Product Description
In 1993 Liz Tilberis seemed to have it all. She was a working mother with a family who adored her. As editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazzar, she lived at the center of the glamorous world of international fashion and was widely recognized as one of the most powerful people in the industry. And in 1993, Liz Tilberis was diagnosed with Stage III ovarian cancer.

Suddenly she was faced with the challenge of a lifetime, joining the ranks of the 175,000 women in America with Ovarian cancer. She underwent major surgery, grueling chemothereapy, and, eventually, when the cancer recurred, a life-threatening bone marrow transplant. Through it all she refused to let the disease get the better of her, continuing to participate fully in her life as wife, mother, and career woman. And she eduacted herself about the disease that threatened her life. Ultimately, Tilberis concluded that she developed ovarian cancer as a result of infertility treatments she underwent years earlier--a link that the medical establishment has been reluctant to aknowledge. Her experience led Tilberis to become president of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and to address countless issues surrounding the devastating disease.

From diagnosis through recovery and recurrence, and on to a rich, rewarding, transformed life, No Time to Die is a frank, no-holds-barred look into the world of fashion and a candid account of a battle with a debilitating illness. Approaching every obstacle with optimism, humor and grace, Liz Tilberis has written a story that celebrates life and the ultimate triumph of a passionate, determined, and courageous woman. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Take Time to Live ... Before Life is Ripped Away From You
When she died in 1999, Liz Tilberis was only 51 years old and had battled ovarian cancer for several years. Her influence over the fashion world in the UK and USA was considerable and at the height of success she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Liz was able to chronicle her efforts fighting the disease before it claimed her and in the years since ... one thing is clear ... take time to live ... because as glamorous as life can be ... it is not immunity against a sudden illness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yeah..What
Yeah..What she says..The other reviewer..Good. It's a ball and a blast to find out how other women survive. Jesus loves..Or..But she's a good storyteller. The head editor of Harpers-Bazaar..Yup..A busy woman. Don't want her to die..Vanes

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and also scary....
I don't think this book was promoted very well when it was published.I just happened upon it in a used book store and picked it up because my stepmother had recently died of ovarian cancer-- and also because I'm always interested in reading about the fashion world.Tilberis sometimes came across as a bit shallow; she apparently took the whole fashion world VERY seriously, instead of viewing it with the detachment and "Well, it's a living" attitude of some fashionistas I know. Also, after describing her very long struggle to have children, which ultimately resulted in her adopting two sons, she seemed to have taken little interest in raising them; her husband pretty much was a single parent, while she lived and breathed Harper's Bazaar 24/7.
But on the whole, I really enjoyed the book, especially the insider stuff about the fashion business.I also appreciated the thorough information that Tilberis gives about detection and treatment of ovarian cancer.By the end of the book she seems resigned to dying fairly soon, but is just trying to enjoy every day that is left to her.She died within two years of the book's publication. ... Product Description
Sometimes it becomes imperative for our survival to find new ways to perceive and interpret life’s challenges, to let go of old or habitual patterns in order to make informed decisions and conscious commitments in the present. There is no right or wrong answer. Each of us must navigate her or his own way through the formidable waters of something as alarming as a cancer diagnosis, whether that diagnosis is our own or has become the plight of someone we love. We have the power to choose our own response in any situation. The choices we make may not be the popular choices or the most agreed upon choices, but they must be the choices that are authentic for us. They must be the choices that empower rather than subdue us, and they must be choices for which we are willing to take responsibility.

Perhaps we should not be so much concerned with the length of our life as with its quality. The worst diagnosis of all could be an unlived life. The important query is not how long my lifetime will be in years or what I will die of. The significant questions are:

Am I still growing? • Am I learning? • Am I loving well? • Am I helping others? • Am I making healthy, conscious choices? • Am I contributing in some way to making the world a safer, saner place for all of us? • Am I awake? • Am I present? • Am I saying yes to life now?

