great book
I'v actually bought this book twice because I was dumb enough to loan it out once.Never again.

Informational but repetitive
Although very informational with a mass of websites, organizations, first-hand interviews and books to use as references I found some of the vital points repetitive.It's a great book that could have used a couple more re-writes.Having said that, if I had to do it again I would still buy the book.

Priscilla is an old friend from my early days in the field and she is the *perfect* person to put together a book on the ins and outs of a career in librarianship! A must-read for librarians and information professionals!

Out of date
Out of date, old. Good if all you want is a discussion of the certification process. I highly recommend Ian K. Fisher's "How to Start a Career in Information Technology".

Exercise Caution
A career in IT (if you want to be successful) requires a great deal of your personal time to study new technologies, or even a new programming language (or even a new version of programming language). I have worked with a lot of entry level IT individuals and the drop-out rate is far more than any other position in our company (retail/distributor). I think I understand why these people are failing and returning to their old careers. That is because they have dreamt of landing the entry-level Administrator, or web developer role from the get go. In the IT community there is a great deal of Mentor/Student relationships in companies. A lot of entry-level people are not willing to take direction from individuals that may be many years younger than them, or they have no college education. The few entry-level individuals that have survived and thrived came into the company with a willing to learn, take direction, and honesty with their expectations. In addition, they studied when they went home and took a REAL personal interest in the details of their job. After a few years on mentoring they were more than ready for administration.

This is a great book with lots of detail
I picked this book up because I've just started my studies in IT and I was curious to know what careers there were in the field. This book gave me a nice overview, and focused my energies. I'm not saying what aspect of IT interests me most. :)
The book discusses five central aspects of IT careers: programming, networking, support, databases, and Internet-related stuff. Further, the book is detailed and describes the different areas of IT in-depth, and gives extensive resources for further reading. I actually read this book in one day. It was captivating.

Useless
There is absolutely nothing new or useful in this book that you cannot find by hitting the google search. Also, there is no info on materials used in the actual exams and/or tranings. Watch the sleeper cell show and you shall get a better idea of the most challenging work an special agent might end up doing.

Average
While this book offered some interesting information, it did not present much information that I did not already know from casual research. Some parts of the book were none too detailed. Contrary to the title, it does not offer tips for getting hired.

Excellent! Great read & informative.
I don't like a lot of authors' writing styles. But, this guy reads like the classics. I am very picky; I can pick-up a book & put it down after reading the first page because it's garbage. This guy, however, flows in his writing. And he sounds like he's been in the Bureau for most of his life & can walk you through it. Very thorough, but not too much. Bravo! to the author.

Good for the Purpose!
This is book in indeed good for the person wanting to become a Special Agent.Not so useful, if looking to join the FBI in a professional career other than being a SA.

a good resource to help you narrow down your internew job search effectively

Great Resource Book
As Career Planning Host for bellaonline.com, I was interested to read this book as part of my research for my series on the online job search.What I discovered was that it was not a book to "read" as much as a wonderful resource which would reduce my internet research time by hours!

This is not a book of how to's - it has a few sections discussing career planning and eresumes, but refers you to websites for more information.You can find information on how to write eresumes and submit online on my site, or all over the internet.

What this book DOES have is links - separated by position type, state, even country.The legwork is done for you - and it allows you to target your job search to whatever industry or area you want - look up the lists of links for your target, and submit from there.

I note, however, that because of the dynamics of the internet, that resources like this can never stay current.Admittedly, since publication, some websites have merged or gone, but from my research, the majority of them were current and easy to find.

A valuable resource for targetting your job search.

A great resource!
This is NOT a book on cyber resumes---there are whole tomes devoted to that topic. It IS a comprehensively researched listing of sites from the common to the highly specialized. I use this as a text in my graduate classto train counselors who work in one-stop career centers and in collegeplacement offices. It's a great resource for sites and ideas on how to bestuse the Internet for finding a job: clear, concise and free of hype. Highlyrecommended.

Major disappointment
This is the first Amazon book I've ever returned, but I did so in a heartbeat. Despite the long list of online sites - as advertised - there was no useful information on preparing a resume for online submission,despite a whole "chapter" on the subject (6 pages, actually).There is not a single reference to the use of keywords in your resume,strategies for tailoring a resume for companies who insist on online /electronic submission, beyond the trivial "use an asterisk for abullet"...

If you're only looking for sites to submit your resumeto, I suppose this would be useful. But if you want guidance as to how tohelp your resume rise to the top of the electronic stack, this book is awaste of money.

Great selection for one entering the field!
This book contains a lot of general information about the library profession. As an individual getting ready to embark on the M.L.S. journey, I found it useful.
