Product Description
More than ever, American industry- especially the semiconductor industry- is using statistical methods to improve its competitive edge in the world market. It is becoming more imperative that graduate engineers have solid statistical know-how, yet engineers in industry typically are not well-prepared to use statistics and they are fuzzy about how to apply statistical tools and techniques. This valuable reference makes statistical methods easier and more accessible to engineers.

Although the book can be read sequentially, like a normal textbook, it is designed to be used as a handbook, pointing the reader to the topics and sections pertinent to a particular type of statistical problem. It contains the following features:

* Covers all major topics treated in a standard college engineering statistics course, but minimizes the mathematical derivations and focuses on practical applications
* Uses real data sets/case studies taken from electronics, electrical engineering, and other engineering fields, such as mechanical and chemical engineering
* Contains numerous software examples using the powerful statistical functions of Excel

In addition, the book provides an "engineering problem solver" section that directs the reader to the relevant section of the book for the problem they are trying to solve. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the Excel data sets for the examples and case studies given in the book, along with other statistical tools and software.

* Filled with practical techniques directly applicable on the job

* Contains hundreds of solved problems and case studies, using real data sets

* Avoids unnecessary theory ... Read more

Product Description
This major new edition of a popular undergraduate text covers topics of interest to chemical engineers taking courses on fluid flow. These topics include non-Newtonian flow, gas-liquid two-phase flow, pumping and mixing. It expands on the explanations of principles given in the first edition and is more self-contained. Two strong features of the first edition were the extensive derivation of equations and worked examples to illustrate calculation procedures. These have been retained. A new extended introductory chapter has been provided to give the student a thorough basis to understand the methods covered in subsequent chapters.

Product Description
The purpose of this book is to convey to undergraduate students an understanding of those areas of process control that all chemical engineers need to know. The presentation is concise, readable and restricted to only essential elements. The methods presented have been successfully applied in industry to solve real problems. Analysis of closedloop dynamics in the time, Laplace, frequency and sample-data domains are covered. Designing simple regulatory control systems for multivariable processes is discussed. The practical aspects of process control are presented sizing control valves, tuning controllers, developing control structures and considering interaction between plant design and control. Practical simple identification methods are also covered. ... Read more

Product Description
Intended primarily for undergraduate chemical-engineering students, this book also includes material which bridges the gap between undergraduate and graduate requirements. The introduction contains a listing of the principal types of reactors employed in the chemical industry, with diagrams and examples of their use. There is then a brief exploration of the concepts employed in later sections for modelling and sizing reactors, followed by basic information on stoichiometry and thermodynamics, and the kinetics of homogeneous and catalyzed reactions. Subsequent chapters are devoted to reactor sizing and modelling in some simple situations, and more detailed coverage of the design and operation of the principal reactor types. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reactor Design
This is book is extremely informative and detailed. It begins by taking the reader through reaction stoichiometry and thermodynamics and how this is modelled. Extensive mathematical models are developed for catalytic surfaces such as concealed active sites within a porous surface. Then sizing calculations are shown for many different types of reactor including non-ideal flow and three phase reactors.
Most importantly though, the book includes problems with solutions to give the reader vital practice working with real life problems. ... Read more

Product Description
Engineers and other applied scientists are frequently faced with models of complex systems for which no rigorous mathematical solution can be calculated. Numerical approximations are thus frequently used to predict the behavior of such systems, either based on real-life measurements or on the behavior of simpler models.
An engineer's companion for using numerical methods for the solution of complex mathematical problems. It explains the theory behind current numerical methods and shows how to use them in a step-by-step fashion, focusing on interpolation and regression models.
The methods and examples are taken from a wide range of scientific and engineering fields, including chemical and electrical engineering, physics, medicine, and environmental science.
The material is based on several courses for scientists and engineers taught by the authors, and all the exercises and problems are classroom-tested. The software needed is available by way of a freely accessible program library at the University of Milan that provides up-to-date software tools for all the methods described in the book. ... Product Description
This textbook covers the themodynamics needed by chemical engineers both in their engineering and in their chemistry; it is intended for use in all undergraduate and some graduate-level courses. The authors emphasize a rigorous yet concise presentation of the fundamental chemical concepts governing the behavior of single and multicomponent mixtures, including phase and chemical equilibria. In the application of these concepts, consideration is given to the presentation of experimentally measured thermodynamic properties, and to their prediction for real fluids and their mixtures using methods founded on statistical mechanics. Several applications involving the transfer of heat and work that are of special importance to chemical engineers are studied in detail to show the use of thermodynamics in improving performance. The book is written in SI units and contains worked examples, exercises, and problems.J. S. Rowlinson is Dr. Lee's Professor of Physical Chemistry in the University of Oxford. K. E. Bett and G. Saville are Lecturers in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College, University of London. ... Read more

Product Description
Light end materials, such as LNG or LPG, have poor safety reputation because of a few famous incidents such as Cleveland, Feyzin, Los Alfaques and Mexico City but when handled properly by well-trained personnel in correctly design installations, they present no more risk than other energy sources. This booklet raises the awareness of operators, engineers and technicians to the main hazards of light ends (methane to penthane). Using examples of actual accidents, enabling operators to spot and rectify potential hazards before incidents occur.

IChemE, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, is the center for chemical, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete trash!
If you pick up this book expecting it to be anything like Lindenburg's FE study guides, you'll end up badly disappointed. The coverage is slapdash at best, and there are only two or three example problems per chapter--not nearly as thorough a practice as you need.

What really tears it, though, is the practice exams included at the end of the book. I started working one of them a few days ago and gave up after the first ten problems. Not because I couldn't figure them out, but because the solutions were flat-out wrong. A sophomore ChE student could do a better job of solving these problems than the book did.

The only place this book belongs is in the trash can--which just happens to be where my copy ended up earlier this week. ... Read more
