Product Description
Much of this text results from improved therapy for coronary artery disease, particularly acute myocardial infarction, for which the age adjusted mortality has declined by some 30% in the past 10 years. Accordingly, there has been increasing attention paid to congestive heart failure and there has been interest in developing new therapeutic approaches and modalities. The increasing interest in congestive heart failure has brought us an improved understanding of the pathophysiology of the condition, which, in turn, has permitted a more rational application of therapy. This monograph is designed to provide comprehensive information regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure. It is hoped that this book will be valuable to primary care physicians, as well as cardiologists. The sections of the book dealing with treatment are designed to provide up-to-date information about the application and appropriate use of established and emerging therapies. This book should be of interest to cardiologists and primary care physicians. ... Read more

Product Description
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a disease that originates from an inadequacy of the heart to maintain blood circulation, resulting in congestion and edema in the body tissues. CHF affects about five million patients in the US alone and an estimated 23 million patients worldwide, and is the only cardiac disease that is growing in prevalence, due to both increasing survival rates of myocardial infarctions and ageing population. In this book, the authors aim to uncover the many hormonal influences on myocardial function and discuss possible aetiological mechanisms, diagnostic modalities and management strategies of the Takotsubo syndrome. ... Remarkable progress has been made in understanding and treating heart failure. Among other developments, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and b blockers have been found to have beneficial therapeutic effects, reinforcing the view that heart failure may be both a hemodynamic and a neurohumoral disorder. The Japanese Heart Failure Society was established to curb the threat of heart failure through research, education, and clinical practice. At the Societys 2nd Annual Scientific Meeting in Sapporo, molecular biologists, physiologists, clinicians, surgeons, and researchers in related fields met to strengthen professional bonds for the ultimate goal of preventing death from heart failure. This book contains presentations from the Sapporo conference that provide new insights into heart failure in the areas of pathophysiology, cardiac sudden death, medical and surgical treatment, and promising new gene therapy. ... Product Description

Dr. Louis Ignarro discovered "the atom" of cardiovascular health--a tiny molecule called Nitric Oxide.NO, as it is known by chemists, is a signaling molecule produced by the body, and is a vasodilator that helps control blood flow to every part of the body.Dr. Ignarro's findings led to the development of Viagra.Nitric Oxide has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system as well.

NO relaxes and enlarges the blood vessels, prevents blood clots that trigger strokes and heart attacks, and regulates blood pressure and the accumulation of plaque in the blood vessels.Dr. Ignarro's current research indicates that Nitric Oxide may help lower cholesterol by facilitating the actions of statin drugs like Lipitor.

The goal of the regimen presented in NO More Heart Disease is to age proof the cardiovascular system, keeping the vascular network clean and elastic through enhanced NO productivity. The plan is easy-to-follow without extreme lifestyle adjustments, involving taking supplements to stimulate Nitric Oxide production, incorporating NO friendly food into the diet, and a moderate exercise program.

5-0 out of 5 stars : NO More Heart Disease: How Nitric Oxide Can Prevent--Even Reverse--Heart Disease and Strokes (Paperback)
I read this book after trying Nitric Oxide, however, I read an article on the Internet about Dr. Ignarro research for which he won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work in Nitric Oxide. I am a Veteran who had lung surgery related to Agent Orange exposure. Heart disease is a part of the disease as is coronary artery disease. I started taking the two supplements L-Argine and L-Carnitine in September of 2008, as I had blockage in my lower extremities and was in danger of losing my big toe to diabetes. About six months after taking the supplements I was tested there was no blockage. I recently had a physical and my blood pressure went down 30 points and for a 62 year old man my current blood pressure is 118/78. There was a new test that was administered from a blood sample on my heart. For my age the reading should be in excess of 600 for a man my age, the reading was less than 10. There is no heart problems today as there was just two years ago. I found the book informative and I thank Dr. thank Dr. Ignarrio for writing about his research. I credit him with saving my feet by allowing more blood flow through my femoral arteries, and my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars alternative medicine
I researched an alternative to the use of a statin for cholesterol lowering after suffering an eye stroke. This book, along with two others, was recommended to me for the use of NO (nitric oxide) as a "cocktail." I read it, highlighted and tabbed and went for it! It has been two weeks but feel stronger (p.s. I eliminated all Rx except for a coated aspirin, with MD's o.k.), more motivated and look forward to other gains. I will be 80 in January and felt quality of life more important than a drug-induced, possible aching bones, approach. Be assured, the o.k. of your physician is very important but I believe mine has enough faith in me to say o.k., just watch your blood pressure as this could lower it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Chinese Herbs and Traditional Chinese Medicine is a better choice
I have a family history of heart disease.. father and grandfather died at 42 and 40 and I have high cholesterol. My brother had 3 stents inserted last year.Needless to say we are very interested when something potentially helpful comes across our paths. While the book has some good information and it is veiled with vague warnings of success/ or not I have found that natural raw herbs from a Chinese Herbalist and acupuncture physician here in central Florida. Feifei Liu of Winter Park Fl has a HUGE fresh herbal pharmacy. My energy is up, sleeping is better and my cholesterol is down........all naturally. Before you stuff another pill down your throat looking for a miracle cure...give it a try. FLTCM dot com

This review is for the book: Living Heart Diet
by Dr. William Debakey, et al.

This is an excellent book for those who have had heart problems and for those who do not want to develop heart problems. Poor diet (high fat/cholesterol) is one of the main risk factors for heart disease -- excess cholesterol lays a foundation of plaque in your arteries that can eventually cause heart attacks and/or necessitate heart surgery. This book was developed to help us all eat right and help avoide disease. This book contains recipes, education about heart disease, and nutrition and sodium tables for most of the foods you eat. This is an excellent resource! Use it in good health!

5-0 out of 5 stars A true gem of a book
This book is an exhaustive compilation of articles written by leading cardiologists and medical researchers who study the diseases andfunctioning of the heart. The sheer size of the book (over 2600 pages) makeit a challenge to read entirely, but the articles that can be read areworthwhile spending time on. The only minus to the book is that there areno articles on the mathematical or computational modeling of the heart. Butfor studies in anatomy and physiology of the heart, and treatment of heartdisease, this book is excellent. One would expect a higher price for thebook considering its size and the color plates it has enclosed, so even at$150.00 it is still really a bargain. ... Read more
