Product Description
People who enjoyed A Little Princess, The Parent Trap, or Mary Christmas may enjoy reading Timothy Fish's new book, Searching For Mom.In this book, Mark Dawson has raised Sara alone.Sara has never had a mother and while she has a good relationship with her Dad, the influence of this single parent on her life is evident. Sara knows how to fight and can beat up boys older than her.She dresses like a boy.The only girly thing in her room is a doll and that has been relegated to holding Sara's baseball. After her teacher gives her an assignment to write about a woman she has never known, Sara decides that she will go find a mother. It is a difficult task, and when Sara finds a woman who meets her expectations, she finds that neither her Dad nor the woman is pleased with her efforts to bring them together.Timothy Fish has woven together an entertaining story with enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing all the way to the end of the book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Book to Read
Sara Dawson is a girl with a problem, she has no mother, but that is a problem she intends to fix.Disguising herself as her father, Sara begins searching for a mother through an online dating site.At first, she has little success, but when Ellen Stephens responds, things couldn't be better.Ellen owns a café and pastry shop and is everything that Sara could possibly want in a mother. The two of them become fast friends and Sara begins spending more and more time in Ellen's café, but that isn't enough.Sara won't be happy until she brings Ellen and her father together. Her plan is simple.Lock them in the school basement and they are sure to realize how perfect they are for each other, but when her plan fails and Ellen agrees to marry Rob instead of Sara's Dad, Sara must find another way to bring them together or lose her ideal Mom forever.

This was a fun book to read.It is told primarily from Sara's point of view.Sara comes across as very confident and she's afraid of nothing. She knows what she wants and thinks she knows how to get it.It is one of my favorites, so if you want my opinion, I think you should buy it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Necessary Reference Book
This 250-page reference guide includes biographical material on 140 authors of great books for children and young adults, and it also lists alphabetically several quality series such as Landmark, "We Were There," Vision Biographies, Childhood of Famous Americans, etc. Any parent who does much reading aloud to his children will find Who Should We Then Read? necessary for his reference shelf. When our children were young and we were reading to them for long stretches each day, I would often search for other lesser known books by our favorite authors -- books not often found in our local library. Who Should We Then Read? has done that work for me. For example, every title by Howard Pyle is listed, and all one needs to do is order them by interlibrary loan. In fact, I'm delighted to find a Pyle book listed which we've never read -- Twilight Land. What a resource! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The way Children's books should be written
[close] This short tale of how the Blackfoot came to have the horse is written the way I think all children's stories should be written. It never 'talks down' to the child, nor does it 'protect' the reader by sugar coating the harsher facts of life.

There is much more to the book than just the discovery of a horse by a young girl. There is also a wealth of detail about the everyday life of the plains indian. I would recommend it for anyone, child or adult, who would like to know more about life among the early Montana Indians. [close]

5-0 out of 5 stars A unique story of a young Native American girl
Follis Cheatham's Spotted Flower And The Ponokomita is a unique story of a young Native American girl of the Blackfeet Nation, in what would one day be the state of Montana, and her first encounter with the strange new beast called a "horse". This engaging, informative, and highly entertaining story is enhanced for young readers with an "Afterword", a bibliography, a listing of places to visit in the area where the story takes place (including the Blackfeet Indian Reservation), and thematically appropriate Internet websites. Spotted Flower And The Ponokomita would make a welcome addition to a classroom or homeschooling Native American studies curriculum supplemental reading list, as well as any school or community library collection. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I don't think too Heighley of it
Only 8-1/2 minutes of Nilsson, then a LOT of blather from this prim and priggish Princeton pupil "Bruce Heighley" who takes himself WAY too seriously and is not fit to lick the floor where Harry Nilsson puked.Well, Nilsson's songs are not terrible, and if you'd like the comfort of his voice wrapped around a few Christmas snippets, go ahead and throw your cash at this thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Little Touch of Schmilsson for Christmas
The Presence of Christmas was originally sold on LP by mail order. The album of Christmas stories, produced by Harry Nilsson's cousin, included instrumental recordings of traditional Christmas songs. Later, Harry Nilsson recorded vocals over the existing orchestral recordings and the album was reissued as an "audiobook" and on CD.

There is some charm to the stories and, although Nilsson's performances are uninspired, it's still great to hear him.

An original Christmas song by Harry Nilsson is heard in Ziggy's Gift, an animated Christmas special with music by Harry's friend, Perry Botkin.

2-0 out of 5 stars This ain't no book!
This cd contains narrations by Bruce Heighley wich are quite nice but superfluous for Harry Nilsson fans.
The christmas songs performed by Harry are terrible. His voice is in bad shape.
I think the songs are recorded just after the pussycats album. Harry damaged his voice during the recording of that album (thanks to John Lennon).

If you are a true Harry Nilsson fan you must have this cd because it contains 5 tracks you can't get anywhere else. If you don't want to be dissapointed and want to have a nice christmas-cd than skip this one and buy the christmasalbum by Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, the Moody Blues, Steven Curtis Chapman or Neil Diamond ...
