2-0 out of 5 stars Ok book
Didn't find this to be very helpful at all when it came to actually helping me prepare for my nursing school exams.

1-0 out of 5 stars Barron's How to Prepare for the NET?!?.....yeah right!
I would give this book no stars if I could. It was simply a waste of money and time. I studied the book thoroughly only to find out that the NET test in TX was nothing like it. When you sign up to take the NET just by the book that's provided by educational resources its structured exactly like the test.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dont bother with the Math section
There are so many errors in the match section of this book! They do not even know what the proper algebraic usage is for multiplication/division versus addition/subtraction! They give you one question, but when they deduce the answer it is a totally different question, so of course your answers are going to be wrong! I didnt even bother with the Science section, this book is going in the garbage pile!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book for general review but...
...not based on what was on my Nursing Entrance Test.I took the NET today (and received a score I'm happy with) so I have to give this book some credit, with the emphasis on "some." After completing this book and using it solely as my review/study guide, I am a bit disappointed.Credit due, this was a very good, well-written, somewhat helpful book but not (known now after taking the test) what I should have been looking for.The problem being it has a lot of areas that are NOT on the test. When studying for a test of this magnitude (a requirement of a specific score to be Qualified to even Apply to nursing school,) I want to Know I am studying what is ON the NET and NOT any unessential information.

Chapter One, the Introduction, was very helpful general nursing information covering: "What Nurses Do," "Is Nursing Right for Me?" "Schools of Nursing and Food for Thought," "Financial Assistance," "Getting into Nursing School" and more. For this chapter and the practical Chapter Two: "Test-Taking Strategies and Reasoning," I give the book an extra star.
Chapter Three: Verbal Ability----NOT on NET
Chapter Four: Reading Comprehension----On NET
Chapter Five: Numberic Ability---On NET (but not a complete study review.) The NET is basically 50% math and 50% reading so this is very important. Also most of the math on the NET has a fraction, decimal or percentage which isn't dealt with as much as needed in this book.
Chapter Six: Science Review----NOT on NET (but I enjoyed it and it confirmed to me that I have a "knack" for nursing, as I did very well on it. A great overview of physical and organic sciences.)
Chapter Seven: Model Examinations----Not very helpful again because the focus wasn't on reading and math solely but lots of impertinent material.
Maybe this is a great book for some NET tests but for Tennessee, it isn't the best choice.

Soar Future Nurses!

Product Description
COMPASS Exam Practice Questions are the simplest way to prepare for the COMPASS test. Practice is an essential part of preparing for a test and improving a test taker’s chance of success. The best way to practice taking a test is by going through lots of practice test questions. If someone has never taken a practice test, then they are unprepared for the types of questions and answer choices that they will encounter on the official test. There is a tremendous advantage to someone taking the test that is already familiar with the questions and answer choices.Another advantage of taking practice tests is that you can assess your performance and see if you need to study and practice more, or if you’re already prepared enough to achieve success on your test day. If you do well on the practice test, then you know you’re prepared. If you struggle on the practice test, then you know you may still have more work to do to get prepared. Taking lots of practice tests helps ensure that you are not surprised or disappointed on your test day.Our COMPASS Exam Practice Questions give you the opportunity to test your knowledge on a set of questions. You can know everything that is going to be covered on the test and it will not do you any good on test day if you have not had a chance to practice. Repetition is a key to success and using practice test questions allows you to reinforce your strengths and improve your weaknesses.Detailed answer explanations are also included for each question. It may sound obvious, but you have to know which questions you missed (and more importantly why you missed them) to be able to avoid making the same mistakes again when you take the real test. That's why our COMPASS Exam Practice Questions include answer keys with detailed answer explanations. These in-depth answer explanations will allow you to better understand any questions that were difficult for you or that you needed more help to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book to prepare for the AP exam!
This book helped me a lot in the class, to understand the basic things and for homework. Moreover, I dont think i would have gotten a good score on my AP exam without this book. I still have it and I am using it as a helper for my Calculus 2 class in college. Please buy this book, it will help you a lot in scoring better in the AP exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mistakes in book = mistakes on test
This book has way too many mistakes to be used as a good AP Prep book.

