The Irish group Riverdance, with its modern version of the jig that inspired American clogging, earned a Grammy and a spot on this years Academy Awards program. Rep. Bob Wise, D-W.Va., clogged his way to Capitol Hill. Wise is often called The Clogging Congressman for dancing through campaign events and small-town parades.

Extractions: dancers 18 years old and older Established in August of 1987, this group of energetic adults named the club after the cream colored bricks found in the Milwaukee area. These dancers range in age from 18 years old and up. They have performed in numerous cities across the United States at conventions, fairs, festivals, society and club meetings, celebrations and many parades and fund-raisers. In December of 1997 they went on a nine day clogging performance tour in Paris, France and London, England. This team being the first clogging group to receive such a wonderful invitation. On January 1st 1999 they performed with the Charlie Daniels Band during the half time program of the Florida Citrus Bowl which appeared on ABC network. In June of 2001 they went on their second Europe clogging tour. This time it was an eleven day clogging performance tour of three cities in Austria. In June of 2003 we will be in Italy for a nine-day clogging tour. dancers 25 years old and under This clogging team was formed to provide the best of clogging for young people. The age range of this group now starts at age 6 and goes through age 24. This is a very enthusiastic group of dancers. Many of these dancers have been performing for over 14 years. Extractions: P ED A NTICS P ED A NTICS is a percussive dance ensemble, specializing in Appalachian Clogging and Flatfooting. We are based in Frederick and surrounding areas of Maryland. PedAntics was founded in 1984 by Tom Hinds, along with a couple of his students, one of whom was current member and chief choreographer Megaera Kuny. In 1984 they were called the Stump Jumpers, until they changed their name to PedAntics in 1994. We travelled to Denmark in 2000, where we were a part of the Square Dance Partners Festival in Kalding. It was great fun and hugely successful. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts: Anita, Mogens and Vagn. Extractions: Clogging is a style of dance that developed in the Appalachian mountains. It is a rhythmic step dance that keeps the beat of the music with the feet tapping and shuffling. Clogging was traditionally done to old time string band music, but clogging teams today dance to many types of music. The roots of clogging are in the folk dances of the Irish, Scottish, British and German people who settled in the Appalachian mountains in the mid 1700s. The rich dance heritage of the African Americans also greatly influenced clogging and introduced more syncopation and body movement to the dances. By the turn of the 20th century, predominately in urban areas, all of these influences culminated into what we now call tap dancing. In the more isolated rural areas of the South, clogging continued as a separate style from tap dancing. In addition to the European and African influences, elements of Native American dance could be seen in the clogging styles that continued in these rural areas. Clogging was known by many different names such as flatfooting, foot stomping and buck dancing and was generally an individual style of dance.
