Product Description
It's not easy to be a Christian in high school. There's so much pressure--A.P. English, relationships, hockey practice, SATs, getting into college; every day of high school has more than its fair share of demands. Trying to follow God sometimes just adds to the stress.

How to Stay Christian in High School shows you how to deal with the rigors and temptations of high school life without giving up. By looking at some of the most famous teenagers in the Bible-people like Joseph, David, Mary, and Timothy--you'll see that following God's will isn't always easy, but it definitely pays off. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Being a Christian isn't easy...
How to Stay Christian in High School

Times are tough and certainly it is no different for those who are at a critical stage of development. How can you share your faith with those whom you are acquainted with without alienating yourself? Some practical advice is given by Steve Gerali about how to do just that and how to remain true to God without letting yourself become a part of the, "world". Just being a Christian isn't enough it is a learning process and a battle for your beliefs. The devil will use your peers to tempt and deceive you and you must be willing to be firm in your foundation in Jesus. It is no cake walk to become a follower and no easy row to hoe when it comes to staying on the narrow path but I believe that with the Holy Bible in hand and other resources like this book from Steve Gerali you can at least get a glimpse of the hope that we have as Christians to defend our faith and make sure that our friends and family do not end up in a place separated from their Creator. I highly recommend this book, not only for teens, but parents of teens as well. It gives some insight to the struggles that our teens face in everyday society and the world of high school! Take care, God Bless and Tweet ya later!

5-0 out of 5 stars As the author says, "Being a Christian is tough, but it's worth it"
Christian teens know that it's a daily battle to live a Christian life while they are surrounded by other teens who are focused on themselves and who could care less about God.This book uses examples of real teenagers in the Bible to explain how to live a Christian life during high school. The author gives the reader golden nuggets like, "If you want to be a Christian in high school . . . make Jesus the foundation of your life" and "If you want to stay a Christian in high school, you have to be willing to allow Jesus to gradually replace the rotten stuff with the good stuff", among others. This book will help you to remain strong in the Lord during high school!

5-0 out of 5 stars For Christian people of all ages
Every Christian should read this book!Excellent!!!! Lots to say about living out the Christian faith and what that means each day of life. ... Read more

This book is a great tool for my philosophy class. I love the charts that simplify the things discussed. The Book was sent to me in great condition- brand new.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Christian Philosophy of Education Book
This was the last book I completed from the ACSI required reading list. I chose to read this book last simply because it was the biggest of the five books. :-) Despite the 365 pages, it really did not take long to read. I found Foundations of Christian School Education to be the most beneficial of the Christian education books I have read. The book consists of 19 chapters written by 20 different authors. I have actually had the privilege to learn directly from some of the authors through courses I have taken and conferences that I have attended. These authors all express a Biblical worldview and help teach us how to be the effective educators God wants us to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
Overall, this book is a good introduction to christian education..its history and some philosophy behind it.

It presents theories of education and learning and addresses a broad range of topics. It uses both christian and secular references and goes through many of the major "movements" in American education. This book had a good bit in common with a text book that I had while taking educational philosophy class in grad school (at a secular school), but tops that general base with specific christian references and education history.

It does, however, read VERY much like a textbook, so don't expect an "on the edge of your seat" read or much, if any, humor.

Overall, this is a solid book and if you had to buy one book to serve as a general educational theories / christian ed. book, this would be a good choice. It is not as "deep" or philosophical as some of the other christian education books, so can be easier to read and more practical. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Heather Cox is not the author of this edition.
The 2000 editon by Heather Cox is top-notch.It is excellent in both content and readability with bright illustrations and wide margins for plenty of space to take notes.

The reason I am giving this such a low number of stars is because this listing is in error.I was looking for the edition authored by Heather Cox which was published in 2000. I bought one on [...] (thrift books)that was advertsied as by Heather Cox and published in 2000, but I was sent this edition which was authored by John S. Wetzel and published in 1985.This edition will not go with the other materials such as the Lab Manuals by Heather Cox.

I have not read this edition, but I have it now.Thrift Books did not have the edition I paid for and did allow me to keep the book sent in error, which was listed for $[...], but I paid about $[...] for shipping.

