From the supplier: A case study of Internet-based collaborative learning in a kindergarten through sixth grade classroom environment is presented. Teachers found that dedicating time to learn new hardware and software tools could be nearly impossible, and the school's lab of 24 Windows 95 machines was not especially useful despite its state-of-the-art software and ADSL Internet connection. School staff also found that teaching students how to use a particular piece of software or code in HTML made them focus on the computer itself rather than the content. Educating parents about the potential of the Internet was another challenge. The school chose the software program Zebu for its ease of teacher training and Internet integration, slowly integrating the Internet into existing classrooms. Zebu let teachers flexibly design projects that met a variety of needs. It is now used by all grade levels within the school, which has received help from Learning Systems and MC2.

Product Description
This book is a product of a dissertation project that was completed in December2006. This project investigated teachers' experiences in relation to teaching and learningusing the hybrid-context instructional model. The dissertation itself has been noted as oneof the best in providing practical tips for teachers in this area. The study methodology isincluded as appendix B. To answer the questions raised during the interviews, the findingsof the study have been supplemented and supported with extensive literature review ofempirical studies to provide theoretical and practical solutions. The literature review drawsfrom total Internet, blended, and hybrid instruction studies. The literature on the totalInternet instruction has relevance in that the Internet piece of the hybrid-context course shares the same course managementsystems and requires the same approaches and principles as do total Internet instruction. The book discusses the conceptualand descriptive presentations of the hybrid-context model, media, applicable teaching philosophies; strategies bestaccomplished in each medium; various ways of linking the face-to-face and the Internet activities; the why and how thestudy participants transitioned into teaching hybrid-context courses, teachers' expectations, etc. The discussion on 'labor oflove' is the core of this book as the discussion has captured the surprises the study participants met in a way that is notreflected in the current literature. Built into this discussion are the amounts of things teachers had to learn in order tofunction well as hybrid-context model teachers. The contents of this book will aide teachers who teach in any way using theInternet. Therefore, any establishment/individual using the Internet for teaching andlearning will benefit from the contents of this book. Also, the administrators will findthis book a selling point to encourage more participation in the adoption of thehybrid-context instructional model as well as realizing what the teachers would needto successfully implement this phenomenon. ...
