Product Description
While a number of books on the market deal with software requirements, this is the first resource to offer you a methodology for discovering and testing the real business requirements that software products must meet in order to provide value. The book provides you with practical techniques that help prevent the main causes of requirements creep, which in turn enhances software development success and satisfaction among the organizations that apply these approaches.Complementing discovery methods, you also learn more than 21 ways to test business requirements from the perspectives of assessing suitability of form, identifying overlooked requirements, and evaluating substance and content.

The powerful techniques and methods presented are applied to a real business case from a company recognized for world-class excellence. You are introduced to the innovative Problem Pyramidtm technique which helps you more reliably identify the real problem and requirements content. From an examination of key methods for gathering and understanding information about requirements, to seven guidelines for documenting and communicating requirements, while avoiding analysis paralysis, this book is a comprehensive, single source for uncovering the real business requirements for your software development projects. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Practical Application
Concise, addressing the essentials of discovering the 'real' business requirements of an organization. Effective and efficient testing methodologies that are readily applicable to requirements analysis. I found the "Problem Pyramid" tool to be particularly useful. Differentiation between the 'business requirements' vs 'system design requirements' was enlightening. Every technologist should be reading this book to ensure that the real business requirements are discovered before any coding begins.Excellent knowledge for account managers and business analysts as well. Strongly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Differentiates Identification of Business Problems from the Solution Alternatives
The 64 ways to test requirements are good and helpful, and you'll need to determine how many of these techniques (and with what rigor) could/should be applied to your project in your organizational context. The greatest benefit for me from reading this book was understanding the distinction Goldsmith makes between business problems and the solution design alternatives that might address them.I've witnessed problems on projects where this distinction was not understood, and I'm convinced that identifying the business problem(s) and business requirements first is critical before undertaking software requirements and solution alternatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Real" information for Business Users to Communicate
This book will be a great aid for me in helping Business Users to make better requests by outlining the business problems in such a way that technicians can meet their needs with fewer false starts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book by an experienced practicioner
I wanted to find a book that I could recommend to my requirements-challenged clients. This was the first I bought and the last I'll need. The author has a solid command of the subject and obvious real-world experience.Nestled among the chapters are over 60 "tests" to tell if you have real requirements.

I only gave it four stars because I was put off by the author's tilting at windmills in the first few chapters as he tries to stave off imagined criticism.

5-0 out of 5 stars Defining requirements for software gurus and the rest of us
This book is eminently readable for all practitioners who have to deal with the challenge of identifying and adequately defining requirements. While the focus of this book is predominantly software, the techniques utilized are equally applicable to other industries. Whether you're dealing with design, process, business or regulatory requirements, having a controlled methodology for assembling, describing, classifying, revising and prioritizing is an oft undervalued organizational asset. Goldsmith makes a significant contribution to the dialog of requirements definition. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Resource
Cirino proves to be an enthusiastic and sophisticated advocate of the library profession. From the management aspect, his recommendations are experienced and current. Aware that the running of a public library is abusiness, the author has written a valuable handbook for public librarydirectors and students of library schools. In the chapter onrecruitment and training, which I enjoyed and appreciated, Cirino addressesthe issue of inadequate pay and working conditions. The amount of devotedadvocates of public library service suggests the increase of prestige, pay,and improved working conditions over time.Sufficient time and effortmust be spent training the high-quality people that libraries must attract.Advancement of the staff's exposure, experiences, education, and theencouragement of growth and change will help set a higher standard forpeople, libraries, and our profession.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring
If you were able to get to this webpage, then you know more about the internet and business than this book will ever teach you. Very outdated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book made the class easier to pass, but had the leftest slant.
I purchased this book for a College Business course. The hardback book looks very nice(almost a black leather look to the front.)
It is very durable.I read all 21 chapters and didn't wear the book or pages at all.Could be used again and again.I purchased it from on Amazon for just under 45.00 and had within 3 or 4 days.
It also came with 4 audio CD's that are very useful. On the CD someone goes over each key point and reviews the chapter. At the end of the chapter are a list of key terms which made an open book test really simple.
The reason I only gave 4 stars is because of the liberal bias thrown around in the book.It seems that every chance they have to give an example, they use some eco company that saves trees or makes organic yogurt..exc.
I passed with a 98/100, and recommend any course that requires this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text for Business and Management
I have used this book in my Business classes for several semesters and for both students and instructors, I think it's one of the best books available. The book covers almost all aspects of business in an interesting manner and with extra features like "talking technology", "going global", "examining ethics", "building a business plan", "adapting to change" and case studies. For instructors, it comes with up-to-the-minute videos, (with video cases & quizzzes) power point slides, overhead transparencies, lecture notes, suggestions for class projects, debate/discussion questions etc.The text book web site (HMCO) has a wealth of info and monthly articles that can be used to launch class discussions. Occasionally there are web conferences with one of the authors (mostly for online instructors). The student edition comes with audio CD's to augment the classroom lecture. All in all an excellent book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Network Marketing for the 21st Century written in 1985
The thought of writing a futuristic book about a burgeoning industry is an interesting concept. Can anybody say "Back to the Future"? I didn't find anything earth shatering in this book except the fact the principles presented are tried and true from a sales point of view: Company, Goals, Training, Products, Persistence, Marketing and Attitude. His assumptions of the expansion of Network Marketing are based on Faith Popcorn's classic "The Popcorn Report". Too bad Rod Nichols hadn't seen Clicking (published in 1998)- the phenomenal followup to The Popcorn Report.

