5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful resource if you are fairly fluent in Japanese.
This is an excellent book if you are an advanced reader of Japanese. Lots useful business terms. If you can't read Japanese, don't bother with this book. There is very little English other than a few introductory pages. It would be an excellent resource for the advanced student and professor of business Japanese. Wish it had been available when I was at Thunderbird.

5-0 out of 5 stars beauty japanese
it is comrpised of 50 lesson units. In my opinion, it is not designed for elementary learners. it is far from that. Every unit contains new japanese words and compound words and then their equivalents in English supplied with example sentences for every new kanji. And you find reading exercises only in Japanese and it rest with your level of Japanese proficiency to translate them into English. No key for translations whatsoever. However this bokok deserves 5 stars and I recommend it for at least intermediate learners. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing,... Only for Techies.
Really disappointed. We purchased this book for use within our Big Five consulting team. For some reason, we never really used it.When I left to work for a smaller strategy consulting firm, I soon found out why.The book is geared exclusively for software and IT proposals. It is so specific that very little transfers to other uses. Also -- and this is a big negative as far as I'm concerned -- there is very little discussion on the importance of stressing client benefits over product attributes. In fact, the book spends most of its time discussing how to communicate product specifications and implementation processes.Understand, buyers purchase your products and services because they benefit the buyer. Not because they are thrilled with your "gee-whiz" and "whiz-bang" product attributes. They want to know how much will this service save me?how much more profit will I earn?Your proposal is a marketing tool.It must clearly underscore the benefits your customer will derive from the purchase of your product or service over other alternatives. However, you never would have known of the importance of writing the proposal from the client's view after having read this disappointing book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A note from the author...
The purpose of this book is to provide you with a practical guide to writing and organizing sales proposals - with emphasis on "practical". Instead of discussing salesmanship 101, sales theories, and proposal war stories, this book focuses on developing the materials and a process for writing winning proposals.

This book is useful not only as a writing guide, but as a proposal resource to show management how professional proposals are resourced, managed, and written. These ideas and others are explored in this new edition. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Old school leadership
The premise of this book is that leadership "is the ability to get the right things accomplished at the right time with the assistance of other people." Consequently, it teaches that the primary skills of a leader are technical and analytical skills - relationship skills come secondary.

If you agree with me that leadership in fact is much more about the ability to help other people getting the right things accomplished at the right time, you might still get something out of this book, but likely not as much as you would have hoped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite an unusual yet amazing book
I had my doubts that a well done skills-based book on management and leadership can be written, but here it is.

Step by step, Ponder lays the foundation to what every one of us leaders need to know--and be reminded of.Particularly like the chapter layout that is categorized around the skills themselves.

My teammates and I have read the book and we feel blessed that there is a professional book that is written for the layman that is easily read, makes sense, and written by someone who has been a manager, leader, and teacher of leadership.

Strongly recommend it for your teams--for $19, you'll recoup several times this amouont.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview and On Target
I thought I knew all I needed to know about leadership and management, but this book has added to my skills. It is easily read and covers all the areas needed in my role as a mid-level manager.I especially liked the categorization of leadership skills into 3 broad-but realistic-areas.

All of my team members will have this book on their desk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, Realistic, Insightful
I strongly recommend The Leader's Guide for several reasons. It is well thought out since it covers most of the events that a manager/supervisor encounters throughout the day.It also addresses the vexing strategic issues one must keep an eye on.Finally, the book is simply well written--easy to read, easy on the eyes, and easy to implement.