I will give the seller the benefit of the doubt, but I wanted the textbook, and received the workbook. The products listed in my search match the ISBN for the textbook. As a librarian I assume that the two cannot share ISBNs, therefore thought I would receive the text. Your items listed in the search should specify, they often do not do so. This is important when selling materials that come in both textbook and workbook format. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE source for home schooling
I recently completed reading the book The Christian Home School, written by Gregg Harris, the father of famed Joshua Harris, Senior Pastor of Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD, and the author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye and Boy Meets Girl. Everything you ever wanted to know about home schooling, its history, defusing myths about home schooled students and the legal ramifications of home schooling are found in this book! I wrote an article for a church newsletter several years ago which included interviewing two home schooled students and in comparison, my article STUNK! This book is a MUST if you are considering home schooling!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best..........
I actually did not care for this book. I have homeschooled my daughter for 2 1/2 years and I needed to read a few books on homeschooling for a course I was going through. If you are new to homeschooling, I think there are alot better books out there. Overall, I agreed with most of the book, but, I felt it was pretty extreme and not for the average Christian. I felt there wasn't enough useful information for the person starting out. Instead, there was too much information on starting a family business, etc. Although starting a family business may be a good thing for some, it isn't the main thing a family starting out in homeschooling desires.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soon to be homeschooling mom
I LOVED this book - Provides sound background on why you should homeschool and how to get started. It helped me tip my husband on the issue and we're both ready to get started.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Christian Home School by Gregg Harris
I was not considering home schooling at all until I read this book. The author is very direct in his own personal opinions and I had to remember that this is one person's opinion yet I was feeling very convicted andchallenged as I read. The book is also very encouraging especially tothose of us who have never thought we could homeschool. The author givesalot of suggestions for curriculum as well as additional reading on thesubject.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Essential, Practical, Enlightening
"Serving God on the Christian School Board" is brief, well organized, and incredibly well informed, drawing on decades of experience by the authors, as well as post-initial-publishing updates. While it is somewhat of a "dry" read, it is meant to be, as it is a book addressing clearly the roles and responsibilities of the members of a good Christian School Board, in a direct and succinct manner. It not only answers key questions one may have, but more importantly provides a framework for how to approach one's responsibilities overall--which invariably (for me, certainly!) leads to asking other questions about which one had not previously pondered.I would suggest that this book be required reading for every member of a Christian School Board--at minimum by the officers of the board. And for those considering the responsibility of such service, it is an outstanding introduction to what it means, as well as to how to get started.I am thankful that this book was written--it helped me tremendously when in this role. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A little more historical and theological nuance, please
There is a lot of good content in this book, and I don't want to question the good intent of the authors and publishers. But it's not humble enough for my taste. I'll give one ironic example that shows the problematic "American exceptionalism" approach this book takes:

At the end of the table of contents, Romans 13:1-7 is prominently displayed. This passage includes the words, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.... Whosoever ... resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation... For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers.... Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom...." It their original historical context, these words were written by Paul to Christians in Rome who were suffering under, among other things, oppressive taxation. Paul was admonishing them to not try to overthrow the government. Several years before this letter, the Jews had caused such disturbances in Rome that they were temporarily banished from the city. A year after the letter, there was a tax revolt. These are the kinds of activities Paul seems to be warning against in his letter to the Romans.

Yet, after quoting Paul's warnings, this textbook exalts the Declaration of Independence, which justifies overthrowing British rule of the colonies--because of, among other things, oppressive taxation!

A second level of irony is found by comparing the clause "there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God" (Romans) with the clause "governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed" (Declaration of Independence). So, from whose authority do governments receive their power--from man, or from God? Which is right--God's Word, or the Declaration of Independence? The author's attempts to revere both make for a text that is unsatisfactory for anyone who truly reveres either one above the other.

Find another book that is both more historically balanced and more faithful to the spirit of Jesus.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good facts, too preachy
I had to use this book for a homeschooling group I belong to.There's far too much preaching in certain parts for my taste. And it's certainly very PROTESTANT, pointing out that almost all our Presidents were Protestant (how did that work out with Clinton?) and that our country is built on a PROTESTANT work ethic. No mention of the fact that it was Catholics who discovered the place and were here about 100 years before Jamestown ... but all this stuff is easy enough to skip, and you can actually learn a lot about how our government functions from this book. I suppose in many other books, there is a lot of leftist cant, so it's probably hard to find one that's "Just the facts, Ma'am." ... Read more

If I had not had to read this book as part of a class assignment I would have thrown it away halfway into the first chapter.I had been asked to write a 25 page book report on this book. That would have required me to write out the book verbatim and add even more fluff than was already in the book.I believe it was chapter seven that was nothing more than a chapter long advertisement for A Beka Books.I had to plead with my professor, who I do not believe has ever read this book, to allow me to only write a ten page report and add the other 15 pages onto another report that I had been assigned.DO NOT waste your money or your time! ...
