person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutley Wonderful!
This book not only details the ins and outs of running a cleaning business, but it also deals with the emotional and cultural issues that surround housecleaners. This book taught me a lot about dealing with problem people/customers. I especially liked the section on how to get rid of bad customers. No one ever touches on those points, and I'm really glad that these two authors do. Bravo for a book written by human beings and not machines! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money for a real book , not this patronizing tripe
In all reality this book should have been entitled: how to start a home based business, then I would have no problems with this travesty. Instead it has the unmitigated nerve to pass itself off as a book on how to open and operate a communications business. Let's see...as far as I could see here is the breadth and depth of her precious offering...What are you good at? here are a few communications niches to one can fill(paraphrasing here). No, I take back all I have said... go aheaad and buy it. I know it is small of me, but misery loves company, so by all means, buy the damn thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Help for Landscapers
Great help for those getting started in the landscaping business from an experienced author. Level headed advice. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what it says
This book definitely contains the best business advice and most reliable information you will find if you want to enter into landscaping or general yard work.It gives you all the tools you need to start your business, addressing Profit and Loss Statements and other accounting tools. What it doesn't cover is the technical aspects of landscaping itself, such as how to install a sprinkler system or prune/trim a shrub. For this knowledge you have to look elsewhere. However, this book is still a necessity for understanding how the landscaping business works at a fundamental level, and is full of terrific advice on how to conduct yourself, set limitations, and know what is right for you.Don't stop here if you are serious about getting into landscaping, but this is as good a starting place as any if you want to learn more about what it takes to succeed as a home-based landscaping business.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for the price & book size.
The book covers all of the basic neccesitites to getting starting. It also breaks each component down with easy to understand detail. Getting things gowing is hard enough on your own, its great to have this as a reference guise as you go.Would reccomend to all beginers in the landscaping business.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of a kind
I've been amazed at the depth of expertise I've found in the books by Barbara Jennings. I not only understand the mindset of wealthy people better, I feel a lot more confident in seeking them out as clients. I've already followed some of the advice in the book and landed two projects for executive homes in my area. I'm quite certain it would not have happened prior to reading this book. This author's writing style is just to my liking. She explains things so you can easily understand her points and she comes across as a good friend or mentor. The subject of the book is quite simple: stage homes for wealthy people and make more money. Finding people who are wealthy is just one hurdle. Just because someone looks wealthy, or drives a fancy car, or lives in a wealthy neighborhood, isn't what counts. Lots of so-called wealthy people are strapped and leveraged to the point they don't have any disposable income. So the real target market lies hidden - those people who live modestly but who have large portfolios and savings accounts. That's where the real dollars lie waiting to be tapped. I learned not to be afraid of reaching out to people who have been more successful than me and see myself as their equal anyway. The book has given me confidence and should be a real treasure for anyone who gets it.

5-0 out of 5 stars For real estate agents and home stagers seeking to attract and serve affluent clients
STAGING LUXURIOUS HOMES is for real estate agents and home stagers seeking to attract and serve affluent clients - and for owners of affluent homes seeking to assess a sales proposal. Chapters cover making professional presentations to prospective clients, defining personal style, and more - business libraries will find this key. Also perfect for any library catering to real estate agents or homeowners seeking in-depth understanding of the home staging process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Insightful - Pleasurable Reading
This book tackles the subject of running a home staging business from the unique perspective of targeting owners of luxury homes and the real estate agents who represent wealthy clients, and it does a great job of breaking it all down for the reader in easy to understand terms. It is explained that wealthier clients have a mindset that is completely different from regular consumers and that they have to be approached in the right manner and at the right time. I was surprised to discover that my view of what defines a wealthy client was typical but not necessarily the right view. I highly prize the list of national organizations where the upper echelon of society hang out, and the instructions on how to tap into the market in easy, comfortable ways. The author's suggestions made a lot of sense to me and have given me a whole new mindset of how I can increase my clientele in the future to take better advantage of the buying power of the wealthy.I will refer to this book often as there is so much packed into it I'm sure I won't remember it all. I do recommend it to anyone wanting to break into the affluent market. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great focus!
This book helps give a great focus on the family as the central theme of building a home-based business, which is the key motivation to this goal for most folks. Also, the Biblical references help readers reflect on the foundation and origin of enhancing our families. With so many books out there touting how to do it "my way", it was refreshing to see a book written on how to do it God's way. I appreciated the boldness and practicality.

1-0 out of 5 stars worthless!
I bought this book to learn about starting a small business, not to read about the bible... too bad I'm not trying to get into the bible business or this wouldn't have been such a waste of money!

