The music industry is an area where you must always watch your back as more and more people try to make it big and step on your dreams and goals to fulfill theirs. A decent guide that presents ways in which not to get involved on other people's business and get the best out of the efforts you are making to succeed. The book also presents the majority of scams and deceit plans that lawyer and other people have installed for you. 5-0 out of 5 stars A holistic view of the music business
Recently I was looking for a book to learn more about the music business, contracts, marketing, new ways of distribution, etc. I encountered this book and was surprised by the lack of reviews. But nevertheless I decided to get a sample into my kindle and read the first chapter. After that I bought it and kept reading. The book isdivided into 14 different lessons which are organized in a logical manner analogous to the way you go into starting a business, producing and album and selling it. The book covers a lot of material and it iswritten in a very friendly way, easy to understand, but still using a language that professionals are not to going to find silly (if you know what I mean). If you've been doing music for a while, you will find that many of the things you already do. But there are some not very obvious things that are worth the reading of the book. I am sure it will vary depending on the kind of experience you've had. I will say it is a very holistic , and not that superficial, coverage of the music business. It is a fact that music is changing so fast that without doubt many of the things in this book will soon be obsolete, i.e.software programs, websites, etc. So I hope that there is an update at some point in the future. This being said I don't feel the book is dated in any significant way at this point. If you are interested in music and music business you willdefinitely find some sound advice and a lot of inspiration in this book. It opened my mind in many ways.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Old music vs. new, old methods vs. new methods, digital vs. analog, all these "enemies" are presented here in detail coupled with an analysis of cons and pros of every part involved. The book is a bible for those just starting in the music industry, and a revelation for people that have been in the business for a long time. New technologies and methods take over the old school and many people have a hard time adjusting, this title will help all these people get through the transition easy and without problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was a great overview
of what is needed in order to suceed in todays music industry.Well written and inspiring it is a very enjoyable read for anyone just starting out in the business or veterans who wish to touch up on all aspects of the industry.I enjoyed the inspiring words from Bob Clearmountain and Bob Ludwig.

They will learn clever ways to communicate with fans via the Internet, how to set up a Web site and what features the site should offer, and how to add art and lyrics to MP3 files-thereby making these files a more effective marketing tool.

This hit single is sure crowd pleasure.
This disc catches alot of listeners attention because the music is very different to what we are use to hearing today. This disc tremendously stands out from all the rest.

2-0 out of 5 stars i recently read two books on promoting MP3s -- conclusion
i recently read two books on promoting MP3s and after some consideration, I think this was the lesser of the two, mainly because of the high cost. You basically pay a lot of money for a glossy cover and some nice pictures. You get the same information, and some better examples, in BUZZ YOUR MP3, an electronic book I discovered here at Amazon.I'm not saying this is a bad book -- it is very well written and the tips are fine -- but why pay so much for this book when you can get something else that is just as good in every way for a lot, lot less? Both books are about using MP3s to further your career. Both are well written. But this one just costs too much.Sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific, "user friendly" guide for serious musicians.
John Hedtke and Sandy Bradley's MP3 For Musicians is packed with detailson how a musician might present music on the web, from communicating withfans and deciding how to feature one's music to locating additionalresources on the web and understanding and using basic MP3 resources.Highly recommended: the specific information tailored to musicians isunparalleled.

Million-Dollar Mistakes presents the stories of when people in the music business were dead wrong. From contract and copyright screw-ups to sheer arrogance and lying, Million-Dollar Mistakes includes tidbits such as the pitfalls of employing a family member, the marketability of suicide, and the industry’s accepted levels of mendacity and thievery. Moses Avalon's title has good background information coupled with witty explanations and additional breaking information about some of the more recent success stories. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!
This book is biography, psychological study, and musical commentary all rolled in to one. His biography would be fascinating standing on its own- from his Jewish upbringing in Newark, NJ, to his involvement in the Korean war (and his harrowing stories from that time in his life), wealthy patronesses, famous piano teachers, and the sort. But he also graces us with brilliant observations on music and faith, piano playing, and challenges the system that schools such as Julliard implement.

Mr. Bernstein has written a gem of a book. Though it is not instructional along the lines of "With Your Own Two Hands", I think it offers plenty of inspiration by way of his own life. Those who are studying music as a profession will find it interesting to see how a person managed to have an excellent career and overcome many difficulties. Those who, like I, are considered "Professional Amateurs" will find inspiration and solace in Mr. Bernstein's advice to those who truly love music but wish not to make it a profession. And those curious about how the music world works will be regaled with wonderful, sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, stories about the musician's life.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised.
Do not believe the book description!Frankly, I find it very misleading. This book is NOT a sequel to "With your own two hands".It is the personal memoirs of Mr. Bernstein, and poor ones at that. After reading nearly 100 pages, I could not tell why Mr. Bernstein even wrote the book.Mr. Bernstein relates an incident where a well-known writer implies that Mr. Bernstein has not done enough to write his memoirs.I'm afraid that Mr. Bernstein should have followed his friend's advice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Read!! Miss you Cass!!
This is A VERY rare book about one of the greatest singers of our time...the beautiful Cass Elliot! If you have the chance to order this great title, DO SO NOW! You will not be dissapointed! The book pretty much covers everything about Cass' life and career, and then some. I ordered this book along with the more recent "Dream A Little Dream Of Me: The Life Of Cass Elliot" and they both make good companions together. As A big fan of Cass, I find that this book is required to own as well as the other more recent title I mentioned. The Author writes in A way that grips you from the start. Included are many, many, black and white photos, A complete discography, A listing of her many television apperances, and even A copy of the FBI report on her! If you love Cass...do yourself A favor and obtain A copy of this wonderful book before it's long gone! The money you spend will be worth it!