This book will speak to any open minded reader who has cancer, fears getting cancer or who loves someone who has cancer. Beyond that, it will speak to anyone who seeks to live in harmony with the way things actually are rather than in habitual resistance to the way things appear to be. You make friends with cancer not by hating it or fighting with it but by acknowledging it as a teacher, accepting what it has to teach you, and continuing on your Journey, one step at a time. ... In this gem, Dawn Nelson shares all of herself.....not just thoughts, but her emotions, feelings, physical reactions. She describes her journey with cancer, exploring her challenges, choices, ups, downs, relationships created during this journey.

I was left with the feeling that through this book, she will accompany many facing cancer and other life limiting illnesses, giving them new perspectives, new hope, new life.

4-0 out of 5 stars I was put off by the title... but I read it all in 2 days
I had just found out I had Ovarian cancer that morning (May 2001), when my husband brought me this book. I was put off by the title, but was curious enough to look at the contents. Under Appendix: Ovarian Cancer Facts. Under the heading "Survival" I found out how serious my illness was. I remember sobbing long and loud. When I had composed myself, I looked at the photos. After seeing Dawn's photo as well as her family's, I started to read the book. I am so glad I did. That morning all I could think of was I am going to die. After reading her book, I realise having cancer today is no longer the same as having cancer ten years ago. Dawn made it. So can I. (Nov. 2002)

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative, inspiring, and highly personal account
The title refers to the author's acceptance of her cancer and what she learned from the experience.I work with cancer patients and found Dawn's graphic description of the process (especially the chemotherapy treatments) very helpful in understand the feelings of my patients. I believe that the book would give hope to others both with ovarian and other forms of cancer. It should be must reading for all oncologists also.

4-0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt description of personal journey through cancer
Dawn Nelson's forte is her abiltiy to relate dealing with cancer both specifically and generally. Whether it is facing the first chemotherapy, receiving the first good news, or navigating through the HMO system, one can be with her as a person and also relate it to everybody else's experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I recently purchased this book to replace a previous edition. This is the best resource that I have found written in layman terms so that anyone can understand the process, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. If you or someone you know is newly diagnosed with cancer, it is well worth purchasing this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book everyone should have
Almost all of us have a friend or relative who is affected by cancer. So very often we rely on uninformed sources for the information we have on their problems and on possible solutions and outcomes. This book is a real source of technical and up-to-date facts presented in a way which is accessible to anyone who is prepared to make just a little effort to understand mediacl language. As a former cancer patient I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended
This is an excellent source of information, given at an appropriate level of detail: not too technical, yet comprehensive enough to be useful.I first purchased it when my mother was diagnosed with cancer and I'm now revisiting it since my son was diagnosed with cancer.Part Five of the book describes treating the common cancers and covers over 51 types of cancer. At the end of each of the 51 sections is an incredibly helpful subsection "The Most Important Questions You Can Ask". For my mother's treatment, I brought the book with me during the doctor's consultation and asked each question that was listed. It opened the door for honest, realistic communication between the doctor, my mother and our family on a host of issues.I intend to bring the book with me for the doctor's consultation with my son.If you or a loved one has cancer, I highly recommend this book.It will serve as a valuable guide and help you to stay focused and informed when the riot of emotions threatens to overwhelm and incapacitate you. ... This is the haunting personal story of one woman's journey through breast cancer, a disease that has reached epidemic proportions and now claims the lives of 46,000 American women each year.

