Product Description
This volume, covering all aspects of computer animation, has been designed as an introduction for designers and animators, and a reference for professionals in computer graphics and computer animation. Both theoretical and practical aspects are presented in detail. Computer animation is treated using concepts familiar to those working in traditional animation. Readers will find material on techniques involved in computer-assisted animation, such as key-frame interpolation and colouring and painting techniques, as well as information about state-of-the-art computer animation and a history of animation systems and languages. This edition brings major changes in various chapters. In particular, the discussion of organizations in the field of computer animation has been updated, and new teams in this area are mentioned. Three-dimensional computer animation is emphasized. The appendix provides a listing of computer-generated films from 1961 to 1989. A complete bibliography of computer animation is given at the end of the book. ... Read more

Product Description
This monograph coherently presents a series of research results on concurrent production systems recently contributed by the author and several co-authors. Before going into the details of concurrent production systems the performance of a single system is discussed. Based on these considerations it is explained how to estimate the efficiency of production systems programs and how to automatically determine efficient join structures. Parallel systems, including algorithms for parallel rule firings, distributed systems under distributed control, and particularly multiagent production systems and the related control issues are investigated. Finally a meta-level control architecture is applied to the construction of the multiagent system CoCo for public telecommunication network control. ... Read more

Product Description
Petri Net Synthesis for Discrete Event Control ofManufacturing Systems develops two essential resource-sharingconcepts: parallel and sequential mutual exclusions and theoreticalresults in Petri synthesis. A parallel mutual exclusion (PME) isdefined to model a resource shared by independent distributedprocesses, and a sequential mutual exclusion is a sequentialcomposition of PMEs, modeling a resource shared bysequentially-related processes.
A hybrid synthesis methodology for Petri net models and controllers isproposed using top-down, modular, and bottom-up design ideas and themutual exclusion theory. An aggregate Petri net model is refined byreplacing places and /or transitions with basic design modules whichare mathematically and graphically described. Petri net design methodsare presented for such buffers as automatic storage and retrievalsystems. Using the proposed method synthesizes both Petri netstructure and feasible initial markings, guaranteeing that resultingPetri nets have desirable system properties such as freedom fromdeadlock and cyclic behavior.
A Petri net controller is extended to error recovery for automatedmanufacturing systems. The theory can guarantee that the desiredsystem properties achieved by the original design will be preservedwhen the controller is augmented to deal with an error in theprescribed methods. Control code has been directly generated fromPetri net definitions. The algorithm and implementation details aregiven for a flexible manufacturing system. Using the approachpresented in Petri Net Synthesis for Discrete Event Control ofManufacturing Systems, engineers and research workers candevelop their own discrete event control applications and experiments.

Product Description
Advanced Low-Power Digital Circuit Techniques presentsseveral novel high performance digital circuit designs that emphasizelow-power and low-voltage operation. These circuits represent a widerange of circuits that are used in state-of-the-art VLSI systems andhence serve as good examples for low-power design. Each chaptercontains a brief introduction that serves as a quick background andgives the motivation behind the design. Each chapter also ends with asummary that briefly explains the contributions contained therein. This makes the book very readable. The reader can skim through thechapters very quickly to get a feel for the design problems presentedin the book and the solutions proposed by the authors. Examples ofcircuits used in systems where low-power is important from reliabilityand portability points of view (such as general-purpose and DSPprocessors) are presented in Chapters 2, 3 and 4. Chapters 5 and 7give examples of circuits used in systems where reliability and moresystem integration are the main driving forces behind lowering thepower consumption. Chapter 6 gives an example of a general purposehigh-performance low-power circuit design. Advanced Low-Power Digital Circuit Techniques is a realdesigner's book. It investigates alternative circuit styles, as wellas architectural alternatives, and gives quantitative results forcomparison in realistic technologies. Several of the circuitspresented have been fabricated so that simulations can be checked. Thecircuits covered are the most important building blocks for manydesigns, so the text will be of direct use to designers. MOS designsare covered, as well as BiCMOS, and there are several novel circuits. ... Read more

Product Description
Robotics is the science that attempts to forge an intelligent, computational connection between perception and action. Perhaps the most fundamental problems in robotics today are uncertainty and error in control, sensing, and modelling. In this monograph the author provides what is perhaps the first systematic treatment of the uncertainty problem. This book descibes the theory he developed for planning compliant motions for tasks such as robotic assembly. The planner can synthesize robot control programs that are robust in the face of uncertainty in the control system, the robot sensors, and variation in the geometry of the assembly. Perhaps the deepest contribution lies in a new theory of Error Detection and Recovery (EDR). While EDR is largely motivated by the problem of uncertainty its applicability may be quite broad. EDR has been a persistent but ill-defined theme in AI and robotics research. The author gives a constructive, geometric definition for EDR strategies, and shows how they may be computed. This theory represents an elegant mathematical attack on the problem of error detection and recovery based on geometric and physical reasoning. Finally, algorithms for the automatic synthesis of EDR strategies are described, and new results on their computational complexity are analyzed. ... Read more

Product Description
Modeling with an Analog Hardware Description Languagespells out, in general terms, what modeling with an analog hardwaredescription language (AHDL) adds to the existing field of computersimulation, using specific examples to develop this understanding. The book is divided into three major sections:* Fundamentals of Modeling provides an overview of generalmodeling and simulation concepts that are used in subsequent chapters. These introductory chapters cover topics such as macromodels, behavioral models, primitive device models, modeling hierarchy,top-down design, non-electrical technologies, and the Newton--Raphsoniterative simulation technique. These topics are presented to helpfurther the understanding of what is needed to develop models in anAHDL.*Model Implementation begins to convey theimplementation details of the MAST AHDL. The chapters in this sectionshow how to use the governing equations of several commonly usedmodels, along with equations that are readily available fromwell-known textbooks and papers. This information is provided in bothtutorial and reference fashion, serving as an introduction to thebasics of the MAST ADHL. Each chapter builds on the information frompreceding chapters in order to demonstrate progressively more complexmodeling concepts. This culminates with the diode and MOSFET modelsgiven in Chapter 9, which are intended to show the depth of the MASTlanguage and which may be of interest to a more specialized segment ofthe modeling population.*Advanced Applications containsseveral examples of designs that use models written in the MAST ADHL.Each example makes use of concepts brought up in the first twosections. The main purpose of these chapters is to illustrate theimportance of using an AHDL to enhance the power of computersimulations. ... Read more
