These organizations will use the funds to leverage private capital to help charter schools construct, acquire, and renovate school facilities. Additional Information: The Department is requesting emergency processing in part because recipients need to receive these funds so that they can identify charter schools to benefit from these funds and establish strategies to leverage funds on behalf of these schools. Furthermore, participating charter schools need to plan their school facility needs. The Department wants all of the initial projects financed to be underway no later than next summer. Summer is the primary season for local educational agencies (LEAs) to undertake school facility renovation projects, when schools are not otherwise in use. Failure to make awards on this schedule will likely cause substantial harm to some charter schools since they may be forced to delay their school renovation projects until the following year.