For Barbara Stone, cancer was not a death sentence, but a challenge to become more fully alive, an initiation into a new stage of life. She fought this illness with the best tools Western medicine has been able to discover: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. But she also combined these treatments with the best tools that Eastern medicine could offer: meditation, yoga, herbs, and acupuncture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for all women!
A fascinating and deeply intimate account of one woman's survival of cancer and the journey she travelled to get there. Open and honest about the feelings and thoughts experienced when one is facing death, be it death of the physical self and/or death of the old life to the birth of a new life.Barbara wonderfully incorporates traditional medical therapies with alternative therapies. 5-0 out of 5 stars Teenage Daughter of Breast Cancer Survivor Finds Insight
My mother happens to be friends with Ms. Stone, the author of Cancer asInitiation. It was after I met her that I became compelled to read herbook. My mother also battled breast cancer, and this book gave me a senseof what she might be experiencing. The author uses a unique blend ofjournal, expository, and personal writings, creating a book that isdifficult to put down.I enjoyed learning about her use of both Easternand Western medicine.Cancer as Initiation offers the family members ofbreast cancer victims and survivors hope and peace.Cancer is a blessingand a curse, but frightening to all. After reading Barbara's book, anddoing some soul-searching of my own, I know that if I am ever diagnosedwith breast cancer myself, the power to beat it lies within me, and my ownunique combinations of Western and Eastern medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teenage daughter of a breast cancer survivor finds insight
Barbara Stone not only wrote an enlightening, creative book, she is anamazing person. My mother and Ms. Stone have been good friends since highschool, and I met her earlier this year.I can assure you she practicesall that she preaches.

Being from a relatively small, conservative area,I was not aware of much of the Eastern medicine Stone mentions in her book. I was eager to learn all I could, and Cancer as Initiation provided muchinsight for me into areas I had not previously explored.I was unaware howmuch basic mediatation would eventually help me.

As I examined the bookclosely, I found ideas not only about surviving cancer, but about keeping ahealthy outlook on life as well.Stone's creativity and completely openmind certainly were well used in this book I recommend to anyone touched bycancer in even the smallest way.By moving away from what is commonlycalled the "death sentence" theory, Ms. Stone has painted a newpicture of the cancer survivor. And painted it well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless interplay of Mind/Body Wholeness
The Inner life, the Outer life, and the Transcendant steering of the interplay of emotions makes this a landmark contribution for all interested persons whether they be the cancer patient or family or friend. The writer intensively lives her feeliings and rides this roller coaster displaying the sheer beauty of her thought processes through dreams, journal work, and personal interactions. The use of Kirlian photography to portray her progress is an important feature of the work. She demonstrates the sidestepping of this number one opportunity for passive suicide! It is a great personal vote for engaging life. ... Product Description

Each year, approximately 1.5 million people in the United States and Canada are diagnosed with cancer. This is one family’s story.

Winner of the 2005 Eisner Award in the category of Best Digital Comic for the original Web version, Mom’s Cancer is now available as a graphic novel. An honest, unflinching, and sometimes humorous look at the practical and emotional effect that serious illness can have on patients and their families, Mom’s Cancer is a story of hope—uniquely told in words and illustrations.

Brian Fies is a freelance journalist whose mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. As he and his two sisters struggled with the effects of her illness and her ongoing recovery from treatment, Brian processed the experience in his journal, which took the form of words and pictures.

The story that came to be known as “Mom’s Cancer” first gained notice on the internet. It was posted anonymously, with the intention of sharing information and insights gained from his family’s experience. Thanks to the words and illustrations of Brian Fies, readers have already responded that they were surprised and gratified to realize that they weren’t alone. Abrams ComicArts is proud to bring this story to a whole new audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read cartooning, hard to read story
I came across this book by mistake looking for something else.Something about the artwork and the brutally honest theme seemed to appeal to me, I love a true story more than a fictional one. When I got the book, I read the whole thing in just over an hour, then read it again and again. The story is mostly what it says, his mothers cancer. But every family has more than one story and Mr. Fies is very willing to let us in on his family's foibles and (sometimes embarassing) story. It is stories that most of us could tell, if we were willing to be that honest, but most of us are not that interested in laying out our family issues in this way.In fact, we owe him and his family a debt of gratitude for being willing to share this horrible experience with us.

If you smoke, get this book TODAY and stop.Just stop.If you love someone who smokes, get them this book.If you have a nurse or doctor in your life, give them a copy of this book.It shows the process of serious cancer from (mostly) a laymans standpoint. This book should be in the waiting room of every doctors office.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Insight!
I bought this book for my husband and his siblings. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer this summer. My husband and I have both read the book and it helps to know that we aren't the only family that has traveled this road.Regardless of what part of this journey your family is at, I would highly recommend reading this book. The illustrations make it an easy read and it'll be well worth your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Sometimes Hard To Tell The Poisons From The Cures, Because Sometimes They Are The Same Things
"What to do when pain rips through our brains like a tornado. We need the truth."- Barbara, the author's mother's, wrote that thought after reading this book.

