In 1905, Sirola was appointed as Secretary of the SDP, a role which enabled him to play an active part in the general strike of that year. Sirola also wrote several books on social and political themes and translated works by August Strindberg and Karl Kautsky to Finnish. Sirola was elected as a member of the parliament from the SDP from 1907 to 1909. He was forced into emigration by the Tsarist government, however, landing in America. During the Nigerian Civil war, otherwise known as the Biafran War, thousands of people were killed and families torn apart. The Tail End is a real life story that follows Ebo and his nephew, Emeje as they are taken from their village to fight for Biafra. Since the war has been going on for more than two years, voluntary service in the army has been reluctant, and as Ebo and Emeje were returning from the river, they were taken against their will and sends into training. Their antidote to homesickness is to keep together both through training and the war front but as the war intensifies, they are separated, and they both witness the horrors of one of the crudest of wars. This book will draw you, the reader straight into the happenings and keep you spellbound as you follow these soldiers and their companions as they sweat it out in The Tail End. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars reincarnation, civil war
Engrossing subject matter and personal stories make for a fascinating reading. The book really makes you think about what your own past lives might involve.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reincarnation Questionable
Some reviews have sighted this material which is based on hypnotic regression as being proof of reincarnation. Science disavows reincarnation stating that 5 or more people have claimed to be Queen Elizabeth. They can't all be Queen Elizabeth, that would be absurd. But there is an explanation. When research was conducted on the names of the people with whom her subjects (Civil War reenactors) stated that they were those individuals really did exist.Even the town names and events mentioned were traceable. When the exploration of this information was taken one step further through genealogy it was determined that the individuals mentioned through/during hypnosis regression were actually ancestors of the subject (great, great grandfathers and such).Hence, memories of past events were being transmitted by genetic design. This doesn't rule out the possibility of reincarnation but definitely explains why different people who claim to be someone in a previous life (for which more than one person makes the same claim) may in fact just be genetically related to that individual. This may also explain why they have a fascination with reenacting events from that previous/historic era.The same held true for individuals who reenact Medieval themes.Something to ponder on!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting views!
Barbara Lane has taken several people that are for the most part reenactors or people absolutely hooked on the Civil War era and basically gave them a past life reading through hypnosis.Barbara Lane writes about each person she has regressed and also writes about their history, how they became interested in the Civil War and what they gained from being regressed or views about themselves. Many times they were shocked, or non-believers about the concept of being hypnotically regressed to go back to a past life and reveal situations of a life time that involved the Civil War era.How their lives in another life time were discussed to show how their lives are effected this time around. It was all very interesting.Reenactors and people interested in reincarnation would love this book as it offers further insight in to strange, but yet unusually accurate ideas about past lives.Who knows, if you love the Civil War, perhaps you were alive back then?Read this book to discover your similarities!

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to an extent, but then..............
At first this book was fascinating and believable, but as you progress it loses its momentum. Pretty soon all of the regressed patients have exactly the same story. Lots of shooting, smoke, fields, woods, and marching on and on and on. It seems to me that at least one or two of them should have a different experience.....anything different, but they are all the same. Makes you wonder.......

5-0 out of 5 stars So realistic, I felt like I was there
Mrs. Lane told the story so realistically that I could almost feel as if I were right there in the Civil War period. It brought it to life for me. I would definitely like to read more by this author! ... Read more

Product Description
In June 1862, James J. Archer was promoted to the rank of brigadier general by Robert E. Lee. Serving with distinction in prominent battles such as those at Bull Run, Chancellorsville and Harpers Ferry, this lawyer-turned-general earned not only the respect of his superiors but the esteem and admiration of his men. Imprisoned first at Fort Delaware and then at Johnson s Island, Archer was one of theFirst Fifty(and as it turned out only) officers to be part of a Confederate/Union prisoner exchange. Upon returning to the Confederacy, Archer resumed command and served until his death from battle wounds in October 1864. From doctors to lawyers and privates to generals, this volume records the stories of a few special people-such as General James Archer-who chose to serve their country during the Civil War. Twenty-four individuals from both sides of the Mason-Dixon line are remembered for their extraordinary and often little known contributions to the Confederate and Union causes. These include Colonel Thomas Rose, who was in charge of the Libby Prison tunnel; Colonel John R. Winston, who was one of the few to escape from the Federal prison on Johnson s Island; Sally Tompkins, who ran a private hospital in Richmond; and Sergeant Richard Kirkland, who risked his life to take water to the Federal troops at Fredericksburg. Other featured individuals include Susie Baker King Taylor, Colonel Hector McKethan, Dr. Mary Walker and Richard Thomas Zarvona. Contemporary sources include a variety of correspondence and diaries from these subjects and those who knew them. Appendices contain a roll of participants in the Great Locomotive Chase; a list of Federal prisoners who escaped through the Libby Prison tunnel; a directory of Confederate officers on board the Maple Leaf; and the history of the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Confederate Roll of Honor. A number of contemporary photographs are also included. ... Read more