These mistakes aren't even typos, instead they get formulas wrong, answers wrong, etc.

Luckily we are a "math" family and this was just a refresher for my daughter.I wrote this review, however, out of concern for a student who is really needing a Prep book to really prepare...and do well on the exam.

The Princeton Review books seem to consistently get positive reviews.I am getting that one as a substitute.

Good luck on your AP's:).

1-0 out of 5 stars Error-riddled text = avoid
Within the first 10 pages of the "Comprehensive" Review , I found three typographical errors, one of which mangled a well-known mathematical fact.

This is inexcusable for any mathematics text, let alone a review text.

This book (somehow) was made into a second edition, which means either

a) a revision of the original text created these typos
b) the typos were never corrected from the first to second edition.

In either event, this book would only serve to confuse calculus students.

2-0 out of 5 stars mistakes everywhere
the book itself is lousily organized, plus tons of little mistakes here and there ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was disappointed in this book and especially with the software.Over half the book is practice test with answers, if you don't use the software I guess this would be ok.Of the three remaining chapters, one is about the test structure and strategy (worthwhile read); the second is an introduction to college composition (not a study guide).Only the third chapter, containing about 50 pages or 25% of the book, is an actual study guide. The study material is ok, but not great.

The software is another story. The UI is a kludge, the program is buggy, and tech support is non-responsive.There is a known issue with Windows XP and later that requires you to download and register a custom DLL.To make matters worse, the instructions they give are wrong.Good luck if you're not computer savvy.I could never get mine to print the results and have yet to receive a response from tech support. Also, there is no analysis of your results to help you focus study.Rather, you can manually review the explanations for each question in the test.

I did pass the test, but would not give much credit to this guide beyond familiarizing me with the format. If you want a quick check to see if you are ready for the test, this will help.If you don't pass the practice exam, I'd suggest taking the course rather than relying on this guide to help you study.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Prep CLEP Review
My fifteen year old daughter used this CLEP book and passed with a 59; the college she is interested in attending required a 54.She felt that the "teaching notes" were very informative and and helped her focus on whatwould be on the test. She studied for three weeks. The greatest help was re-taking the exam after she had studied the incorrect answers. On the initial practice exams, she received a 52, 53, and 64.She improved greatly the second time around. We felt that these exams were representative of what she saw on the real test.Hope this helps!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK! Glad I had it! Passed with a 65 today! YAHOO!
This book was great and if I hadnt had the CD practice tests I never would have passes so handily. The test CDs help tremendously with learning the style of the tests, how to pace yourself, and the types of content to expect on the test.Every single thing in the test - except a few questions that were a little different - were in these practice tests. I passed with a 65 today - and you need a score of 50 to get credit. I will receive 6 college credits for spending the time to review these tests, and take the two practice tests AND will not have to bother taking English 101 and 102 at my school. Its the best use of a textbook I have ever had and I never would have passed without it.It is the same online format as the test.

Dont take any of these CLEP tests without having one of these books. The ones that have the CDs are the most useful. As I was leaving the testing center today, a young guy had just taken the Algebra test and he failed it. He didnt know the format of the tests, he didnt know to answer as many as possible since only the correct answers count, and he hadnt had Algebra since 8th grade. Now he cant take this again for 6 months! Bad move.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was all I needed for Freshman Comp. CLEP
I studied from this book and took the practice tests on the included CD. My scores on the practice test were decent but I certainly got several wrong. Then I went and took both the English Comp with Essay, and the Freshman College Composition CLEPs. Out of a perfect score of 80 on the actual tests I got a 79 on each!

5-0 out of 5 stars CLEP Freshman College Composition
This book has everything I need to study for the CLEP exam. The CD for my computer also has more practice test just like the exam will have. The only thing it does not have is an essay part. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly a Great Exam Review
I was very satified with this purchase. It was instrumental in helping me prepare for both my Math and English placement exams.