This is an excellent graphic novel about one family's experience with Stage 4 Large-Cell Carcinoma (a.k.a. - Cancer).

A story is often only as good as the heart of the person telling it.If that sentiment is true, it explains in large part why this story is so good.If you can make a story about dealing with your mother's terminal cancer funny and life-affirming, you are creating a pretty intelligent and well-crafted piece of writing.

His artwork is consistently excellent, never distracting, and peaceful in the midst of life-threatening circumstances. The visuals are coordinated with the words fluidly, immediately conveying the ideas and emotions with very few ambiguities. This graphic novel won an Eisner Award in it's online format.

Brian Fies tells us in the preface, "Although I distrust stories with lessons, here is one:No one will care more about your life than you do, and no one is better qualified to chart its course than you are.You are the expert."

As you might expect, like all real stories, this one does not end with everyone living happily ever after. But fortunately, the characters do re-prioritize and choose to change the remaining time in their lives to live as happily as they can until there is no after.

As the preface accurately creates the expectation "Mom's Cancer is an honest, earnest effort to turn something bad into something good."I admire and encourage that human artistic drive, and Brian Fies is successful in achieving that goal and many other beautiful artistic goals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving and more
I'm a consumer health educator and lost my father to a very rare kind of cancer when he was 58, so this book hit me on more than one level of my life. Fies has done a wonderful job. What I find most impressive is that Fies doesn't shy away from discussing the "blame" aspect of a cancer diagnosis. The question of personal accountability for disease is very much part of the family conversation during a health crisis--whether there is scientific evidence for causality or not!--and it needs to be talked about. I'm hoping this graphic novel does make that conversation easier for all of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Close to home
My family shared many of the experiences of the author's family during my mother's cancer. It's compelling, touching and hopeful. ... Read more

This gripping memoir tells the story of a survivor of a 32-year battle with basal cell skin cancer that required 4 major cancer removal surgeries, the amputation ofher nose, and 18 reconstructive surgeries to restore it. In her youth, like many young people of the 1920s and 1930s, Carolyn Shuck underwent X-ray treatments for acne-a medical procedure that almost certainly caused the cancer that would take away her face and almost her life. Through the years of struggling with recurring cancers and devastating treatments, Carolyn led her life as normally as possible, raising three children and volunteering countless hours for Planned Parenthood. This concise guidebook consolidates the main concepts of the cancer gene theory, and provides a framework for understanding the genetic basis of cancer. Focused on the most highly representative genes that underlie the most common cancers, the book is aimed at advanced undergraduates who have completed introductory courses in genetics, biology and biochemistry, medical students, and house medical house staff preparing for board examinations. Primary attention is devoted to the origins of cancer genes and the application of evolutionary theory to explain why the cell clones that harbor cancer genes tend to expand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Short Overview of Cancer Genetics
I had this sitting on my shelf as a backup reference for a few months and finally opened the book. At first I was not impressed but when I began reading it the book is exceptional in its clarity and scope of presentation. If one has read Weinberg, the bible if cancer genetics introduction, then this appears to be quite a step down, but in reality it distills and focuses the topics exceptionally well. Whereas Weinberg goes into massive detail, and rightly so, Bunz focuses on a laser with short clear descriptions and presentations.

Chapter 1 details the now well understood ways in which cell DNA destruction happens. There is a good short presentation of the Vogelstein model and a setting up of the genetic flows which control the steps in the conversion of cells to the metastatic state. The graphics are crisp and well done and satisfy the point to be made.

Chapter 2 is on oncogenes and the chapter provides a good historical perspective and also establishes the lead in for the following chapters. The viral oncogene discussion is typical for its clarity and briefness. It reads very well to the experienced eye and I suspect it will do as well for the uninitiated. I also found the PIK3CA discussion on kinases exceptionally well done and useful for staging the follow on topics.