Our organization, a large publically held company, is using this in our leadership development classes because it is so useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding overview of leadership
This book lays out well the facts that most readers would enjoying seeing. It distills the many facets of leadership and management and pulls them all together into one coherent book that would be useful to many in the work force. As a senior manager in a large public company, I can attest that this book is right on the money, and my staff and I plan on using it as a definitive guide. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Assisted Me in Forming my S Corp!
I have been looking for a book that details step by step on forming an S Corp. It is light on the accounting end but otherwise I believe it is a good premier on the how to form an s corp. You will still want or need to consult other professionals and also the state and federal guidelines but it is a good read and reference!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good souce for someone who is looking for starting a S-Corporation. However, this book will not provide any information if the corporation desires to have business other then your home state. Also, the CD that contains the forms are not named accuratly. Ther are numbered instead of having the form names. Some of the forms in the CD are missing. However, if someone is planning to open a business, this book will give to a vital information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Small Business Start-Up Kit S-Corporations
An excellent reference for anyone considering starting a business as an S-Corporation.This book contained all the necessary incorporation forms, as well as checklists that helped you complete the process.I foundespecially valuable the marketing plan worksheet, which helped determinewhether the business idea was viable. The only downside of the manual wasthe sparse information given on state by state corporation laws. Forinstance, it would have been helpful to have the Internet addresses foreach state's corporation department. The state that I reside in had statespecific forms on it's Web page which could be downloaded for no fee. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Desk Reference
I finally decided that maintaining a set of university texts as a reference library was not particularly useful or effective. The Barron's Business Library series has enduring utility, is cost effective and does not take up too much space in a book case. Financial Management (3rd ed.) is extremely useful for anyone requiring a concise reference in a convenient size and reasonable price.

1-0 out of 5 stars very basic HR information
I purchased this book hoping it would provide insight into human resources issues that occur when running a business.Unfortunately, it doesn't.It offers little or no "how-to" or useful information.

Renckly's book does provide very basic information, but offers very little that is compelling or informative. In most cases, it simply rehashes common sense.

The most useful portion of the book details what front line managers SHOULD NOT ask in a hiring interview.

1-0 out of 5 stars Information is readily available and Free, don't bother
This reference to LLC's covers less than what can be found on most state web sites. The forms are COPIES of downloadable forms from each state and are outdated. Most of the state fees are incorrect! LLC's are not difficult to file for. In most cases, there are only a couple requirements from each state and the forms can be completed in less than 30 minutes. What is hard about an LLC or any corporate structure is the Operating Agreement (like By Laws), which should be detailed and clearly spell out the rights, responsibilities and limitations placed on the members and managers of the organization. This book shows a couple very general examples but does not even list important areas to "think" about. The Operating Agreement is the most important document of an LLC; it is what creates the legal limiting of liability. The forms sent to the state are simply a formality and can be figured out by following the instructions on the forms themselves.More than 75% of this book lists information for each state and shows copies of forms. This is a waste. This is a no star book, but had to give atleast one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Create an LLC in Your Own State Fast
This book is written by people who clearly know what they're talking about, and who aim to make the LLC simple to understand. They describe how easy it is to create one anywhere in the US and give you everything youneed. The writing is simple, direct, and interesting--no legalese, nojargon. The book gives a clear picture of the advantages of LLCs over otherbusiness structures. Even though the copyright says 1995, the book has beenupdated through 1997 at least because it cites 1997 legislation. Theauthors walk you through the steps of creating the LLC, and provide simpleforms of the five legal documents required--Articles of Organization,Operating Agreement, Listing of Managers, Listing of Members, and Listingof Capital Contributions. It lists state-by-state the address of theSecretary of State, the fees, and state LLC guidelines. Incredibly, thebook includes the actual forms you need for the filing in each state. Ipicked up the book not knowing anything about LLCs and feel I came awaywith a clear picture of how to create one. I appreciate the feeling ofempowerment. However, this book provides the simplest versions of thethings necessary to create an LLC. And stops there. There are many REALLYvaluable items you could include in your Articles of Organization that theauthors could have hinted at without losing that simple feel. Also, thename 'Handbook' is misleading--you'll soon want another book that gives youthe nuts and bolts of funding and operating an LLC. But what the Handbookdoes, it does well. Good book, great price. ... Read more