5-0 out of 5 stars helpful guide
it was a good review book.it contains a lot of information to study but the questions were like quizzzes to see what you remember.it has no complete exam to time yourself with.i studied for the social science and history clep for two days and got a 55.so it did the job for me, if you study it longer you'll get a higher score (which is recommended).

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but questions are too easy
I bought this book and studied it for 3 days to take my CLEP in Biology. I took the tests and did well. I read the material, and I also reviewed "Cracking the CLEP"

When I went to take the actual CLEP, I found the questions on the test to be much harder than the ones in the books. Be that as it may, I passed the CLEP with a 65 out of 80, so I guess it got me through the test.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good news.Bad news.
GOOD NEWS:

This book gives full and complete explanations for all correct answers on the practice exam in the book.It also gives full explanations about the incorrect answers as well.Because they MAY come up on the actual test.

This book allows you to study for FIVE CLEP tests.

BAD NEWS:

Because the book is so large, they did NOT have room for a section to give you BASIC information on a subject before the practice test. Most of the other books in this series have a study section, BEFORE the practice exam.

However, this book alone will help you pass if you have prior knowledge of a subject that you are testing on.If you do not have knowledge of the subject in question, use this book, plus one or more of the other test books mentioned in other reviews.

1-0 out of 5 stars information does not match on the exam
I failed the clep exam of social science and history just using this book. I studied for 5 months before taking the exam. The questions you will see on the exam is totally different to the information of the book. I am a pretty good test taker and i have no education background of social science and history. I think this book just only can be the reference guide. If you want to pass the test choose another book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Barron's
I teach high school English. This is a great vocab book. Will use for years to come. Arrived in two days.

5-0 out of 5 stars 601 words
I already had a copy of this book from the library and I wanted to have my own copy.So the product was not unknown to me.It is a good book, especially for advanced ESL students and prospective SAT students as well as anyone who wants to improve and increase their vocabulary.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Solid and Sensible Way to Build Vocabulary
I have taught English for over twenty years and have been using this excellent book and its "sidekick" -- 1,100 Words You Need to Know -- for nearly all those years to help students to improve their knowledge of advanced words. They are intelligently planned and really work. It makes good sense to learn words in the context of fields of knowledge. Another book I've begun to use recently is another (recent) Barron's book, Simon's Saga for the SAT I Verbal. This is rather advanced and for ambitious students. It teaches words in context and reinforces words by repetition and plenty of practice exercises. I suggest using Simon's Saga with 601 Words if you really want to learn a lot of words for the SAT, GRE, etc. -- not to just pretend to learn. You'll have to work, but you'll see your score improve.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Vocab, but not for when you forget (and need) it!
I left my book at school and have to do a paper using 5 words from it...AHH!!! NOT a good thing... but I'll make it (somehow...). The book reallyis good, though. I'm not big on learning vocab, but it makes it really easyto learn.

4-0 out of 5 stars An EXcellent Vocabulary Builder!

5-0 out of 5 stars AP STATISTICS EXAM, 06-07
FOR USE BY MY HIGH SCHOOL CHILD. I PERSONALLY DID NOT USE THE PRODUCT, BUTWAS TOLD IT HELPED RAISE THE LEVEL OF THE SCHOOL GRADE.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is it just me, or this book confuses a random sample with a SRS?
I spent some 20 mins browsing this book at my local bookstore. I believe the author states that a random sample is the same thing as a simple random sample. This is not really so. In a random sample, every unit has the same probability of being chosen as every other unit. In a simple random sample (SRS), the whole sample (n units) has an equal probability of being chosen as every other sample of n units from the same population. A given sample may be a random sample and not necessarily be a simple random sample.

Some other statistics books are also using random sample as a shortcut expression for simple random sample, but beware that they are actually two different things.

Otherwise, this book seemed comprehensive and well organized to me. It teaches a little more statistics than you need for the AP exam, and it does not provide as much AP-sepcific insider hints as Duane Hinders' book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible review guide
I've taken a total of six ap's in high school and i have 3 left this year.I've always found princeton review to have the most concise, helpful books, but this one is simply horrible. The way its written makes it confusing, random and unorganized.Never buy a review book written by an Indian guy.