Chapter 3 on tumor supressor genes is also well done. The discussion on APC and p53 is a good overview and provides adequate basis for building on the topic. The PTEN discussion also establishes the now well understood need to focus on PTEN since it plays such a critical role in many cancers such as that of the prostate.

Chapter 4 is on gene instability and puts all of the elements together.

Chapter 5 is in my opinion the best and it is on the pathways. This is a significant area because by understanding what they are and how to control them perhaps a wealth of treatment options may become available. The author starts with the full pathway map and then goes pathway by pathway. I found the discussion here more focused and clearer than Weinberg. Clearly Weinberg is the gold standard but by reading through Bunz Chapter 5 one can get a short focused and integrated discussion.

Chapter 6 then takes these principles and looks at them from a cancer by cancer set of lenses. This is useful and it allows the reader to focus in on specifics and what is known and not known.

Chapter 7 provides a brief clinical overview.

All in all a superb little gem worth being on many a desk. I find it is worth going back to from time to time.

Yet there is a gap in the literature that this could have addressed, that is the development of true pathway modeling. The ability to link proteins and enzymes to genes, the detailed epigenetic controls, and the catalyst of secondary pathways and inter-cellular communications. Perhaps it is still too early since much of this is yet to be developed in a fully systematic fashion in the literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice new book on cancer genetics
This new book on Cancer Genetics, written in its entirety by Dr. Fred Bunz of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, provides a a very nice introduction to modern Cancer Genetics. It is appropriate for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, as well as medical students. The writing is lucid and concise, and the many figures and diagrams provide useful visual emphasis for particularly important points. Overall, this is an outstanding new volume that would provide a useful backdrop for courses in Cancer Genetics and Biology, as well as being a useful laboratory reference. ... Read more

Product Description
Next to skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. Me, the Crazy Woman and Breast Cancer is about strength, solutions, support and wisdom for the cancer patient, survivor, caregiver or anyone who has a friend or loved one battling a life-threatening illness.

In Me, the Crazy Woman and Breast Cancer, Stacy Shelton had to face every woman's worst nightmare when she was diagnosed, not once, but twice, with breast cancer.

To make matters worse, a new presence, which she dubbed "Crazy Woman," took up residence in her brain, wreaking havoc and forcing her to face her own mortality.

By walking herself through her own death and conquering additional obstacles that sometimes seemed too much to survive, she discovered an enlightened sense of purpose and a newfound way of living, free from fear.

Me, the Crazy Woman and Breast Cancer, is a hauntingly moving memoir that will leave you knowing all life's lessons are to be cherished. More so, it provides a roadmap to solace, both for those who are afflicted with a life-threatening disease and those who love them.

Bob Burg, bestselling author of "The Go-Giver," says "This book should be read - no, it should be devoured, by anyone whose own life or the life of a loved one is affected by this horrible sickness."

Bestselling author, Libby Gill, "You Unstuck: Mastering the New Rules of Risk-taking in Work & Life," says "I know this story will give hope to many people struggling with illness, pain or plain old fear. Read it!"

Publisher and Editor in Chief of "WE Magazine for Women," Heidi Richards Mooney, says, "This book is a true work of art. It is written for the mother, daughter, son, husband, family and friends of those whose loved one is battling breast cancer."

Svetlana Kim, author of "White Pearl and I: A Memoir of a Political Refugee," says Me, the Crazy Woman and Breast Cancer is "Astonishing...along with shock, fear and pain, Stacy Shelton found strength, wisdom and deep gratitude for her life and her loved ones. Her story offers the same for others fighting cancer or for those who love someone with the disease. This story will inspire you to savor each moment of your life and to embrace all that it has to offer - including the obstacles. It will make you forever grateful for God's precious gift called life." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Strength and Wisdom
I met Stacy Shelton this past weekend at Bob Burg's "Extreme Business Makeover" seminar. After Bob spoke, Ms. Shelton came up to speak to me. She immediately touched a chord within me that resonated compassion and concern. After a few moments of sharing, she left and came back with her book and gave me a copy. Awed by her aura of empathy, I went back to the hotel that night and began to read her book. I could not put it down. It was as if two hands reached out, one grabbing my throat, the other holding my heart. I was in "shock and awe" at what Stacy had been through.