Successful Network Marketing for the 21st Century book is a good primer for someone who wants to learn the industry but I recommend "Guerrilla Multilevel Marketing" by Dr. Jay Conrad Levinson if you really want to explode your downline.

5-0 out of 5 stars Many Specific Examples Given
Rod Nichols has written a book that simply should not be ignored. Chapter 5: Prospecting is worth ten times the price of the book alone. You are given cold and warm market techniques with exact steps and word for wordscripts to use in person and on the telephone.

A sample letter is evenprovided on page 104 to mail to business people. This book is a must have.

Readers are provided with too many examples to explain here. If youserious about network marketing, but unsure what to do, this a great bookfor you. Every reader will find a way they will be comfortablewith.

Presenting, running meetings, prospecting, it's all covered here.

1-0 out of 5 stars I agree with Satina Scott!
I was given this book by a friend who suggested that I read this to get a chuckle. After reading this book, and REALLY forcing myself to do so, in order to get a good idea of what the book is about; I can only concludethat anyone who gives this book mmore then 1 star MUST be in Mr. Nichol'sdownline and was coerced to do so.

As a novice in Network Marketing, I found this book to be an incredible help.It lends a wonderful insight into this field and provides motivational tips that are applicable to new entires like myself as well asto marketers who have worked this industry for many years.

Product Description
Although more and more corporations are including diversity in their business plans, one major group has been left out: people with disabilities. The passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act promised an end to discrimination more than a decade ago, but the unemployment rate for people with disabilities--physical and mental, visible and invisible--remains high, and businesses remain uncertain about how to hire, manage, and market to what is by far America's largest minority.

In this comprehensive guide to incorporating disability into corporate strategies--from hiring to selling to office architecture--Riley argues that disability and business need one another. In exchange for inclusion and empowerment in the workplace, people with disabilities bring a trillion-dollar consumer market to the bargaining table, revenues untapped by most major companies. Instead of relying on the paternal "it's the right thing to do" attitude, Riley emphasizes the business case for inclusion, pointing the way to higher sales volume and a talent pool of creative thinkers, the "user-experts" who know best how to reach the community.

Based on more than 100 interviews with inside sources at Microsoft, IBM, Cingular, Boeing, SunTrust, and other major companies that have already enjoyed success and recognition in the disability field, Riley identifies the best ways to integrate disability into a company's diversity strategy and shows how successful integration has the potential to transform the way a company does business, enhancing profits as well as reputation.

This is the first book to explain disability culture to the full spectrum of industry and across all departments; and it is the first to provide corporate leaders with a master strategy for making disability a productive and profitable aspect of their business plans. Riley's central premise--that the two sides are already capable of helping one another, but have not recognized how to make this happen--speaks directly to the needs of each community and proposes a practical agenda that will directly benefit both. ... Product Description
The primary objective of this book is to provide an understanding of business information in the context of those who seek business information. Information-seeking behavior includes the underlying information needs that drive one to seek information, the types of information used to resolve information needs, the types of resources that contain the needed information, the channels used to secure that information, and effective strategies to locate the needed information. The reason for this approach is that effective business research depends upon the ability to identify the type of information that can be used to resolve a specific business problem rather than by depending on specific resources. Every organization will have access to different collections of resources and information services based on such factors as type of work and budget, among other things. Although there may be some resources that are considered 'better' than others, it is usually possible to find similar, if not identical, information in a variety of resources.Another reason for this approach is that the particular resources are constantly changing. In recent years, there have been numerous mergers among information producers, publishers, and vendors. We have seen a migration from print to electronic, specifically to web access. The tension between free and fee has heightened. Specific sources available today may not be available tomorrow and many will be altered or adapted with different limits placed upon their accessibility. But knowing the type of information needed to resolve a given problem and the strategies that lead quickly to the information enables both information seekers and information professional to find appropriate information even under such prospective changes in the range of source options open in the future. ...
