5-0 out of 5 stars Small But Mighty!
This is one of a series of very fine cookbooks in the "Nitty Gritty" line. They may be familiar to owners of bread machines (I got one included in mine which is how I learned about these fine little books).CASSEROLES is a great addition and can usually produce a suprisingly good meal with suprisingly little work! The recipes are clear, straight-forward, and use things that are usually on hand. And when you get visitors, they will minimize the time in the kitchen while maximizing times with guests. As a result I have had to give away several copies to friends who keep asking "...how did you make that great chicken"?And the easy answer is see page 116!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Casserole Recipes!
This cookbook is perfect for any casserole lover! The chapters include, "Hearty Meat Casseroles", "Chicken and Seafood Casseroles", "International Favorites", "Side Dishesand Vegetables", "Soup-Er Easy", "Can DoCasseroles", and "Breakfast and Brunch". The recipes notonly taste great, but they are easy to make! You'll have a hard timedeciding which casserole to make first!I have over 300 cookbooks, andthis one is definitely one of my favorites! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing Chinese Casserole Cookery
My copy of this book was published in 1978.I have used it regularly. Each time my family gets together I surprise them with another wonderful dish made from this lovely cookbook.I was also happy to see Ms. Kah and I have matured gracefully over these years.During the last 26 years I have made almost all the dishes, repeated several time after time and still love it. Don't be afraid to give this book a real try -- you'll be happy you did. ... Read more

Product Description
When originally published in 1914, the author said: "The casserole deserves to be better known. The purpose of this book is to bring it into more general use by the successful hostess, who is always ready to receive and apply new suggestions, and it is the wish of the author that it will meet with her hearty co-operation and approval. "This book is the result of practical experience and close observation, and includes the favorite recipes of many famous modern chefs. "Some of the recipes call for expensive materials, but the majority contain simple, inexpensive ingredients which are quite as acceptable when carefully prepared and daintily served." ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This NITTY GRITTY book is EXCELLENT for Slow Cookers!
The SELLER, however, is another story - "internationalbooks" stated policy is:
"We ship every day. We accept returns if a book was shipped incorrectly, or is in a different condition than advertised. We will refund when book is returned, to verify condition of book. Books that are sent correctly and no longer wanted will be refunded the purchase price only. Returns must be returned within 7 days of delivery date. CDs, DVDs, videos, CD-Roms, and cassettes are non- refundable."

WISH I HAD SEEN THE above policy before I ordered from "international books"! This book arrived TWO WEEKS after I ordered it and was in VERY BAD condition, tho the envelope it was shipped in was in PERFECT condition. The book was sent to me in POOR condition by the SELLER who stated on Amazon that it was in "Very Good" condition! I have to PAY to return the book for them to SEE the condition, in order to request a refund. Of course, going to that expense would be just STUPID, but not as STUPID as ordering in GOOD FAITH from "internationalbooks" and getting taken! So be warned!

4-0 out of 5 stars All types of simple recipes
This is a varied compilation of recipes, about 140 or so total, ranging from meat dishes deserts. It's well organized and the instructions are easy to follow. In addition, there aren't too many "odd-ball" ingredients that are difficult to get.

Crock-pot cooking is generally pretty easy anyway--for most of the recipes you just throw all the ingredients in and come back several hours later to a delicious meal.

I bought the book specifically looking for vegetarian recipes; I didn't notice until later that the same author has an entire book devoted to such. However, there are several vegetarian recipes in this book too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love my crockpot, love this book.
I cook with my crockpot at least once a week.I am always hunting for new good recipes to keep my family happy. This book was full of them!It has all the old standbys, but also has a significant number of recipes whichI've never seen elsewhere before. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I needed an infusion of new recipes
I ended up with a months worth of dinner ideas from this book, so far, we've had about 17 recipes from the book, and they have all been a hit.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for people who like cooking or living long lives
Be aware that the recipes in this book are either ridiculously high in fat and/or sodium (and I'm not a low-fat prude by any means) or rely heavily on premade ingredients.

Sample recipe: "Homestyle Chili.Open 3 cans of chili and put them in your slow cooker.Turn it on.Eight hours later, enjoy a delicious home-made chili treat." OK, I'm exaggerating a little. But you get the point.

This book might be acceptable for convenience cooks.Myself, I don't consider a chili recipe a real recipe when one of the ingredients is "canned chili."If you do, maybe this book is for you.Otherwise, there are wayyy better "one dish meal" cookbooks available.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best cookbook ever
The recipes are easy, and tasty with a lot of variety.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great looking casseroles and one-dish meals
I have not yet used any of the recipes in this book but I have
reviewed all of them. The only problem I have with it is that
some people may have to alter the recipes to get rid of some
of the salt and fat. They look absolutely delicious and a book
like this would be used over and over. Pillsbury
cookbooks are my favorites. Their recipes are excellent!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok, nothing special
I bought this book because I was searching for recipes which I can prepare in advance and leave for my family when I'm away. I have tried a few of the recipes (Bacon Cheeseburger Upside Down Pizza, Baked Ravioli with Meatballs, and a few others)and they have all been good. In other words, my family and I were never displeased with any of the recipes, but they were never excited about any of them either. But we are used to more flavorful dishes since I cook mostly Vietnamese and Mexican dishes. The recipes are really easy to follow though and the pictures are wonderful (most of which looked better than they taste). Overall, the book is great, the recipes are so-so. The dishes in here don't really excite the taste buds, but I'm sure with some experimentation and imagination, anyone can customize them and "kick them up a few notches." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Homes and Gardens Biggest Book of Casseroles
We first borrowed this book from the library and loved it.They are easy delicious meals using ingredients most pantries are stocked with.I make most first thing in the morning and then dont have to concern myself with dinner..just put it in the oven..voila....super book I wouldnt be without it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Biggest Book of Casseroles
This book is chock full of easy recipes using items that are probably already in your cupboard.I rated 4 star only b/c I am a visual person and there aren't pics of most dishes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great casserole book
This is a great and comprehensive book. It covers breads, breakfasts, meat, vegetarian, and dessert casseroles with make-ahead hints, a list for a well-stocked, casserole-friendly pantry and general casserole tips. I have made at least 8 casseroles (from various categories) in the book and they have all turned out very well. Most were incredibly easy, too. This is my first and only casserole book and I'm very happy with it- I don't think I need another one since I feel like this one covers just about everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yummy Recipes
I haven't made anything from this book yet but they all look really delicious. The only drawback that I can think of is that all of the recipes are unhealthy. Almost every recipe has biscuits or bread products and a lot of cheese in each recipe. It's really not healthy. But every recipe looks delicous and simple and mouthwatering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Busy Family needs this Book!
This book is amazing. Most of the recipes are made with staple items you have on hand!No funky seasonings or strange vegetables.Whip up the casserole at naptime, pop it in the oven before dinner, All Set!!!!!!Substitutions are very easy, add some frozen veggies to make it more nutritious!! I can not rave enough about this book.MAny of the brunch casseroles can also serve as dinner.I have now given this book as gifts to expectant mothers.....Huge timesaver, great meals!!Can't go wrong! ...