John Keats said, "Beauty is truth, truth beauty. That is all ye know on earth and all ye need to know." If Keats could have read Ms. Shelton's book, he would have had so much more to say about what we need to "know". The "beauty and truth" of this magnificent book lies in the courage, strength, conviction, commitment and compassion she emmualtes to others, while acknowledging the "crazy woman" who interrupts her stream of consciousness. This is a must read for everyone. We all know someone who has been through this horrible disease. Ms. Shelton's gut-fully honest portrayal of her fight and her determination gives all of us the common denominators that we need: hope and love!!!! God's Blessings Stacy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Courage
This book is a shining example of courage! The heros of this world are often not the ones that get the blaze of publicity, but the ones who quietly carry on through the hell of disease and disaster.Stacy, you are truly one of the heros.Best wishes, Teresa Martin

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!
This book should be in the hands of every medical professional that deals with anyone on a journey with cancer...fromdiagnosis through treatment.I met Stacy a few years back and had the great fortune of working along side her and becoming her friend in the meantime. I started to read this book as her friend, but being an oncology nurse, it became so much more to me.While I've never had cancer, I've walked part of many people's journeys as their caregiver.I have always said being an oncology nurse is such a blessing. It keeps one grounded and connected to the important things in life.Even with my own experiences, I learned so much from Stacy's personal journey and am so thankful she chose to share it in the way she did.I laughed, cried and wanted to get on a plane just to go give her a hug and hold her, knowing how precious and fragile life is.I am sending copies to all my former co-workers.Every physician and nurse should read it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
This book was a fantastic book. I could not put it down once I started. This book will make every person think differently about breast cancer. Breast cancer runs in my family and this book touched my life. I am very proud to know Stacy personally. Great job my friend.

1-0 out of 5 stars What Your Doctor May Not tell You about colorectal cancer
This book is more useful for someone interested in prevention than it is for someone that already has colorectal cancer. Ibought this book looking for new treatments and hope and didn't find anything that my doctor hadn't already told me.

5-0 out of 5 stars great resource for the lay person
This book was a great resourse to go back to when we had questions about my mother's cancer and her therapy. It did not get into telling personal stories and bring us down just gave us the nitty-gritty about the situation.I advise it to anyone who finds themself facing this battle, by the way mom is in her third year of remission!

3-0 out of 5 stars Watch the dates on books!
The cancer field is growing so fast that books are having a hard time keeping up. This book gave me some standard information, but it is not up to date with procedures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank You Dr Pochapin!!!!!
I cannot fully express my gratitude to Dr Pochapin for creating this sanity-preserving resource! In the course of my diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, and follow-up tests, I was at times lost. This book helped me to hang on, to understand, to feel prepared for all that was happening to me. Cancer is really scary when it has your name on it. Dr Pochapin has a way of relieving some of its "sting" with his way of talking to you like an old friend. I am a survivor for 20 months now and there are still things I refer to in this valuable book!Thank you again Dr Pochapin!!!!!