1-0 out of 5 stars A bit about this book.
If you are not a devout Christain you will have a hard time getting through this book. And even though I do consider myself a Christian I didn't make it past page 47. Why? Because, on every page up to page 47 youwill find references to God and/or passages from the Bible. So I have tosay that I was extremely disappointed because I thought I was in for a"how to" book about starting your own home-based business since Iam already a stay at home mom.I don't know what was past page 47 becauseI just couldn't get past it.It was a diffucult read up to that point.Ifyou are of any faith besides Christian I think it will also be a hard onefor you to read however, if you are 1.of the faith and deeply committedto it2. a women 3. thinking of starting your own home based business thenthis is the book for you. But the point that I think folks should realizebefore buying this book is that this book is of a very religious nature andfull of religious references and content. It's sort of like a "Asimple Christian guide on how to start up your own home-basedbusiness".To NOT have the word Christian in the title I feel was abit misleading.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
This particular book didn't have the information I was looking for,it was a very inexpensive used book and it shipped in great time, it just wasn't what I thought it was. Amazon is still the greatest and I will order again.
Thx

5-0 out of 5 stars A great organizational tool
This book was just what I was looking for!I have two babies at home (two years and eight months), and this book really helped me get organized for my new scrapbook business. If you're looking for a book that will help you get organized and learn to use your time wisely--even with kids in the home--this is a great book for you....

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for...
This book is great for people who need serious organizational help.It provides lots of useful tips.I, however, was looking more for information on how much time I am realistically going to have to spend on my home business, and the most efficient way to allocate that time, rather than how to use a day planner and how to organize a cupboard or closet, etc.I pulled a few good tips out though.

5-0 out of 5 stars With 5 children I needed this book! Thank you Juli!
This book was incredible!! I read it from cover to cover in just a few hours. (and I have 4 going on 5 children under the age of 7) What a help. I have implemented the filing organization to my home office and it isrunning so smoothly now. I also reorganized my children's closet (for the100th time) but I used the principles from this book and it has maintainedthe same level of organization for over 5 months! All my children share oneaverage sized room and a normal closet, They are able to keep it clean andtidy almost by themselves, and like I said they are 6, 5, 3, and 1. (the1year old doesn't help much; YET) I am looking forward to tackling thegarage with my husband and by the way he loves the book too. He eventracked Juli down and hired her to help him organize his new Retail Storefiling system and office. He was very impressed at how all she did was thesame things she suggests in her book; only catered to his specific needs. All I can say now is: BUY IT, READ IT, and you'll use it over and over andover.

5-0 out of 5 stars encouragement, balance and organization in one book
After reading several other "get organized" books, this was THE book that encouraged me that I could do it.Many people have told me that I am such an organized person, yet, with I find myself struggling to keepup with it all while juggling between home and business.I am a peopleperson and procrastinate with paperwork.

Juli's book encouraged me toinvolve my family in the process making the systems work for them.Thenthey can help me maintain the home and keep things in their places.Ichanged all my files to match Juli's set up.Now even my husband can findthings easily in the cabinet and actually files them away.

I encourageyou to read the book and take action right away.I feel so good about theprogress we've made as we've reduced the clutter. It's so much easier toregain ground after a short period of imbalance when I am working on aproject and not devoting all day to keeping up the house.

If it'simportant to you to have time for yourself, have a successful business, andhave a family life, too, I encourage you to read this book and FOLLOW whatit says!It will change your life! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great summary of business basics
I found this book to be quite a wake-up call to the realities of home-based business. The author covers material related to managing a business like taxes, insurance, time management, how to handle money, and a bunch of other stuff, and he doesn't apologize for the realistic picture he paints. The only criticism I would make is that it's a little short on information about marketing crafts.Discussions of craft shows, wholesaling, internet marketing, and so forth are very briefly discussed in the final chapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars everything i needed to know
in starting my craft business, this book proved invaluable. he covers how to tell if you are a good fit for a home-based business, how to set up your bookkeeping (the biggest help for me), and how to track and analyze your production processes. definitely recommended if you are thinking about moving from amateur crafter to gettin paid.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good general overview
Simply put, this an easy to read book for one considering entering the craft field as a business and not just as a hobby. Kenn discusses the prosand cons of such a decision and encourages one to think carefully beforestarting a home-based business. He outlines managerial, financial andmarketing templates for the artisan. The material is exact and full ofuseful tips and pitfalls to avoid. Anyone starting a home-based businessshould read his steps and make sure to follow his processes.

The book isnot written with an MBA viewpoint but rather from a down-to-earth andstraightforward one. He uses his past experiences to help the businessneophyte enter this exciting world. His advice is sound and the templatesare practical for anyone starting a home-based business.

Regardless, thisstyle leaves one wanting more craft specific details. While Kenn startedhis own craft business, it is not until the later chapters that there iscraft specific advice. This book could do well for any home-based business.See his other titles for proof.

We had hoped that future editions wouldinclude all of the business templates in popular electronic formats likeWord, Excel or better yet HTML; but still nothing. Finally, we really likethe new updated web and internet tips.See http://www.ijudy.com/ for moredetails. ... Read more