Product Description
Sir Willlam Keys - veteran of two wars, former president of the Returned Sevices League (RSL), and involved with numerous public and private organizations - discovered just over a year ago that he had prostate cancer. He was unimpressed with the prospects offered by his doctor in Australia and by conventional Western medicine and so sought alternative treatments in China. Sir William details his treatment - herbal mixtures, meditation and harnessing the Chi being just some of the procedures so foreign to him in the beginning but which, he believes, effected his "cure". "Flowers in Winter" is an appealing, inspirational story; it is also a study of a land of ancient custom, of diverse and sometimes tragic history. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource!
This book is amazing.I keep it handy at home to help answer my questions or learn more about the disease. My daughter was diagnosed with retinoblastoma right before Christmas and this book was given to us by a social worker in the hospital. There is an entire chapter about retinoblastoma as well as chapters on many other solid tumor cancers. There are real stories from parents and it is written in language that is informative but easy to understand. It is especially helpful right after diagnosis when all of the jargon is still new. I would caution people to take the advice given in the book and only read sections that are relevant to your situation at the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a lifeline for a parent
I cannot overstate how helpful this book was to me.My daughter was diagnosed with Wilms (kidney) cancer 14 months ago. This book was given to me several days after her initial diagnosis and I turned to it many, many times over the long journey to recovery.Even today, with my daughter happily in remission, I turn to it for help in dealing with late side effects and the emotional consequences of the rollercoaster that is childhood cancer.Of all the books I have read over the past 14 months (and there have been many - I'm an avid reader), this one was absolutely the best.If I could, I would buy up all the copies and give it to every parent of a child with a solid tumor.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
I am a Pediatric Oncology Nurse that buys these books to give to the newly diagnosised families. All of them have told me that it is a wonderful tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars It explains all
This book was recommended to me after my daughter was diagnosed with nueroblastoma. It explains it all.The book is broken down by topic (ie radiation and chemotherepy) and also by tumor.
The language used was easy to understand. The book was my map through the world of childhood cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best resource available about kids with cancer!
If you have found yourself catapulted into the nightmare of having a child with cancer, this book will help you to understand much of the journey to come. No matter what stage your child is in treatment...beginning, middle, finished treatment, relapsed, or palliative...this book is an indispensible resource. Personal stories peppered throughout the book help you come to realize that you are not alone in this battle. This book also has a wonderful list of resources to help families through this hard time. Buy one for yourself, family members (especially in-laws!), your child's pediatrician, your child's teacher, and your closest friends so they can have a glimpse into what you and your child are facing and can help you along the way. 5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just for PC
Rabbi Weinsberg has provided such useful information in this book, that I recommend it even if the health challenge being faced is something other than prostate cancer. The natural health suggestions he makes, the relaxation techniques he describes, are useful for everyone, especially someone about to undergo surgery. Most of all, as a sex educator and couples' coach, I applaud and appreciate his open discussion of the sexual experiences and struggles that accompanied his journey to wellness. He and his wife, in their admirable desire to help others, courageously reveal what normally stays hidden behind closed doors. In so doing, they encourage readers to more comfortably relate to their own sexual situation and to explore ways to improve it.

Prostate cancer affects thousands of men every year, but it isn't a death sentence. With much advice on doing what one can on the medical front, as well as making everyday life more liveable, Rabbi Ed Weinsberg shows much wisdom and sly wit in encouraging his readers to embrace life in their battle. "Conquer Prostate Cancer" is a fine present for anyone faced with the diagnosis.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Prostate Cancer Patients
This book is a must read for any guy diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer.I received it as a gift and ended up e-mailing Rabbi Ed to thank him for writing it.I received the book after having made my treatment decision to undergo laparoscopic robotic prostatectomy.I still had serious doubts and worries about the surgery and more so about its aftermath. The book is most informative and really put me at ease with my decision.

Early stage prostate cancer is unique in that the patient generally must decide upon the method of treatment. This was a decision I struggled with for weeks. If I had read the book at that time I believe the selection process would have been much less difficult. If you have been recently diagnosed I wish you well and implore you to read this book.I plan to tell my urologist to recommend it to future patients

This is the first book that discusses the subjects of diagnosis, therapy, therapy assessment, and prognosis of lung and prostate cancer in one single volume.

Cancer killed 6.7 million people around the world in 2002, and this figure is expected to rise to 10.1 million in 2020. After diagnosis, survival at 5 years in the United States is 15%.

This second volume in the series Methods of Cancer Diagnosis, Therapy and Prognosis presents a comprehensive treatise on all aspects of Lung and Prostate cancer, including diagnosis, treatments and prognosis. Scientists and Clinicians have contributed state of the art chapters on their respective areas of expertise providing the reader a whole field view of lung and prostate cancer management.
